Just an update to the video.. Brian has corrected me and Burgan Unk is not a seedling.

In talking to Brian about this he does not think this is a seedling tree but was planted by someone there. The home is 9 years old and most seedling trees I find are in older places where the landscape isn't as well maintained (fig seedlings are just another weed! LOL)

Figaholics for sure another weed is correct, I found a fig tree on the side of a freeway. With fruit on it already.

Cuttings were $35 now after this will be $350. If your not from California don’t expect the results to be the same like Ross said.

hype building. These cuttings sold for under $20 last winter, no way are they worth more now just because they are hyping it up.

Im growing about 30 different varieties of figs in the Philippines. All trees are in ground. They are night and day from growing them in NY. Fig trees that have never produced in NY are doing it here. My most productive tree is a Kadota. It is sweeter than any fig I have ever produced in NY. I have it in ground for about almost 2 years. The tree is over 10ft tall. For the last year its has been producing nonstop. The figs are produced in clusters and I have less foliage than my trees in NY. There are more figs than leaves on all my trees. I am not sure if that has to do with me not feeding them any chemical fertilizer. Every day it has aleast 10 ripe figs. Imagine a tree less than 3 years loaded with 300 figs plus not being feed any fertilizer. I also never had any split figs. It rains alot here also. When it rains on my farm it gets really muddy.

Another unknown consideration for Brian and a few others in CA who search for these great seedlings is the countless...probably hundreds of of "worthless" seedlings that they run across every year that takes time and patience to monitor, which is usually YEARS to find out if it's even an edible, much less good one...or much more so a great one! These don't just pop up in the cracks of the driveway every year. It takes a passion that I appreciate. Looking forward to trying this one myself!

Figaholics is definitely helping to preserve and disperse the best varieties!

That sounds promising. Since it is a new seedling, I assume we do not know if it is parthenocarpic. I’d be happy to trail a cutting down here in NC to see if it is common or not.

EXCITING A NEW FIG. i will have fun watching this one over the next few years. if anyone has the space why not plant some of these seeds out in the cali area. dont let nature do everything, help it along. there are few areas lucky enough to get viable seed. i wish i was in an area like that. the fig community is getting larger every day. im glad ross and a few others have took it upon themselves to preserve some genetics. i hope to see more group projects for the community develop in the future.

Man, I'll have to visit your friend in Fresno next time I go back home (from the central valley). It's funny, I remember eating figs as a kid, and not liking them. My mom's neighbor has a beautiful tree, that now as an adult I look forward to eating the figs from. It is a dark, wonderful, fig. Again, in the central valley...we have the wasp. I don't know if her variety needs it, but I do recall the small amount of seeds being crunchy. Telltale sign. Anyway, enjoy and I hope your cuttings work out!
