    I wish you guys could've mentioned the connection to Carl Barks classic Disney Duck comic books. George Lucas grew up a big fan of them and Scrooge McDuck's mannerisms helped inform Indiana Jones' character. Not to mention, the whole opening sequence to Raiders was inspired by the stories "The Seven Cities of Cibola" and "The Prize of Pizarro" and the original haunted castle script treatment for Indy3 sounds an awful lot like "The Old Castle's Secret!" Great stuff as always, guys.

      That is one of the best shows of all time, because it is precisely for all ages. It is historical, educational, adventurous and highly entertaining. The production values and acting are top notch and the cinematography is as dynamic as any classic film.

    I don't get the hate for the nuke/fridge thing ESPECIALLY when, as witnessed here, you've had a raft that perfectly inflates in mid-air and lands, with people in it, AND they survive the fall; as well as a mine cart that leaps of a track, only to land perfectly on another piece of track. How are either of those any less improbable?

      Yes, but Raiders proved the existence of the Judeo/Christian God so, next to that, a bomb-proof fridge is virtually factual.

    That was excellent. Learnt some things I didn't know. I'm pretty sure though, that Cate Blanchett's character from Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was the basis for the character Arihnda Pryce in Star Wars: Rebels - the two look almost identical, bar the uniforms.

    Great video. I didn´t know about Sallah getting murdered in Raiders, good thing they changed that. As for Crystal Skull, I was so hyped by a new Indy film that I actually liked it the first time I watched it. Later I started noticing its many, many problems. And then they made Indy 5 and, wow, Crystal Skull is not that bad again, haha.

    Despite Spielberg cutting out the scene where one of Indy’s students is at his house (who supposedly was pregnant), they still kept the notion that Marion was “a child” when they had a relationship.

    Another great video Michael. However, I noticed you didnt mention the discrepancy with the dates. Raiders came out first. However Temple of Doom is dated one year before the events of Raiders. Raiders opens in South America in 1936. Temple opens in Shanghai in 1935. I really enjoyed the video. I also loved Melinda's Seinfeld reference.

    The story that Anthony Powell relayed about the elephant and that dress, isn't really true - I've spoken with some of the ladies who worked at Barbara Matera in 1983, who worked on the Anything Goes dress as well as Willie's maiden sacrifice outfit, and they recall making three red & gold dresses (one for Capshaw, one for the stunt double and then an extra one, "just in case"). Also, two of these dresses were on display at two different exhibitions ("Hollywood Costume" in Los Angeles , and "Indiana Jones and the Adventure of Archaeology" in Edmonton) at the exact same time. Oh god now i sound like a giant know-it-all (sorry! Your panel is superb!!). The original design always had the open back, as well

    I loved the Raiders of the Lost Ark Atari game. I remember being so proud when I beat it. It was one of the first and only Atari games I think that had an ending. I think I (my mom) ordered it from Atari Age magazine. Also I love Temple of Doom. It was my favorite for years. It was the first vhs tape I had. Tales of the Gold Monkey was a favorite childhood show. I was super excited for the Young Indiana Jones chronicles and still have some vhs tapes where I recorded it. Most of the Sean Patrick Flannery ones were excellent. No mention of the one episode that Harrison Ford appears?

  • @sevenoh70

    There are two things that are always considered problems that aren't. The first is the idea that Indy couldn't have survived the U-boat journey. Apparently U-boats didn't submerge when travelling and actually move faster on the surface. The second is the notion that Indy plays no part in the outcome of the story. This is rubbish because Indy is the only person who knows where Marion is and the Nazis follow him to Nepal to find the headpiece. That's why the CIA hire him in the first place!

  • @Schush
    @Schush 5 років тому

    Couple of things:
    What's the story with the German soldier that's all bandaged up in Raiders? He's seen predominantly on Kitanga's ship when it's captured by the Nazi uboat; he has Marion at gunpoint with an MP40.
    You mentioned deleted scenes from Crusade but omitted Temple. We are aware of the makeshift plank where the children escape from the altar. But, I'm curious on the "Black Sleep of Kali" scene. Where Short Round sees a Thuggee guard burned by some lava flotsam. So... it begs the question - did Indy murder innocents that were inebriated under the spell? Sorta glad the latter scene did wind up on the cutting room floor if that's the case.

  • @nickmanzo8459
    @nickmanzo8459 4 роки тому

    Michael, I get what you mean about Last Crusade being very similar to Raiders, but I think it bookends nicely with The Ark story, as it’s almost like an Old Testament vs. New Testament kind of story arc.

    • @Desslar
      @Desslar 6 років тому +2

      Thanks. Fantastic and very amusing presentation by the way. I believe the Mark VIII was a British-American tank. I see there's an Indiana Jones Wiki that says the tank was a gift from the local sultan to the Germans. I don't recall that detail from the film, but that would explain how they got a non-German tank. In real life Panzer IIs were already in service at the time the story begins ('38). But they are smaller than Mark VIIIs and the same stunts (hanging from the cannon, fighting on top of the tracks) would not have been possible.

    (Puts hand up) Yeah, I like Crystal Skull! I seriously do not get the hate. It's cool if, like Temple of Doom, it's not your favourite, but people get so worked over this movie, like it's a personal insult or it ran over your dog. It's no more wild or swashbuckling or cheesy than the others.
    The fridge gag was meant to be a cheeky nod to lead-lined fridges. And suddenly, after three other films involving questionable science, mysticism, religion, immortality and Short Round, people are calling *that* scene out as unrealistic?
    Go recapture your youthful sense of wonder and exuberance and comeback to watch this film with light and joy in your heart.
