- What are the early signs of autism in a 2 year old? That is our most frequently asked question since revealing our 2 year old's severe autism diagnosis. This video includes footage of Leah's' early signs of autism from 2 years old and under.
Please note: The examples in this video are our experiences with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Many of the early signs of autism are also normal 2 year old behaviors when not combines with other symptoms or behaviors. Please speak with your doctor if you have any concerns about your child having autism.

DISCLAIMER: Hey everyone! I made this video and a few others early in our families autism journey so there may be language used that is no longer considered correct. In particular the word "severe". I was just going with what I knew at the time. I am still learning everyday about how to best support my daughter and her peers. Thanks for understanding!
I'm studying autism level 2. I'm enjoying the course and learning so much
Thankful for mothers like you who put the signs of autism out there for others to see… I am a great grandma concerned for my great grandchild. This has been most helpful. Thank you.
Wow I would have just looked at her as a typical 2 yr old. My daughter didn't speak until she was three. She doesn't have autism and teaches English now.
Hi. May I please ask? Your child spoke perfectly in that 3 years or that's when she started learning? I'm worried mine is turning 3 in two months but she only know some words but cannot construct a sentence. I'm scared to get her examined
@@mmathapeloangel7992 Why are you scared? I got my child examined so that she could receive help. My daughter would say words here and there at the age of three but wouldn't didn't speak in sentences until she was 4 . She's 24 now. Once she started talking ,she perfected the English language. Throughout school she was play writing..lol. I hate when she corrects my grammar. lol..Please get your child examined because if it is autism you can start intervention. She might be like my daughter who just needed to be around other children in a school like setting early.

Wow, there are such awful comments on here! I am so sorry that people have been so rude! Thank you for being bold and sharing this video to help others! I have an autistic son. It was videos like this that helped me realize what was going on with him. I think every mom of a child of with autism has heard the comment, “oh that’s normal for a 2 year old” etc. NO ONE but a parent of a child with autism understands. Thank you for sharing! Your daughter is adorable!
People are always so mean to me and my family on here we stopped posting for a whole year. Trying to come back though now that it’s been a while and I have been able to accept things more and be less sensitive. But ya ppl suck and don’t get it

Thankyou for your video and was so helpful and a insight what My 2 yr old daughter Lilly is showing every sign you showed in this video of what Leah is doing. 5:54 My family has been seeing these signs and we have a up coming assessment to get answers and a possible diagnosis.
Watching what your daughter does every step you show is like watching my daughter. I work in disability support work and I just know in my gut she has autism, even friends and family of mine with children with autism say they see it in my daughter.
Will be following your family now and I find you very helpful in the information that just might help my daughter Lilly and our family 🥰
I’m so glad this helped sorta validate your thoughts and feelings on it all. I totally understand that gut feeling but also the second guessing. I just uploaded a new one last night with sort of a 2-3 yrs old update with some new clips as well :) glad to have you here!

i am obsessed with her :)
She’s adorable and lucky to have such a beautiful family.
Thank you so much!
The hopping and jumping seems like normal happy behavior for a 2 year old child. She is very adorable and appears to be just enjoying life. i don't see why that is a problem or a warning sign, isn't that what 2 year olds do?
@@curtisjones400 it’s not so much the hopping or flapping on its own it’s more the excessiveness and repetition. Also all of these behaviours on their own are fairly mundane but when they become excessive and repetitive and they are combined all together with speech delays and very big communication delays is when you may want to ask about autism :) all toddlers dabble in these things but they don’t do it obsessively and all at the same time. Hope that helps!

I have autistic brother...iam from india ,he is an introvert and 35yrs old.I have three boys who loves him so much and also understands what autism is all about.
...but the sad part is my bro n law's (husband's younger brother) son is hyper active and i noticed that he did have the signs of autism when he was 9 months....the first thing was not responding or reacting to his name when its been called around 10 to 15 times.....i was in doubt but still knew many things about autism and tried to watch the child closely.... I noticed every single signs related autism because he was so hyperactive and wasn't acting normal at all.....when i mentioned this to my kids they understood....but my husband couldn't....😢i kept crying and directly went to the childs mom and said that she need to consult a Doctor...she refused...and said tht her child is normal

It makes me so mad when people that have no idea what ASD is comment “oh that is typical child behavior.” yes, my TWO year old is still a typical toddler and is still autistic! You don’t have to look a certain way to be diagnosed with ASD. That is why it is a spectrum.
THANK YOU!! Some of these comments upset me and make me feel like I am just trying to say she’s “sick” she is not sick she is autistic and she is amazing and just needs love and support. Thankfully I think my video helped people despite a few mean comments ❤️
My 3 yo ASD girl showed all but 1 these, uts very helpful :)
I'm glad it resonated with you :)
Hand flapping is not autism. It's just throwing a fit because when they are younger, especially with their first child, the parents are at their becking call every time they squeak or make a noise, so when they get older they still expect immediate attention and handing them everything they want instead of them reaching for it. themselves. I have seen this over and over.... When parents have more children the parents tend to ignore the every want of a child and they will see the second child throws less fits than the first child. Tip toeing is also not autism. It's discovery of well, they have found a new discovery. It's only when it becomes permanent it's questionable. Docs used to say it was neurological, now it's autism? I have never known one child that has visited a psychologist or development doctor that has been diagnosed normal. Please remember many times there are big govt grants $$$$ for diagnosis of autism's and the justification is diagnosing the more kids the more money the get in return in reimbursements to support their program and if they don't they get reduced money in their pocket or lose their autism program. Keep that in the back of your hat next time you see a developmental doctor. .
You are right, they just diagnose once you sent the child

Sorry I have to disagree with you on flapping arms as part of early sign of autism.
Does it mean when a child flaps their arms they have autism certainly not . Of course, observation is the key
The hand flapping is the first sign I noticed in my oldest son
That was for sure one of our first things to. She still does it a lot
from which month u notice your son hand flapping?
Our Grand son is exhibiting all the traits and he is being given treatment with pediatric neurologist and speech therapy is also being given to him. Very slow progress indeed.
It absolutely can feel like an uphill battle. Patience is key because autism is primarily a developmental disability so it will usually take much longer to hit milestones in these younger years. Hang in there you are already doing a great job having him in speech therapy and supporting him ❤️

My nephew had a lot of these traits when he was toddler. Now he is a fun loving typical 7 year old boy who will sometimes still display some of these traits but not as often as he did. He is not autistic but he was diagnosed with Apraxia.

Have you tried get her off sugars and more whole food diet? I heard her being offered apple juice early in your video. She doesn’t need fruit juice. Water is best and whole fruit. Try changing her diet and see if that helps.

Very interest ❤️
My son at 2 years old had finger pointing, pretend play, had many friends and was and still is loved by kids, had eye contact, respond to his name most of the time, he imitates, he could folow all simple commands, but had only 10 words and used question sentinces, he didn't understand lenguage much and still has trouble speaking, had some repetitive behaviour and some stimms. He never had had flaping, never tip toed, very social, sweet and happy boy. He had and still has limited food prefrences (he ate everything till 18 months), sleeped always good, EEG is normal. He is now 4 years old and is very behind. He is still not verbal. He has more then 50 words and senetences he uses but it is not very good and i wouldn't call it being verbal because he talks in his own language most of the time. Words he uses are 90% of the time functional. He has no echolalia. He is at 2.5 year level cognitivly and with his speach. His motor skills were always good. They were not shure if he had autism but now they say he is for shure on the spectrum, we just have to do a test in a month to find out wich level. So he is not the clasic case because he doesn't have the typical red signs but i had this gut feeling from when his 18 months when he had regression. I just wasn't 100% shure.
Sounds like he is doing great but it wouldn't hurt to maybe look into some speech therapy to help him catch up! You are doing a great job as his mama :)

This is exactly what I was looking for 1.5 years ago when I started seeing signs in my toddler, later he was diagnosed with Autism. He was doing everything you mentioned in the video. Thank you for sharing your journey, it will help a lot of parents looking for answers! To the parents, if you see signs in your child, don't lose time in denial, push your pediatrician to get your child evaluated, it is important to start the support as early as possible.

Mi hijo tiene 5 años presenta todos esos sintomas y otros como puedo controlarlo; esta empezando a tomar terapias; sospecho q tiene autismo severo; es muy triste espero q su hija mejore; buena suerte.
I have 2 things to say one a mother knows when something is wrong so stop telling her this is a normal behavior in toddler cause it's got nothing to do with your opinion your probably one of those parents that sees it and denies it because you treat it like a disease and 2 if you don't fight to get that diagnoses early you might never get it because they try not to put labels on kids which I get but it wasn't till I got my son diagnosed did he get the help he needed in school. So instead of saying oh this is normal behavior from a 5 10 min video you don't see the toddler every day and neither do I. Keep taking care of that sweet little angel your doing great and don't mind other people's comments.

Thank you for making this video, I was just gonna ask about speech disorders, and also if this could be a result of ADHD, or some thing like dyslexia?
I’m getting my daughter assessed soon because she shows a lot of signs and struggles with meltdowns a lot. I don’t know if I have ASD (I had every sign in childhood, but it’s too hard to get a diagnosis as an adult) but I just want my daughter to be able to have a successful and happy life.
She was delayed with walking, and it was a little strange though, because she was really early before that with everything. Like she started crawling at six months, she could sit up by three months. And at eight months she was standing. And then nothing until 15 months she did not take a step.
I am really confused about the speech part though because I do have ADHD, and my daughter also shows a lot of signs of that. I know she’s a child, but we both struggle with attention issues very severely. She does more like sounds and I also think they might be assisted you because she says words, but nobody can understand them except for me and I think it’s only because I spend a lot of time and watch her constantly.
I just want to know what I can be doing to help her now I would say she says about 10 to 15 words really well but a lot of them are like animal noises. (Quack quack is a favorite, I also didn’t know that continuously, repeating the same word was a sign, which is some thing that I feel guilty about now because I do that all the time and for a long time I was encouraging it, and I feel really guilty now)
This is why it’s also been brought up that most likely. I also have ASD. Apparently my fiancé gets very annoyed with my echolalia to this day. I didn’t even realize I did it until about 10 years ago when someone pointed it out and got really mad at me for it.
And I still didn’t really understand it until I actually did some research on Autism. I wish I knew if it was possible though, because sometimes I feel like the reason why my daughter is like this is because of me, but it has made things very complicated.
My family is very very heavily against any sort of ASD diagnosis. That’s why I was never diagnosed as a child. Do you have any tips on how I can help my daughter but also not hurt my relationship with my fiancé? He’s really against it as well, but a lot of it is because he refuses to learn anything about it.
I love my daughter and I just don’t want her to have to struggle through everything like I did. I’ve never been able to hold onto a real. I’ve never gotten anything higher than an 84 in school and that was after a lot of extra help and hours and hours of trying .
I did not struggle with talking, but more so I would talk so fast that you would not be able to understand what I was saying. Apparently that is not considered a speech problem though.
My daughter also has this problem I think that’s why nobody understands what she’s saying. I feel like I constantly have to defend that. That was a word.
This is why I feel like it’s really confusing to tell because like one of the biggest examples is how she says green beans , she says eenbee. Thank you for making this video again it was actually very insightful. I hope you and your family are doing well and thank you for helping mine.❤
It’s so hard to say because a lot of other disorders and issues have similar symptoms or delays so it’s really best to do an assessment. Autism has a pretty specific profile for most kids but I have heard of ADHD being linked to speech delay. Anytime your child has motor delays or social delays and speech delays I will always recommend seeking out a professional assessment if you can. I wish you all the best and just know that you are doing an amazing job mama ❤️

What a beautiful girl. I can assure you that the symptoms exhibited by your little girl is also the exact same symptoms exhibited by my own 2 year old son. He does hand flapping whenever he's excited or do not like something (he seems to be flapping more vigorously if he doesn't like things). He does the jumping, even when sitting down, and I have seen him starting to do this as early as 6 months old. He could only babble random noises, and he has plenty of stimming behaviors as well (he seems to be very interested in pressing buttons though, which my wife told is probably a consequence of him watching me, a software engineer, doing my work at home during the pandemic).
Leah likes buttons too! And cameras and those are things I use and have a lot of with my job

Autism is a heavy metal issue.
I have seen many parents use Coseva TRS spray and it works wonders for their kids. If you can get your hands on liquid zeolites or powder form it will help detox your child from heavy metals.

I think mine has autism but she doesn’t have any of those signs. I guess she’s very mild so far. I would not get her diagnosed because if she gets labeled in my country she can get in a lot of trouble as an adult wanting to have children and getting jobs etc. the system wont help kids or adults with autism but rather use the diagnosis to discriminate them. That’s what I’ve seen.

Hi Julia, hope you're doing fine. Please which country is this
For all the people out there who think this is not accurate, I assure you that a toddler with autism is very different from a normally developing child. I have four children and my third child was different from the day he was born. I couldn't pin-point why he seemed different, but he just was. I'll skip over all the details because he is very similar to this child and was diagnosed with autism at 2 years old. But here's the thing that's really important, I had another baby after him and that baby had none of the same "oddities" that my autistic son has. People who met my son don't think he has autism, but people who interact with him regularly can see how he is very different. He's almost 4 and he's finally started to play pretend; he shares his food with his toys... and that's the extent of his pretend play, but it's a big step for him. His delays are mostly social. He has very good speech (expressive speech), but his understanding of language is delayed (receptive speech). His gross motor skills are phenomenal, he even learned to ride a two-wheeler at the age of 3. He's our most loving child (very affectionate) and just had the sweetest heart, but it's different with him... You feel like he's somewhere else in his mind most of the time.
These kids are different, and it's as simple as that.

It sounds normal for toddlers as they grow up😂😂
When did she start hopping and flapping her hands
Very young. Less than 1 year old but became more obvious at age 1 and up
Ok thank you!! I’m sorry…. Keep up the good work.
Am I the only person that think that most of this Is normal for a two year old ,besides the speech part. Probably should sit down and actually talk real words to her
This was me as a little girl. With the sofa especially.
No diagnosis as of today, COVID really made everything worse in our healthcare system. I'm 31 and suicidal. I'm completely cut of from society, wasn't able to mask anymore, lost everyone, everything and my jobs.
I'm devastated.
Parents, please do your kids a favor and get them to professionals when you notice something.
Please. It's not for you. It's for them. Please don't shut your eyes bc you don't believe in such things or don't wanna have it to be true.
There are a lot of children labeled autistic today. The government does give financial help to families with austistic children if they fit within their guidelines. I wonder about that sometimes? Once there is a diagnosis the money starts coming in. Our money, the taxpayers. Everything shown in this video I've seen in all toddlers. Makes me wonder about validity? I saw a family on here with four autistic children. I would have thought good idea to stop at two.
I get zero government cash for this and in fact had to leave my successful career to stay home and care for her. Severe autism is a SIGNIFICANT disability and isn’t diagnosed out of nowhere. This video was years ago and she’s very much still autistic today, developmentally delayed and requires speech therapy, occupational therapy and behavioural therapy as well as a level of supervision that goes well above normal. Most families struggle to access any therapy funding or programs and depending on location none may be available at all. Waitlists are years long and many of our kids will never be able to live independently. This life is hard. It’s not a money train it’s a money DRAIN. Your comment is not only wrong but insulting and misinformed.
Your herbs has work wonders in my family.
Thanks for the help Dr Oyalo for saving my son from autism spectrum with your herbs. Your herbs is the best.
I can't tell you how many drunk mom's I've met who always try and blame it on the child.
Oh wow. That’s awful :(
Wrong info … don’t listen this lady .,, normal kid also does this stuff… I think the most important symptoms of autism 1. Your kid do not socialize at all and play alone all the time 2. Don’t respond to you or anyone ..don’t smile … 3. Gets emotional in a very small thing all the time
Uh, this sounds like a normal two year old. Circular reaction (dropping things over and over is NORMAL development), this video makes me sad that parents are so quick to label their young child!
She is literally diagnosed with autism. These behaviours can be normal alone or not repetitively. They can be a sign of autism when there are many at once and they are repetitive. If you google early signs of autism on any medical sight it will be similar results
I totally agree. Those behaviours ARE normal for a two year old baby.
@@belindaransby2357 not really
It’s not normal lady. Normal 2 year olds have like 50+ words
@@pluckytheducky4352 I will say it again..... Those behaviours APART from the speech ARE normal LADY..... Or are you a man?? As you should know children develop at their own pace regarding speech. My daughter started to talk very early yet my son said nothing until he was three. He was not autistic. He is a college lecturer now. I need say no more.
All these normal children do.
She has a diagnosis and has autism. These signs are not a guarantee but just signs. Ask your doc if you ever have concerns
😡😡😡😡😡
The first sign is that your kid received vaccines
not really
You are just rude...🤐 and don't watch this video...
I know a child with autism who wasn't vaccined so please get your facts straight
There’s a short bus 🚌 in this kids future.
I mean ya. I'm cool with that tho.
Look my sons autistic with adhd he's ten he's on a short bus and I'm glad he is he runs in the street without looking so I'm sorry but if it is for possible safety who cares what anyone thinks.
Those are the normal behaviour of a normal 2 Year old child, why this lady labelled her child as an autistic, for some UA-cam views!
She is autistic … and I didn’t label her she is professionally diagnosed
Yeah I was done with this video the minute I saw the rainbow in the background
It’s a grims toy….
This is rubbish , it’s normal for all toddlers to behave this way but nowadays doctors tagging them as autistic and even their own parents , in india many kids start talking at 2 and half or 3 but still they are not autistic. And secondary instead of showing mobile and tv to your kids it’s better to spend the one with them so they don’t make their own world
She’s 4 now and is absolutely autistic
There is permanent herbs to improve autism. It’s a medicine you can get from Dr Oyalo UA-cam channel, his herbs have made my son improve perfectly in his speech and social skills
