How about 2' of 1/2" hardware cloth all the way around the coop and the run & attach it to the bottom to keep critters from burrowing underneath. You could hold it down with gravel or rocks taken from the creek (that's the free stuff 😊). Just a thought.
@Julie Chave that will just keep out the larger predators but the rodents & snakes probably won't have much trouble going through the fencing material on the sides of the coop & the run.

We had a weird thing happen years ago with my dad's chickens my dad kept them in a shed and was completely enclosed and I woke up one morning and went outside and I seen this hole that would have been true through solid wood perfect hoe I'm about 5 ft up off the ground there's nothing buy it to where something could get on there to chew it Dad went out there to check on this chickens and every one of them were dead
You might want to consider putting fence 6-12 inches into the ground on the outside perimeter of your chicken coop to keep digging critters out of the coop. They WILL try to for sure. Just saying
Great idea...... along with all the others that suggested it. :) But I bet that ground is frozen solid and when it isn't they will put in defensive fencing for the flock. Remember when they put the railway ties in the garden they had to use the backhoe.
I actually love the reusable ziplock bag idea. I try to reuse my disposal ones when I can. Man, it's cold in Kansas too.
