Hello Carmen...Im thankful for finding your page...I looked for over 25 years for a Mother of Millions like my mother had when I was a kid, she died when I was 17 so I couldn't ask the actual name or where she'd gotten it. I moved from Washington state to Florida for a major brain surgery & after some time, I actually found the plant outside an incense shop, my mom had told me you had to be gifted the babies or leaflets as I think you called them!! After getting 5 babies gifted to me by the owner, she didn't even notice she had anything in her pot besides the main plant(can't remember what kind it was)anyways in tge last 5.5 years, I have grown thousands of the mother of millions plants but last summer I stopped at a garage sale & tge lady had a plant that had several different kinds of plants in it & there was a light green "Mother of Millions" which I noticed the first lighter green one you showed you called "Mother of Thousands" to go along with all my pointed leafed Mother of Millions which grow a umbrella of beautiful pink blooms that last all winter but the light green obes haven't grown any kind of flowers yet but I have propagated tge babies all over my property & I love them to pieces...Im 9n disability so I can't afford to buy any plants butxI collect seeds & starts from wherever I can find, mostly at my doctor appointments around the properties, I just pick up seeds off the ground & take them home & plant them!! I got a bunch of bags of soil when it was on an amazing sale fir $2.00 a 1.5 cu ft bag of brand name potting soil with light fertilizer in it so I'm always looking for any pots to transplant anythung growing out of its original pots...My joy is playing with the plants whenever I'm well enough to go out there in my wheelchair & mess around with whatever I'm growing at the time!! I really enjoyed your video & have subscribed to your channel...I look forward to seeing you in the future with all your different plants!! Thanks, Misty 😊
That's really how it happened! I remember when he was getting all droopy and then all of a sudden he started growing up! Poor Fang, he's had it rough. 😊💚🌱🐶
Hey Carmen, I was gifted a butterfly in a plant swap. It was tall and lanky, kind of like yours. I trimmed the top off and stuck it straight into soil, then trimmed the naked trunk almost to the soil level. Both the mother and baby are doing well, and the plantlets that fell off are littering the soil with pink. Kind of fun. They are living on my deck windowsill. I also have 2 other kalenchoe's, just your garden variety, one with orange flowers, the other just bloomed with hot pink. Both were rescued, so I had no idea what I was getting! The orange flowers have been blooming since December in my bright windwosill, just trimmed today as it was getting too lanky. They have been fun little plants!
These are some of my favorites ! On the lookout for mother of thousands, pink butterflies, and silver spoons . Love searching but love even more finding 🌿🤪
I have a Kalanchoe that flowers beautiful blooms in January/February and last through the summer! It’s leaves are a darker green then yours. It’s called a Flaming Katy and my original plant puts out pink flowers, while it’s propagations put out some pink and some yellow! I haven’t figured out how that happened because I use the same soil for all of them and there are pink flowers and yellow flowers in the same pot!! It’s crazy! I hadn’t known that there were such a large variety of Kalanchoe plants! Thank you for sharing! 💜
My gf from SC sent me some Mother of thousands small plants. They did well here in NY in a south facing window until winter and I may have watered too much.🤪. I left the plantlets that died in small terra Cotta pots and low and behold, they are growing. She said that they thrive on being ignored. I am trying. I would love Copper spoons, need to keep looking or try to order. My sweet girl of 12 years passed away on May 10, she was copper colored,12 years, 1 month and five days( furry animal pet, not plant.) I always get a memorial plant that suits them.💖. Thank you for the video,LOVE IT!💞.
I'm so sorry for your loss Kimberly. How wonderful thought that you have something special to remember her. My Rosie is also 12 y/o and I can't imagine life without her. Thanks for stopping by! 😊💚🌱🐶
Lovely array. My fang plant is not doing its best but didn’t have enough sunlight it sounds like. However, my copper cup plant is doing well in the northwest facing window… it has a deeper green underside and a very deep wine colored topside and it’s growing quick.
I've been hoping for you to make this video! Kalanchoe is easily one of my favourite succulent genera, if not my absolute favourite. I've really enjoyed watching your collection grow and I can't wait to see what you get ahold f in the future!
@@carmenwhitehead Of course and thank you for the video! If it was me I'm so glad. Please keep us updated on your kalanchoe collection if you don't mind! 😊🌵
Your videos always teach me something. I didn't know there were so many types of Kalanchoes. All beautiful. I have two types...a variegated one that grows so easily and quickly and a compact flowering one
Hi Carmen oh Wow love your cactus one i saw was a purple w pale green or gray its beautiful i learn how to take care of them thank you oh i like your cute blouse its my style so cute well Carmen take care 😊
hi Carmen Thank you for your videos. So helpful. What you call "Mother of Thousands" in the US, we call "Mother of Millions" in Australia, and for good reason! They are a noxious weed in Queensland, my state. When they get out of control in the wild, there is almost nothing you can do to get rid of them. I had some on my property up near Bundaberg, and before I new it they were taking over the whole property, and they are toxic to many of our animals here. Cows die when they eat them. Thought that you may find that interesting
Carmen, if you ever come to California I’ll take you to Poot’s Cactus and Succulents. You have two of their snake plants that I sent and the really pokey cacti is off of one I got there as well. Then we could hit some Thrift stores too...so fun and a couple antique/collection type stores I know you’d love. My friend has an AirBnB close by! We are in the Central Valley about 1 1/2 hours from Sacramento. We’d have so much fun!!!
New subscriber, first time seeing your wonderful channel. I love your friendly, gentle, intelligent manner, I'm in southern Arizona, just got my first Kalanchoe, found you when I was searching how to care for Kalanchoe...
Yooooo Ma'am!! My Mother Of Thousands has the very long stem, with these beautiful dangling bell blooms, but I could not understand why does it seem to be dying. The blooms are now gone, 2 weeks now, and STILL the mother plant seems to be dying. I thought I am actually killing it somehow, so how and why? Thank You So Much!! NOBODY has explained this, let alone talk about the stems growing large with blooms. I paused the video at 5:53 to write this, and Subscribe 😁😁😁😁😁😁 Huge Air Hugs From Iow Ma'am!.......🤗 PS: I grow up in Amarillo Texas. I LOVED the Yucca plants, as we had hundreds and hundreds of them growing wild where I grew up. I NEVER understood why they died after they got their blooms. Monocarpic!! Thank You!!!!!!
Love your collection❣️ I use to have a mother of thousands in the 70’s, lol One of my first ode plant for me, lol sadly it’s way gone. Haven’t seen any here since, lol love the fang!
It' funny how plants have been around and popular for decades, yet we see them as new now. I remember my mom having an amazing (and huge) burro's tail hanging on our back patio. When she moved to AZ she gave the plant away, that was over 30 years ago.
My mom basically just dropped her dehydrated kalanchoe blossfeldiana into my hand and told me to repot it because she just "doesn't do that stuff". Because I never heard of them before I figured I'd do some research about them first and maybe propagate it just in case I can't save the plant. This really helped me with figuring out how to care for it so I can hopefully save it! Thank you! (Also: Why do people keep gifting my mother plants!? It's wildly known that her mindset about plants is basically that if it can't deal with her basically completely neglecting it, it's just gonna die. (She managaed to kill all of my 13 plants in the span of one week a few years ago. I only recently got plants again and I couldn't be happier!))
You won't believe this! I lived in Alhambra the first 8 years after arriving from Cuba. This was in the '70's. I have great memories of that beautiful city.
I didn't realize that the Copper Spoons grew tall like yours! I had a baby one that came in with a few other succulents and unfortunately didn't make it. I would love to find a bit more mature one and also look for the Silver Spoons as well. Great video!!
Do you water the copper spoons on a schedule? Like every two weeks or once a week? I can’t figure out whether mine wants more or less… it seems like it likes less and it is on my patio in mostly shade with a bit of early morning sun … yours looks amaze balls! I’m currently binge watching your channel!
I have mine outside and in the Summer, I water every week. In the winter, I'll back off and water every couple of weeks. Also, if it rains, I'll skip a watering.
I have several kalanchoe/paddle plants. I pulled several pups off my mother plant, they had no roots but, I planted them anyway. How successful do you think these baby plants will be ? Our weather is tropical and I have these plants in direct sunlight.
I have never seen this type of Kalanchoe. Is it only available in your area? I live in central Florida and all I've seen is the basic smaller Kalanchoes.
sorry to ask do i put my kalanchoe in darkness or just leave on the window still i did not know the was so meny of kalanchoes i hope i fine same like you i yellow and red and very light pink and dark purple i hoping to fine any orange
According to ‘Alexa’ the correct way to pronounce Kalanchoe is Kal-en-ko. Fang needs to catch up all sides to hang and stand so he can be used as a chandelier!!
The mother of thousands will probably benefit from more sun. They can handle a lot of direct sun. It will probably sunstress into other colours and grow more compact....I think lol
