- In this video, I use a 72 colour set of Derwents Pastel Pencils to create this thunderhead looming up over the Romney Marshes in Kent.
This is a great medium to work in and I show you some of the ways I employ this pastel
Although I have named the brand, I am in no way advertising or suggesting you use them as there are many good brands on the market. Derwent is in no way paying me to use this product, thank you

Hello :) A wonderful tutorial that inspired me to stop just watching videos and actually put my pencils to paper! It has been a good thirty years since I last drew and, as imperfect as my attempt is, I thank you for the only video that gave me the confidence to give it a go!
Thanks so much for this tutorial! It was very helpful as someone new to pastel pencils. Your drawing is lovely and reminds me of my home country.
I am so pleased that it was useful to you, and helped with some delightful memories, cheers P
3:50 Ahhaa: UART, sandpaper, excellent.
Loved this video! I have all the materials except the paper. I am now going to look for your seascapes using oils!
I've just been gifted these as a Christmas present. I've always wanted to have a go. What a beautiful landscape, gained a sub ! Absolutely love watercolours too ❤
That’s great thank you so much, I hope you enjoy your set cheers P

My pleasure 😊 glad you found it useful, cheers Paul
Loved your video. Have pastel pencils arriving today. Terry
Hi Terry enjoy they are heaps of fun, cheers P
Lovely painting. There is surprisingly little content on youtube for drawing landscapes with pastel pencils so this is great! May I ask what paper you are using. Thanks and Happy New Year!
Hi Dory glad it helped I used Uart 500 good luck
Hermoso cuadro..tengo el set de 72 lapices de Derwent , intentare pintar algo similar ...con suerte.😅😅😅
Really love your videos, and thanks for doing one on these marvelous pastels. To prevent it from smearing further, what would you suggest as a fixator?
Totally fun! Any chance you knew Terry Harrison? Was mainly watercolor but also acrylics, he reintroduced me to my first love through the books he published. An incredible teacher. Love your stuff! Im going to try this with my little set of carbothellos 😻, love the landscape techniques
So sorry for the late reply, Terry and I knew of each other, but never actually met. Nd he’s a sad loss to the art world. So glad you enjoyed the video , P
Very nice proves that I have the wrong paper. Do you ever keep the powder and put in a tin to use on larger paintings/like a pan pastel? Thank you
I am wandering i I tried the wrong medias all along or if this is a realy nice tutorial. This looks so simple, but it could turn out to be dificult... Now I want to buy some of this to try.
Amazing.🔥👏🏻. Sir which paper can I use with these derwent pastel pencils in India?? Brustro sheets? Which gsm?. I hv this set of 72set of derwent pencils. I want to use them but cant decide with paper wld be best.
Demonios, está en inglés, toca ver si le entiendo
can I give a water wash just like we can do with inktense blocks?
no not in the same way as inktense are not affected by water once dry, watercolour on the other hand is. careful layers are easily add though. cheers Paul
