40 years ago I saw this concert at Reading. The Scorpions were a last minute replacement for Thin Lizzie who didn't show. I was 17 and this was my first festival. Was into heavy metal but I'd not heard much Scorpions and wasn't expecting much but they blew my teenage mind. I went straight out and bought Lovedrive. I love these guys! Anyway, tomorrow I'm flying to see them play in Kiev - 40 yrs on and I'm wetting myself with excitement!!!
@@edgarteran1894 I posted this whole show in audio on the FB page: Matthias Jabs/MJ Guitars/Scorpions Fan Page years ago. Go there to see if it's still there. I no longer am admin there so I don't know.
I was on a rail trip across Europe and crossed the channel just to be at Reading in 1979. And yes, Scorpions were a last minute replacement for Thin Lizzy...

How stupid were the cameramen and editors for this video? A landmark solo and they show Herman and Rudolf doing nothing. I mean boring nothing. Matthias must be like, what do I have to do to get in this thing! Great performance though.
(Live) TV editors back then had no real sense of timing or rhythm especially when it came to music performancers whose material they were perhaps quite unfamiliar with or hadn't rehearsed properly so it was usually all random shots, remember that sort of unfortunate stuff well. It wouldn't be accepted in today's polished climate of 'perfection' where nothing's left to chance, it did have a certain charm though, you either got lucky or you didn't.
As a photojournalist that shoots and edits and does live remotes. First let's not jump the gun on the editor.and camera person. I am sure they had time to look at the raw footage. Sure it makes sense to have the guitar solo in but if the camera person did not shoot the solo the editor has no choice but to out something else. I agree that there should have been more shots of Matthias.. As I looked at the. video. It would have been shot better and it makes a difference for the editor. Don't if the camera person and editor are still around but you guys are out there still perhaps you all can comment what happened.
