  • Today (July 13th) in 2007, Steve Kaufmann uploaded his first video... about his chair. Still, it's an incredible milestone to have reached, to be consistently encouraging the Internet for an entire decade! So a bunch of us got together to make this collaborative video in the style of a news broadcast, for "PNN" (Polyglot News Network), to celebrate it, and to finally put the input vs outputt language learning methods to the battle that the language learning community has been waiting for!

    I was blindsided and blow away by this video (just a few slang words for you English learners) and most of all tremendously grateful. You will be able to see my video response, a much more modest production, later today on my channel. Thank you Benny and all who participated. Our polyglot(linguist) community is the greatest!

      Thanks for that multilingual response Steve. Truly impressive, and great to have each person's contribution individually recognized!
      See you again soon!

      I just noticed that this comment is coming from a completely different channel Steve has started, already with over 1K subscribers 😀

    Today (July 13th - I've uploaded this just at the end of the day here) in 2007, Steve Kaufmann uploaded his first video... about his chair. Still, it's an incredible milestone to have reached, to be consistently encouraging the Internet for an entire decade! So a bunch of us got together to make this collaborative video in the style of a news broadcast, for "PNN" (Polyglot News Network), to celebrate it, and to finally put the input vs output language learning methods to the battle that the language learning community has been waiting for!
    I hope you guys enjoyed it, and that the fun-poking about the input vs output debate comes across well! I noticed in watching it over that I made a few mistakes myself (finger-spelled Kris as Krys in ASL, said a few things wrong in Italian etc.), but I still think it turned out pretty well and I'm really appreciative for everything the contributors did to help me make this happen!

    Congratulations to Steve! Not only for having been on UA-cam for 10 years, but for helping many people, inspiring them, and learning 8 languages since! Also, that editing was amazing!

      +PassionforDreaming Steve's great - he's not afraid to tell it how it is! His videos are excellent to watch just by him pressing record, sharing his thoughts and uploading. 🙂
      When I make a video, I have to do a huge amount of work outside of recording, and he's still kicking my ass in terms of UA-cam success. It just goes to show that many different styles work!

And the technical quality is superb, making for a very professional looking news program. My hat is off to you and your crew, and I hope we get to see more of these kinds of videos in the future.

    Steve is an amazing polyglot and a huge inspiration to me. Trough these past 5 years since I started learning Spanish I've watched every one of his videos and he really kept me motivated and made me believe I could learn another language and today I can say that I am bilingual in Spanish and English which is an amazing satisfaction :).

    Benny I have a question. I have noticed that you have a very good accent in spanish and portuguese. But do you have to force yourself when you make it while you are speaking or does it come naturally to you?

    • @irishpolyglot
      @irishpolyglot  6 років тому

      I still have to work on aspects of my language, but fortunately, I don't need to force anything. It's lots of spoken practice, combined with intentional effort to reduce my accent over time, that was very active and intentional, but improved my spoken abilities such that I don't even think about them now. For instance, I worked with a singing instructor in Rio to figure out what aspects of my accent could be trained out of me, in both musicality and intonation, tone etc.

  • @sabrinam1969
    @sabrinam1969 7 років тому

    Benny, may I ask your tips on learning if you are on a low income and cant decide to live and immerse yourself in a country of your language choice? I am a single mum and really want to learn languages and become a polyglot but I am unable to afford the packages out there or find a regular conversation friend/partner.

    • @irishpolyglot
      @irishpolyglot  6 років тому

      Why can't you find a regular conversation partner? What language are you learning? Is it possible that you might be holding a conversation partner to certain standards that may be unrealistic? If you truly can't afford lessons, then if you are flexible with a language partner, you should absolutely find someone no problem. When I've seen this issue in the past, people have set the bar way too high and been caught in perfectionist paralysis.

    • @TheFiestyhick
      @TheFiestyhick 5 років тому

      Not a problem.
      Just get materials from library and buy used study courses with audio from Amazon.
      Then, go to language exchange websites and find partners and speak on Skype, all for FREE.
      Any smart phone can allow you to do Skype video chats and lately unlimited plans are cheap (in the US).
      Also use UA-cam tutorials. There's tons of free lessons there. Plus look for additonal online resources and free apps.
      Following those tips, you can learn almost any language for under $150 US (TOTAL COST)

    Sorry, but i'm ukrainian, and i must admit, that i understood the ukrainian part only by subtitles, the prononciation is very bad, but it's still better than my cantonese prononciation ( i have never learned it) )))))
