Andy I like the way that when you stayed in the church and Illustrated all of the grave sites .That was wonderful you shuld be a commentary I enjoyed the way you paused and laid it out for ever one thank you.
This is, without question, the finest video I've ever seen on UA-cam. The photography, the editing, and the narration are of professional level, and the care and compassion of presentation are absolutely wonderful. I congratulate and thank you for this wonderful documentary.
Someone once said to me the secret of making a good video is setting the mood and being able to tell a good story. mate you nailed it. that was awesome.
Andy - a beautiful piece - thought provoking and also very educational too. Very different to your bushcraft trips - would be really good to see more of this type of material
Excellent video once again. Really love these historical mini doc videos you keep throwing into the mix, would love to see more. Brilliant camera shots also!
I used to visit Nunhead Cemetery quite often in the late seventies as I lived within walking distance of it. It was a marvelously atmospheric place like something out of a Gothic horror story. All completely overgrown apart from a small number of war graves that were maintained by the War Graves Commission, I assume. Seeing your film has brought back some great memories, thank you.
Great video Andy, I used to live just a 3 minuite walk from the Cemetery. It was a fantastic place for a peace and tranquility in sunny Peckham/Nunhead. Great to see that it's being looked after. Thank you.
Thanks Andy, that was really interesting - what an amazing place! I do love an old cemetery. I didn’t realise that is what IHS stood for, for years I thought it meant ‘In his service’ cheers mate!
Really well presented, lad! Love the narration, respectfully done! I always enjoy your tours of the English countryside and city. Personally, I like to walk through old cemeteries, reading about the inhabitants on their final memorial. As always, stay safe.
@@KentSurvival Here in Milwaukee, and in the surrounding countryside, I have found several gravestones of Revolutionary War veterans, which is ancient for this country!
What a wonderful, informative but also sad at the same time Andy. I appreciate how much time, effort and research you have put into this video. Such a shame about the cemetery. Ive spent a lot of time around graveyards, especially over in France and Belguim (world war 1 and 2 ) they can tell you so much about whats gone on. Thanks for sharing 😊
Interesting and informative video Andy ..me and our lass visit many cemeteries on our travels and find the ones natures reclaiming a work of natural art ...atb ..steve
As always lovely work...you set a high standard. Enjoyed the info and the beautiful video. Any chance you can do a series on the other old cemeteries of London? And after London, Paris? You do such a lovely job. Thanks,
Wow Andy this is incredible. I love your informative history videos. Isn't it a shame that some people have the need to vandalize something that should be respected and cherished. Thank you for sharing this amazing treasure.
Amazing job Andy, really enjoyed that. I was a keen amateur historian in the military sense when posted in London. Might i recommend, Brompton Cemetery, check out Col. William Hope VC (Crimea) Lt Col Hugh Montgomery RMC, KIA by the IRA in the Bloody Sunday Irish War of Independence and happens to be cousin to Field Marshall Montgomery (Old Man Monty himself! lol) and last but defo not least, Field Marshal John Fox Burgoyne and his son, Hugh Burgoyne RN - Victoria Cross recipient. I think you will enjoy the history old boy. Cheers and very well done. ATB Moose
Thanks for the info Moose.. its already on the list, I might have to do all 7 now, I saved military burials for another vid so this one wasn't too long.
Great video! There is something profound about the cemetery and graves being overgrown with vines and trees....weathered, algae covered headstones. Not only is life short but traces of humanity can vanish as quickly as it appeared.
Yes it does have a nice charm about it. There’s a graveyard near me that’s been forgotten about but nowhere near the scale of this. Sandwiched between a block of flats and a nursery. Dating back to the 1800s. It’s so over grown there’s no way you can get it
Absolutely beautiful video and very well and respectfully done. Great job, my friend! The lily is a popular funeral flower, not just because of their beauty, but because they have long been considered as symbols of the Resurrection of our Lord and, through His grace, of all of us who believe on His holy Name. Please keep the awesome videos coming and God bless you, my friend!
Hi Andy. This brings back some memories for me. My Gran and Grandpop used to live in the flats opposite the Honour-Oak Cemetery and they would often walk me past the old Nunhead Cemetery when I used to stay with them in the school holidays in the seventies/early eighties, and also up onto One Tree Hill, to see the famous Oak tree and the views out to the city. Many fond memories indeed, I’ll have to get back down that way some time soon and rekindle the memories.
Wow that was wonderful and very informative, i love old churches, it's a bit sad to think all those people that were one as alive and vibrant as us all are now just forgotten in that abandoned place
Thank you for a fine video on a difficult subject. It is hard to see such a fine set of monuments left, more or less, to the ravages of time. Maintaining footpaths cannot be enough of a memorial.
Awesome, awesome, super awesome!!! Im in the U.S. and we have the same problem over here. Let me just put this out there, I think its disgusting how society treats its old cemeteries. I have rescued abandoned cemeteries before, I have dug out, cleaned, and photographed too many headstones that were being overgrown by nature and many even swallowed up by earth. We, society, need to realize we will all soon be where they are, is this how you want to be treated when you are gone? All cemeteries should be deemed sacred ground and be respected and maintained by the local society, no ands, ifs, or buts about it. I applaud you for bringing light to this beautiful and somewhat forgotten cemetery. The info on what certain signs or objects meant was enlightening, some I knew, but most were new to me, thank you for that schooling. As the vid was wrapping up I was telling myself I wanted to message you like this, then you had to show that headstone of a person with Whitaker, so now I must add the last big cemetery recording I did was completely buried under ground, I had to prod the ground with a rod to locate the headstones so I could dig them out of ground and bring back to the surface. This was in the middle of farmland in Ohio in the U.S., it was the Whitacre farm cemetery, and their name was originally spelled Whitaker.
Thank you very much.. and good work :) they have made great efforts here on cataloguing the burials for relatives which is good.. I guess it will always be a work in progress of sorts.
Thank you for the respectful and well researched tour of the cemetery. Personally, while I respect the deceased it seems efforts to improve the cemetery would be better spent on the needy currently. After their needs of hunger and homelessness are taken care of, the cemeteries can be next.
Kent Survival you would love some of the ones where I live in Kentucky. One is at the very end of a street here in town. I always found it very creepy. The funny thing is there was a sign at the beginning of the road that said “Dead End”.
The cemeteries in London are amazing I grew up close to Highgate and had many a spooky night in there during the 70s . Before it's renovation bloody scary . Nice video during the day cemeteries are wonderful places often had lunch in Brompton cemetery .
My grandmother and great grandmother are buried in one grave in Nunhead cemetary. I never knew either of them and would love to see their grave. A lovely video full of atmosphere.
Good to see you up my neck of the woods Andy. Great informative video mate. People come from all over the place to have a gander of Nunhead Cemetery as you say it's steeped in history. Another spooky place to check out up my way is Saint Nicholas Church, Address: Deptford Green, London SE8 3DQ. Lots of famous people are buried there. Look out for the gargoyles on the entrance, they are like something from a Hammer Horror Film! ☠ Thanks for sharing Andy. Take care mate. Steve. 👍👍
Lovely.
You are a natural story-teller and narrator. This is one of my favorite videos from you! Thank you for the story and the history.
Thank you very much indeed, glad you enjoyed it :)
This is so good, I had to watch it twice. Thanks again for your excellent work Andy.
awe, thank you very much :)
Andy I like the way that when you stayed in the church and Illustrated all of the grave sites .That was wonderful you shuld be a commentary I enjoyed the way you paused and laid it out for ever one thank you.
Brilliant video. My family had close links with the cemetery, so it’s always lovely to see it.
It feels like I'm watching a proper documentary.. really good job as always Andy! Thanks for sharing..

Thank you for saying so Jason :) much appreciated
Thank you for this beautiful video. Very well done. You have honored those not only resting at nunhead, but also their families.

Andy, that was so very cool. Lovely videography, sensitively shot and narrated. You have hidden depths...😮
Haha thanks mate :) love this place and was happy to make a video on it
Andy you have the voice for great narration. Please do more of this. I really enjoyed hearing the story read as I watch.

You can really tell at one point this was a magnificent place. Thank you for showing us.
indeed.. and still has its own charm :) Thank you
That was a lovely little video. Love the explanations of symbols. Was told most of them on one visit to Highgate.
Thanks Andy, that was really interesting - what an amazing place! I do love an old cemetery. I didn’t realise that is what IHS stood for, for years I thought it meant ‘In his service’ cheers mate!
Cheers mate.. I guess it could be like AD and BC where its adopted a second English meaning
A beautiful and moving video Andy. Well done.
Thanks Steven :) Much appreciated mate
Love your historical videos. Always learn a lot.
Thank you for watching John
Well done Andy. Thank you.

That was a very deep, emotional video. I absolutely love walking through old cemeteries. It's a shame Nunhead was left behind.
A quietly interesting video. Really enjoyed. Cheers Andy. Look forward to the next one 👍
Thank you very much Matt :)
