This was great!!!! Hubby and I went to look at the forts at Deal and Walmer-I highly recommend people go and hve a look after watching this video-it was fab, also if people are interested in the military history of the area, then a visit to Upnor Castle is worth the little trek too xxxx
i went to darnet island in april but stupidly didn't take enough water (as i expected it to rain and so catch some).. so a 4-5 dayer turned out to be just 2 days.. brilliant place though .. the fort is a bit more dillapidated than hoo obviously but still very inetersting. thanks for the link to W.N. his 4th video is definitley worth a watch you're always coming up with great stuff and i look forward to the next ATB
Thanks mate :) 2 days is still good :) we did spend the night on Hoo but our trip to the island wasn't the smoothest and didn't end up filming because of the hard work.. bit of a tale to tell that one
What an amazing video cobber. I last visited that fort at Hoo back in 1981! when my Father was posted to 'Upnor Hard', at Lower Upnor. I used to attend 'Hundred of Hoo High School.'80-82. Great video, cheers for sharing :)
You made it look effortless. Sending lots of love your way and I can't wait for your next video. Please do not put any additional pressure on yourself. Ok? It's always the best to see you enjoying yourself and having fun. Much gratitude.
Wow man I really liked your camping videos, but although these documentary style videos are generally not my thing, this one is amazingly well done, I got so immersed that only realized at the end that I am not watching a pro documentary on BBC iPlayer and am in fact on youtube. Love the channel overall, thanks for making your videos!
Andy this is brilliant! Im lucky enough to keep my horses on MOD land which surrounds a fort. Ive been in the tunnels and its fascinating! Its like a rabbit warren lol. The MOD use it now for training their service dogs in search, sniffer detection etc. Its all very fascinating! Love all the old stuff!
That was an excellent video Andy...I've always loved a good rake around any old buildings, even better if they are of some historical value. Great stuff..cheers 👍
Really interesting fort Andy - love the docu-style walk through too! I was half expecting a tent to pop out of a rucksack at some point though hahaha! I love your visits to old historical abandoned spots. I take it you got your hands on a boat then! 😉 cheers matey, Simon.
This is one awesome video, Andy. I wasn't aware that this place even existed, but your video work brought out some fascinating shots of the architecture that I like very much. I hope that you can perhaps produce some more work like this in the future. Thanks for sharing. Take care...
That was great Andy. Loved it bro. This seemed more like a documentary on the history of Hoo Fort. Good editing and presentation. Right on, must be nice to have a drone.
Thanks buddy :) I did spend the night but didn't get that footage.. which is a long story of its own haha. I have the drone on loan from a friend... hope to get my own at some point though
Dude you could make your own TV series like Ray M., but self produced, filmed, narrated and starring Kent from Kent Survival; Good stuff. You have a gold mine of heritage to film, so cool.
Very interesting to see this. I remember when I was in the sea cadets at Chatham in the seventies and a few of us canoed out to the island with camping gear and spent a weekend there. It seems crazy to think that we were allowed to do it in a time of no communications, but we were. I still have a ceramic jug that I found on the island and it sits as an ornament in my garden.
excellent :) a time when trust was given and a little risk allowed .. builds character :) Thanks for watching, glad to take you down memory lane Richard :)
Oh my Andy that was rather different ,but must say very good indeed and different to other exploring channels .Your rather good at this and can cook up a spicy squirrel as well.Keep up the great work and look forward to many more vids .
Yet another fantastic video! Thank you. I have friends that live in Hoo and had often wondered about accessing the Fort. A great explanation and visual overview. Very well presented indeed. Looking forward to the next vid! 👍🏻
Really enjoying this Kent information man, thanks! Shame these don't seem to have had the same views as your top notch camping vids, they certainly deserve it. Keep up the good work - CJ
Very well presented historical insight to our one time sea defences must have taken some doing getting all the information and pictures much appreciated and thanks for sharing ♠️
@@KentSurvival Thanks for your reply. Although I am interested in history etc, there's a lot more too. And from a quick look at your channel it looks like you do a few things that I also do, ie Bushcraft, canoeing etc. You're also UK based (as am I) which is cool 😎
Hi mate, thank you. I wasn't able to film this trip across or camp as it was .... dramatic haha, I might tell the tale in another video as it was quite the adventure
So, you've put your inner child inside your inner toy box and released your inner documentrist (surely that's gotta be a word, surely..). Well done to you, Sire Andy KS Attenboroughborough. Where was that wild camp, again? Very nice location. Fair play. :) (Ps: I'm gonna watch it again cos I'm sure there was a brewery Easter egg in there somewhere ;)
Yes, I believe so, so many of them around here due to the location and rivers. Thanks mate.. it was a hairy one full of drama.. hence I didn't get footage of the trip and camp haha
Hi, thanks for the comment... thats interesting, though it makes me wonder why they would go to the effort of keeping naked flames away from the the munitions in the magazines then put them by a fire? sounds dangerous?
Outstanding episode! between your shot composition and narration it was BBC quality! Thank You for all your work!!
Fascinating. Thank you for filming & commentary. The UK is abysmal at preserving it's history. Well done.
Thanks again.. yeah its a shame that its left to rot but these places have a strange beauty about them
minute 3:37 I love that spot with the fireplace and archway. That's man made beauty where form and function come together, awesome!
Amazing footage of an incredible piece of history. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you very much :)
Some great shots there. Good history too. Thank you for sharing 👍👍👍

Great production and very interesting. I wouldn't mind at all seeing more videos like this from time to time.
Thank you :) I am actually planning another. I did wild camp on this one but didn't get footage as it was such a tough day
Thank you for taking me there. Interesting!

Fascinating video. I passed these whilst on the river several times and often wondered what they looked like close too. Great work!
Staying there was amazing but a shame I couldn't really film due to all the work put in haha
That was great Andy. Loved it bro. This seemed more like a documentary on the history of Hoo Fort. Good editing and presentation. Right on, must be nice to have a drone.

Thanks buddy :) was a tough trip but worth it in the end
Absolutely spectacular brickwork on those forts. Al those archways! Think of the manual labor that went into them. Thank you!
Your commentary is exceptional, Andy. Better than some travel documentaries! Stay safe!
Thanks again Dale.. I always think I sound a bit boring lol
Dude you could make your own TV series like Ray M., but self produced, filmed, narrated and starring Kent from Kent Survival; Good stuff. You have a gold mine of heritage to film, so cool.

Are these part of the Palmerston Forts project? Same sort of era, so assume they are. Great little documentary very atmospheric and well produced.

Kent Survival I can imagine it was a trek but nevertheless good stuff keep it coming.

Is the other fort accessible at all

Hi Andy, thank you.. we did actually spend the night there but that is a long story for another video haha
Can't wait to see it 👍👍👍👍

The fireplaces were to heat shot that was fired at wooden ships
Hi, thanks for the comment... thats interesting, though it makes me wonder why they would go to the effort of keeping naked flames away from the the munitions in the magazines then put them by a fire? sounds dangerous?
No they weren't, 9 inch RML fired armour piercing for firing at armoured ships.
Brilliant :)
Very interesting! :)
What about toilets? Were they provided?
