Yes, I have done it once a year but last few weeks. I am going to try spraying the insides of the vents.

I did same as you did but after 3 months the blower motor make noise from its bearing. Finally I took the motor out and lubricated it. Problem solved...

Thanks a bunch! I had already changed the 2 cabin filters and gotten zero improvement from an odor perspective. I did as you showed, but used orange scented Lysol and it's been great! Thanks for taking the time to make your video!

Why does your BMW have 2 cabin air filters?
They make a product called frigi fresh and it actually disolves any mold or dirt or anything that builds up inside your cars AC system but you should make sure your cabin filters are clean I've used the Lysol but professionaly when charging customer I buy the frigi fresh

Good stuff! HOW ABOUT the intakes for the recirculating mode? I just bought an e90 and the prior owner's crap perfume seems baked in… which I assume is got into the HVAC from within the car (not external intake).
I put leather wafer air freshener . They last about 2 months . I drop them in there with a knot in the string hanging on the outside so it won't fall in.

Hey man, great video! maybe you can help me out. So I’ve only had a Honda before, was my first car that i had for 10 years and i never had this problem. I bought a BMW last July and once it started heating up in Vegas this year i started noticing this smell coming out of the vents! It’s reallllllly bad. I’m going to try this trick and i want to replace the cabin filters but what would be the cause of this? I would like to avoid in the future if I’m causing it

Thank you for the tip. I will try this on my e90. My family and I cannot stand the bad dirty sock odor. Even if I have to do this few times a year I dont mind since Its so easy to remove cabin filter. I work on my e90 all the time...

As soon as I turn the a/c on, it automatically puts the system in recirculation mode. Even with the recirculation light off, it's still on recirculation, I have to turn off a/c to be able to put it off recirculation. Is this normal?

I found mud and gunk on the sides of the cowl, where there is like a vent thing that holds leaves and sticks. I think thats why it smells bad in my car
Promise • same issue I have did you get it cleaned and remove the smell yet? I tried ozone generator, vinegar, sprays and nothing helped. What have you tried?
I bounced my bmw and it doesn’t have that cover. Does it affect it?

Hey Matt Damon(right? always wanted to call u that lol), do I do it to both vents? My 2 year old still cleaned cabin filter started to smell like what u described thru the vents. Hope this method will work for me. I need to learn how to snap my fingers to move things like u did Matt Damon style :) it would've saved me lots of $$ from labor cost at the stealership for major work that I can't do. Great videos, keep them coming & interesting. Doing it the hard and correct way. Buy and change the cabin air filter and then buy/borrow an ozoneair generator.
Don’t waste your time in temporary solutions.

Hi my AC doesn’t smell but my normal cold air does. Any tips on fixing that?
Just change your cabin filter; bad smell means dirty filter full of bacteria; Lysol spray is temporary.

believe the smell comes from the ac coil so need to go deeper into the ventillation system

@@rebeccaanderson5037 you can try. local service centers use an ozone machine inside the car and let the air circulate for a couple of hours.

Clean everything in your car, shampoo whatever you can and wipe down surfaces. Once that is done, either buy or rent an Ozone generator and let it run it's course a couple - 3 times in your car with windows shut and AC running...on both open and recirculate (do not stay in the car when the ozone generator is running!!!!!) Should really get rid of a lot, if not all the smell. Good luck!
That lysol method will last only a short time. I tried many methods. The only long lasting one is actually spraying the insides of the vents all throughout and letting it dry. It's annoying to do.

Just change the cabin filter; bad smell most times is because of dirty filter; Lysol spray is short-lived and not quite healthy.

How well does your ac work? I have a 2011 335 e90 and the ac doesn't get freezing cold. It gets cold enough just for me not to break a sweat and that's it.

Garo Barsemian yea, I had the system drained , refilled, and checked for leaks. I was told that the a/c was operating as it should. I thinks it's BS so I'm planning on adding a warranty just in case my a/c goes out completely.
Garo Barsemian Update!! Today, I was able to find the service records for my car and I found out that the a/c evaporator was replaced a couple of years ago. Im guessing that mine is on it's way out again.
Mine actually smells when the A/C is off and I just have the blower going. With AC on there’s no smell

Good idea but..... you are praying moisture onto a motor and restore which will likely cause longer term issues. I suggest new panel filter and remove the blower motor to clean it properly. Good quick fix though... -__-
When I turn on the AC I almost die because it smells like dust combined with concentrated hot urine. I'll give it a go these days, hope it works.
Hi, did you try it? I have exactly same issue with urine smell on start of the AC (goes away after about 1min). much worse in hot weather. Ozoning, new cabin filter, air con bombs, and BMW service. evaporator cleaning didn't work. I have no more ideas...
I´d be a bit afraid of doing that because that spray might be easily flameable.

I took mine off today. It rains like crazy down here and I think their purpose would be better for track usage or 1/4 mile runs.
It's fine in the rain, the wall is high enough to prevent water from entering below into the bay
No, with the cowl out the water goes straight in. The filters do nothing to prevent that. It's not about getting water in the filters, it's the water getting into the engine bay easily.
So long as your dme is sealed properly, it shouldn't be an issue. All the sensors, wiring and stuff are coated and covered with the plastic tubing. Even the engine has layers of covers to get through.

Take off wedding rings while wrenching if you like to keep your ring finger attached to your hand.....the car doesn’t mind.
This is not a real problem solver if you have mold or so inside air outlet, conde ser of AC and AC unit itself.

In one week, will smell again like a wet dog. You must remove the fan and the inside cooling radiator and clean with pressured steam, until you remove all the dirt from them. Only after that, you can spray whatever you want.
U gotta spray ALOT. That little bit of spray,....will still smell bad tomarrow.
