These are so decadent!!! Love seeing the many ways to do the geodes!!! You make it look so easy and fun!!! Thanks for another great video and inspiration!!!💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Really turned out nice. I made free form molds using silicone caulk but at the time I had no stones or glass only glitter. They turned out ok but the glass really does the trick. Thanks again for your tutorial.
hello, i just stumbled on your video here. was watching it and i heard you say you use stone coat resin and that you only have about 15 minute working time. well i use that same product and i am in love with it but i must let you know, you actually have a 45 minute to 1 hour working time with this product. yes, and that's the beauty of it. just thought i would let you know. there have been times i had acrylic pours lined up to be resined and made a 6oz batch and by the time i got finished it was indeed 1 hour later and it was just starting to thicken up but still workable. gr8 video :)
A lot of things can change the working time. Heat and humidity can affect resin in different ways. If you live in a cooler, dry area, or use it in a cool environment, it will affect your working time. Usually warmer areas cause resin to cure more quickly. So what is true for you, may not be the same for someone else.
Oh my gosh! I was the same way! I waited a YEAR to try resin. If you get through the quick learning curve of working with it and expect that your first piece or two won't go according to plan, then you'll totally get the hang of it! I hope you try it!
Loved this video and WOW for the freeform geos...they look as close to natural as I can see. Subscribed and look forward to watching more of your talents. Thank you from NC.
Do you put resin in the paints and pigments before pouring? Also is the tourch absolutely necessary to make these? Or is there an alternative? Thank you love you vids!!!
Just found your channel and you're just under 10k subs as of my comment... new sub because you're sweet and creative...plus now you're one closer to 10k! 😁
Thanks so much! Yes, I use craft acrylic paints. You just have to make sure to use a 10 part resin to 1 part paint ratio or even a bit less. Then your resin won't get messed up. It does speed up your curing time a bit and gives you less time to work.
I love your channel name! I'm wanting to start working with resin but it looks like an expensive craft to do. What would be the most basic items I could start with besides resin & molds? Thanks in advance if u get a chance to answer :)
Thanks so much! If you watch my video #35, it is for beginners to resin and has instructions on how to use each product as well as a product list in the comment section and where to purchase things. That would be your best bet to start with!
Sure! When you turn it on, have it far away from your resin and move in slowly. You don't want to blow the resin everywhere! My torch just died so I'm in the same boat!
Oh golly, I have been thinking and thinking about how to make a free form coaster. So, I’m so glad you did this! And I already have the red silicone form, but worried it is too big. But if you do it I know it is ok, so I will try it. Thanks again for another great video. 👏👏👏👏
Your work is beautiful. Are the colored paints mixed with resin or just the paint gets poured and the resin on top. You have paint in cups already so no sure. Thank you
Thank you! My acrylic paint is mixed in with my resin. Resin doesn't "love" acrylic paint but if you make sure to stick to a 10 parts resin to 1 part paint or less, you shouldn't have trouble. It only takes a bit of paint to color the resin. If you use too much, your resin will get stringy and not cure correctly.
I went out and purchased a silicone mat and my hot glue isn't sticking to it. Once it cools it moves which normally would be good but not in this case. Any ideas?
So I have to do a pretty thick line and make sure not to bump it at all. I do my geode shape and once it is done, I go back and do a line around the interior to seal it a bit more. But I have bumped it before and had to re-glue. Frustrating!
My mind is "blowing up" at the moment. I do stain glass pieces and these would be great to include! Next moment...Awards, a simple coaster. Any suggestions on colors for 1st-4th place (blues, reds, yellows, and the dreaded whites?)
Ooohh! This would look lovely in stained glass! If you want your colors to really sparkle, I would definitely use the Testors paints and the Pearl Ex powder that I used in the video. There's a link to it in the description. That will make even your whites really shiny and pearly. Good luck!
I get mine from either my Amazon shop or from the Stone Coat Countertops website. I'm getting ready to try a new kind. Here's where you can find them! amzn.to/2DMoqba
@@thefrugalresinista Just subscribed as I am a virgin to resin since I have 5 cats! ;) But I am venturing in anyway and I was thinking cork could work on the backs!
Am I confused or did you make the bottom into the top side on two of the molded coasters? If they’re not 3D they are reversible? “She’s pen painting the underside of that one, but there must be a good reason” 👩🏭
@@thefrugalresinista Thank you, I will keep watching. Also, tell my friends about you're channel. 🌷I will have to buy all these products.💜 I will send a pic, of my mess lol thanks again💝
Hi! Small question? Is there a sealer you recommend for the edges to ensure the copper / gold or whatever paint we used on the edges doesn't come off later on?
Hi and thanks for watching! I don't typically seal the paint since it is enamel but when I do for projects that will be out in the elements, I just paint on one more thin layer of clear resin. That seems to seal the best. Hope that helps!
Thank you! I don't seal the edges. Enamel paint is supposed to be waterproof. I did look it up at one point and read that it will even seal wood for you but that if you are going to leave it outside in the elements, it may be best to seal the top with something else.
Not a dumb question at all! Yes, you can. Since I use Stone Coat Countertops brand resin, it is for use in kitchens and can handle heat. There's a fun UA-cam of them setting it on fire!
Gotcha. That makes sense. I didn't really want to do more than one video but maybe could have cut the video so that you watch one at a time? Thanks for watching!
listening to you explain so naturally is very relaxing and not boring !
I love the free form. I'm going to make some this week and see what happens. Thanks so much for sharing.
Good luck! Thanks for watching!
I think finish off with the gold paint makes it look very beautiful
Thanks so much for the coaster demo. I’m looking to do these for Christmas gifts. I love the way you explain and give tips for success.
Yay! Have fun creating them!
These are so gorgeous! Such a thorough tutorial.

Thanks! That's my favorite too!

Does it tolerate heat ( can it be used for a cup of tea or coffee)?
these coasters turned out great. thank you for showing the different ways you can make the geode look!

They are all pretty but I really love how the 3D turned out.
Thanks for the demo! I was scared getting started but now have direction. These are great.

They all turned out spectacular! ;)

Great video !! What do you mix your colors with if I may ask ?
How do you coat the outer part of the coaster? What did you mix the copper mica with? Acrylic paint?
Do you put resin in the paints and pigments before pouring? Also is the tourch absolutely necessary to make these? Or is there an alternative? Thank you love you vids!!!

Do you have to use torch or does it just speed it up?
Love the techniques AND your music!
Love your videos. Just wondering is that regular paint that you are mixing in with the resin? Does that cause the resin to cure differently?
Thanks so much! Yes, I use craft acrylic paints. You just have to make sure to use a 10 part resin to 1 part paint ratio or even a bit less. Then your resin won't get messed up. It does speed up your curing time a bit and gives you less time to work.
Great video. Thx for sharing

There are several different types of stonecoat resin. Which one do you recommend for coasters? Is it the same one used to coat paintings?

They all turned put fabulously, what do you mix the resin with?
Thanks so much! I mixed acrylic paint, Testors enamel paint and Pearl Ex pigment powder.
do you need to put anything on the mould so the resin dont stick
Nope, not on the silicone ones.
