    Thanks for posting. I appreciate your efforts and advice. Great that you`re honest about the rear shocks. It can be difficult to not get carried away blinding reviews to justify parting with £400. My stock shocks are perfect. Set on the lowest height as I have a higher comfort custom seat and a huge rugged rear tyre. This unintended combination gives a really comfortable ride. ✌

  • @daveh9003
    @daveh9003 3 роки тому +5

    Hehehe yes, the YSS rear preload is factory set to (I believe) circa 17 threads down. This is done to pre soften the spring from new prior to use. It would be akin to a back breaker to ride without adjustment from 17 turns - brave man. ☺
    I found over several adjustments, across hundreds of miles, that backing it off to around 5 threads, and having rebound set at softest plus three notches set mine up to perfection for me (12 stone). But as you note, it's essential to get rear done prior to front - or indeed vise versa. The front springs, I think you'll find deliver the greatest improvement. The two together make the bike so Uber planted, so very confidence inspiring. No more drama on sketchy surfaces. You'll be overjoyed & amazed at the performance uplift!!!! Enjoy.
    Nice video mate....

    • @WildlifeMoto
      @WildlifeMoto  3 роки тому +1

      Haha, yes it certainly was a backbreaker. I thought i'd give it a try out of the box but very quickly regretted it. I'm going to stick with about 7 for a while to help speed up the break in, i'll probably back it off after a couple of hundred miles.

    • @daveh9003
      @daveh9003 3 роки тому +2

      @@WildlifeMoto that is Exactly the process I followed. And yes, it's important to add many miles after each adjustment to judge how the springs 'bed down' to the new setting. It's fun, fine tuning until you hit the sweet spot jackpot of perfection. As for the booster plug, I hope you'll find the roll off throttle way smoother, and engine running somewhat cooler. Also, wemoto do not - or did not supply yss recommended fork oil. I went with Silkolene fork oil, a product which speaks for its self by superlative performance.

    • @WildlifeMoto
      @WildlifeMoto  3 роки тому +1

      I got my spring kit from Tec. It came with a "free" bottle of 15 Watt YSS branded oil. Not sure if I should use this or go with the highly regarded Silkolene oil. It would be a right PITA to have to change it.

    • @daveh9003
      @daveh9003 3 роки тому +2

      @@WildlifeMoto I see the dilemma you are in.
      If I may, had wemoto supplied yss fork oil to me (they don't/didn't even sell the yss oil for the yss fork springs they sell) then I would have happily used the recommended yss fork oil.
      They didn't so for me, I chose Silkolene because I know first hand, how good it is.
      I don't suppose at the end of the day there would be a majorly noticeable difference, given the Interceptors performance. Its perhaps merely a question of 'zigging' this way, or 'zagging' that way. Whichever path zig or zag, once made forget over thinking, just keep on going, decision made.
      Ditto that with indicators - do not let detractors make you doubt your own choice for your own bike. As you stated, RE themselves intended this bike (a la triumph bonneville ) always to be a starting platform for making it your own. (or not) Ye pays ye money, ye make ye own choice. Keep up the great work, it's All good mate.....

    Ref suspension, The hardness is more likely due to having too much compression damping.
    Set the dynamic sag for your weight, then adjust the damping to get the ride control to suit your riding style.

    • @WildlifeMoto
      @WildlifeMoto  3 роки тому

      Yes, I've not changed any of the factory settings yet (apart from backing off the Pre Load). When I start playing around i'll upload my findings. Thanks for the tip.

    • @studioscale
      @studioscale 3 роки тому +5

      @@WildlifeMoto I just finished setting up the rear YSS shocks on my Interceptor. I found that changing the sag did not alter comfort at all so I left it at 30mm (not 30mm of preload at the preload adjustment nut, but of suspension travel). For rebound and damping at 15 clicks as it came from the factory it was WAY too hard. I found that at 3 to 5 clicks for compression (screw at the top) and 10 clicks for rebound it feels realy nice for every day riding. Ill play with it some more of course, but for now it feels great. I weigh 91kg for reference.
      Anyhow, what the point is, dont try to fix comfort by adjusting preload on a fully adjustable shock. Set the preload according to the correct measurement, which should be 25% to 30% of total travel, and then play with damping and rebound. Damping will have more of an effect on overall comfort.

    If you have a very soft spring on the front and a harsh spring on the back then the front springs will not allow the rear spring to work properly by absorbing more than their fair share of bumps. If you had no damper on the rear the front forks still compress or slacken when the rear wheel hit a bump or fell down a hole. It is why just front forks work well on a mountain bike - they still do their job when the rear wheel hits a bump.

    Fair point well made re 'modernising' the look of your thoroughly modern 2020 RE! And the sound is gorgeous, even more so now you hv more revs to play with. But I wonder about those YSS shocks. You've gone from 17 turns to 7 & they're still way too hard, with not much adjustment left. Possibly a change of springs? Or a chat with Hagons - quite local to you!

    Just a suggestion, you can check out the Motone website for retro styled indicators which has a Black Custom Billet Indicator which suits the Interceptor and the Bonni alike. It will complete the look, though it’s a bit costly. One is £64.99 and the other is £129.99, but trust me, it will look just awesome!

    • @WildlifeMoto
      @WildlifeMoto  3 роки тому +2

      Thanks for the suggestion. You'll see in later videos that I have now fitted Motogadget M-blaze pins on the back and front of the bike. These pins are almost invisible when inactive, I personally think this is best look. Don't forget that the original version of this bike (and other British twins) did not have any indicators. Thanks to modern tech, we can go back to that simplistic look, yet still have very bright indicators when active.

  • @syam1234567

    LED’s are too tiny and hard to see on sunny day and foggy weather. So I would stack two LED indicators on each side both front and back to make them brighter and bigger. They consume way less power compared to incandescent bulbs. The wavelengths of LED’s and incandescent bulbs are different. Halogen/ incandescent bulbs have longer wavelength and has greater penetration in a low visibility environment like foggy or rainy day whereas LED(after market) have shorter wavelengths and are suitable with clear visibility environment and due to lower wavelengths it has less visibility on a foggy or rainy day. A reason why many automobiles have LED headlights and Halogen brights and fog lamps.

    • @WildlifeMoto
      @WildlifeMoto  3 роки тому +4

      Hi Krishna, these LED's are really bright. I think they might be safer than the stock amber turn signals which can be hard to gauge if lit or not in sunny conditions. They are also E Marked, I guess that means that have passed some kind of safety test/ requirement too.

    I like everything you've done so far with the single exception of the front blinkers which to my eye look out of place (i.e., to "futuristic" looking for a retro). TEC parts has a full suite of led lights in one package (front and rear blinkers and a tail light) that is very nice and a good bargain.
    The boost plug doesn't add power; its purpose is to improve the lean factory air/fuel mixture on acceleration (i.e., to meet Euro compliance pollution standards. It increases fuel to the mix at low RPMs only during acceleration).
    If you want power gains from the exhaust side, the header pipes need to be changed bc that's where the flow restriction problem is.
    Such a great looking bike! Sounds awesome, too, with those pipes. Carry on, mate; so far, so good.

      The most traditional route for the Interceptor is to not have any indicators (just like the original bike). Here in the UK, indicators only became a legal requirement from 1986 onwards. With that in mind, i'll be going with the Mo Blaze pins to hide them away when not in use. Thankfully, LED technology can help us to get the most original look possible while staying safe and legal.

    Hey love your videos! At some point you said something about revs climbing but not making actual difference in performance and acceleration ,
    . I notice a similar thing where people tell me to shift gear taking it to its optimum evel of torque which is around 4000 to 4500k rpm , I did that but my problem is that I notice that the first gear doesn't seem to make much progress in speed after the 4000 rpm , However on a colder engine the first gear responses very well to throttle but after a while of warm up say 5 kms on a busy traffic the performance of the first gear drops , it does retain its pulling power but beyond 3000 rpm it seems pointless to rev it further . So i shift to second gear . People say I was shifting too early . Do you also notice similar issue on first gear after riding it for 10 -15min when engine is warmed up enough . I think is it with all bikes that throttle response is much more crisper on a colder engine compared to when the bike is in traffic ?

    • @WildlifeMoto

      Hi Vila’s. In my case it was because the mechanic who serviced my bike took out all the free play in the clutch. This meant the clutch couldn’t fully disengage and was slipping at higher RPM. I spotted it immediately and fixed the problem by slackening off the cable. It sounds to me like you have a similar issue. When cold you should have about 3mm of free movement in the clutch lever before it starts to pull on the cable.

      Hi Alan, yes it was on a slight tilt, but the level is also quite high. Yes, that's what I love about this bike, it's a simple platform that makes customisation easy (just like the bikes of the real Cafe Racer days). RF did exactly the right thing by putting all the RnD into the engine and frame, the rest is basic stuff that you don't mind stripping away and replacing (if you want). I've decided to get the Mo Blaze pins up front. These effectively hide the indicators when not in use (but very bright when active), a look much more in line with the original Interceptor (that didn't have indicators at all).

    You mentioned plastic indicators.
    Idicators on bikes have been made from plastic for donkeys years. I've owned BSA, Triumph, Norton, BMW and umpteen Japanese bikes that all came equipped with indicators made from plastic.
    What do you want your indicators made from?

      I have no problem with high quality plastic components. Fake chrome covered plastic? No thanks. If it’s shiny, it had better be metal.

    The std down pipes have a restrictive inner pipe,the 2 into1 tec pipe has a larger bore and is also alot lighter.

      Yes, however I just don’t like the look of that 2-1 set up. It takes something away from the style of this bike. I’m holding out for someone to produce a well made free flowing header system for the twin pipes.
