Oh, the places you'll go thanks to language learning! Tribute to Moses McCormick in 51 languages

- Опубліковано 29 чер 2024
- The amazing Moses McCormick (aka laoshu505000) recently passed away, so the language learning community has come together for this big send-off collaboration.
Hopefully, you like this idea of mine. I organized all the contributors (with help from Tetsu Yung and Richard Simcott), coordinated their submissions, and did all the edits (yes, all those effects were by me). Thanks to Jonathan Seabolt for gathering the footage of Moses used and music is by Jordan Grigg.
I got the inspiration to do this video from this one: • Oh, the Places You'll ... . In my version, we each translated our lines to our assigned languages, of the poem "Oh, the places you'll go" by Dr. Seuss, which has that optimistic sense of adventure in life that I always associated with Moses. He will truly be missed, and I hope this tribute is worthy of the legend himself.
Don't forget to subscribe to my channel for a different spin on language learning and foreign language videos, as well as a series of upcoming videos about recovering from hard times to get your mojo back. Or check out my other links below for my content elsewhere.
Leave a comment if you'd like to translate the subtitles file, so the video is more accessible in other languages! Also, please feel free to share your favourite Moses moments, or what you most enjoyed about this video in the comments too!

One thing I've learned in this last year of lockdown is improved video editing skills and workflows. It's why I took on this ambitious project shortly after I heard the very sad news of Moses' passing.
Thanks so much to all the many polyglots who worked with me and my very specific requests, to help get this video ready this quickly. I truly hope it shows how much love the community has for Moses that so many busy polyglots were so eager to work on this.
I hope you all enjoy it, and that it's a worthy send-off for this incredible legend!
you did an awesome Job!!!
@Benny Lewis
Hey there, I'd like to translate a subtitles file into Spanish.
@@kolbypalmer7816 Thanks Kolby! Please download this file, edit it in a basic text editing program, and maintain all timestamps and spacing and send it back to me!
drive.google.com/file/d/1H1KC66yucMQ0v6HS2LjnT1_oIieF3muh/view?usp=sharing
You really did a great job on this. Thank you.
@@irishpolyglot I tried to download the file, but my google drive says that the type of file is not compatible. Any suggestions on what I could do?
Thanks for putting this huge project together, Benny. I'm sure Moses would have loved it.
I know he would have. Thanks for contributing!!
I didn't know u spoke Hebrew, it was however beautiful
@@elnoruego6854 That's like one of Paul's first languages he learned I think and on of his better languages.
Indeed he would
Thank you Benny for arranging this initiative. I am sure Moses would have loved this. RIP to a great inspiration.
Thanks so much Lindie; was great to collab with you on this!
We did our friend proud. His legacy will live on forever! Love to everyone! #Laoshu505000Forever
Thanks again for your help with this, Richard!
Thank you Richard for your tribute as well.
This was the perfect way to "Memorialize" Moses, So many people from around the world, Thought very highly of him, And how he tried to bridge the world, one language at a time. He will be truly missed, But he knows his "Gift" will be carried on by many people for years to come.
Very true. His influence will live on forever.
Thank you Benny, this video is truly beautiful. The little footages of Laoshu here and there made me cry... Rest in peace Moses McCormick, you will live forever in the heart of people you've touched and inspired.
Thanks for your powerful wrap up clip, Christine!
Have to admit this made me cry too 😢, going to miss Laoshu
Hats off to all the polyglots for giving such a fitting tribute to Late icon and legend Laoshu.
I loved this so much. RIP Moses ❤️
A very fitting tribute! Go raibh maith agat, Benny!
Thanks for joining in!
Great tribute: I'm guessing that nobody was an L1 speaker? All speakers of the languages I know (Swedish, Norwegian, English, German, French and Portuguese) did a really great job. And it's particularly pleasing for some reason to see someone speaking a language that's normally spoken by someone from a very different ethnic group: a black woman speaking Japanese, an Asian family speaking French, a white man speaking Tibetan. There must be such a story behind all of them: What was their motivation? What's their story? Love? Work? Flight? Sheer curiosity? It really gave me motivation to brush up on German and French and perhaps take on a new challenge.
No better way to pay tribute to Moses. Thank you Benny and Richard for putting this together!
Thanks for joining in on the initiative, Marcus!
I still can't believe it. Laoshu has been part of my youtube world since 2011 when I started learning mandarin 😢. Farewell Moses. Selamat jalan. Sampai jumpa.🙏🏼
What an amazing piece of work Benny. I love seeing folks like Steve, Paul, and Xiaoma and others collaborating to honor Moses. The most incredible polyglot and inspiration. RIP Laoshu
This is truly a wonderful tribute for Moses McCormick. Thanks, Benny and Richard for making this happen. I'm delighted to be part of this. ❤️
Thanks for joining in with us, Dean!
@@irishpolyglot it's an honor. 😊
I thought I was done tearing up over this guy .. what do you know !😢😢😔
Right. I got so choked up.
Rest in peace and condolences to laosuhu550, he inspired me to learn Japanese 🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵 and continue with my Japanese 🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵 studies.
I hope you continue for life!
@@irishpolyglot if I am consistent with my Japanese studies I will finish it either by the end of 2023 or early 2024. After that, I will start learning Mandarin 🇨🇳🇨🇳🇨🇳🇨🇳🇨🇳 in order to honor Laushu550 as he was extremely fluent in Mandarin.
@@mrgenetics4063 why?
Thank you Benny, Richard, Tetsu and all the others for making this happen. Moses has been such an appreciation to us all and I hope there are 50+ angels greeting him in 50+ languages at the pearly gates. RIP Moses for all of your encouragement and breaking so many barriers in the world.
Thank you Benny for all your work on this! Go raibh maith agat! Moses, thanks for the inspiration!
Appreciate the fellow Celtic language contribution. Thanks!!
So happy to be a part of this and to see the finished product. Thank you, Laoshu for being a trailblazer. Thank you Benny and Richard, for putting this together. Thank you to all the members of the language community who paid tribute.
Great to have you in it!!
What lovely tribute. I feel so sad that he is no longer around. He was a great inspiration to me in my language learning journey and always made me laugh. I pray that he is in a better place now. But he will be greatly missed.
He'll be forever missed!!
Been part of this community for 7+ years. Moses is a real OG and so are you Benny.
Here's to many more years!!
Gave me goosebumps watching this. What a great tribute to a great man. He inspired us all and will continue to do so. Thanks everyone who contributed and Benny for putting this together!
Wonderful way to honour Moses 💛
Thanks for bringing us all together for this, Benny! :)
Thank you everyone who did this tribute. I work at dollar tree and I have learned Spanish and I love it when I level up with native Spanish speakers. I bought a FLR course from Moses a few years ago in Chinese. I didnt actually complete the course but as a tribute to Moses, I am going to complete the course.
I got so emotional watching this. Such a beautiful tribute for someone who made so many smile.
Great work everyone - and you are a champion for making all this happen Benny
Thanks for another great contribution on a big polyglot collab video, Stu!!
Great job. When the Polyglot community comes together, it can be a powerful, uniting force of good.
I'm sure that Moses would have really appreciated this video! Thank You so much for doing this! Moses will be greatly missed!!!
Thank you so much for inviting us into this project and for putting it together. It was a great honor for me to be a part of it. May Laoshu's legacy live on forever and ever! Ollu giitu buohkaide! Thanks a lot everyone!
Moses was one of the most passionate and cheerful people. Behind that was a highly structured and intelligent approach to learning. He was an inspiration in so many ways.
it was his videos talking to complete strangers that made me want to learn another language
Rest In Power✊🏿✊🏿
Thank you for spearheading this Benny. Moses forever!!!!!!!
A lot of work, but totally worth it. Glad people are enjoying it!
This is amazing. I watched Moses throughout high school during a dark period of my life and he truly brought joy and an insight to the world. He will be dearly missed.
Thanks for putting this together! Let's make sure his influence and inspiration stay with the community always and keep motivating us to connect with peoples and cultures.
Thank you, Benny for this wonderful compilation of polyglots to honor Moses. I remember watching him so many years ago and being amazed and inspired by his curiosity, energy, and love of people and languages. He had such a great, positive attitude and it was always fun to watch him go places and level up his language experiences. We will miss him greatly. May he rest in peace and his legacy live on. ❤️
In tears. Thanks to all of you for creating such a beautiful tribute. It's amazing how he was able to study this many languages. RIP Moses, may your legacy live on
I'm so sorry to hear of his passing. Yes, he will be missed.
Thank you, Benny, for putting this together. What a labor of love!
Excellent tribute. You have worked so hard on this to get it looking great. What a fantastic tribute to Moses. Honoured to have taken part albeit only for a few seconds. Well done .
Still can't believe he is gone
हार्दिक श्रध्दाञ्जलि
You'll be missed , rest well Moses 🙏🙏🙏
This gave me severe goosebumps, and also brought tears to my eyes. This was an amazing tribute to the one whom inspired so many. This month has been insanely hard on me; however, I will work to help keep his legacy alive by learning more languages and bridging gaps like he has over the years. He was a huge inspiration to me, such as the person I am now.
Moses will be missed dearly.
RIP brother, fly high.🕊️
Within 2 mins I was tearing up. This is so beautiful and thoughtful.
This is awesome I love the way the polyglot community has rallied around this great man. Thank you all.
Such a great video! Rest in eternal peace, Moses 🌹
Thanks for your contribution, Patrick!!
Rest in peace, Moses. ❤️
He is one of the reasons why I want to learn many languages
Amazing tribute!! great job!
Bruce Lee once said
“If you always put limits on everything you do, physical or anything else, it will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them.” ~Bruce Lee
#LEGEND Moses Monweal McCormick aka Laoshu/Mouse went above and beyond those limitations! Rest in Paradise or Safe passage to the next life.... What ever happens next..keep leveling up Laoshu. One Love
This was a very beautiful and fitting tribute, I still can’t believe he’s not with us anymore.
I hope he knew how he inspired and how beloved he was by so many people that he touched just by being himself.
Amazing Benny!!,what an amazing and a very fitting tribute to Laoshu50500!,still cant believe he's gone 😢💔
Such a wonderful video seeing many polyglots here, and I recognised a few of them as well. There was even languages spoke that I didn't know even existed! 😊 😁
It's only fitting; I heard Moses use languages that I never knew existed before, so the video following that pattern is appropriate!
What a fitting tribute to such a great inspiration, not just for polyglots.
Incredibly touching, this was beautiful.
A fitting tribute to an amazing inspirational friend.
This is so sad. He is on of a handful of people who walk around, talk to strangers, learn many languages and engage in them. They try to build a connection and understand cultures; something I have done since 2003. I love it...some people find it weird, but it was amazing seeing people like Laoshi who would do this, and yet be respectful and open to learning more. This is sad to me and tragic, he made me feel like someone out there shared this quality and love of learning and speaking to strangers in order to connect with me. I hope his family are okay and he is at peace. Absolute legendary and much respect to you! 💔😪👊🏼
What a man he was and what a hearth.Rest in peace I miss him for what he has done.
This is absolutely amazing!! Beautiful work and representation.
Look at all the love this guy had for him. Thanks Benny for doing this.
Such a beautiful video, amazing, and touching! Well done! And so amazing to hear all those languages!
This video and all others that have been made to show how much Moses meant, well, they had to be made, of course. The message of Moses was simple, but it took hold of everyone. Thanks to all who have made videos in tribute of Moses. I watched his videos since he started, and did not agree with him on everything, but how could a person not develop a sense of family after watching someone grow for so many years? He will be long remembered by polyglots around the world.
Thank you Benny for putting together this video of our Big Bro in language learning.
This is LOVELY I friggin love the frigg out of this and everyone that participated and even everyone watching and wishing they could be part of the video for Moses as well. LOOK AT this wonderful person, everyone loved Thus man so much. He has had an immense impact of MANY people.
Absolutely beautiful. What a wonderful tribute.
It's a shame this video doesn't have more views although I've got a feeling that it is aimed more at the language learning community (people who Moses means a lot to) rather than a mainstream UA-cam audience.
Thank you
Truly beautiful and inspiring everyone, thank you for creating this.
How beautiful! Rip Moses
This was a beautiful tribute, thank you to all who contributed
