Interesting fact about the lyrics. The one part that says, "I shouted out who killed the Kennedy's..." was first written to say, "I shouted out, who killed John Kennedy..." but during the production of the song, Robert Kennedy was assassinated, so they changed it. It was a heavy lyric to hear when it first came out, since Robert Kennedy's death was so recent.

It was a toga hot tub party.

It was late and the band had shut down, but the lead was sitting by the hot tub with his guitar.

One of the tightest, most in-the-pocket guitar breaks ever! An excellent song with unforgiving lyrics!
I think they were playing it at Altamont when that guy was stabbed to death in front of the stage (and cameras). I think this shook the Stones some. They didn’t play it for a while. N when they did they had stopped trying to channel some deviltry into it as much.

One of my BFs in college did an excellent Jagger impersonation and entered in this lip sync/air guitar contest at the local bar we all hung out at. He drug me out in the middle of the dance floor and put me on a stool and "performed" "Beast of Burden" to me and everyone. LOL I was so embarrassed but it was so funny and he won! You should see the Altamont Festival. This is done live. Grace Slick had just done her set she and her band went away from the concert in a helicopter. She looked down on the festival goers and said that it looked like someone was being killed. In fact, there was someone being killed. This live version from 1970 marked the end of the era of "peace and love - the 60's. Some say that you can see the killing on the film. Bigger part was that Jagger was supposedly a witness from the stage. He denies to this day that he saw anything. IN some videos they stop and frame by frame go through this part

This song both played into and cemented the Stones' image as the dark side of the light/dark divide in music in the 60's. The Beatles were the light side, full of whimsy and charm, while the Stones were dark, violent, and "devilish". They played up their sexuality and willingness to experiment with darkness. "Gimme Shelter" was another song that went into that darkness, and then Altamont happened, the 60's crashed and burned, and the dream was over.

@@allisonyoung4007 I doubt that an entire week ever goes by that I don't listen to this song. I'm not going to explain myself very well here, but I'll try...there's something magic about the way Ron Wood and Keith Richards wind their guitar lines around each other. You can just feel them swirling around each other and becoming something beautiful, soulful and amazing.

I came to this later myself, as the closing song to Interview with a Vampire, being too young to appreciate it '68 when it came out.
I came to other Stones songs through their covers: Beast of Burden by Bette Midler and Wild Horses by Susan Boyle.
It was like discovering Gangsta's Paradise was originally Pastime Paradise Stevie Wonder.

I love the way KR plays lead in this one. We all know what he can do, but he was extremely restrained on this track because that's what it called for. Your part doesn't have to be eternal to be immortal.

A good Stones songs that ramps up is 'You Can't Always Get What You Want,' the album version.

Then "Get Off My Cloud", "Under My Thumb", "Mother's Little Helper", "Jumpin' Jack Flash", "You Can't Always Get What You Want", "Brown Sugar", "Tumbling Dice", "It's Only Rock 'n Roll (but I like it)", "Star, Star", "Undercover (of the night)", "Start Me Up"... and then you won't be able to stop listening to them. Have fun! Enjoy the trip.
