Michael, Tony and Matt join forces to create a masterful documentary about the 2008 Hasbro Indiana Jones Toyline. But it is Michael's film making expertise, attention to detail and dedication, that lifts this video production to new heights. 10/10.
Unlike the Jones Boys, you can rest assured that RetroBlasting, Analog Toys and MattMovies611 did NOT ride off into the sunset at the end of this video...
I really loled at that comment but then I got to thinking...what about Freddy Kruger? I don't know if hasbro made any but there's definitely some nice Freddys out there. ( Yes I know I'm kinda running over the joke, sorry for that). ;)
Two years ago I made a comment on this video that I still regret, so I erased it as I feel it does not represent who I am or how I feel about your videos. I love your in depth Indy reviews including this one, which I have watched multiple times since it was released. I know it might be weird to still think about a youtube comment I left years ago, but it still bugged me even years later. I'm sorry for that stupid comment. I probably just had a very bad day and just didn't process it right. I just needed to get this out. Thank you for continuing to make great work, Michael!
Too young to have experienced Kenner Indiana Jones, and “Too old” (aka pretended I was too cool) for Hasbro Indiana Jones. I never had any of the toys unfortunately. So this is a wonderful look into everything that I missed out on. Had these figures come out in the 90’s I would’ve lost my mind. I ran around the yard with my dad’s old capgun (sans caps) and a jump rope for a lasso singing the Indiana Jones theme to myself. So these toys would’ve seen heavy play, especially with Joes. I can see it now, Indy leading a Joe team to look for some artifact or other to thwart Cobra’s plan.
Kinda the same here. I was 16 when Indy 4 came out and I loved the movie but I just felt I was "too old" and "too cool" for toys at that stage. By the time I realised that you could buy appreciate them as an adult (a year later), they had pretty much all gone and there were just a few random ones available on clearance. Definitely not making that same mistake this year but I'm worried that Disney won't put as much effort into marketing Indy the way they did Star Wars or how Paramount did with Indy last time
@@joevictor53 yeah, in My case i was 5 years when indy 4 came out and remember the LEGO videogame , sets , and Hasbro toys unfortunately I was more fan of dinosaurs at the time, but this year with indy 5 at My 20 years i really want all new toys of indy the adventures series z world of adventures and of course the LEGO indiana Jones diorama and sets ( sorry for My English)
Whilst other channels are off chasing fortune and glory, Retroblasting delivers top tier content that makes them look like they are digging in the wrong place. I am well aware of the effort that has gone into this and it absolutely shows. An astounding achievement.
The Hasbro Indiana Jones toyline was one of my very favorites from my childhood, it's a big reason why I'm still crazy about action figures and Indiana Jones to this day. I've enjoyed every time you have discussed the line on this channel, so I'm so thrilled that you finally delivered an hour + long video covering it! Thank you and happy 10th anniversary!
This was FANTASTIC Michael, Matt & Tony- NOT only did I really enjoy the Review and I treasure my collection even more. seeing this video really brighten up my day. Hopefully the NEW Indiana Jones figures will relish from past mistakes. Thanks guys for a great and wonderful insight of Indiana Jones.
What a phenomenal in-depth analysis of the toy line. Not some flash in the pan review with jpegs swiped from Google. Each and every figure gets discussed between Michael, Tony and Matt. This is why I return to this channel time and time again. The quality of the content never lets the viewer down. Congrats to all on getting this over the line. I can’t imagine the amount of work that has gone into such a big production. And thank you all for brining it to us. This will be the gold standard of the Hasbro Indy toy line forever more.
I had some chores to do and I told myself I'll just watch the first 20 mins and then watched it straight through of course. Really well done Michael, the editing was sharp as ever.
This is probably my new most favorite Retroblasting feature, thanks to everyone who worked on it. =) ALSO! I just remembered how I got my figures of Temple of Doom Indy, Short Round, and Thugee Taskmaster several years ago. I was in a toy store in a local mall that sold a lot of bootlegs and I saw a large bin FILLED with loose 2008 Temple of Doom figures being sold dirt cheap. I actually thought they were bootlegs but when I got home I found the date and Hasbro markings on them so they were the genuine deal. If only I knew back then!
A near feature-length documentary about a toy line I was barely aware of by one of the most consistently top notch channels on this platform? Yes, please. Every time. Fantastic work to all involved. Loved the adult collector assessments contrasted with the kid who played with them. Figures truly don't always have to be great for kids to like them, but it never hurts.
A masterpiece! This videos shows the lengths Retroblasting is prepared to go in researching not only a toyline but a cultural phenomenon. I am sharing this video with as many friends as possible.
Weirdly enough, this makes me want WW2 action figures. When you were showing the German and Russian soldiers,I kept thinking that I would love a great battle set out of those figures.
Wow Michael, this is Epic!! Amazing job, love all the clips as they go perfectly with the topic and more than that really make me want to watch these movies again. Also loved the brief Buck Rogers figure cameo lol.
I never bought any of the 2008 Indiana Jones toys, so this was a great video showcasing the ups and downs of the line. I will say, I'm digging the Temple of Doom figures, and wouldn't mind getting them for my collection. As a kid of the 80s though, the Kenner figures will always be my favorite, and as much as I know it's a rehashed gimmick, I'm a bit excited to see how they handle the Retro Indiana Jones figures, and depending on how they are presented, I may try to get those. As always, another solid video, great job guys!
Really great video. Brings back a lot of memories when I was picking these up when they were on shelves. The crystal skull alien was the last mail away toy I ever got.
Thank you guys for unlocking a memory I didn’t know I had, I literally dug the plastic backed truck from raiders out of my closet and remembered when I was a kid being upset that Indiana Jones was on the box cover but wasn’t included in the box lol. Great video!
I grew up with those figures and they are one of the reasons why I've decided to pursue history and archaeology. This is also the best video that I've seen on this channel and one of my favourite videos on youtube. I applaud you Michael for this valliant effort. You are the best!
A great video and content from all parties. Bravo to you at Retroblasting, Analog Toys, and Mr. Kearns. I have spent the last few months constructing my own Ultimate Raiders Indy from your video and it sits as a nice display piece. I wish the line had more moxy and people flew to it like they had Star Wars. This is a line of missed opportunities and unfulfilled potential. But theres some decent figures and the vehicles are a great last hurrah for Hasbro and their vehicle aversion. I wish the line had more so we could have the full cast of the films and even the unreleased Marvel comic packs from "The Further Adventures of Indiana Jones" and expansion into stories like "The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles" and "The Fate of Atlantis." But alas. A fantastic video on all fronts, and brilliantly informative. Bravo.
This video is just amazing, one of the the best of it's kind. I stopped collecting action figures 10 years ago, but I might start again, just for this line! Just amazing! Cheers.
Love your videos sir…starting to rewatch certain episodes…they’re very comforting….it puts everything into perspective but you still see the magic where it counts with the toys and lore
I must say kudos to this extremely comprehensive video. I learnt so much about these Indiana Jones figures which I didn’t know existed. And it made me go search for and buy the best Indiana Jones figure based on your reporting of it.
This is one of your best videos ever. Really loved everything and all the info about these curious but awesome toys. Some of them are real head scratchers, while others are real bangers. I didn’t buy any of the IJ action figures unfortunately, However I did buy numerous sets from the Lego line, which I suggest you check out because it is seriously one of their greatest LEGO themes to date with an awesome video game as well. Where hasbro fumbled with Indiana Jones, LEGO absolutely nailed it and produced some beautiful play sets and incredible minifigures.
This video was SO worth the wait. Great commentary by Michael, Tony, and Matt and the editing was just hilariously done. Fantastic job everyone! I'm loving it!
Matt and I are the same age, so it was awesome hearing his childhood stories on these figures, especially because I was able to relate. I'll never forget my first Indy figure, nor the resurgence of Indiana Jones in pop culture during that time.
What a fantastic video! I watched it right to the end and was entertained. I bought every piece from the Crystal Skull line to maintain my collection of every toy line for each movie as they were released. Then later regretted not going all in in Hasbro's 08 attempts at retro covering the first 3 movies. I still havent. But I plan on buying everything for Indy 5, even if I regret THAT.
I'm not a particularly big Indy fan...although I do own an Indy jacket and shirt, but I love these videos just for the sheer passion shown by all. Another home run!
Well made and highly informative, as always. I'd come across the big image of every Hasbro Indy figure before, but figured that most of them were prototypes, as I'd never seen half of them.
Brilliant, a fantastic deep dive into a noble toy line. Sure there was some slip ups with the jungle cutter, face sculptures and temple playset but still an enjoyable line. Well done Michael! 👏
Brilliant Video Michael, I tip my Fedora to you all. A thorough review, very well edited, and full of surprises. Additionally, I always appreciate your comprehensive collection on display as you discuss the toy lines you review. I’m grateful for the balance of opinions offered by Tony and Matt. I noticed an interesting contrast to their lighting and commentary. Matt was in shadow, but offered a light side view of the toys. Tony was very well lit, yet offered the harshest criticism of the line. Thank you for all your hard work, the results were a success. Don’t listen to BV, he’s just jealous. I’m already looking forward to watching this one again. Two Indy Thumbs up 🤠👍👍
@1:16:29 Dang that Miriam Figure looks exactly like TWO amazing ladies: Siouxsie Sioux from Siouxsie and the Banshees “Kiss Them For Me” video and more recently the Witch turned Army Leader General Alder from “Fort Salem”! For real, look em both up, I know its not an intentional likeness but -that could actually be a fun video Michael, action figures that bear an uncanny (and obviously unintentional) likeness to real world people! (And yet look nothing like the intended actor/actress the figure was supposed to be! LOL! And this is a great and thorough Indy Figure video, sent to a friend in the UK who LOVES Indy!!!
Well done. The time and effort is all over this thing both in presentation and detail. I hope this catches a lot of attention a few different times this year and the effort pays off in views!
I've just finished watching this, only just realised it was over an hour long but damn you kept my interest the whole time, I really needed this vid today, i just got the indy quadrilogy on blu ray this morning this hit just right. Damn man I'm hitting that subscribe!
I had almost the entire collection. This made collecting fun again after massive Star Wars burnout. An amazing video Michael. Been waiting to watch this all week, sadly had a funeral to be at and Comfort my wife due to a family loss.
*Fun facts about the Colonel Vogel figure:* If you look on the black armband, you can make out a dotted circle that indicates that it was at least designed to be coloured. Also, in 2009 the body and accessories were reused in the _Marvel Universe_ line's *Invaders* pack for - appropriately - the Red Skull figure, complete with a detailed HYDRA armband.
This! This is why I love Retroblasting and Analog Toys The level of research, the depth they go into and the attention to detail!!! And they are always right!!! #ChefsKiss
Fellas, this was above and beyond! Tip top work. Feature length toy archeology and I enjoyed every minute of it. I didn't realize how much better the line got, having never seen TLC figures at retail or really checking into the SDCC line. I know those figures fetch some fairly high prices, but I am now inspired to go on a quest for them...
I have to say that I really liked the 12" scale mail away Ark of the Covenant for the line. That was a simply beautiful piece at the time and the only piece I ended up keeping all these years. Great review as always good sir.
Great job with this. My dad got a bunch of the original Raiders figures on extreme clearance in like 1982/83. I think still have them all mint on card!
I had the Indiana Jones cracking whip figure as a small child and loved it as my dad brought me up on IJ and SW, later on my dad found a ridiculous amount of Kenner toys at auction for £12 because it was an antique auction with the wrong demographic. It had the at-at, the falcon, the rebel transport, the at-st and a box with more than half of the Kenner figure line. They are me and my dads family heirlooms which I will love for the rest of my life. Thank you dad, I mention it all time but thank you.
WoW, this was very interesting and entertaining! I have almost the whole collection myself and still some things were unknown to me, like the truck variation for example... very cool... I totally agree with Thomas Phillips, this video brighten up my day! Thank you very much and keep up the great work!
Very impressive! I am so glad I picked up some original Kenner figures and the Lost Ark Playset in 2018. The prices today are 🫢😟🥺😣 not affordable for me any longer. There was the 2008 Die Cast Titanium series; I wonder if they were any good. 🤔 Anything Indiana Jones @Retroblasting covers is immensely entertaining and enjoyable. Thank you for @AnalogToys and Mattmovies611 input too! The whole thing was so fun to watch especially the beginning and the end with Micheal’s famous roommate. 😏
Fantastic video. Great work. The analysis and detail is what I have come to expect from Retroblasting. Question: You mention that someone at Hasbro must have been a fan to incorporate the level of detail included in the line. Could the "failure" of this line be one reason why Hasbro does NOT let fans of an IP work on designs for that IP?
Fantastic video! I enjoyed this very much. If only they would give it another try and make it the best it can be, they certainly was on the right track towards the end of the line. I seriously would love to have some of these figures in my collection, the Temple of Doom line had some solid stuff. Great work, well done, this was excellent!
Incredible video! Although I was surprised you didn’t mention the 12 inch figures that if I remember correctly came out around the same time. They had incredible detail especially in the accessories.
It's awesome that they added a lot of the artifacts from the Dark Horse Indiana Jones comics. Hasbro certainly went to a lot of trouble to include a lot of the expanded indiana jones material.
I will just say that as a walmart employee in 2008. Wave 3 was ordered in the same amounts as wave 1 and 2. Since they were released within a few months of each other, buyers basically took it on faith that the line would sell because Hasbro assured us that this movie was going to be a big thing like Transformers was the year before. The hype for Indy 4 was also huge, there was talks that it would be THE movie of the summer. Wave 1 and 2 were issued simultaneously and I can remember setting up the huge endcap display of these toys. The indy figures all sold first followed by Marion (shortpacked), the soldiers, and the new characters. The only shelf warmers we had were the Ugah and Cemetery warriors Monkey Man and Belloq in his robes. We ordered a restock, and then the movie hit. Now we were stuck with 2 waves of figures and a 3rd wave on the way, which other than Indy and the machine gun, the rest sold poorly. This is what led to the underordering of the Temple wave. Meanwhile the movie that ended up owning the summer "The Dark Knight" we couldn't keep those on shelves especially the Heath Ledger Joker figure.
Also, I might add that the lost wave was supposed to be wave 5. The figures were sculpted and photographed for retailers, and online stores even having pre-orders of them. I ordered a set on entertainment earth until the line's cancellation ended that. Fans were livid, wanting these released either as an online exclusive or a store exclusive. Hasbro told fans for over 3 years it was not going to happen, until 2011 and the 30th anniversary of Raiders gave them the idea to release as a SDCC set. A move that angered fans and, has valued this set at close to 1,000 dollars on the secondary market because of how desirable it is. As for the other vehicles that never saw release, Hasbro had intentions on releasing more, but the lack of sales on the other vehicles post movie really hampered that idea. One vehicle that was never going to happen was the flying wing. Hasbro reps said due to the length and overall size of it, it was not cost feasible to spend money on tooling and production on such a project in its first year. Maybe down the line should the line sell to expectations, we could have seen something. Heck maybe through Haslab we will see something.
@Mattmovies611 opinions are probably the most worthwhile. I really appreciate hearing from someone who saw these as toys and not criticizing face sculpts. I always wonder if bad face sculpts are a way to avoid paying for likeness rights rather than poor tooling.
Lemme fix this for you. "@Mattmovies611 opinions are very worthwhile. I really appreciate hearing from someone who actually played with these toys as a kid. Thanks for including him in the discussion." (You'll get a lot more mileage that way with a comment. Because I'm supposedly the negative person, remember? And all the commenters are benevolent angels that fight for positivity all the time...... Oh, wait..... Looky here...)
Compare how you (Michael) look when listening to Matt vs Tony. Your perseverance in collecting this range is impressive as is your overview on how the line progressed. I only grabbed a smattering of these and bought a Henry Jones figure recently. It is fantastic and I put him and Indy in a motorcycle with sidecar I found in a thrift store. Also, screw broken Vader! Keep the 80 min videos coming if you feel like it!
Grant, if you don't like my face and the tone of my voice, you need to either keep that to yourself or move along, because telling someone that their entire personality is the problem is a really horrible thing to tell someone when you have no certainty what their actual intentions are in the emotions they want to convey. If I was on the spectrum, you'd be in real hot water right now. You need to check your comments like this in the future with people. Nobody makes an hour and 20 minute video for something they hate, and I was very complimentary about this line throughout this video. It's clear you weren't listening because you don't like the tone of my voice. Well, my dude - step off the pier while I wave good bye, because I can't solve your problem with me. That's on you. - Michael
@@retroblasting sorry. This was never a comment on your personality. It’s seeing the difference while you listen to Matt talk about playing with these as toys vs ridiculing and sarcastic with Tony. I know how your humour works, I’ve been watching/following RB for years. I just preferred seeing your reactions to Matt throughout your examination of the line. Replying again may not even be the right move but I shared an opinion that maybe wasn’t worded as clearly as it could have been. It certainly wasn’t received as intended. I was never trying to insult you or your obvious hard work here.
Great vid! Would have loved this years ago to clear up all the different Indianas LOL! I hope Hasbro does the next series right with characters from all films and unproduced characters
Great work to all involved. A well done video, Michael and worth the wait. All the talk of missing playsets though, has me wondering if there's any future Indy (or other) projects once the Bespin playset is complete....
I like the juxtaposition of Matt's thoughts from his childhood and Tony's thoughts as an adult collector. Very thorough and well done video!
I thought that was pretty cool too.

Two Indy Thumbs up 🤠👍👍
Your opening rocked. Love the collaboration and the insight here. Always a joy!
never grow tired of these great videos 🙂
Absoulty outsanding work!
I'd love to see more Indy videos on your channel
I've just finished watching this, only just realised it was over an hour long but damn you kept my interest the whole time, I really needed this vid today, i just got the indy quadrilogy on blu ray this morning this hit just right. Damn man I'm hitting that subscribe!
Thank you!
Wow excellent work, this video is getting me in the mood to go watch the movies again and pick up some of the figues. Thanks Michael, Tony , and Matt
43:02 I just realized they had the young Indy accidentally cut his chin with the whip to show how older Indy got that scar on his chin.
I had almost the entire collection. This made collecting fun again after massive
Star Wars burnout.
An amazing video Michael.
Been waiting to watch this all week, sadly had a funeral to be at and Comfort my wife due to a family loss.
Thank you for the compliment! Our sincere condolences to you and your wife.
"What did you do today Jason?"
I watched the best new Indy movie.
HAHAHAHAHA!
This!
This is why I love Retroblasting and Analog Toys
The level of research, the depth they go into and the attention to detail!!!
And they are always right!!!

Give Matt Movies some love too...he doesn't get as many feature ins, but he's a reliable younger collector with the tried and true
This video was awesome as a huge Indiana Jones fan!!! Been waiting for the follow-up since 2016.
This video is amazing, thank you guys for all the work put into it, I very much enjoyed
GREAT episode, dude! I still cherish my Kenner Indy figures I grew up with. :)
Great job with this. My dad got a bunch of the original Raiders figures on extreme clearance in like 1982/83. I think still have them all mint on card!
I don’t even like collecting figures nor do I really like 80s toys/movies but your videos are so entertaining
Well done, thorough, highly detailed overview / review of the Indy range. Thank you!
A fine quality video from a dapper gent 🙂... and his sidekicks on a rollicking adventure.
I loved watching this. Fantastic Job Michael, Tony and Matt
About lost my shit at 8:06. Well done! I have been waiting for a video like this for awhile!!
One of the greatest Retroblasting Videos ever made
WoW, this was very interesting and entertaining! I have almost the whole collection myself and still some things were unknown to me, like the truck variation for example... very cool... I totally agree with Thomas Phillips, this video brighten up my day! Thank you very much and keep up the great work!
This is an outstanding piece of work
This was a great video and great collab video
Top-notch production.. as always 👍
As always, great video! I like what all of you bring to the table.
What an amazing video! So well made. Thank you!
I enjoyed every second of this! Bravo to all involved. I have very fond memories of this line!
Thanks to this video I ended up buying the 6 Temple of Doom figures mint on card. Great video.
Excellent video Michael, above and beyond
Fantastic video about one of my favorite toy lines, despite its MANY problems.
This is classic retroblasting. Just a fantastic deep dive.
Great stuff as usual, michael. Tony's roasts of the figures 😂
I love Indiana Jones . I get my Indiana figures from a collector. Great deal. Nice video love it.
Nice job, guys. Really great video!
Awesome colab!
Hmmm... interesting theory.
Would not surprise me. Bobby Vala would be a good person to ask...
I have the 12 inch talking Indy and German figure, both were a lot of fun back in the day!
I don't know why you'd be surprised. We don't mix scales in our retrospectives. Next to never.
What a fantastic vid, never fails to entertain and educate. Can’t wait for the hasbro 6inch line for Indy 5 praying daily it actually happens lol!
I mean I did say Spalko’s face looked like a meme so I criticized the face sculpts of the figures as well
Lemme fix this for you.
