The wall is an emotional wall that he has built to protect him self from all the bad stuff that's happened during his life. However he feels trapped and isolated behind the wall. The worms eating into his brain is his own paranoia, depression and self doubts. The album or at least the film version of the wall is about a singer struggling with mental illness due to his childhood and life up to that point. Each song melds together and is like a chapter in a book. I recommend listening to the whole album from the start at some point even if you don't make a video of it.
Ease up guys, geez. It was his Mother, the school teacher, his wife, not having a father around because he was killed in the war, the pressures of being a rock star and life in general that he built this wall up for. Pink was a just a huge mental mess. Like everyone else is saying, you need to listen to the album in its entirety and then also watch the movie.
One of the best "concept albums" ever made, "The Wall" is the journey throughout "Pink's" life of ever increasing disparity between what he feels will fullfil his life. Everything he contends with, the death of his father during WW2, his overbearing mother, opressive education system, material posessions, and even his musical stardom results in little solace for his troubled soul; each is a "Brick" in his Wall of isolation and self-loathing. "Comfortably Numb", "Another Brick in the Wall Pt. 2", and "Hey You" as well as the rest of this masterpiece, are anthems to meloncholy and the want of more than what you are and what you have.
I think the "Wall" is also the separation between our true feelings and what society expects our actions to be. These societal pressures cause us to warp our true selves, on some occasions, and thus create internal neuroses and paranoia in response. This theme is also referenced in the song "Another Brick in the Wall", which talks about heartless teachers attempting to mold the students into "good little boys and girls" by ridiculing any deviant behavior.
Lyric meaning: He has already built his emotional Wall to protect himself from pain and rejection, but he has second thoughts. He still needs human contact, and calls out for it. But the Wall is already too high, so his descent into madness continues.
Yep,,,, a lesson in 'careful what you wish for'.... you long to be left alone, be isolated from people and the problems that come with them...however isn't it a cold stark reality once you truly are isolated...it's never as rewarding as your mind would have you think....
@@NL-ii9re Yes, but then he started grinning and reacted in a way that made Lex pause moving for a beat or two and then Brad started moving to the guitar solo. He hardly ever moves or says he likes the guitar solo, so this was not his normal behavior.
Agreed. You never know when you are just going to vibe out, rock out or get emotional listening to it. Sometimes it even brings out all of the emotions.
Pink Floyd were pioneers of the, 'concept album' in the 1970's. Every song in the album was a part of a larger story they were trying to tell. The Wall was one of those albums (I think it was a double-album). Those songs were all part of the story, The Wall dealt with people's tendencies to build a wall around themselves to shut people out and not let anybody in. "Hey You" was a call for help, a cry for human contact. It starts off with 'help me,' then 'hear me' and feel me and finally touch me. But as someone who has spent his life building this giant Wall around themselves - it was only a fantasy. He can't go over the Wall. So he begins to go crazy. Great reaction, guys!
To understand the meaning of songs on the CD "The Wall", you have to listen to the whole thing because one song has to do with another, and the CD in it's entirety tells a story
Well the whole point of this kinda channels is to learn about the bands and artists as u go and to read about them after reactions so one would think after doing few songs of the wall album they would know by now that is a concept album and the whole album is telling a story
There are 26 tracks on this double album (The Wall) which together make it a Rock Opera. Try reading only one chapter of a novel and then write a comprehensive book report - didn't work for me.
@@frightenedsoul True! But in the case of "the wall" album and many other concept albums it´s like driving/reviewing a new car and only talking about the headlights.
The Wall is a concept album and to really get the context of the song, you kinda have to listen to the whole thing. In my opinion, it's the best album ever recorded.
this band will change your life. They are like watching life go past while your still and fixed to images flashes of your past.they are so good at what they do. .hey you wake up
This solo just feels like it busts open a door in your house, latches on to you by the upper arm and marches you down the hall to show you something you desperately do not want to see.
It's about loneliness... Beautiful stuff. I like watching your reactions cause it makes me think about the first time I listened to these songs. In this case, 1987, when I was only 15. To this day, The Wall is one of my favorite albums. Hello from Brazil! I like what you're doing.
The first time I listened to it I did what David Gilmore said that he wished he could have done. Listen to it beginning to end stopping only to flip the album over. With headphones on. I forget what year it was but the album was just released. 1970 something 🤔
Pink Floyd's album, The Wall, is truely a masterpiece. From start to finish it describes band member, Roger Watters, experiences throughout his life that contributed to his mental and social challenges. Starting from his youth, watching his father go off to fight in WWII to having an over protective mother, dealing with mean teachers, later, being a rock star in a bad relationship, drugs, and so on. Brad should spend an hour or so off line with the lyrics and he will appreciate the genius. In short, The Wall is what he mentally constructed to protect himself from all of life's ills and all of those bad experiences were just bricks in the wall.
The Wall is a double vinyl where we follow the main character - Pink as he goes through his life. In the first vinyl we observe how Pink builds a wall around himself and seals himself off from society. This is the first song on the second vinyl which is his first attempt at reaching out to another person after being behind his wall for so many years.
David Gilmour playing guitar. David works basically inside the simple pentatonic scale, blues based, like a million guitarists before him. Yet when he starts playing, you instantly know his signature sound and approach. His notes can have an operatic feel, his vibrato is sublime, and the holes in his phrases punctuate his genius. This is how you make a guitar line into an anguished human voice. Yet so very few do.
The Wall as an album is brilliant, especially when considering the live show. During the first half of the album, a wall is literally being built on stage between the band and the audience. Once the wall was finished being built, they had the audience take an intermission. When the audience returned, Hey You is the first song played for the second half. It is played entirely behind the wall. The audience sees only the wall. When considering all of that, lyrically, it seems to be speaking directly to the audience member, while also keeping in step with the story arch within the album. Freakin brilliant.
Thank you Brad for not going for the pause right before the solo. You saved the day my man. Every David Gilmore fanatic is eternally grateful for your consideration!
Hey y'all as I'm sure others have already mentioned this, Pink Floyd's songs are truly mind-stretching but to really appreciate them individually you have to listen to the Albums in their entirety. You may not understand exactly what's going on but it will certainly make more sense! Now that was a mouthful you have to admit! Great reaction as usual, Bobby from N.C.
Lex is hilariously cute when she does her vocal renditions of the instrumental sections of a song. I'm sure you've been told this a bunch already Brad, but I'll say it again, you're a lucky man.
Oh my! Y'all in my wheelhouse today! Love it!! Brad, yes, the guitar solo was one of David's best. This song started off with David singing -- did you catch it when Roger began to sing? PF does that a lot.
Great reaction & thank God you didn't pause during David's guitar solo! 🤣🎸 🌟The song is about how although people put up their "Wall" to keep people out, they desperately but hopelessly long for real human interaction. Each verse tells of a desperate scenario followed by a question asking for human interaction.🌟
If there is just one album you should listen from beginning to end, The Wall is it. It's a story, a concept. The individual songs are great on their own, of course, but the whole album is indeed more than the sum of the individual songs. And yes, as others have suggested, after listening to the album also watch the movie.
I've been listening to The Wall since it was first released, yet I am still learning about how to grasp the meaning of their songs. Then Lex gives her interpretation and a whole new understanding is revealed! Thanks Lex - your insight is quite remarkable.
Takes me back to sitting on the floor leaning back against the wall and just being so stoned. I am now 70 but Pink Floyed music was most often listened to while being stoned back in the day.
Lex's analysis is startlingly accurate. There is a movie called "Pink Floyd -The Wall". It is very weird, in the best sense of the word. Deep psycho-social implications. It is beautiful and true.
It is good to see people reaction to music such as Pink Floyd I can see your reaction like l felt many moons ago. It is also good seeing how much y'all get along with each other especially the young lady. She puts so much energy to listening to music.
David Gilmour, Pink Floyd's lead guitarist and vocalist, did a concert "Live at Pompeii" in 2016 released in 2017. It's an amazing concert with all the old Floyd songs plus some Gilmour work after Floyd.
You guys need to see what Pink Floyd can do in a live show. Anything from the PULSE concerts or the old live version of Echoes in Pompeii. The Floyd light show is second to none..
I was 10 when I watched "The Wall" on VHS for the first time and continued to listen to them in adolescence. After high school, I binged on all things Pink Floyd for a few years. I'm 46 now. I played two Floyd songs (Wish You Were Here and Time) with my band at a farmers market just last night. What I'm saying is: I f**king love Pink Floyd and have loved them for most of my life, and watching you two listen to and "get them" for the first time (I've watched about five of these) brings me so much joy! I should also mention that they are my second favorite band, if I can be simple and rank things that way. My undisputed favorite band is Ween. I want to be careful in recommending a song because they are all over the place and can be an acquired taste sorta thing. To start gently, pleeease check out "It's Gonna Be Alright", "Flutes of Chi", and/or "Chocolate Town". But then I want you to see how wild it gets so check out "Spinal Meningitis", "The Stallion Part 3", "Mutilated Lips", and/or "Voodoo Lady." These dudes have been at it for over three decades and have a following that will sell out Red Rocks Amphitheater three nights in a row but you've never once heard them on corporate radio. You might've heard "Ocean Man" on Spongebob though. I love you guys. Listen to Ween.
Thanks guys! Huge fan of your channel, energy and enthusiasm... Cuts selected from the Wall are out of context by themselves... FLOYD builds a whole concept and thematic album from start to finish and pulling a single track out for reaction can leave you a little bewildered trying to grasp the thrust of their lyrics. You guys are great and your collective wisdom is often very insightful... the real entertainment begins when Lex starts riffing about the vibe she picks up...pure gold! My appreciation of her Lex'icon' can't be overstated! I've subscribed literally for her energy. It's infectious and refreshing and oh so addictive! Keep the good vibes ringing out! The days of experiencing Floud 'live' are gone.... except, you can have the next best thing. David Gilmour had THE AUSTRALIAN PINK FLOYD SHOW (TAPFS) perform at his birthday and they are THAT GOOD!! My best friend took me the first time and I went with a real 'chip' on my shoulder. Sat with my arms crossed and my lips all tight an shit.... for about 15 seconds!! The first show they performed the ENTIRE Dark Side of the Moon, to perfection, us a dozen of their other hits! They have even mocked up some of the stage elements (with an AUSSIE spin on them)! Since a Pink Floyd show won't be happening this side of Rock and Roll Heaven, it's the next best thing! I've seen their show three times since then and they've also performed the Wish You Were Here and Animals albums....and never disappoint! There's also a Brit FLOYD... but not on par with TAPFS. They're currently touring Europe, and the COVID pandemic has impacted their schedule, but they always tour the US. I've seen them 3 times in Denver and once in Phoenix... never disappoint. Check them out on the YT!... ua-cam.com/video/-bbML0x-MWI/v-deo.html
I was lucky enough to see this concert in LA many moons ago! It was the best concert to see live during the concert they literally built a wall. Just so many things happening through that concert just amazing!
i love pink floyd the wall roger waters on guitar he was a guitar legend the song hey you is bout the longing for human interaction to be heard to be seen to be felt its about the desire to be noticed out of desperation
I love your all’s reactions and I love your descriptions of the music You guys are awesome and I’m glaf your getting to experience the greatest band that’s ever lived
It was December 31, 1999. I was in my middle teen years. Y2K was going to end us all. So that night I went to a bonfire, and tried the devil's lettuce for the first time, and someone put on the Floyd. Needless to say life was forever changed. I worked the next 6 months popping popcorn, cleaning, and working projectors in a movie theater to buy a Fender Stratocaster, and study the works of David Gilmour. Life was good. Still got the strat, and several others lol.
The melody the guitar was playing in the guitar solo can be heard throughout the "The Wall" album. It is the chorus of "Another Brick in The Wall" which I believe you guys may have reacted to before so it may sound familiar!... "We don't need no education" Also, fun fact: Roger Waters was considering performing The Wall at the US/Mexico border. He also previously performed it in 1990 in Berlin after the fall of the Berlin wall.
Used to lie on my bed, after dark as a HS Senior listening to this album over and over. I'll always have a copy of it. Pink Floyd songs are so patient. No rush, no wasted notes. Everything perfect in its time.
Love watching you guys, learning and studying these songs. I'm learning along side with you guys. Pink Floyd is definitely a amazing band, with deep meaning behind the art they make. Love it.
Just one of my many favorites by Pink Floyd. I play guitar and this is one of my very favorites to play. Not as good as David Gilmore of course but I try. LOL The accoustic riff is just so haunting and ingenious
David Gilmour and Pink Floyd's sound grabs your soul pulls you close and whispers the meaning of their song in your ear!!! Their Animals album was the best at it. They make quite a few sounds with their instruments to set the mood. Animals was before synthesizers were big.
I could see all over Brad's face that he was loving the guitars this time. Like a lot. 😁 You guys just wouldn't believe how nice it is watching you listening to music that I've loved since, I was a kid. Then seeing you get the joy out of it. I don't feel like I'm expressing this the way I would like to. Lol But you appreciating the music is wonderful thing to witness and it doesn't hurt that y'all are fun, too. 😊 Keep being you!! Love ya and your reactions! 🥰
Love this song!!! It's like when you want to speak out about something and you do not bother because you feel no one else cares. If you have an issue...get it out or it will eat you up!
i always just imagined in 'comfortably numb' he is trying to get a response from someone and this song is the response from someone who can't get out of his own head

These dudes have been at it for over three decades and have a following that will sell out Red Rocks Amphitheater three nights in a row but you've never once heard them on corporate radio. You might've heard "Ocean Man" on Spongebob though. I love you guys. Listen to Ween.
guys.. THERES A MOVIE of this album. You have to watch the entire thing before think about it
Pink Floyd always doubles down on those guitar solos. Love it.

I was lucky enough to see this concert in LA many moons ago! It was the best concert to see live during the concert they literally built a wall. Just so many things happening through that concert just amazing!
i love pink floyd the wall roger waters on guitar he was a guitar legend the song hey you is bout the longing for human interaction to be heard to be seen to be felt its about the desire to be noticed out of desperation
as I get older, I like/love this song even more. I always enjoyed it, but now I "get it."
Pink Floyd is my 2nd favorite band...so many good songs by them!
"Hey You" as Lex say she waiting for Pink Floyd sound affect. But this is more raw. Then Brad for once actually really smile. I almost fell over.
A true song for our times....
"Hey You" is my absolute all-time favorite Pink Floyd song, followed at a very distant second by "Learning to Fly"
I love your all’s reactions and I love your descriptions of the music You guys are awesome and I’m glaf your getting to experience the greatest band that’s ever lived
Love your reaction when the solo hit! A great moment to witness!
If it wasn't for Lex I would never come back to this channel at all!! She is amazing how she gets it!
Such a brilliant band. Gilmore's a genius.
The melody the guitar was playing in the guitar solo can be heard throughout the "The Wall" album. It is the chorus of "Another Brick in The Wall" which I believe you guys may have reacted to before so it may sound familiar!... "We don't need no education"
Also, fun fact: Roger Waters was considering performing The Wall at the US/Mexico border. He also previously performed it in 1990 in Berlin after the fall of the Berlin wall.
The best way to fully understand the songs from The Wall is to watch Pink Floyd The Wall movie. This is such a great song.
First time I listened Pink Floyd music was THE ANIMALS album at 1978 I was seventeen yearsl old, since then Im a Pink Floyd fan.
We just caught Brad feeling Pink Floyd instead of thinking about Pink Floyd. Well done brother.
Used to lie on my bed, after dark as a HS Senior listening to this album over and over. I'll always have a copy of it. Pink Floyd songs are so patient. No rush, no wasted notes. Everything perfect in its time.
no one band member outdoes another...everything is perfectly in place, at it's given time
"The fight against Conformity" Is really spot on. The whole album The Wall is a rock opera about the band against the world, and the record industry.
One of my favorite song from Pink Floyd, but this should be listened as part of the whole album !
I could see all over Brad's face that he was loving the guitars this time. Like a lot. 😁
You guys just wouldn't believe how nice it is watching you listening to music that I've loved since, I was a kid. Then seeing you get the joy out of it. I don't feel like I'm expressing this the way I would like to. Lol
But you appreciating the music is wonderful thing to witness and it doesn't hurt that y'all are fun, too. 😊
Keep being you!!
Love ya and your reactions! 🥰
Love this song!!! It's like when you want to speak out about something and you do not bother because you feel no one else cares. If you have an issue...get it out or it will eat you up!
The way David Gilmore plays is very addicting..
That guitar absolutely sing's...
Pink Floyd songs need to be listened to within the context of their albums. They are like books with different chapters that run in sequence.
Everything Pink Floyd ever did was deep as far as I can recall.
Pink Floyd is amazing, happy that yall liked it.
i always just imagined in 'comfortably numb' he is trying to get a response from someone and this song is the response from someone who can't get out of his own head
the way Gilmour says "without a fight" is so cool...
Lex is so good at Pink Floyd. A natural.
