Beautiful piece! Suggestion...try parchment instead of wax paper. You find it in the baking aisle on a big roll, and NOTHING sticks to it, not even E6000.
Thanks!
This is the first time that I've seen anyone do a geode and it came out beautiful. I was impressed.😍😀🙋
Thanks so much for watching!
1st time we meet ...
An idea... have you tried soaking it in hot water to melt any remaining wax & dissolve any remaining paper? I havent worked with resin yet. It's on the shelf waiting for the right project to 'try it'/'spend it' on & this is it! I'm going to make this with my 13 yr old grandson! He's gonna LOVE it!!
We spent quite some time at Christmas at the Michael's craft store looking, many multiple times, at every single special rock they had to find just the right one for me to gift him & it was a geode in those colours that he chose. There was always a feature he liked about one & then a different feature that he liked would be prominent in another, & he had to keep weighing his degree of admiration for the individual features themselves against the percentage of the rock encompassed by said feature & also take into account any other specialties like colour & sparkle they each may have had to offer & I was right there with him in the agony over each eliminated rock because we'd have preferred to take them ALL home & enjoy the magic of every one of the special features they had in stock. But the gift was for just one rock.... the one that was the most precious & beautiful to him of them all. It was a terrific lesson in the practise of making choices if you have the time & patience to help them work through each option, & then all the choosing then 2nd guessing & deliberation over the 2nd choices & so on. (Of course I ended up buying him 2 afterall because neither of us could choose which stone had the feature we were willing to leave behind.
& sooooooo....
He will be thrilled to be able to make his own huge geode and incorporate any or all of his favoured features as well as choose his own colours.
Maybe if we allow ample curing time we can keep adding layers every weekend until we have what looks like a whole 3D geode rock!
Have you tried that yet?
I'll let you know if it works though it'll be a while from now.
Good idea! I haven't tried that. Others suggested adding heat as well. I did buy a silicone mat after this video and that works pretty well.
Beautiful! Finally, a resin geode that actually looks like a geode! Thanks for the tips.
I'm impressed, both as a geologist and as an artist. Has me thinking. Hmmmm...
What a COOL job! Thanks for watching. I hope you try it!
She's so accurate she pours the paint so perfectly she's a professional
Loved the color combo. Could you do a tutorial on creating a geode slice that could be hung in front of windows like a sun catcher? It would be a wonderful craft project.
The geode is gorgeous! Love the idea of using a hot glue gun for the form and incorporating it into the geode! That's brilliant!
Thank you SO much!
Soo pretty
Love the way you talk through the whole process with tips👍
A very pretty geode. Just FYI-there is a product called nail polish thinner. You can get it at Sally’s Beauty Supply. If you have polished that are very low or just thick you can thin them out for spreading. It doesn’t take much to thin polish so a bottle goes a very long way.
Thanks for the tip!
Just gorgeous!!! You're an ANGEL 😇 to do these tutorials! It's a fun process and the end results are spectacular!!!💙💙💙💙💙💙💙
You're so sweet! Thank you so much for watching!
Have you ever tried this project on glass? I'm thinking that after it is completely dry, you can put it in the freezer and let it get VERY cold and just pop it off intact. Thinking it would also have a shiny finish on the back side that way. Might be worth a try. Happy Crafting!
I haven't! That's an awesome idea! Thanks for sharing.
Glass wild break I think. I think some sort of plastic or plexiglass would be an idea though.
This is one of the most beautiful pieces I have seen on yt. Thank you for sharing and your explanations were very easy to understand. 🌸
Thank you so much! I really appreciate you watching!
This is my first time seeing you. While I won't do this project I enjoyed how you explained what you were doing step by step. Thank you for that. It's great that you would answer a question I had just asked myself. You are a teacher and I am now a subscriber. I look to forward to going thru your past & future videos!
Thank you so much for watching and subscribing. You're so sweet!
The Frugal Resinista I agree! Just watching you create and explain in detail, is so relaxing & enjoyable. Even if I never get to try this, your technique of filming and sharing what you love to do translates thru to us. Very Inspirational. I too am subscribing now and can’t wait to binge watch your channel from the beginning!! Thanks for sharing!!!🤙🏻
Super besutiful! You could go back and put pigment powder in the clear and fill in the center. It would be cool too!
Thank you!
Even though it didn't work out as you wanted it to do, I think it is beautiful... if it's heat-resistant, it would make a very pretty trivet. Still, though, it's beautiful! Thank you for sharing the "mess-up" with us. Am sure I'll be making one at sometime in the near future. Keep Crafting.
Thanks for watching!
Beautiful done
Beautiful God bless the work of your hand thanks for sharing 😍
Aww... Thank you so much!
@@thefrugalresinista no problem have a great day dear
When I Resin my coasters, I use a freezer paper from Walmart underneath and the resin peels off perfectly after it dries. Wax paper messed me up too!
Awesome idea! Thanks!
2nd video I’ve seen of yours. 💕 Thank you! You’re so patient and explain everything so well. I think it was a success!!! Sooo lovely. Love the colors. I might try this exactly. 💕
best work I have seen so fare you really tried to make it a s perfect as possible thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much!!!
Maybe use a empty ketchup container from dollar tree the small spout will help u build up faster or spread out faster looks great you did a fine job
Good idea!
I love how this worked out and the methodology that you used. The one thing I'd do differently is a simple thing. I'd use a cordless hot glue gun; for I don't like the 'drag' of the cord of a corded gun. Thanks for sharing! Gorgeous work.
You are brilliant! I actually didn't know those existed. That darn cord drives me nuts!
@@thefrugalresinista go and treat yourself to one.
Wow that is so pretty. The back is an even deeper colour of the front which was very nice too unless it was the lighting. Looks great on the display stand. I am new to your channel. Glad I found it!
Thank you so much! Yes, the back is darker. I appreciate you subscribing!
omg working on a resin project and this tuto SAVED MY LIFE
I'm so glad! Thanks for the message!
A lovely, delicate piece. The pink in the centre looks so fresh and cherry blossom like.xx
Thank you so much!
This turned out really nice! Thank you!
Thank you so much!
Absolutely beautiful
Great idea! Beautiful! Suggestion: Try parchment paper. Nothing seems to stick to that. Thanks for the videos! :-)
Thanks for watching! I switched to that and a silicone mat after this video!
Absolutely amazing
Fantastic job! Can you please write a list of things needed to do this project. Question: Why the middle was left without color? This is a great project . Thank you for sharing.
so awesome! I just found you lately and I love your style and everything you do
Thank you so much for watching!
i liked your passion in work
You can get those Hobby Lobby glass chips from an aquatics centre much cheaper..
Awesome! I will take a look!
Have a thought for the next one of us who are in possession of a warped cookie sheet 😜 .......try using a straw and blow through it to mix the resin colors? I’ve seen this done with a hair dryer (I’ve seen both techniques used for straight acrylic paint) ....think the hair dryer might be too powerful for this smaller project....but the straw might work ...then ya don’t have to pick anything up 😊 just a thought from my end of the world 😜 ...happy crafting all
Wow, I love this!
Maybe you could put the geode in the oven at a low setting, and melt the wax on the paper, making it possible to remove cleanly. Just a thought. Great job irregardless.
Beautiful, and fun to watch.
Thank you!
Excellent job thanks
Thank you for watching!
Right now I’m up to the spot where you said the inside was a little tricky, and I was thinking what if you make the line on the inside a little bit smaller and that way you can pick the glass up over the outside glue line like you did for the outside. It might be easier to put around… That’s just a thought 💭
Oh my days, this is stunning! I really want to have a go at it but I’m too scared.
Go for it! What’s the absolute worst thing that could happen other than it doesn’t turn out the way you want it to? At least you would know what to do better the next time you give it a go! Don’t let fear hold you back, you’ll never know if you don’t try! Good luck, I’m sure you can do it! ❤️🤗💫⭐️❤️
Came out gorgeous!
Thank you!
This is amazing I love your creative ideas I'm your fan 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Thank you so much for watching!
😍😙😙😙
Beautifully done! Bravo!
Thank you!
That is amazing ! Look great !
What if you were to use a heat gun it would melt the wax that's on the wax paper and you should be able to pull it off. The center of a geode is Halo anyway. At least all the geodes I have seen or Hollow in the middle with dragon points of what looks like shards of crystal poking to the inside. But the center is pretty much Halo. Hope that helps thanks again Deb
Heat gun is a great idea!
Great tutorial, wish it was time lapse, was waiting n waiting. Maybe cause couldnt wait to c end piece
Thanks! My video #26 is the time lapse version!
You aced it. Looks beautiful great job !
Thank you so much!
Just beautiful!
Thanks so much!
It turned out Beautiful!! I raise the kickstand on my glue gun when working.
So happy I found this video!! I plan on making coasters and I'm curious how long the cure time is before I could put a cup on it? Also, would it be able to handle a hot cup?
Thanks so much for watching! I would think a hot cup would be fine. I use my coasters with hot cups. The Stone Coat Countertop resin is pretty heat proof. They have a UA-cam video of them setting it on fire and it not getting damaged! The quick coat dries pretty hard within two hours but still takes about 2 days to finish curing so I would wait that long.
Are all your paints mixed with resin? If so, what is the ratio please?
Gorgeous end result 💖🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧💖
Thank you for watching!
Wow! That is beautiful! New subscriber!🙋🏻♀️
Thanks so much!
Have you tried using an applique pressing sheet? They are designed to release when you iron on it. Just a thought. Very nice, I love it.
I haven't. That's a great idea. Thanks!
Beautiful!
Wow I absolutely love how the paint pens accentuated everything on the geode. I think I might have to try something like this. I love getting on UA-cam and finding new things then I can create myself. I don't copy other people's stuff so just the fact that you taught me how to do a geode, helps me in deciding the colors I want use in mine. What a beautiful creation you made. Take care and God bless Deb
Yay! I'm so glad you're going to try it!
Have you tried using large plastic lids, such as come on ice cream buckets. Years back I used one on a different style resin, and it peeled off rather easily once dry. I did leave it sit for three days.
I haven't. That's a great idea!
Did you mix the paint with resin at the beginning? It looks amazing
Thanks for watching! Yes! I mix the paint with the resin before I pour. If you do it, you just want to make sure that you mix at least 10 parts resin to 1 part paint. The paint goes a LONG way to color the resin and too much paint can keep your resin from curing properly.
Soak it in warm water for a while and rub off the paper. Also, you used the wrong side of baking sheet. There is a reason it's glossy. Thank you for your tutorial.
Thanks!
You do such a great job this stuff ❤️
Thanks Brad! Miss you!
Miss you too
love this...you did a great job!
Thanks so much!
Really pretty
Thank you!
Beautiful
Thank you so much!
I keep cardboard around because it's flat and hard. Nice replacement for your cookie sheet.
Ooohh, that's a great idea! I'll have to try it!
Great video...if you want to tilt your work you could slip the wax-paper onto your cutting-mat...greetings from Germany :-)
I love this so much!!!
Great job
Thanks!
I love watching you work. Great job! This turned out so beautifully 😊
Thank you so much for watching!
The Frugal Resinista Thank you so much for sharing!
WHy didnt you just do a line of resin first with the stones, let dry, then do the rest?
That would probably work great too! I didn't because the resin tends to leak out under the stones and then you have a weird edge. I also knew that I wanted the edge to be thick enough for me to pour two coats and I was afraid that without creating a barrier, the second layer would leak out over the top. Good questions!
BEAUTIFUL.....:)
Thank you!
awesome job
Thanks!
this is an awesome technique ! great job! I was wondering, you said you reuse your cups, how do you clean them?
Thanks so much! I don't use them to measure resin after the first go. But after I finish pouring with them, I leave them sitting upright and the last little bit of resin will all dry at the bottom. Then I just pour more resin in when I want to mix it with colors.
What about silicone caulking to form the edges?
Yes! That is common and I use it as well. This was shown as an alternative to that. Thanks for watching!
What should I use instead of the paper so it won’t stick! I saw you using silicone mat, but I don’t have that :( any suggestions? Thank you so much for this video
You can use parchment paper. Just make sure the resin is completely cured before you peel!
The Frugal Resinista thank you so so much! You are the best
I saw some useing vinil shower curtain (transparent) and it work great. I think it’s an excellent option
How about bees wax or silicone spray or mould release agent on a tile? Loving you work.
Thanks! I switched to a silicone mat after this video. Much better!
I like it!
Thanks!
could you do it on a flat silicone mat and go from there?
Absolutely! I actually switched to a silicone mat after I made this video but have since found that I really just like using parchment paper or thin vinyl the best.
I saw "Geode" and all I could think of was "Geo Dude"
when you say you mix colors, what do you mix them with/how do you mix them? Thank you so much for this awesome tutorial!!
Thanks for watching! I mix acrylic paint right into my resin before I pour. You have to be sure to mix a 10 part resin to 1 part paint, or even a little less paint so that your resin will cure properly. Hope that helps!
Thank you so much!! This is so cool!
fantastic as always! What would you use this for?
I sold this one and it was a table decoration on a stand. But you could skip the hole in the middle and make it a candle holder, hang it on a wall, etc... I bet you could do a lot with it!
@@thefrugalresinista thank you...guess I have to get down t making one and then I will know and understand more ! Love your work and explanaions! You are the best!
On 3mm plastic or better the geode comes right off
Thanks!
A flexible cutting board would work to lift it and move it around. $1/2 at Deals.
I also wonder if a teflon sheet or silpat would peel away cleanly, more easily than waxed paper?
Awesome ideas! Thanks for sharing! I have switched to a silicone mat but don't love it because the glass doesn't brush off easily. I'm still looking for the perfect base!
Yay!! I too have zero patience
Ha ha! Who has time to wait 24 hours for resin to dry, right?!
Now thats wax paper. Can u do it on parcment paper? Any experience with that?
How about trying to use clear silicone I guess it won’t sitck to the paper 😉
Good idea! Would it hold the stones?
I used hot glue gun last year towards the end of the year when I first started cuz I wanted to do free forms and I wanted to do them now I didn't want to wait 24 hours for silicone to dry so used hot glue gun and I built up my mold only to have the heat gun and the torch melt it down not completely but I did struggle with it
I haven't tried to use hot glue only as a barrier. I've only done it by pushing the glass stones into the glue and then letting the glue cool. Maybe my glass stones helped to protect the glue from melting? I have only used my torch to get rid of resin bubbles as well. I haven't hit my glue barrier with a heat gun.
Wonder if this would work on a plastic cutting board like the cheap ones at dollar tree. The glue pops right off but of the resign wouldn’t then it wouldn’t work
Beautiful:)
Thanks!
What if you do this on a silicon table mat ?? Would it peel off better??. I bought one for my 1 year old to put down when she eats would that work? Maybe?
Wow! I love this! I''ve never seen anything like this. How do you normally display it?
What does the torch do to the materials? Could you use a heat tool? Beautiful work! Thank you!
Thanks for watching! The torch pops the resin bubbles to make your resin cure as smooth as possible. You can use a heat gun as well. You just have to make sure you turn it on away from your resin and move in slowly so that you don't blow your design everywhere. You can also use something as simple as a lighter. It just takes a lot longer.
where can you get glass bits that you use
You can get different varieties at dollar stores in their floral/craft section. Here are the links to the specific colors that I used in this one... amzn.to/2IlOhKQ and amzn.to/2UfPmFr
You made my day, what a great result, and loved the ice nail polish! Do you sell them? They'd be great to display in windows.....
Thank you so much for watching! I sell through my Facebook page right now but am working on a website. The window idea is awesome!
Is that acrylic mix with resin???
Yes. Resin doesn't love acrylic but if you stick to a 1 part acrylic to 10 parts resin, you will get good color and still have the resin cure all the way.
So fascinating and helpful- thank you! Just wondering, how do you get the aerial view angle with the camera?
Now some dumb ? One my first one dose not look right its very soft and the lid i used didnt work it was a tin foil tray lid but the resins stuck so out it goes what went wrong .
I saw someone mention doing this on glass but has anyone tried on a metal pizza pan?? Would that work?
I haven't. Hmmm.... maybe someone else here on the feed???
Great job! What type of heat gun/what wattage were you using?
I actually used a small kitchen blowtorch. A heat gun is on my purchase list for the near future!
Try parchment paper next time
On the video a few after this one, I switch to a silicone mat. Much better! :)
Gorgeous. I'm going to try it with clear cellophane. :)
