    I'm finally chopping and extending my monstera adansonii moss pole! I'm going to be sharing my process and how I plan to transfer the plant off a plastic pole onto a wire pole. This was my first chop and extend so I'm really happy with how it turned out for me! I really hope you enjoyed the video and learned something new about having plants on moss poles.
    Soil Mix: I used mostly Sol Soils for aeration and I added in a few scoops of my normal chunky mix I make for some extra nutrients

    I hope you learned something from the video! It was a crazy process and my first pole chop but I'm happy with how it turned out. I filmed this Sunday and so far it seems to be doing well. Some slight yellowing on the bottom leaves but it's a picky plant so I expect some shock to happen. I'll keep you updated! ☺

      It looks healthy and think it will grow very fast soon with such good roots.

    Wow, a successful operation by Doctor Melissa! You did a very good job explaining the logic behind all the steps you took for the polectomy and that really helps neophytes like myself learn. I think that the metal mesh has a better appearance than the plastic and it seems to be easier to work with as well because of its bendability. I’ll be looking forward to seeing updates about the health of the patient. Thanks much.

      Aw thank you! Haha polectomy 😆😆😆 I love the metal just harder to cut and bend but it’s worth it for more stability ☺️ hoping it survives okay some slightly yellowing on the bottom leaves so a little shock but looking forward to seeing how it does for me 🙏🏼

    You made that way more difficult than it could be lol. Rather than overlapping the pole and losing height, you can just attach the pole to the green rod.

    Definitely very helpful, thank you! 💚🙌 I was having some declining adonsonii leaves at the base of my pole.. so I chopped from the top, I’m propergating in nutrient water, and will add back to mother plant in hopes for a full climber... Some day I may chop in half to add another pole and encourage larger leaves 💚🪴🪴😊

      Thank you so much! I’m really glad it was helpful! I wished I had started more cuttings in this one from the beginning but it was one of my first poles I did so it was definitely a learning experience. It was scary to chop it but if it does okay then I know I can do it and so can others! ☺️🙏🏼

    When you chop what do you usually do with the bottom half for other chops? Do you now have two of the poled up plant or is it always worth just propagating the bottom half

    Why did you chose to switch to metal? just curious 🤨

    • @plantsbymelissa
      @plantsbymelissa  2 роки тому +1

      The plastic is too wobbly. As the plant grows and gets larger leaves it’s hard for plastic to support the weight especially if you extend the pole. Hardware cloth is more stable. I’ve really enjoyed using plastic but after having extended multiple plastic poles it just won’t cut it for my plant goals 🙏🏼

    if you have a rope inside the moss pole it will dry out eventually. you just dont have to water is as much

      It's doing well! I show it on my instagram a lot :) I have about 4 new leaves on top and they're slightly sizing up. It went through some shock though and lost a few leaves but happy to see it growing!

    Why would you do this? I personally want mine taller, you could have added another plant to make it fuller, I just don’t understand

    • @plantsbymelissa
      @plantsbymelissa  2 роки тому +1

      The plant will outgrow the current pole so you have to extend on top to allow it to continue growing. The original pole is too wobbly being plastic so I can’t extend again or it will fall over 😊
