Years keep passing by ...but every time you watch this you feel something ... something strong ,sweet , nostalgic ,sadness ,romance ...but you feel something that's enough of beauty that this scene carry !
After knowing the ending for these two, I can't help but rewatch this as a ghostly memory. It gives me the end of Titanic scene vibes. Like this moment got frozen in time and she'll go back to it once she's dead after a long life with someone else.
The way Dan delivered his lines: "Oh God, Mary, I am so so sorry. Do you know how sorry I am?" You can feel the depth of Mathew's feelings. You feel the longingness but they just couldn't be together. 😟🥺😭 You also cannot beat Lavinia's love and kindness, after what she saw. After which she tried to release Mathew from her even if she loves him very much. ☹️
Sob! It was really hard, actually...but the show was more than just Matthew and Mary... even if I've spent the last three seasons being angry at Mary for wasting so much time with poor Matthew desperately in love with her... give it a try, if you can! You won't regret!
Valentina Lanza after season 3 it became sloppy and they wrecked the work they (*cough* matthew) had done with mary's character. Don't bother with the rest

This scene demonstrated how Matthew is the perfect man. His heart is with Mary and he’s drawn to her, yet he’s willing to put that aside to fulfill his promise to Lavinia
I watched this 10 years ago and every rewatch enforced my adoration of Mary and Matthew...too heavenly and cannot be of this world..... no wonder Matthew was taken away 50 years before his time.....!
The writers and actors did a very good job by making sure Lavinia and Mary got on. More specifically that Mary didn't really show jealousy over Lavinia and liked her very much, and did nothing to try and sabotage their relationship. Otherwise there is no way that the audience would have accepted Mathew and Mary as an eventual couple again after Lavinia's passing.

My best scene ever is when he proposed with the snow swirling and then he picked her up and and they went round and round in happiness and the camera zoomed out and you could see Matthew carrying Mary round and round with Downton in the background. Downton belonged to Matthew Crawley he was the most perfect heir ever for the place, I’ll never forget those scenes in the first or second season when they play that music while he’s slowing falling in love with Downton after learning of his inheritance. He was the ultimate master and heir of Downton to me. No one could be as great. I can’t believe they didn’t show Robert’s reaction after he died or the rest of them’s, he loved him like his son and heir. So many beautiful moments lost, how could Dan have left it breaks my heart Dan. You ruined one of the greatest shows of our lives with your decision. :’(
I remember watching this movie in my 1st year of college. I saw his ads when I was in school, but only as an adult I was able to understand the whole point of this wonderful series.

For me his death doesn’t count anymore ever since I came to know it was Dan’s decision to not return but that the showrunners would have kept him on obviously. So that kind of calmed me down and released me.
I really wish to dance on this song like Mathews with my love and in the same setting. But the problem is that I haven't found that person yet. So....i look for the silver lining...

Matthew is an asshole because he didn't respect his soon to be wife. He actually carry most of that guilt. The fact that these two end up using her money to save Downton is disgusting to me. The think they are worthy of their titles and realstate but they owe it to Lavinia to save their asses. I am glad Matthew died because that love was taunted. It was karma .. because you should never do what they did. I mean unless your morals see a grey area and you think your needs/desires justify your actions .. Mary saw that .. Matthew less which is why he felt guilty for awhile and Mary even had to fight him over it.
Of course the flop was Mary's fault and her dramatic family. My goodness, if Lavinia didn't die, these two should have still ended up together because wow, if he was still thinking about Mary this way after everything, Lavinia couldn't compete with that
