He's an old man now but still a legend.
Pretty much like me, well except for the legend bit.
ExarKenneth71 he beat inoperable cancer a few years back, good souls are rewarded. True great person, met him way back in Santa Cruz playing for bud and beers.
I saw the concert seven or eight years ago Neil toured with Kenny Chesney. Neil came on stage and blew the fucking roof off the joint.
lewisner lol
He turned 75 on Nov. 12th 2020
This man is playing a guitar and a harmonica and singing at the same time ! I can't walk and chew gum at the same time lol
I struggle to blink and breathe at the same time lol
Best comments xx hilarious xx
He doesn’t even need an instrument. His voice is amazing. They all are
@Shirley Mongold , Umm, at which part did he *sing & play harmonica* AT THE SAME TIME? We didn't know he was a ventriloquist.
@@jessehammer4440
Shut up, please.
Neil Young, one of the most loveliest humans to ever grace this planet.
“Rockin in the Free World”
He’s 74 now and is going on tour in 2020. Go see him.
Aged well
Neil Young is such a great singer and song writer that he is actually inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame 3 times!!
Another 70's song. I was a teenager through the 70's and the music from that era is the tapestry of my life. We were the lucky generation.
A song that defined an era of my life, I was lucky I found my heart of gold and we’ve now been married for 25 years. Colin you are my heart of gold .
One of my fav’s is “Harvest Moon”. Would love to hear your reaction to that one!
Patty Tyndall check out Cover of that by “foxes and fossils” 😀
👍harvest moon
A great tune; thank you for reminding me.
Neil young is one of my most favorite artists of all time. Please listen to more of his songs, they are all fabulous!
Don't Let It Bring You Down from this same show hits me hard every time.
Definitely this! It's an amazing song, and that's one of the best performances of it on UA-cam.
Kevin Burgess It’s only castles burning.....
That's a damn good tune! Excellent suggestion!
I couldn’t click to watch this fast enough! Thank you for reacting to my favorite Neil Young song!
Told ya! That man IS gold! Go deeper... hear The needle and the damage done! 😍😍
Heart of Gold and the man behind the heart is still Golden. Love Niel Young♥️ Loved your reaction. What a Genuine Heart for a tune that has never been thought of or ever listened to, till now. Awesome!!!
"Down By The River"
Yes! The live version with CSNY at Big Sur
you should listen to 'the needle and the damage done', its from the same album and is a really great song about his bandmate's struggle with heroin
Honestly, the whole Harvest album.
The Pretenders also did a cover of that song and it's awesome.
Definitely “the needle and the damage done”.
Songs like this are why the 70s are by and large my favorite decade of music, despite having missed them by over a decade.
While I don't have anymore Neil Young to recommend, I can recommend another artist who's similar (both are considered folk/folk rock): Gordon Lightfoot. His song If You Could Read My Mind is possibly my all time favorite song, but The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald and Sundown also come highly recommended.
Yes! Gordon Lightfoot!
Too bad you dodn't get the chance to grow up on 70s music, that was an amazing time in music... Fleetwood Mac, Heart, Led Zeppelin... so many great ballads, Jim Croce, Cat Stevens...
@@dianamgallagher I did grow up on it, really. It was the main music my parents listened to, and I didn't listen to the radio much unless it was playing wherever I happened to be. I might have been born in 91, but my knowledge of 70s music exceeds my knowledge of 90s music
Mike S The same with my girls(both in their early 20’s). They also grew up with the stuff myself and their father listened to. Plus their dad was in a band (still is I think) so they had a lot of great( in my opinion) music they were exposed to. I used to play a game in the car where I would test to see if they could tell which Beatle was singing Hahaha Anyway, happy to hear your parents did the same 🎧
My childhood in Southern Ireland at the beach with my dad ❤️ listening to Neil young and James Taylor and the eagles
Truly amazing. His voice is so clear, his lyrics are engaging, and his musicianship is on point. Soooo many great songs.
Wait til you get to his electric stuff - he's one of the grandfathers of the grunge movement
Neil Young is one of the all time greats. Heart Of Gold is my favorite song of his. I think it is his biggest hit. He is a very talented artist. Your reaction is like you are surprised he is that good. That's cool.
My my hey hey out of the blue and hey hey my my into the black and like a hurricane are some more good Neil young songs , love your work
You Sir are correct! Into the Black should be the very next song for the entry level listener of Neil Young.
You're right: Cinnamon Girl is my favorite of his - takes you on a journey.
The reason for all the harmonicas is that each is in a different key. You can't change keys on a harmonica the way you can with most instruments, so many harmonica players use different ones for different songs.
This man is still performing, so you might get the opportunity to see him. Some other great songs to react to would be Cortez the Killer, Cowgirl in the Sand, Down by the River, Hey Hey My My, The Needle and the Damage Done, and many others.
Love Neil; such a pure soul. He was SO young here! Thanks for doing this! You should look more into Neil Young, and Buffalo Springfleld (he was also in this band) and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young.
If you get a chance to go to a Neil Young concert, don’t miss it. He may be old but he still has that beautiful voice and puts on one hell of a show!!! ❤️🎵
Great song. Talented guy. Writer. Musician. Vocal. Performer.
Now I know how little kids feel when they watch a video of someone unwrapping a new toy. So much of the music you listen to is familiar from back in my day yet seeing your enthusiasm causes me to re-remember, re-listen. You remind us that this is truly great music. I admire your open mindedness. Enjoy!
Neil is other worldly. Thank you. This video is the best . This song was new in this video. Now a major major hit. Love live love Neil so much.
Love Neil Young! Takes alot of talent ta okay to instruments at once. Bob Dylan as well
I can't appreciate Dylan...I have always called him #MrMumbles. Give me Arlo Guthrie any day!
Let me thank you again, J, for reuniting me with the songs of my youth. Your respect for and enjoyment of these great, timeless songs are a joy to watch. I look forward to many more in the coming days. You totally "get" these songs. Neil Young was a rock legend back in the day, and this song was at the top of his impressive body of work.
The depth of talent is incredible. The words written, that voice and the amazing musical talent. Its just not like that today
Im taking a guess on this, I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. This is after The Buffalo Springfield Band, he went solo. Neil eventually has a big band. Cinnamon Girl, OHIO, Rockin in the Free World which is a killer tune are my favs. He was also with Crosby, Steele, Nash and Young also. Neil has a vast catalog.
Yes I think so.
@ShariSez1 yes thanks couldn't think of it when i was typing earlier....been a few years lol
I love that you are so into Neil Young. What a treat to see his first performance of an iconic song and he just learned the harmonica. Amazing.
Can't wait till you hear him plugged in, you're in for a shock lol
When I first wanted to play guitar I tried to learn Neil and his music sounds simple but just try to play it, he had little tricks and difficult notes on the guitar. And try playing the harmonica at the same time, it is very trickyy. He is a true legend. Once you learn it and you think you have it down then record your self and it is just not as tite as the original. The man is a genious, i am not or I would have spelt that rite.
Such a tender voice. Wonderful song. Keep on your journey young man.
One of the best. I am paraphrasing but a comment I saw on this song's video says, "Try writing a song people will listen to. Then perform it live. Add in playing guitar and harmonica. Telling jokes as you prepare to amaze your audience." This will give you a hint about the talent of this incredible man. Thanks for sharing your reaction and giving me a reason to love this song even more. Peace.
What a amazing guy he is I’m glad you got introduced to him. I’ve been enjoying Neil for years and always will be
Neil was part of Farm Aid with Willie Nelson and John Mellencamp. They raised Millions for farmers in the USA. He was in several bands. Buffalo Springfield, Crosby,Stills,Nash and Young. Great singer/songwriter.
I've been to see him live in Liverpool England only a few years ago and he was as amazing recently as he's always been. Keep on rocking in the free world Neil x
Give a listen to Neil with crazy horse on the live version of "Hurricane"!!
Down by the River and Cowgirl in the Sand are must listens. Also Hey Hey My My and Cortez the Killer
My faves.
I love him with Crosby Stills and Nash and Young
When he sings and plays, I can't NOT listen!!! Soooo good! BTW, the bands/groups he was in are all great, too!
He used to do college campuses during this period! I saw him in San Diego and these performances were good enough to be recorded and sold AS IS!
Neil Young is great!
For more songs from him I can recommend Southern Man & Like A Hurricane. Two of my favorites.
Loved him when he with crazy horse, stills, nash&young, (high school), his branching out in his solo career (college) and still love his music on UA-cam vids! Cinnamon Girl still reminds me of my 1st girlfriend, Carmen (RIP ♡).
I go to every Neil young concert I can get to. Best performer still.
what a beautiful, guitar sound, voice, words and that harmonica. Yes the best one man show
To me, one of the most extraordinary things about Neil is that his voice is so intimate and so raw that it always sounds like he is singing right there with you and to you. Even when his pitch might be off or whatever - it doesn’t make one effin’ bit of difference because he’s right there with you in your ear and your heart and your mind.
I just posted a cover of this song on my channel. I grew up listening to Neil Young and Bob Dylan and it's probably the reason I play harmonica guitar today. He's an absolute Legend. Thanks for the cool video! ✌
Check out "Old Man" by Neil Young next.
Just posted that a few days ago
@@JayveeTV awesome. I'll go check it out. I'm a new sub. Still trying to catch up. Keep up the good work.
Hey listen to some Jim Croce
@@JayveeTV omg thank you!
Request: Neil Young and The Band doing Helpless. Not only does this live version feature The Band, another great band worth discovering but it includes another Canadian the incomparable Joni Mitchell singing backing vocals. Ignore the white powder under his nose, I'm told they had donuts backstage.
Neil used to just show up at a restaurant and bar on Skyline Blvd. in Ca. And perform. I was in a car accident up there and he and his group picked me up and drove me home.
Your response melts my heart…it’s a beautiful performance ❤
This and "Cinnamon girl" are my favs by him
Guitar and harmonica trades of Bob Dylan, check out the 30th anniversary concert with legends of rock and country, playing the music of Dylan
Check it out: performances by, John Mellencamp, Stevie Wonder, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, and Dylan himself, all playing his songs
So happy you did this one, it is a particular favorite. Although, Cinnamon Girl pretty damn good too.
New subscriber- what a great reaction! Neil Young is one of the very best. I think the other comments have his other notable songs covered, but you might also like James Taylor. "Sweet Baby James" is my favorite, but "Fire and Rain" and "Carolina in my Mind" are also big hits of his. 😁
Neil runs the gamut from folk to hard rock to rockabilly. I love it all! And he's a fellow Canadian...Long live Neil. He also has a band Crazy Horse. Check out videos with them playing as well.
Thanks jay , this is a real treat for me and i am so glad for you also. I saw him and his band CSNAnd. Y and they are fantastic ! One of my faves ! 😍😍
Neil Young did a song in 1992 called HARVEST MOON (Feels So Much Like a 70's Song}
SIR! As a Canadian I must encourage to explore the work of Joni Mitchell as well. Her response to Neils Candy Mountain, which is "The CIrcle Game". The two of them inadvertently influenced popular music to a degree that cannot be measured. Joni Mitchell wrote "Woodstock" and she didn't even attend. Neil Young worked with Rick James and Crosby Stills and Nash and several seminal pop groups. Joni and Neil are MAJOR! Thank you again for all your beautiful reactions.
Harvest Moon, my favourite song of Neil Young
Powderfinger is a great Neil Young song you might enjoy. Powerful.
Someone else who fell into the singer/songwriter/guitarist storyteller genre that I think you would really appreciate is Jim Croce. Unfortunately, he died way too soon, but he left us some amazing songs such as "Operator" "New York's Not My Home", "Time In A Bottle", and "You Don't Mess Around With Jim" (which was hilariously sung by the Jim Hopper character in season 3 of the Stranger Things TV show). There are many others as well, but I often wonder just how many more there would be if he had been able to stay at least a little while longer and continue writing and performing. I would love for you to check him out. :)
Jim Croce wrote some of the most beautiful heart felt lyrics, so my vote is also for you to react to him.
A legendary songwriter.
This is my fav Neil Young song!
this was a big number 1 song in 1972. he is still going strong, I saw him a few years ago at Madison Square Garden. After The Gold Rush is a great song!!
You might want to try Ohio by Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young that is my favorite song that involved Neil Young.
I've been searching for a heart of gold and you, Jayvee, have a heart of gold. Ain't no hiding it, it always shines through.
Playing both instruments at the same time! 😳 Wow, what a great performance. I never REALLY listened to or appreciated this song before. Thank you so much for sharing this performance and your reaction. 🙂
Neil’s voice always gives me goose bumps!
Neil Young - what a talent, what a legend.
Love “rocking in the free world” love the man and his music!
I also requested this for you to hear. I am so glad you enjoyed it!
He’s a great electric guitar player, as well. He played crazy jams, especially when he was with Crosby, Still, Nash and Young. Down By The River, Southern Man, etc. But these acoustics made me fall in love with him. Gotta love the 70s!
I saw him with crazy horse (patti smith opened) in an outdoor venue along the Columbia River Gorge.
Simply Amazing. So glad we went.
Neil Young can rock with the best of them. He's a fantastic guitar player. Check out Neil Young & Crazy Horse "Hurricane" - Live 1986.
I loved neil youn's country in teenage now I love his hard rock
he always surprise me
Neil Young was a singer in a few bands over the years...He was for a time, part of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young...better known as CSN&Y. They have some good songs too.
Great song. This song is probably all of 50 years old but a true classic from a living legend.
Pure class...performance and the reaction
Ya gotta start going through his whole catalog; from Buffalo Springfield, to CSN&Y (Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young) to his solo stuff...Very few can touch this guys's work...His writing, his unique guitar playing, and singing..The guy's a bonafide legend...You're just scratching the surface...Enjoy the ride!..I hope people will start going through Stephen Stills stuff, as well..A fantastic video of his solo live version of "Treetop Flyer" is a MUST see!..His acoustic guitar work is phenomenal!
Only Love Can Break Your Heart. Beautiful.
neils most beautiful song, and he has many
“A Horse with no Name.” ~ Neil Young.
That song is by "America."
When you have talent and can write beautiful songs you don't need anything else
One of his bigger hits, though it was played to death on the radio. Nice to hear it again.
Wait until you hear Hurricane, the other side of Neil!! The live version is killer!
Several songs from that session are on UA-cam but he is 70+ now. Always raw. So cool all the time.
And writes his own songs! Amazing lyrics 🎶
I remember listening to him for years in my late teens for hours and hours in the dark. Many of his songs made me cry & still do today. 💕 A fellow Canadian. 🇨🇦
Hello Jay. these songs when he is playing alone on stage is from a performance "Neil Young Live at the BBC 1971. The whole video on UA-cam and it is about 30 minutes in length. Pease.
Haven't listened to this in a while. Makes me want to cry, especially considering the times we are living in right now (Covid-19). This music takes me back to earlier years when things weren't so frightening.
Classically excellent song ❤️
This is one of my all time favorite songs.
Wow, could listen to him all day long...
One of the 5 best songs ever written, great reaction
Well he's still kickin'--maybe you'll get a chance to see him yet. Seems so underrated. Love Neil.
