Once, there was a Lanturn owned by Cooltrainer Dianne in Emerald. That Lanturn knew Earthquake, a move that can't normally be learned by this Pokemon. As such, she was sent to be judged by Arceus for cheating, but was let off easily since she didn't use it in any competitive formats. The end.
I've been waiting for this one for so long and it didn't disappoint, Lanturn is the ultimate bro mon whose spotlight was cruelly stolen by Rotom-W, but that never stopped him smiling and doing what he does best.

I recall my first Lanturn back in Pokemon Crystal and I was drawn immediately to it. Didn't knew that Chinchou would evolve into this adorable Electric Anglerfish. It would then become a mainstay of my Gen II and III teams when I play through the game. Sure, Starmie is also on those teams especially when I do Mono-Water runs but Lanturn has its own charm that made it become one of my roster's regulars.
I love BKC’s content and role in competitive Pokémon as a long time fan. He got me into playing Gen 2 OU. awesome video. Really glad we got to hear about Lanturn’s iconic rise into OU. Freakin Rad.
Anyone watching who plays gen2OU love you peeps, even the trolls. Such an intense but rewarding format. Looking forward for even further developments in the metagame.
Fantastic video! Lanturn was my water type in my first Gold playthrough and subsequent Johto ones so it's good to hear it's done well for itself wherever it ended up in the tiers.
Yay, my favorite Pokemon of all time finally gets its time in the spotlight! The bit about Soak Lanturn being used in VGC was great. I thought that would be a funny gimmick, as Lanturn could soak an opponent and then hit it with a STAB super-effective move, though I figured in actual competitive play it probably wouldn't work out that easily. So it was cool to see someone actually make that move work in a competitive format.
I love hearing about strategies like Scarf Soak in VGC/Doubles. There are so many niche moves that hardly anyone ever sees, and it's great to see them suddenly pop up out of nowhere to good competitive success. There was another set that came up during the Pachirisu video with Ion Deluge + Hyper Beam that I also found fascinating for the same reason.
I used Soak Lanturn with Shedinja, that was hilarious :D exspecially since Lanturn has Volt Absorb, so you could Ally Switch into Electric attacks and actually heal Lanturn!
My first contact with lanturn was through a tcg card (unseen forces collection) where it was way less happy and darker, and since I had seen Nemo I thought that it was a scary angler fish instead of the cute bright little fish that it is!
While Ampharos is my gen 2 electric type of choice (one of my favorite pokemon as well), I always have a soft spot for Lanturn. It's so cute and I honestly should do a gen 2 playthrough with it. It's also a very unique Pokemon with poor stats on paper but uses them surprisingly well in the lower tiers thanks to its unique type coverage, immunity to electric, and incredible movepool.
I was OBSESSED with deep sea fish and anglerfish as a kid, so imagine my joy when I first discovered Lanturn was a pokemon! Happy to see them get some attention. I'm still studying the sea to this day, hopefully I'll graduate college and be a marine biologist someday, and I have the anglers to thank for it! Thanks Lanturn!
About time this video came out. Discovered this kid back in the days of netbattle. Lanturn's access to boltbeam and parafusion was enormously fun and obnoxious for such a little fish.
I think it's also worth pointing out that in gens 2&3 grass moves were pretty notoriously awful, which obviously helped it (along with Swampert too of course) in it's defensive roles. The best grass move outside of sun (which had no auto setters outside of Ubers) was HP Grass. Leaf Blade was Sceptile locked and even then still tied with max HP at 70 power, albeit with a high crit ratio (which afaik the jury is still out on whether it's +2 stages like in gen 2 or +1 like in Gen 4 onwards), and Giga Drain was still miserable at 60 power and more importantly 5 PP. Great job as always, never disappointed by an FSG (or BKC) upload.
Didn't knew BKC had any relations with FSG. BKC's voice is so easy to listen, I can listen to it for hours (as I often do on his channel). Very few people are so wordy and still so interesting.

It reminds me of that sabaton song, the unkillable soldier. especially the lyrics "Never stray! saving the day! facing the foes that are coming his way!" just, always finding a home, and always doing it for the same reasons.
I remember stumbling upon a Chinchou while fishing in Vermillion and I immediately took a liking to it and Lanturn, then Lanturn further impressed me on my first playthough of Pokemon Colosseum while fighting Ein, it was so tough! Glad to see Lanturn has seen a lot of success.
Always loves lanturn! One of my fave gen 2 mons cos of its typing and not one you get see be used often, just with it had a single stat over 80 besides hp 😭
Honestly this makes me feel like Lanturn just needs an evolution similar to Farigiraf. Its typing, movepool, and ability don't really seem to be a problem. With boosted stats I really think it could be good in higher tiers again. Maybe a boost to special attack and hp and maybe some in its defensive stats so it can still be a slow tank. I think a design that goes back in the same design direction as Chinchou strange and almost alien like something you'd find at the bottom of the ocean but still cute instead of just basically a dolphin with a light on its head.
YESS FINALLY Both my favorite electric type and my favorite water type! I've been waiting for this! One thing I'd like to point out is Lanturn is an amazing meta check, and directly counters Rotom-W and even Kyogre, seeing some play in UBERS because of that. My Lanturn however, ran an interesting set of Scald, Ice Beam/Thunderbolt, Rest and Stockpile of all things with a chesto berry. Turns out with the right EV allocations, it can eat Earthquakes from even Garchomp (especially after burn from Scald) while building up Defense and Special Defense stacks with Stockpile, then healing up with Rest for free with Chesto berry. Unprepared teams typically got stuffed by my Lanturn lead, and there was a few times I swept with her, a crowning moment being some 6-8 years ago when one of my friends with tons of clout couldn't break her, even with his Dragonite. Ultimately, I had to shelve her in favor of Swampert, somewhat in part due to the fact that I needed a new electric immune water type that had access to ground moves, but mainly because Lanturn's stats just struggled to keep up going into gen 8, and Swampert was just plain bulkier. Finger's crossed for a Lanturn tier 3 evolution in Scarlet and Violet! Cheers!
Great to see Lanturn here. My intro to Lanturn was encountering a Chinchou while diving in Ruby. I threw an electric attack at it which got absorbed, and I knew that I had to catch it. Once it evolved, I fell in love with its design, and the rest was history.
I had no idea BKC was the writer for FSG. Mind is blown. Carry on, no wonder the analysis in these videos is so good.
Iirc he’s not the only writer, but he does a lot of it. Dude is the closest thing to a genuine competitive Pokémon historian.
He wasn’t the only one. Kellen wrote a few early videos (like the first Scizor one) and there was Zane who wrote most of the early ones until BKC took over in mid 2018.

Cheers!
A good flipper friend! I love lanturn, especially when using it in Challenge Cup in stadium 2
Great to see Lanturn here. My intro to Lanturn was encountering a Chinchou while diving in Ruby. I threw an electric attack at it which got absorbed, and I knew that I had to catch it. Once it evolved, I fell in love with its design, and the rest was history.
Lanturn gang represent! I love that BKC voiced this, considering he went from a non-believer to a prophet.
OH HELL YEAH LANTURN AND BKC MY BIRTHDAYS EARLY THIS YEAR
bkc is so fucing impressive with his knowledge of pokemon meta game minutiae. I heard some of that in the adv section.
