Their '73 MSG concerts were okay. They performed way better in New York in 77. Plant's voice was in much better shape and the set list, I think, was far better.
The best version of this song is the studio version or if you have the patience, the mammoth 28 minute live version from Madison Square Garden 1973. Incredible!
Someone mentioned this a few comments ago but when you think about how young they were when they were playing this song it is amazing! Robert Plant, only 20 or 21 at this time, sings like a man who has already lived a whole lifetime of emotions. He has that bluesy tone that has carried him through the decades. I am really enjoying watching your reaction to these Led Zeppelin songs that so many of us love and grew up with.
Led Zeppelin was known for improvising when playing live; no song was played live the same way twice, so, with that being said, when you get a chance, react to the version of this song from Madison Square Garden - it is *28 minutes long* but worth it!! It is a mini concert all by itself.
I can second that because I saw them sooo many times back in the 70's and yeah, every night they would play their songs a little bit different from the night before. One of my favorite bands of all times "Legends"
If you feel like floating down a river with your eyes closed you listen to Pink Floyd but if you feel like tearing the New York City phone book in half you listen to Zeppelin!! By far my two favorite bands!
I love seeing young cats like yourself discovering this awesome, legendary rock for the first time. Makes us boomers feel good. At least this boomer! LOL You are doing a fine job, young man. Enjoy the journey.
Jimmy and his violin bow. He got the idea from a classical violinist who was the father of David McCallum the star of Man from uncle. Just a little bit of information for you. Have a great day☮️
So I watched this followed by your Beatles reaction Within without you - you would obviously enjoy a later version of Kashmir by Page & Plant at Irvine with the Egyptian band playing - same song, different version. Both AMAZING
Violin Bow. You might can’t find it on here but jimmy pages tells the story about how it came about. Somebody told him he should try it and he didn’t think it would work but tried it anyway.
Great tune, great reaction. With the early videos (this one, Radio Danmark) you can see them settling into their main influences... for Jimmy Page, it was Jeff Beck; for JPJ it's every blues bassist that ever existed; for Bonzo- pure jazz; for Robert... voice style: Janis Joplin, look/ appearance: on his way to Roger Daltrey of The Who- see the hair getting blonder but the curls not yet tamed, soon the open- shirt flaunting sexuality attained to perfection in 1973 (Robert 24). Fun to see. Nice goin', Pop (how else can I shorten your name?). BTW the Blues labels it 'call and response' (Jimmy guitar/ Robert scream) but I think that the 'tall forehead' folk call it a colloquy. And it was a cello bow. LOVE that you enjoy them so much! Be safe, man.
It's a violin bow he using on the guitar and the crazy thing was that everytime he played this song and used the bow the sound of the guitar with the bow sounded better and better and better (:
I've watched hundreds of reactions to Zeppelin songs I've heard thousands of times. I stopped because as the reaction videos became popular, the reactions became fake, or the reactors tried to act like they knew something when it was obvious they were oblivious. and various other reasons. I'm sure your videos were recommended to me, but I ignored them for those reasons. Big Mistake on my part. This is awesome to see such heartfelt reactions. Just started my journey of watching your journey into the rabbit hole, and am so excited. Almost like hearing them again for the first time after 40+ years. And will definitely be checking out your Floyd and Rush stuff, too. There are certain tells you can see if you've watched enough reaction videos whether or not the reactor is the genuine article. And you, my friend, are the genuine article. Please remain the same.
The longer video version from 73 has some cuts so it's not one continuous version but they jump a little bit from night to night in the movie. At the same time the bow solo does not have the fingernails on the chalkboard part and as much more mature melodic, but that's not why to watch it. For about 8 minutes after that it is the most stunning performance you'll ever see, the energy levels are off the charts.
Check out the studio version of this song, it's excellent! There's so man good ones to pick. Try "In My Time of Dying" by Zeppelin. You won't be disappointed!
Check out the Danmark radio show,4 blistering high energy songs from the very 1st show that they ever performed under the name led zepplin. They had performed a couple of times previously under their original name of"the new yardbirds". Every single song was incredible despite the audio of television being so poor at that time.
Jimmy Page was originally with the group Yard Birds which had several hits prior to Len Zepplin. Prior to the formation of the group the term "Led Zeppelin" was something that flopped. The expression was; "Their performance went over like a Led Zeppelin." I think the album came out in 1969. I think their first version of the song was performed with the Yard Birds. Daze and Confused 1967 Jimmy Page and the Yard Birds ua-cam.com/video/uHWQtRjGHgo/v-deo.html Cool
Need to listen to the studio version first then the 1973 live version at Madison Square Garden from the concert film The Song Remains the Same. You will never see a better live performance than that!
They were called by the press….the New Yardbirds when the band formed in 1969…..because of Jimmy Page presence in the new group….then the first album was released and officially they were called Led Zeppelin…Keith Moon…The Who’s flamboyant drummer once famous said in a interview…..that’s a perfect name for them because they will crash and burn and will not be anything else but a disaster……If he was serious, half joking or had too much to drink…no one knows for sure……
When you hear Jimmy Page going off the deep end and you fall with him you know you have made it to the edge of the universe, to come back and live to tell the tale, except nobody tells the tale. Nobody. Because by then, there is no tale to tell. I particularly enjoy 6:35 this moment of your wonderful reaction, it would be remiss of me to not commend such enthusiasm, which I hereby do in this statement, lest us be deceived by thine own eye so it stands in eternity for ever more Amen etcetera etcetera.

This is probably my favorite live performance of any song, ever.
It’s a cello bow! This was just when they were being discovered by the world. Dude check out the 1973 Garden concert!
That's cool!
Rasputina does cello rock.

I gotta disagree I like this version best.
This is probably my favourite Dazed and Confused version - they're so raw!! JPJ's bass is so dirty on this.
My favorite too!! 🔥🔥🎤🎸🔥🔥
John Paul holds the whole thing together and . . . . . most people don't even notice it, 'cept you and me!
No way
I'm just doing computer speakers here, but it still doesn't seem like a very good recording of it.
Nothing is like Zeppelin live!

John Paul Jones on that bass. Dang. Not mentioned enough. He is phenomenal. Love his work. Cheers from Canada
THAT FUZZ IS SO TASTY
I wish they had done direct Mics on the drum, John Bonham was killing it!
can never get sick of Bonzo rolling the bass.Just amazing
soooo cooool!
He's using a cello bow, I think.

They were so so young here......about 20. Robert hadn't developed his swag yet. This was such a raw performance
💙💜💙💜💙
Robert's singing here is total swag!
I love seeing young cats like yourself discovering this awesome, legendary rock for the first time. Makes us boomers feel good. At least this boomer! LOL You are doing a fine job, young man. Enjoy the journey.
I hadn’t seen this particular performance in probably 20 years. Easy.
Thank you.
Man. This brings joy to my heart watch you feel what I felt 'backin the day'. ✌️
They were absolutely brutal lol robert was 20 years old here!
Everyone gangsta until the bow comes out.
Jimmy and his violin bow. He got the idea from a classical violinist who was the father of David McCallum the star of Man from uncle. Just a little bit of information for you. Have a great day☮️
Back when plant still had that nastyyyyy stank 🤟🏼
He is using a violin bow... great stuff!
So I watched this followed by your Beatles reaction Within without you - you would obviously enjoy a later version of Kashmir by Page & Plant at Irvine with the Egyptian band playing - same song, different version. Both AMAZING
Hossam Ramzy was a genius!!!! LOVE THIS KASHMIR VERSION!!!!
This is a very early live version. The song runs 28 minutes in the live 1973 Madison Square Garden performance.
Wow!! Can't get my head around this being in 1969....these guys were ahead of their time
Violin Bow. You might can’t find it on here but jimmy pages tells the story about how it came about. Somebody told him he should try it and he didn’t think it would work but tried it anyway.
Zeppelin always changing versions of songs
Another special treat, Contribution to Led Zeppelin, by HEART, live, Kennedy Center
Love that clip. Percy is feelin it and Bonzo nails it.
The guitar tone is even better than what we hear on the famous long version filmed at Madison Square .
Nothing like this before or since.Led Zep rules the RnR world !
Listen to this from Madison Square Garden. 28 min of pure excellence.
3:50 THAT my friend iis jimmy page using a cello bow to play electric guitar! 1 of the more incredible things ever seen in the universe

A great band never plays the same song twice.
Always wondered what it was like to hear zeppelin in 69 for u e 1st time live..audience was like ummm...wow
It's a violin or cello bow. Where there's smoke, there's fire! Lead singer, Robert Plant.
I enjoy your reaction videos. You have a lot of energy.✌
That is a cello bow 😁
Check out Heart(the band) at the Kennedy Center Honors. They play a tribute to Led Zeppelin (who are there in the audience).
Deep Purple, Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, the holy divinity 🔥💜
Genius!
Love 3 piece bands (plus singer). Zeppelin, Doors, The Who, and so many others. Three people can make a lot of noise!!!!

“Wow, a sword as a pick?!”
Sure totally a sword
If someone hasn’t already answered, it’s a violin bow.
Man, even if your girl left that gig with you, you'd know she really left with Plant. And your mind would wander a little too.
Robert Plant ... with the cool hair
Plant and Bonham are about 18 here!
Check out the studio version of this song, it's excellent! There's so man good ones to pick. Try "In My Time of Dying" by Zeppelin. You won't be disappointed!

Makes the Beatles seem like alter boys 😆🤣😂😃
Jimmy Page, the guitarist, is using a violin bow to get those sounds.
Jimmy Page is the top guitar player ever .
Not a sword. It's a violin bow. You play violins with violin bows.
