I hope Doc Lavos recovers...
Spoiler alert: Lavos does not.
For comparison on how badly Lavos handled that you should look to Aaron Zheng playing in actual worlds top 4 back in gen 5. My man missed will-o-wisp 5 times. A 1/1024 chance of that happening, and there's an argument to be made based on the rest of the match that it cost him his spot in finals.
He smiled, laughed, wished his opponent well.
It was beyond missing will o wisp five times. His pokemon stayed fully paralyzed for multiple turns in a row, they hit themselves in confusion...
And yet, he was not salty. So salutes for him. He even became a reporter for the future VGCs too!
That match caused a lot of changes like reducing confusion hit chance, increasing will o wisp's accuracy and nerfing Thundurus.

Luck will exist, and will always be what stops the game from being truly competitive(I mean, trully competitive is when only the skill of players define the match, with luck acting at best, as pure entraintment and nothing else.). @@27iesf In this version of the game they're playing, you can modify your Pokemon to have any moves or abilities, even if they shouldn't be able to. "Unfortunate" doesn't begin to describe my series, this game rewards blind luck and nothing else, I am beyond convinced at this point. After getting completely tooled by scheduling with my opponent changing times on me last minute and refusing to provide confirmation prior to the day of the match as to play times, losing this way somehow felt even worse than I had thought possible. My preparation was superior, my play was superior, and I lost, so I don't see a reason to continue engaging in an activity where what is within my control is overwhelmingly outweighed by what is not.
I am done with competitive Pokemon, and you won't get a fond farewell. This community is infected to its roots with a degenerative disease that grows stronger over time but stops short of killing its host. Tournaments used to have a competitive spirit at their heart, this has been transplanted and replaced with an artificial organ that feeds on vitriol and mockery from insecure little boys that heckle by the sidelines and tear each other to shreds over scraps of attention. The environment we fostered has trapped us all like this in a vicious cycle, and escaping it requires acceptance of the harshest reality we all scramble to explain away, that none of the countless straining efforts we put ourselves through here will ever amount to one single shining glimmer of significance. I would make this the end, but World Cup is still ongoing, and I would never leave so many great friends out to dry, so I'll suffer through a few more games for them.
One last thing before I leave you all to react with disdain, ridicule, and self-righteous fervor, before you do everything in your power to minimize my words and thoughts, box them up and shove them to some cobwebbed corner of your memory, and hope they disappear forever as a stain on your finite time ground to dust. From this moment on, nothing you say matters to me. The foulest insults you hurl with intent to wound will calmly settle at the earth before my feet, and the venom you spit will bring all the pain of a warm summer breeze. You are less than anything you can conceive, while I carry on, brimming with joy distilled from detachment.
Thank you so much! I was about to ask for the full copypasta

What is your opinion on upsidedown pineapple cake
If they don't understand basic mechanics, then they shouldn't be playing Showdown lol.
Lopunny and Mega-Lopunny are hard mode: Because you have to play and strategize while not being distracted by dat ass!
Tbh idk how it works, I seen tempt on my feed on fb and I played Gameboy Pokemon red through emerald and leaf green. It's kinda nostalgic just to watch Pokemon battles, even if it's different than a Gameboy but still really interesting to watch
the whole "I dont understand, therefore it must be cheating" happens in a lot of competitive games, I've dealt with it firsthand in a couple (most notably Starhawk and Smash). It's almost Dunning Kruger effect, except it's some anomaly where this type of player reaches the midway point but assumes they hit the peak and have full confidence that assumption. The excuses never cease to be entertaining

Well you have to assume that they’re all children OR they’re adults who never grew the fuck up. I remember getting pretty mad at games when I was 14 too. So I bet that most of these people fall in that demographic.
Competitive sports and games require a lot from you if you want to get good at them. Imo it is okay to take them seriously to try to get better if thats what fulfills you, even if your choice is "just a pokemon game". It's a matter of pride on your own abilities, is inevitable that when you spend so much time on them you are going to feel distressed when you perform under your expectations. What It isn't okay under any circumstances is to exteriorize this feelings in such immature ways as this people, and more so blaming your opponent for your mistakes or bad luck. Such behaviors are unhealthy and unjustifiable.

I looked him up and was surprised to discover that Lavos was, for several years, a top-ranked Pokémon player in OU tournaments. He even did an interview with false for the Smogon OU Player of the Week project. He seemed reasoned and knowledgeable, if a bit verbose.
I think that some people become so accustommed to winning and being the best that they simply forget what a loss feels like, and as a result even a single loss feels devastating to them. Games like Pokémon or (in my case) MtG will always involve an element of chance, and while that randomness can be infuriating it also helps keeps those kinds of games fun and refreshing. The only way to avoid chance is by playing something like chess. Hope he’s able to grow up and move on.

The first guy doesn’t know how Pokémon works.
Endeavor: Matches your opponents HP to yours. Shedinja only has one HP.
Sturdy: Doesn’t allow for a Pokémon to get hit from max health to 0. Since Shedinja has only 1 Hp, Sturdy makes it invincible to all moves except status moves.
He also didn’t realize that Shedinja is a ghost Pokémon. Explosion is a normal type move. Ghost is immune to normal.

sturdy on shedninja really is busted, same with sash and wonderguard
Sturdy on shedinja is the most op though, and no damaging move can shake it directly, needs stat condition to send it to heck

Second, Sturdy will always work if you are at max health and since Shedinjas max hp is 1 he kinda cant be killed since 1hp will always be his max health meaning he will have infinite sturdy
Is that not a bit broken? Like is that actually allowed? Is there anyway to beat this pokemon?
@@adamach3776 it’s probably hackamons. You don’t have to worry because Shedinja can’t learn sturdy unless you cheat
@@adamach3776 yes, anything that isn't direct damage from attacks kills it instantly, since sturdy doesn't protect from status conditions or the various forms of spikes. poison, burn, stealth rock, spikes, anything like that instantly kills it.
@@adamach3776 it can be beat via poisons or entry hazards iirc
And maybe with a multi-hit move, works for normal sturdy but I'm not sure about this specific case for that

Lavos really gave his "You humor me greatly with your arrogance and contempt" speech here
Oh god, THAT speech...
some say Lavos is still brimming with joy distilled from detachment to this very day...
Basically, the first guy doesn't know how sturdy or endeavor work. Sturdy always activates when a move would knock out from max hp or is an ohko move. Thing is, Shedinja has a max hp of 1 so you never go below 100% hp so it always activates. Endeavor is a move that sets your target's hp to the user's hp so since Shedinja always has 1hp it is also always going to put you to 1%. If that guy sees this somehow I hope it helped you understand it.
Sturdy Shedinja is wild tho lol
