    Nice video thanks,
    But 1 tip here as long as you have a vertical oil filter, fill the filter with new oil before your screw it on the engine, will prevent the dry first crank.

    Great Job on Video - Easy to watch and undersatnd. The 17MM socket size saved me trying to find a fit. I have a 2002 Odyssey since 2001. Just bought a used 2004 and getting back to doing my own maintanance. Thank you.

    Great instructional steps! Good lighting and voiceover. Great idea to use the brake clean if you've got a leak - for discovery. You can watch my '04 Odyssey oil change video I just posted too. I love that oil filter wrench too!

      Great video but any time the oil filters oriented in the down position I always fill it with as much oil as I can get it in it and a red Solo cup over the filter on the way out helps catch all that mess

    I used Fram ultra filters as well.
    Personally prefer punching through the filter with a screw driver to remove the filter. No need to take the wheel off. Just turn the wheels to the far right is enough to reach the filter.

    (for tightening the oil filter) Once gasket touching, turn 3/4 turn past, and that's it.... (Takes the guess work out of it....)

    99-05 should use 5w-20. 0w-20 is okay too. Never anything else! 10w-30 is way too thick at start up for the 3.5, especially in cold weather! Bad bad bad....

      Finally someone says it!
      Listen, this is an excellent video. Great job on all accounts. My only is is, as a former professional technician of 9 years I can tell you NEVER put ANYTHING other than the recommended viscosity in any engine, especially a 5w20 and NEVER overfill your system. 5 quarts in a 4.6... Especially with higher miles and the wrong viscosity... Well that's why you're leaking. To much pressure blowing the gaskets causing leaks.
      Again. Excellent video. Really well done. Not trying to be a jerk. It's your car. But don't tell others it's ok to use the wrong amount and the wrong type. Any spec can be found on Google instantly including proper torque pressure for your drain plug with a torque bar, which can prevent striping the drain pan threads.
      Overall excellent work my friend and sorry you had poor service by past techs. Cleanliness is always a basic service.

    The honda book calls for 4.6 quarts.. does it matter being you put 5 quarts? Also what kind of oil filter does it need?

    • @barinkulkarni3851
      @barinkulkarni3851 4 роки тому +1

      If owners manual says 4.6 then fill that much and check oil dip stick with vehicle on leveled surface. If it shows max fill then don't pour more. Regarding oil filter, there are do many brands. Wix, Napa, Fram, Stp, Mobil1, Honda OEM and many more. You have a wide choice. If you are using a full synthetic oil, then go with a good quality filter.

    • @oldmanriver9527
      @oldmanriver9527 4 роки тому

      the oil filter takes/holds .4 quarts so pouring in 5 quarts is perfect.

      The owners manual says 4.6 qts WITH the oil filter.. 4.2 qts WITHOUT the oil filter. Page 386 2003 owner's manual.
      But, I also put in all 5qts and it is about 1/8 -3/16" above the full mark. No problems in over 80k miles. Never have to add any between my 5-7k miles changes. I also use the Fram Ultra Synthetic oil filter (one of the highest rated oil filters available). Yes, I also change the oil filter with every oil change. Necessary? Doubt it, but I sleep better. :)

    • @moetoescooter5499
      @moetoescooter5499  6 років тому +2

      This particular van has over 250,000 miles on it. So it is recommended to step up the oil viscosity to compensate for wear.

    • @BackTrackBug
      @BackTrackBug 3 роки тому +3

      @@moetoescooter5499 But the 5w-20 is made to circulate fast at start up. You are actually hurting the older engine. It's NOT recommended to step up viscosity! Thats false man, dont tell people that. Most of engine damage occurs during start up, the 3.5 needs a fast circulating oil. Hence the 5w-20.

    When I finished changing my oil. I noticed that I left the washer on top of my recycle oil bin. I checked for any leaks from oil pan but I didn’t see no leaks. I should be ok right? I put the washer aside for next oil change. Should it be ok without the washer???

      Brake Kleen by CRC. Any brand brake cleaner would work. You could use carb cleaner as well. It’s just a solvent.
