I'm probably moving my family to Idaho and would like to ask a quick question if you wouldn't mind. How would you rate the soil in Idaho for gardening? Is it rich ,dark , dry sand like ? Thanks it would really help for your thoughts. 👍🏽👍🏽

We are looking into some land either in bonner or boundary County areas. Upper Northern Idaho. Little interest in Naples area. I figured if there are layers opon layers of duff from pines maybe the soil would be rich underneath. Of course with working the dirt/nurturing it in time. Chickens would probably help the soil as well

Don’t know if mentioned; but it’s good idea to put the implements, when not in use, on a platform. Such as log pallets, since you have access to logs. That will keep them from: 1) sinking into the ground 2) freezing to the ground 3) preventing rust. 4) easier to check the implement for any damage 5) can make it easier for attachment. And keep the tractor in a shed or covered area.
Please, please instruct your children on tractor and it’s implements, safety. No play on or around any of it...way to many children get hurt by farm machinery. Just like gun safety; equipment safety!
So happy for y’all! This will save wear and tear in your bodies, and allow you to get so much more done!! Yippee!!!

That 5055 John Deere has 55 horse power with a front wheel assist which means by flipping a switch you activate the front wheel drive that turns your tractor into a 4 wheel drive. I hope your dealer told you that when you don't need the four wheel drive to turn off the front wheel assist to turn it off to save the tread on the front tires. The front end loader will come in handy to haul a few bales of hay to your sheep out in the pasture when feeding them. I see you got a box grader blade for the 3 point hitch which comes in hand to grade your drive way of the gravel on it and keeps your drive way smooth. It is important to adjust your lift arms on the three point hitch to keep the box grader level when grading your driveway. I also see you got the fork lift to put on your front end loader please keep load as low to the ground and whe3n you are on a hillside never raise you for lift any higher than you have too because they will tip over when your on a hillside when the loader gets to high with a heavy load in the bucket or on the fork lift. Also that is a diesel engine in the tractor and in northern Idaho in winter a diesel engine can be hard to start when its cold and that John Deere has glow plugs to heat your engine cylinders before starting. I am a farmer in Indiana and I own 6 John Deere tractors including 2 with front end loaders. I am not trying to tell you what to do with your tractor but I don't want to see you get hurt or get someone else get hurt because you didn't know. I actually farm 2800 acres of corn and soybeans. If you have any questions please feel free to ask me and I will try to keep you informed if you want. If it was me I would also put a good coat of wax on it too and try to keep it inside your barn if possible. Nice looking tractor and nothing runs like a Deere, lol.

Also use Power Service or any other anti gel type fuel treatment. Yes fuel delivery companies add it but as a 22yr Trucker fuel will gel/freeze.
Lucas fuel treatment aids in fuel system lubrication as well.
See if anyone has/ can hook you up with some pallets to keep the implements off the ground. Be safe.

3 cylinder 5E's do not use DEF. A 4 cylinder 5085E is the smallest FD to use DEF. General speaking any new tractor over 75 HP will have DEF and 75 and under will usually not require DEF.
They do use a DPF. (JD and Kubota) Other brands will use a DOC (MF, and I believe CNH as well) on their 75 HP and under machines. One thing JD seems to have done a good job on is designing their emissions. My 5075E seem to regen about even 100 hours and that's it. Takes about 15 minutes. While I agreed I think having to uses emissions equipment on farm machinery is dumb it unfortunately is required by the EPA. The thing I miss most about a non-emissions tractor is the smell. You don't smell no diesel with these new tractors, and they are very quiet (relatively speaking) as well. People claim the the JD 2.9L 3 cylinder engines are very loud, and I tell them that they may have been 20-30 years ago, but at least these modern 2015+ tractors using the 2.9L are one of the quietest in their class. It took me a while getting used to such a quiet tractor. It makes you think the engines under less of a load than it is.

Nice tractor! Now you need to get a grapple, a weight box (basically for counter weight if you don't have a heavy enough implement for the 3 pt. hitch) and modify the bucket by welding on chain hooks to the top stiffener edge. Those chain hooks add a lot of versatility to the tractor.

Biggest thing is to be careful of tipping with loads in that bucket. Something you just have to learn by operating it and getting a feel for how it behaves. I've had mine on 3 wheels many times. One thing I would suggest, when carrying something, keep it as low as possible, and always be ready to drop it to the ground if you start to tip, this is the easiest way to keep control, just drop the bucket. That is my emergency protocol for any kind of a tip, and it has saved me many times.

Being a property owner with a long private driveway, you be very happy with the blade attachment. Lots of snow a windy drifts, gives you the ability to push back the edges so your driveway doesn't turn into a luge track. And with the bucket it gives you the ability to stack snow out of the way! I bought a new tractor 37 years ago and it still runs and preform like the day I bought it! Great choice, can't wait to see you get comfortable with it and see the results of it will have on your farm come summertime!

Congratulations on finally getting a tractor and that is a real nice one. Looks like you got the most useful attachments too. Study up on the three point hitch(3ph). There are quite a few handy 3 ph attachments available. You also need to acquire a set of chains to use with the bucket. When I get a new to me bucket, I weld a steel channel iron along the top to reinforce the bucket. I then weld 3/8" chain grab hooks at each end and then I drill through the bucket and channel for a 5/8" x 3 1/2" x 7" u bolt. A 1/2" chain slip hook is placed on the u bolt and it is bolted in. To prevent the U bolt from moving weld it in.
Do not run a tractor engine at high revs, especially when new. Be generous with lubricating because 100 tubes of grease are a lot cheaper than replacing bushings. Have fun with your new toy but keep the kids away. Have a block heater for cold weather starting.
Do you have a small entrance door for the building? If not, consider building a storm door for one of the big doors. The storm door can have a small door in it so you can enter and exit without a wind blowing through. Stockpile a bunch of wood inside. I am very happy that you got the tractor, it will save you many days of work. Good Luck, Rick

..as I stated in the "live" supposedly nothing runs like a 🦌...glad y'all got equipped for your current living/weather situation..take care stay safe and warm..oh and btw melissa their are several options available for 'heated' outerwear...but if all else fails a couple "strategically placed" hot hands hand warmers are a girl's best friend for frigid temps..👍👍

I got a 3038e series earlier this year and it is a workhorse, moving material, brush hogging etc. The pallet forks are so versatile. You will be able to do so much with that 5055e. Just be careful they can be turned over quite easily and quickly depending on load.

The BIG GREEN SNOW MOVING MACHINE!! Deere tractors are the best, I have a few friends that own them and they LOVE them. You will have no problem keeping the drive way clear now buddy. Melissa, you need to make fudge and brownies and take them to Pape machinery in Ponderay , I am sure Robert and the crew would love that. Jeremy I am glad you do not have to worry about getting snowed in now, TO BLESSED TO BE STRESSED..AMEN

Post hole attachment is great for fencing, pole barns, tree planting, bush planting, and large hole digging. Once it sits and starts getting rusty you will know that your farm is mostly finished! Like the rest of the implements, it rapidly performs very hard and tedious jobs. Congrats on the tractor, and to whomever edits the video. Gorgeous!

Just closed on my 20 acres over in the bitterroot valley of Montana beginning of November. Mine did come with a house but not a tractor 😔. Definitely on the top of my wish list but gonna have to wait a bit. Gotta finish moving everything across country and get my wood shop and Airbnb up and running so I can start saving up. These early snows add to the many needs and uses of a tractor on the homestead. Congratulations; definitely a well deserving family.
