    Good Job, Tyler! This is all very good, interesting, and useful information you're providing. I have a 1987 Volvo 760. So far it's running good, but good to know all these things you're learning and sharing. Thanks a lot!

    tyler, really enjoying the Volvo vids, and Roberts, where did you find the info on the mass airflow meter and test light to get the stable idle, mine is the same, everything works as its meant to but idle is lumpy, new vac lines, iacv is working fine, very similar issues to yours, watched the vids more than once in the idle saga, more info please I am across the pond!!! exact same vehicle!!!!

    It does have a self dinogstic system though. Lil black box under the hood by the steering wheel, top pops off and have 6 ports with a prong to plug in. I forget what it is called, but it is on UA-cam. Port 2 + 6 are the only usuable ports though for some reason.

    I guess you have replaced your intake manifold gasket ? Before all your mass meter problems ?

    I think I have the same problem as you do here, replaced everything possible took it on a test drive was running great next day back with the same symptoms. It would start right up perfectly cold and once it started to warm up it would idle poorly and eventually just die, the rpm meter would be slightly moving up and down as well - 1990 Volvo 760 turbo

    Tyler, are you sure that there isn't a OBD port behind the left shock tower? It has a black cover, when you lift it up, there should be a button whit a red diode, 6 holes and a function section cable.

      +siemenstraffic I'll double check, but I don't think so. I think that was LH2.4...the next version.

    • @siemenstraffic
      @siemenstraffic 8 років тому

      +WhoSaidTyler It could be that you have a LH2.2 Bosch system installed that was installed in 1987 to June of 1988. I heard the Volvo car mechanics hated thees cars, like you said, there is no OBD diagnostics installed. In July 1988 the LH 2.4 came out whit OBD I diagnostics system whit the RED LED so you could read the codes yourself! I manage to snag the official VOLVO a special code reader whit a mini display off the Bay that makes to make reading codes so much easier.

      What's the special code reader?

    • @siemenstraffic
      @siemenstraffic 7 років тому

      On some Volvos between 1988-1995 was a black ODB1 port. There was a pin by the port and you stuck it in and flash the codes. Volvo had a special hand code reader for there service technicians to speed things up and so you didn't have to count the red flashing LED and the error code was put on a mini screen.

    Had and still sort of had that exact same problem. Looking for a video to replace the tank to pump fuel lines and found this. Still haven't found a video to do the fuel line but it looks like just replacing the rubber hose connections on the metal lines once I can get under the car. My cars 80 miles away in the Georgia mountains so I need to take it all with me. Not an auto parts store anywhere up there to run to. Replaced the lower rad hose last week to get it to my house and while it was idling making sure it wasn't leaking I noticed the gas puddle forming under it. The big fuel line from the in tank pump was leaking where it connects to the metal line so I left it and came home. Easy to put the new hoses on but hard as hell reaching the lines to unclip them and drop them down. No way I can reach it from the access panel in the trunk without slicing my arms on the sheet metal.

    This doesn't address the 'feather' the accelerator while cranking. as the tachometer goes to 2 k RPM on start, indicating that the accelerator is being 'feathered'

    Would an Exhaust Manifold leak cause an idle problem similar to his problem?

  • @PapiDoesIt

    I think Volvo and Saab had a competition to see who had the craziest engineers. I had a 900 Turbo Saab that never did make sense. The manifold was made of "breakium" which means if you look at the manifold more than 5 seconds it will shatter. Saab knew this and priced manifolds accordingly high; they quoted me $1500 for a new one. That's not including installation and gaskets! Not when I have a welder, buddy! The only thing that kind of made sense is it used a Chrysler K-car power steering pump. I see Volvo is just as wacky.
