How Farms Work by Ryan Kuster is a UA-cam channel based in rural Potosi, Wisconsin. Our mission is to teach those who didn't grow up on a farm what the farming life is like. These videos show the Kuster family working together raising cattle and crops. We believe everyone who wants to know more about farming should be able to share the farming experience with us and we look to educate the world on many essential agriculture topics.
How Farms Work takes place on ~1,100 acres with around 75-200 cattle at any given time. Four John Deere tractors are currently used on the farm, which are a 4020, 4640, 7600, and 8235R.

sounds like the starter is going out. replace that before it goes completely.
They are not fun to replace out in the feild.
the bushings go out at the end and will eventually break the casting of the starter.
We just bought our second 835R because we love what it can do. Now we have 1 for work and 1 for family rides. Never feel like you need to justify a gator purchase. lol
5:57 awwww. My heart melted, makes me miss my boy Waldo, and he’s been gone 11-12 years.
That dump bed on the Gator will be super handy
Awesome congrats
I wonder if the scaling/burn on the lower dash was from the previous owner running a propane heater on the passenger side footwell before they added in the glovebox heater.
Outside of that, the Gator looks pretty good for being 12 years old!
The hydraulic dump is nice for when your going through the fields picking up rocks, your not killing yourself unloading.
Thank Ryan!
Nice purchase Ryan. Glad she wrote you the check lol
Thx for sharing
I hauled that 874 spreader out of there on friday! Kinda cool to see it on your channel and the fact this video was suggested to me. Subbed!
Great Video Ryan, looks like a great UTV, thanks for sharing
Ryan's step 1: big light bar 😁
Good job 👍
Quite a selection of equipment this year.
If my experiences of the past 2 years working outdoors on a forklift has taught me, having an enclosed option to run around is always a great option to have. Be it for checking cattle while the rain is coming down in buckets or those multiday storms where you want to check a day or two in to check those floodgates in the pastures.
Great stuff Everyone, well wear, very nice👌👍🙏🙂
Nice purchase Ryan, looks like it's in good condition. It will come in handy. Good video!!!
Good stuff
Ryan u should look into bed rail attachments to carry hand tools and chainsaw even when u have the sprayer in
NICE looking unit!Iam glad you went with the deere of course.:) congratulations!:)
Nice hope it does well for u
That should be a rubber grommet for the glass door! real nice. The sound is great inside the cab for youtubers!
nice seeing you got the same phone case as me, i love these things!
awsome video ryan it be nice to have anouther one on the farm at lease you can do more all at once thumbs up and shared
I really hope that the new gator fits the purpose that you are looking at! I used to work at the place that printed the dash and all of the other logos. It is just south of you in Galena and the dash piece was one of the most stressful jobs to print!
Hey Ryan!! Looks like a great purchase. I'm sure Rocket will appreciate it.
Looks like somebody had one of them little buddy heaters because maybe the heater quit working and they use one of them that you’d seen a deer blind set it on the floor and then the dash got too hot and mailed it. I’ve done it before.
we use a Kubota RTX 4 seater with a dump bed all the time. Agree about the sprayer and use the dump bed to transport stuff faster than the tractor which is so slow!
Good purchase for 10K
Ryan your going to love the utv drive thru gates I have 11 on my farm an sold 60 of them last year God bless
Love the utv I need one for deer season
Hey Ryan The 8430Had a nice size snow blade I have a friend You can do her driveway Unless 5 minutes With that tractor.
You could make a fencing supply holder box that attaches via the receiver on back and making something for the front receiver to carry other stuff
With grain inputs and value, the gator also gives you a platform to expand pastures and mob graze all 3 herds.Greg Judy just bought another farm #7 after quitting grain. Hana can run the sheep. Good luck finishing for Farmer Grade direct sales.
The second gator will be very handy😉👍 just like your skid steers, one for each farm would be the best solution👍👍
An Extra Gator UTV never hurts
Time to check fences.
Makes sense to have another Gator on the farm.thet are a great thing to use
Nice looking gator Ryan a U T V on the farm is as handy as a pocket on a shirt 👍
Check out the mister Cole Sonne uses for flies on their cattle.
Gators/rangers, etc are great for chainsaws, light loads, and moving cattle. It's a lot easier to put a chainsaw in the bed of a ranger than in a pickup. Some people use kei trucks for those tasks (if you're up for right-hand driver's side).
Hiya Ryan! One thing you didn't mention as far as add-ons was an led light bar. Is that on the project list, or are you set? Have a great Sunday!
New holland 195, same spreader my boss uses when we haul manure
How well did you like the GSC Grain cleaner
You've got plenty of fencing to look after so why not... 😂... youll have that mulching head to trade at some point so that will help.. 😊. Cracking vid work.. stay safe 🏴
We put off buying a UTV for some time thinking we didn't have enough use for one. Boy were we wrong. When we finally bought one we used it all the time. Would not be without one now.
I suspect a space heater (propane?) was in the cab and melted the bottom of the dash. Though, I'd expect melting on the seats also if that was the case.
If you want to haul the dogs and a little more stuff Deere makes a cargo kit that is added to the sides and has a swing lid above the tailgate that gives about a foot more height. Have it on ours. Works great. Is a mesh so you can see thru. Really helps to haul more and if you are going to take the dogs in the bed makes it so you don't have to worry about them falling out of the short sides. I think you would find it highly valuable.
Utv, handiest tool on the farm, Polaris is easier to maintain however they are all handy!
This will be invaluable like you said. That gator will work out way better on the farm than a Polaris.
Just admit the reason of buying that gator is to bring rocket along xD
I bet they had a propane heater in there they melted the plastic.
What can you use that for ??
Is it diesel or gas
How many hours on it compared to dads?
Thanks for sharing is there a manure spreader in the future
Amazing that the small console glass replacement is $800 and the power dump unit is $1000.
You like those 825s over the newer 835s?
Two gators is twice as nice 👍🏾. Maybe the J.D.. side slinger could go on the fleet farm Christmas wish list?
5:52 two left front tires... 🤔
i was really hoping for a new manure spreader.
Did anyone mention or did you see you can pull a small trailer with it.
Looks like that thing has been through the ringer, definitely wouldn’t say it was that great of a deal lol
Just get a JBL Bluetooth speaker that way when you shut it off the music keeps playing lol
R U saying there is a little Ryan on the way???
I guess I would have gone for another tractor or a manure spreader
Look to mount the chainsaw,
Tools, etc on the roof or hood so they are semi permanently with the vehicle at all times.
how old is your Dog Rocket?
2nd gator will speed up fixing fence so much it will definitely be worth it.
How does the headliner get so nasty? Is it just a JD thing but i notice it a lot in their SxS.
I personally think UTV are the best investment on the farm....
I hear if you hit 500k subs Can-Am or Polaris will gift you a new side by side. 😂😂😂
How many hours?
1500
@@HowFarmsWork
I have a 2016 with 425 hours still has original tires, nearly identical to yours. I wouldn’t sell it for 10k. Thanks for your reply.
cool you got another Gators 🙃
Sounds like an excuse for a 3D printer Ryan , for some of those parts LOL
You could have went to a Polaris dealer and got a side by side for less money
OK hello Ryan, Hannah, Dad and Travis. The gator will help checking fences and all around work on the farms. Take Care, Take it Easy and TRUST JESUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can you have too many Gators? Especially with three home farms.
I agree
Florida and Louisiana would like a word.

Granted, those are a different type of gator.
Why have one when you can have two? 🤔
Better choice over the Polaris. Made the right choice.
Ban a Jd 4440 or 4960. Babby on the way? Cruise babby.
SXS's are overpriced in general and Gators are even worse. There's something to it but I priced them and you can buy a nice half or three quarter ton truck for what that thing costs with heat and a/c. I understand they are really nice to work from but JD wants way too much money for that stuff as well as the others.
You will still need plenty of walking exercise, riding around is not good for you.
You guys must bleed green. Those machines are the most over priced side by sides out there for what they are.
Actually, they all are. Polaris, Kawasaki, Yamaha, Honda, it's ridiculous.
Inflation, my friend
Funny to see you here. Lol. But yes I agree….gators are probably one of the worst and most expensive sxs ever made
I think Ryan wears JD underwear and socks.
If he's happy that is all that matters
