As a 2020 Ryker Rally Owner with over 24,000 smyles I think you should take one for a ride. Spider is a LazyBoy, Ryker is a Wooden Rockin Horse. And as far as being slow, they are putting turbos on these things. And I have driven this baby from Florida to Richmond VA and then down the Blue Ridge Parkway to Linville NC. Over 1700 miles total in 5 days. They are like 4 wheelers but on the highway.

In have a Rally and it's great. I've ridden 2100 miles on it so far and had zero issues. It's comfortable on the highway and on back roads. I'm averaging 35 mpg on 87 octane. I love the stability of three wheels. Never worry about marbles, high winds, grooved pavement etc. I definitely want to upgrade to those new gold wheels, though. 🤩

Love all your vids. Most of what you discuss here is factual with some personal opinion, which is Ok too since we are all different. Have you ridden a Ryker 900 ? Riding one is first hand knowledge. I am 75 yo and have been riding 2 wheelers for 65 years ( yep, started when I was 10 yo ), have owned 56 2 wheelers, a 2013 Spyder RS - SE5 - 998 cc V-Twin, currently ride a 2016 Spyder F3T with manual shift trans ( that I love ), and we got my 70 yo wife a 2021 new left over Ryker 900 ACE last Feb.. My last motorcycle about 3 1/2 years ago was a 2008 Kawasaki ZX14 Ninja so I know power and speed loving to twist it up. I am highly capable of riding a 2 wheeler but prefer to stick with the Spyder. It's safer, more comfortable for me, and still "In the Wind" for some wind therapy. One thing that has to be realized is power to weight ratio as you mentioned. The 900 base Ryker ( 616 pounds ) like my wife's is 330 pounds lighter than my F3T Spyder so it's 82 or so HP makes the Ryker faster accelerating than my 948 pound 115 HP F3T every time. I have been riding 65 years and find the Ryker to be refreshing as a real hoot and blast here in the upstate NY Catskill Mountains ( you went just west of our area on RT. 88 on your FL to Maine trip between Oneonta and Cobleskill, NY ). The Ryker out handles my F3T as well as is faster accelerating, but not top end. I don't mind the simplicity of operation. We paid $10,500 OTD before tax. Like EVERYTHING these days prices are going up on Can-Am products due materials, transport, etc. cost increases and a dwindling work force. The F3T is more comfortable but noticeably heavier making it better for distance riding. Some riders go long distances on Rykers also so all this is a matter of wallet space, personal desires, and fortitude. I like the storage space of the F3T better of course. They are all different animals and my point is that one needs to do their homework and "test drive" before making a choice. Unfortunately, I don't feel a short test drive is very representative of any vehicle. Just sayin' !

My 2019 Ryker Rally has served me well as a guy who is 5'6" and transitioning from 50+ years of riding motorcycles due to health issues. I will say the power issue is not a problem. It has just enough to make a jaded motorsport veteran grin in their helmet without overwhelming the chassis or the target audience's confidence. At $13k, it was a bit overpriced due to things like the cheap display and tons of flimsy plastic bits. Whatever you do, don't spill gas on any of the plastic, it instantly and permanently stains. Which is especially anxiety producing when the fill nozzle is prone to back splashing and is surrounded by said plastic. BRP needs to fix this by painting, wrapping, or coating these panels to make them more resistant to common liquids. All in all though it is just about the only vehicle offered by any manufacturer that gives the feeling of riding while being inherently safer and doing it well enough (value) to keep people buying it. I would love to have the new wheels and cruise control on the newer model.

You have sold me Bob this machine ticks all the boxes. I’ve looked at scooters ,Other 3 wheelers, trikes & side cars. Some are too expensive or too tall. I being a typical guy wanted the biggest bike, however I’m a ‘shorty’ & unfortunately an ‘oldy’ so I think a rally would be great. Thanks once again to you and your lovely wife for your information and excellent video. Greetings from 🇦🇺

  • @lostintheclouds8719

    Hey Coach Bob,
Nice breakdown on the Ryker lineup. So i recently got my motorcycle endorsement oct 2022 (learned on a grom and wasn’t the best at shifting), bought a honda navi (it’s automatic, CVT) and i like it but honestly i don’t feel safe riding it on the road because it’s small. I live in the country where the mph speeds are primarily 45+. The navi maxes out at 55 but shines mostly b/t 30-35mph. The fastest I’ve had it at was 38mph. As much as I thought I wanted to ride a motorcycle, I just don’t feel safe on the road w/ all the cars. If there were no cars, I’d prob ride it more then i do. Since buying it this past February 2023, I’ve only ridden it twice.
I’ve taken all the courses i can take at msf and the coach told me to work on turns from a stop and coming to a stop in a turn. They tell you to ‘get comfortable w/ the uncomfortable.’ Honestly, i don’t want to when it comes to a 2 wheel b/c there’s so much to focus on - the balancing, the lean, the road, etc etc etc. i mean i bought it to enjoy the open road but i just don’t enjoy it when I’m out there on the road. Granted i don’t have enough experience under my belt but I almost feel like i know this (2-wheel) isn’t for me.
So i took the 3-wheel can-am course this past july at MSF (and truth be told, i wanted to do it in oct 2022, but i had missed it for our season. I’m in ny - our season is short.) I took the 3-wheel course on a can-am Ryker 600 and absolutely LOVED it! I have never ridden one before nor a 4 wheeler. You would have never thought it was my first time b/c i was so comfortable and confident on it that i felt like i had been riding my whole life. The coach who taught our 3 wheel class was the same coach i had that taught me motorcycle. Even he told me that i looked more confident/comfortable on the 3-wheel vs the 2-wheel.
I ended up recently selling my Grom (impulse bought this april 2023) and now i just have my Navi which i made into a show piece. I only have 2 days worth of Ryker 600 under my belt and i feel like i could be happy w/ this however i had ppl in the can-am owners group recommend the 600 and the rally.
I love loud pipes and i’ve listened to the akrapovic and honestly i think it sounds similar to stock but maybe a video on UA-cam doesn’t do it justice, who knows. Here’s my deal, i’m shopping used. I’ve been finding crazy good deals on 2021 Ryker 600s (NEW, mostly demo units w/ 0miles to a couple hundred) for under $6k. I’m real tempted to grab these cuz of the deal….however I’ve been finding 2019 Rally’s accesorized w/ things i want for the $7999-8400 price point (about 586-4.4K miles). I know i can add stuff to the Ryker 600 but it will be costly and by the time i do add it, i’m already up to the cost of that used rally or past it. There’s not many Ryker 600s for sale used w/ accessories and understandably so b/c most who buy them are prob beginners who outgrow them and trade up. I don’t want that to be my problem.
While I think a 600 would fully satisfy me, i’m really tempted to grab that rally. I should at least test drive a rally. I have no interest in a spyder other then storage space. I know button shifting is diff from clutch but i don’t want to even mess w/ that. I’d rather just twist and go. I like the idea of the cruise control too. As much as i tempted on the rally, i won’t be going on the highway, nor off-roading. I won’t need to adjust my suspension for anything. I wouldn’t be taking day trips either. I’d like to cruise the open road. We have some rough roads (potholes).
Everyone i tell this too, recommends the 600 to me and then just add the accessories i want… and some say go for the rally.
Another thing i was told was that the rally is highly stealable. Is that true? If it has the anti-theft system, i would think it would be fine, but another reviewer made reference to any Ryker key going in it and being able to start it up.
Sorry for the book here, trying to make an educated decision.
I didn’t know that the added accessories take away from rider weight capacity limit - good to know. I will note that down.

    • @CoachBob3
      @CoachBob3  11 місяців тому +1

I thinks all of the Rykers that use the DESS key (the little fob that clips) are easily stolen. But, I pretty much don't ride in areas where I worry much about theft. You can buy disc locks and take other security measures to deter thieves.
On your 600 vs Rally. I think the 600 is an excellent format to learn and grow on. It is solid, stable and confidence inspiring. My son who is 29 will start out very soon on a 600cc machine. I told him he should get 25,000-30,000 miles and two years of experience before moving up. I rode for years as a boy and after growing up, I rode countless miles on 400cc and less motorcycles for about 5 years.
Always think safe, slow and steady. Grow a little at a time and in a year you will be amazed at how much your skills have grown. Your comment encourages me greatly. It is wonderful to see someone doing it right.
      God Bless....CB3

    • @lostintheclouds8719
      @lostintheclouds8719 11 місяців тому

@@CoachBob3 WOW - that’s a lot of miles! Do all the diff models of rykers use this DESS key or just certain ones? I noted it down, i will look into that. From watching just 2 of your vids so far where you’re riding the rally, when you mentioned the rear wheel kinda lifting up or skidding, that gave me some concern as a beginner b/c when i went thru the course, everything on the 600 just felt planted to me and i liked that. We had a 900 ace in the class too but honestly i didn’t want to get on that one. I was comfortable with the 600. Coming from a 110cc motorcycle lol, 600cc is plenty for me.
When i went thru motorcycle training and was shopping bikes, since I’m 5’6 w/ a 28 3/4 inseam, I’m a bit limited. I like the sports bikes but the seat heights on them don’t like my physical size. Cruisers are nice but heavy. When taking the advanced skills course, i opted to use the rebel 300 and while it was enjoyable for the first 3 1/2 hrs, the fun stopped when i laid it down twice on my left foot during 2 diff maneuvers. At least i was just going b/t 1-5mph, but still it hurt. (Unfortunately my rider boots w/ the d30 hadn’t arrived in time, or else i think that would have helped. Had on timberland pro’s over the ankle and that’s better then nothing but still got 1st degree road rash and a souvenir.) It’s honestly been hard for me to come back from that to even want to get on my 2 wheel and the navi is like the easiest bike to ride. But i was afraid and i almost gave up until i took the 3-wheel course.
I started looking at can-am’s before taking the can-am course cuz i wanted to see how they felt to “sit them” like how i ‘sat’ the bikes when shopping. The spyder f3-s is quite lovely w/ the higher seat and visibility. The seat is like being on a cloud - so comfy. The storage space is ginormous! (I remember sitting the Ryker 600 first and thinking how comfy it was until i sat the spyder f3-s. Then i sat the Ryker again, and no longer felt that comfort after sitting a Spyder lol. Though i know you don’t have to have your feet on the ground during a stop, i noticed I’m able to reach the ground w/ both feet flat from a Ryker compared to the spyder f3-s).
But sitting the can-am’s def helped me b/c i felt completely confident just sitting them thinking, i would feel alot safer operating this on the road then my lil navi and people would def see me more on this compared to the navi. Other can-am owners and reviewers I’ve spoken to agree. Interesting fact, there are some navi owners i know that when they wanted to upgrade to a bigger machine, they went to a Ryker 600 instead of another CVT motorcycle.
When i took the 3-wheel course, i just fell in love with it. I kicked myself for buying a motorcycle b/c i wish i had done the 3 wheel course first and just bought a Ryker. Even though i have my 2-wheel license, a lot of riders i know told me to just go test ride the can-am’s. I didn’t do that b/c honestly i wanted more then just a 20 min test drive especially on a machine that i have no idea how they operate. All the dealers say is they are like a 4-wheeler. I’ve never ridden a 4-wheeler lol. They were gonna let me go test ride it alone. I’m sure i would have been okay but honestly I like to know everything before i do something. So though I didn’t need to do the 3-wheel BRC at MSF, I did it anyways - for one it was half price on promo so you’d be stupid not to lol, but most importantly i get 2 days of instruction learning this machine and lots of hands on time to see if this is something I may enjoy to continue open road exploration. ( i can explore on 4 wheels - car, but it’s just not as enjoyable.) I was shocked at all the people in my class who wanted absolutely nothing to do with a motorcycle. There was 1 other guy who had motorcycles (z125 pro, then Vulcan s 650) and hated them - was scared like me. He got a Ryker 600 - absolutely loves it.
One thing i noticed about riding the 3 wheel is this. A friend of mine from the military taught me how to ride his dirt bike 18 years ago when we were both stationed in ft sill. Back then i was 25 yrs old and i absolutely loved the feeling. It was like the closest to feeling truly free. Never got around to buying a bike back then. Flash forward to 2022 where i properly learned and 2023 riding mine. I’m 43 now btw, and i have to say, i didn’t get the same feeling riding my navi like i did back then. But interesting thing, when i was on the Ryker 600, i did. I felt that same feeling i felt 18 yrs ago, on the Ryker. Ya know what else i felt - i felt like i was more connected to the road (granted i know i am in a parking lot in msf lol) BUT i think it’s cuz of the push pull steering (no power steering) that makes me feel like i am more connected to the road. It’s hard for me to word but it’s like each road has a soul to it and when you ride one of these things, it’s a connection to me. It’s hard for me to describe and put into words but no road is the same. I like that connection. I don’t get this at all with the navi or any 2wheel I’ve ridden.
So sorry for talking your eyes off lol. I think i will go for the 600 then. I’m hoping that the stealable thing isn’t an issue on those models too. There’s alot of things i enjoyed when in the course. Coming from a 2-wheel, it’s funny since I’ve operated both manual and CVT bikes but when riding the 600, my left hand wanted to do something. It wanted to squeeze and on the 600 there’s nothing for that. Lol.
Good luck to your son. I know he will enjoy it. Has he ridden motorcycles too or just wants 3-wheel?
P.S. the teacher we had for 3-wheel, when i had told him pretty much all i told you, he agreed it’s best for me to go thru the course and learn instead of getting on an unfamiliar machine for a test drive. So even he said i was going about it the right way.

I like drive shaft technology as well. The Spyder (like Harley) has gone the "belt route". The drive shaft is more complex in nature, but requires way less maintenance for sure.
As to the question, Will BRP ever go to a shaft drive Spyder? I don't believe they will, unless they end up changing the motor. I know that BRP is working real hard on R & D for some pretty interesting things. This year they have come out with a very interesting line of electric motorcycles. I really want to ride one!!! I am really curious about what direction they are going to take in the future.
      Great questions...thanks for watching. 👍👍👍

CanAm has dropped the ball on the Ryker. I know Coach Bob has to agree on this key feature that is missing. Very simply, they do not offer “open air freedom”. Lol

@@Dan.a.k.a.bradpitt -- Not trolling or whatever... but my little brain says 900cc is bigger than 600cc. So are you saying that you have upgraded some components to make it more sporty than the 900cc? I had a 900cc Triumph Scrambler and it was no race bike. Then I had a BMW R9T and it was a huge difference. When you say the 600cc will kick the 900 in the balls, in what context do you mean that? I dig the Ralley with the white wheels... I know, I am in the minority with that...😊

Would someone please explain to me the compulsion that YT Presenters have to add frenetic, intrusive, distracting pseudo-music tracks to their videos? I simply do Not understand the need to create sound that competes with the Presenters' spoken words. Okay, perhaps they are ashamed of their own voices; but they should not be.

    • @CoachBob3

It is often difficult to balance background music with the narrative. Often when you upload the video.. it doesn't sound exactly like what you made in the studio. It is a learning experience for us creators.
I am certainly not ashamed of my narration or my presentation. I am always looking for way to improve it. Thanks for your observation.
