Amazing how Mirror B predicted the rise of Ludicolo in doubles by being in the gamecube games (which are doubles only) Just goes to show you how much we need this super star back in the series
Bring Back Miror B. you cowards at GameFreak. Also I find it kinda odd that a goofball like Ludicolo has an ability to allow it to swim faster than Micheal Phelps
Seriously. The fact that not only GameFreak but The Pokemon Company completely forgot about the charming character cast from Pokemon Colosseum and Pokemon XD Gale of Darkness is just baffling.
"unfortunately Ludicolo ends back in a lower tier" "Here is a list of 7 billion people who top 3'd with it on their team in formats with no tier restrictions" Ok. right. PU. Uh huh. Okay. lmao
I mean, singles is totally different from VGC lol...there are a bunch of Pokemon that are good in VGC but not singles (incineroar, cresselia, ludicolo, etc) and vice versa
The Doubles meta is radically different from singles. Pokémon that are garbage in singles can be amazing in VGC and vice versa for example skarmory and cresselia
cool goggles kid honestly to an extent what moves and ability you have access to is more important in doubles then stats. For example having fakeout wide guard ect. And there is so much room for gimmicks. Pyroar has moxie and entrainment allowing it to give moxie to another partner. In addition it has good support options for doubles like snarl. Now there are quite a few mons that would love to be given moxie. Archeops or slaking for example. You can also fairly decently get the ability setup via follow me plus eject button since it’s pretty unheard of. Now in singles pyroar’s ability movepool and stats are just super badly fit together ( moxie ability special attacker stats with most notably good support movepool) but in doubles those tools can form an interesting gimmick together.
Oh, I feel you... my dog destroyed my Moon. I had just transferred my first ever Pokémon there, an Empoleon from Diamond, as well as a likely hacked shiny Weavile with perfect IVs EVs etc I got over the GTS and 6 other competitive Pokemon I bred myself. And a Magearna. Can't blame the dog though
Ludicolo is pretty good for movepool, abilities and type. But his stats are only okay. I am honestly surprised how good it was. It knew was good but not that good. I always did like ludicolo.
Yeah, his stats are pretty underwhelming. He's pretty terrible in singles, but Ludicolo seems like he was definitely designed with doubles in mind, good typing, amazing weather synergy, etc.
@Chris Cirnigliaro Nah it has more to do with how good Rain is vs Sun. If Shifty was some sort of Grass/Fire with good bulk and a movepool that could abuse sun it would be closer to a parallel (though still inferior).
Grass is an incredibly useful niche that many players underestimate, Water and Ground(read Earthquake) resistance in a single type is incredible. Plus Leech Seed is an amazing move. Heck even Ferrothorn would be way worse off without the typing. I wish Grass at least got a few offensive buffs though, maybe SE against Fairy or something, just so that it's not just a worse Water in most situations.
I can't say I agree with calling a type a "niche". Grass isn't as flashy as some of the other types, like steel with its plethora of resistances, or water's numerous traits, but it does have a lot of solid things going for it as you say. I don't think it needs a buff, but if they did decide to give one I'd rather they go for some sun synergy, like gaining recovery in sunlight.
I love Ludicolo. It's got such a wonderfully big smile that I couldn't help but pick it every time back when Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald were the current games. I haven't used one in quite a while, so I may have to use one in a personal playthrough at some point soon.
Ludicolo is a actually a pretty good Pokemon If it wants to succeed in singles though, it needs a buff in it's Stats. Those stats look so mediocre with the Generation Power Creep continuing.
Cherrim is oddly good on Groudon/P.Groudon teams with the right support. Turns don into a legitimate nuke that can take Special Attacks. What surprises me here is that this was a legit dual (half and half) primal team with Cherrim being on the sun half. Props to the dude for making that work so well.
Can we all just please take a moment of silence for our beloved friend Miror B? RIP I miss these games, seriously GF why you no give us Stadium and Coliseum back. Also what about more games with shadow pokemon? They are soooooo underrated.
I've seen ChuggaaConroy play both of them and I can say they aren't 100% bad games in concept and execution. But between hinging every fight on Double Battles, limited options to toy with during the main game for team building, ALL trade capabilities are locked out until AFTER the main story, and that in certain cases some Pokemon abilities are either useless or rendered useless due to how Colosseum/XD operates, it's kind of no wonder they only took it so far. (Thief DOES NOT permanently steal Items in Colosseum/XD. Therefore, Sticky Hold is useless. Stench and Run Away also do nothing since there are no Wild Encounters. And these are just the abilities I remember from those LPs that were on the Pokemon you could catch/obtain. Oh, and Plusle and Minun are both NOT acquirable together in the main Colosseum game, so the Plusle you get from a character in the game is largely USELESS as a whole.) And all this is without mentioning the occasions of multiple fights back to back and having to play Hot Potato with keeping your whole team healed and ready. Or the UNBALANCED nonsense of the Shadow Pokemon in XD hitting all non Shadow Pokemon with super effective hits.
Interesting how Ludicolo has almost always been a monster in doubles, considering how he's probably best known as Miror B's signature Pokemon, who is a trainer in a region that almost exclusively has double battles. Miror B pls come back and grace us with your groovy presence.
It's interesting for how well liked Ludicolo is, Game Freak barely allows people to use it in a ingame playthrough. For regional dexes, it's only been featured in Hoenn and Kalos.
I really did not expect Ludicolo to be amazing in the competitive scene. Normally, I would know the conclusion at the start, but this was a great surprise.
so to conclude, ludicolo is too reliant on support to be effective in singles but in vgc, where the faster more aggresive pace allowed weather to dominate, ludicolo reigned as both a rain abuser and a rain counter, both resisting and benefiting from water he is also a great counter to groudon, which allows him to operate in a restricted format
Ludicolo was a pain in my butt during the sun series monthlies alongside Groudon and *XERNEAS.* Toxicroak was my best friend with poking the deer but I didn't expect that killing Ludicolo would have been so important due to grass knot. Ludicolo was a force to be reckoned with, possibly even the scariest thing on the team beside the deers and I will respect it forever even with my victory against it
Ludicolo in a nutshell: 1v1 He did ok early on but fell to the lower tiers where he was pretty good on Rain Teams. VGC: AN UNHOLY ENGINE OF JOYOUS DANCING FESTIVE DESTRUCTION
This video has an important message-with enough optimism, you can accomplish almost anything. Ludicolo was never a top-tier pokemon but still did its best. Even when the competitive scene knocked it down and suppressed it, it never lost happiness and it kept doing its best. It eventually became a very good threat to the competitive scene regardless of its low-tier placings. Ludicolo never let its stride get broken, it held on to hope when there wasn't any, and it achieved heights that most NU/PU pokemon could never even dream of achieving. Ludicolo is the prime example of how pokemon should fight in the competitive scene. There will never be a pokemon quite like Ludicolo

The very fact he had to keep saying "we limited his placements to top 3" had me laughing basically he had such a high usage rate in VCG. So in my books he amazing and Smogon ruined their own singles meta with their constant banning of strategies that it's garbage
Cuttlefish I'm not heavy into competitive and I REALLY hate today's competitive. Megas, team preview, Z-moves, etc are things I really hate. The older gen competitives are far more fun to play.
Me neither, you could've fooled me. But that typing with his bulk is a boon since it only has two weaknesses. I remember in Plantinum, Wallace's Ludicolo gave me so much trouble due to no having a poison or ground and most of my moves being fire, grass, water and ice
Why Ludicolo isn't one of my favourite pokemon, it's still one of those mons that i adore for many reasons. Not only it is cool design-wise (litteraly a rain dancer :D), but also, despite its stats not looking so great, it still does a lot of things in competitive play (or at least did). ACTUALLY?
Guess you really quacked down on this one.
Idk about competitively but Ludicolo was my first level 100 back in Sapphire where it was my first time playing my own cartridge and I forgot I had a starter sitting in the box!
Yeah I gave up on trying to make you say Yadiyadiyada. It's been over 100 days.
I might be incorrect, but I am dum

I can't be the only one who finds it hilarious that such an upbeat and jovial Pokemon that can't help but dance when it hears music is so damn powerful

There's no such thing as a quad resist. It's a double resist. There has to be four of something to be quad.
Oh finally, someone said it! I've been silently stewing over that terminology for _months!_
@@gengarzilla1685 Start telling people then.
Quad because its multiplyed by .25, 1/4 of the normal damage, 4=quad. Normal resisting HALVES damage, so "quad resists" isn't inaccurate.
"We're here to battle."
"No, we're here to dance!"
