Matthias Jabs is one of the true guitar heroes of the 80s, Epic talent
He couldn't match the class of Uli Roth.
@@martintaper7997 Matthias might not have been as classy, but he was far more stylish 😎👌
@@MichaelHolmgaard Uli was the master of style - compare to this video, which I'm sure you already know : ua-cam.com/video/IEdOOLOARYo/v-deo.html
Jabs just half ass hacks his way through Uli's licks
Uli has more talent than everyone else who has been in this band combined.
c'mon ppl everybody knows that Uli is one of the best of all times, there's no need of putting down Matt. Only for daring to fill in he deserves a medal, let alone that he is very, very good, how many great solos of Mathias, great songs and memories... great guy and phenomenal stage rocker
There's many factors I'm not sure people are allowing for. Other than style (Jabs was apparently spec brought in for a thick 80s blast), the gear goes along as well. That explorer guitar and the pickups further add a thickness to anything played. No doubt the amps and whatnot are geared to such as well. (People should check out Uli playing a V in a vid here when his gear was missing for that show.)
As a young player, Jabs no doubt didn't attempt crazy sound changes just as Uli kept a narrower sound earlier in his career. IMO, a great example of failing at this is Slash. His Les Paul sound is great, but as his gear is keyed to that, when he picks up a Mockingbird in concert, it's awful.
It's apples and oranges, and very interesting how player's personal take (inc gear take) can massively change a song.
When matthias record blackout songs. Then he made uli and michael go far behind
Of course...Uli is God. Nuff said.
I´m so happy and grateful that I had the opportunity to meet Matthias Jabs as a child and be able to play guitar with him in Munich. He gave me so much understanding about music in general in 30 minutes. He´s my all time favorite musician, BORN TO TOUCH MY FEELINGS
Your story are amazing 🤩
If Roth doesn't do it , wont listen. The emotion Uli puts into it. A poem written by his wife, Hendrix old girlfriend , last to see him alive. This is a tribute to Jimi. Jabs is not in the same atmosphere as Roth
@@stefancolwell63 We all know that story. So, you are agree: every talented musician had his own style, and there nothing worse than try to replicate another one when you can offer your own thing.
One of the greatest rock bands of all time !!!,,, always thought they were underated in America .
With uli they were the greatest band on the planet
@@alexanderruppert1705mmm planet idk
Klaus sounds fantastic. Dude kills it.
This song is amazing in 2023 still fresh as Back in the day
A masterpiece thank you scorpions for your talent
Gawd damn I miss my mom sooo fuggin much! This song is our connection atm, but this shiiaatt really really hurts, my heart feels like it's breaking apart.. Mom, this one is for you! I love you forever..
Hei Scorpions fans, this is SCORPIONS thru and thru. The real one. The essence of Scorpions. I prefer We'll Burn The Sky 10000 times better than I'm Still Loving You. We'll Burn The Sky makes me feel young. And Klaus went " I feel blue ... when you're gone...." I miss my Tokyo Tapes.
Still Loving you was composed at the same time as We'll Burn the Sky.
@@Slaker02320 you know there is a difference between Uli Roth sound and Mattias Jabs sound although Rudy Schenker is the common one for both songs. Still Loving You lacks the raw 70's sound and mood to it. Now it depends on what your preferences are . I am 55 and I still like We'll Burn The Sky 10,000 time better be both of them written at the same time or otherwise. I get old with We'll Burn The Sky. Still Loving You..I lost interest in it long ago. Even Klaus Meine sound different in both songs. You can't hear ?
@@ZK-hh2or Matthias play on this video.
I love both 70's era and 80's era of Scorpions, I know it doesn't sounds the same, 80's era is more commercial etc... But I can feel an indescriptible emotion on Still Loving You, and so much power on other 80's songs, the World Wide Live is incredible... Scorpions is still touring today, it means they still have the passion of music. 80's era is more commercial but this is the music they love and I love it too, even if I would like ear a little more 70's songs in their concerts. What you feel is nostalgia, not an objective critic. I was born in 1995 so I can't feel nostalgia, when I became fan of this band, they were already old.
But I can understand why you and many others prefers Roth's era, he has a very singular way to play guitar and unique sound. He's a fantastic musician. But We'll Burn the Sky is not that complex, there is only 3 chords... The sound has change, not the talent. Sorry for my poor english level and long live Scorpions.
@Slacker-
Who cares about the vIdeos? Thats for you young MTVers. What he is saying is true however he missed the point about Uli being the soul of Taken By Force and Tapes
@Ache
I got you beat at 59!
All I'm saying is you need Uli to get to the soul of that 70s sound. And you are spot on about the differences between 70's and 80s. And I don't like how Rudolf prances around with self importance. He always did that but seems to be true after what Michael Schenker says about his brother.
Wow! They played Reading back in 1979?
I had no idea. This is great footage! Thanks to whoever uploaded it! And how great is UA-cam that you can see these rare Gems now? Fantastic!
The Scorpions themselves uploaded this
They had toured England since 1975 and had a strong following there. In 1979 they had a hot new album and lineup with Matthias Jabs replacing Uli Roth, and also they were riding on the success of their live album containing their last shows with Uli Roth
They were late replacements for Thin Lizzy who pulled out of the festival.
Love the original with Uli, but Matthias kicks ass on this song, just in a different way, his interpretation. I heard it live 2 years ago, and Matthias was on point. Two wonderful guitarists with distinctive sounds.
Matthias is great, i mean it… but if you think he is anywhere near uli as guitarist or musician you are crazy
@@martinbrambley500 I get your point. I’m just saying I love Matthias’s interpretation. No disrespect to the great Uli Jon Roth. In fact, I love them both and don’t favor one over the other. I just think Matthias kicks ass on it.
Saw this a few years ago at Uli show. Was so good!
Masterpiece of a song. They have scores of great songs, but this is one of their ten best. Masterful.
The voice of A German God! Klaus rules and Scorpions is Awesome!
Still got the pipes..amazing
Klaus, you are the best!!! I miss you very much. Much love from Italy!! Your fan Annamaria
I Mean Wow Man Feels Good When You Catch a Ride On
'Lonesome Crow' is my favorite Scorps album! I like everything they do! JAM On!!!
Lonesome Crow was psychedelic not hard rock. Also Michael Schenker wrote and played most of the material. He talks about it in interviews
Excellence!
Rawk on!
@@rangerrick222 All songs from Lonesome Crow - Music Michael Schenker, Lyrics - Klaus Meine.
My favorite is Blackout and Love At First Sting
Such an awesome band 🤟🏻

The greatest song ever
Wow, two days online and more than 30.000 views! This song is 45 years old! This is german music history!
yeahhh,of the greatest band,the scorpions!!
Excellent performance by Matthias, trying to establish bridges between Roth's style and his own, which he will fully develop in the future.
I'm very happy watching this video! I'm living in Reading 3 years now and I didn't know that one of my favourite bands performed in Reading festival in 1979! Reading still rocks!!
You have to play this song on the next tour!
Best Band Ever!!! great night with this melodies :D

Scorpions and Slaughter , my top two favorite bands. Excellence like no other . This kind of dedication never dies . Perfection everlasting. Play it loud .🎼
Amo demais Scorpions...
Klaus 🔥
Scorpion playing true rock n roll with guitars improvisation at the end and without samplers! Cool!
Wow!!! Old school Mathias Jabs!!!
Scorpions Rules
Mathias with the White Explorer guitar looks exactly like the way he sounds.
Difference between Uli and Matt is when Uli plays they sounds like uli is a mainstream of the band but when Matthias Plays they more sounds solid and you can really think that they are a Band!!!!
Got to meet them an took a picture with them hung out for about 45 min still got the pic so cool my new German friends
Saw them once in India legendary band scorpions forever
classic scorpions 1973 till 1976 hits is uli roth .morevids to see

The bass guitar was havier than today. Not because the acctually player, but seems to be a direction of the band
Mathias Jabs awesome
Wow masterclass performance
yeeeees
Attractive Guitarist Matthias Jabs.. My favorite..
WOWOW. Thanks Scorps for uploading this gem.
One of the first Scorpions songs I heard and I will always adore the unmatched chorus
great early Mathias footage!
While I'm generally a fan of Matthias' playing and think he's an amazing player, he clearly struggles with the Uli stuff. Not even that, I just saw footage from last year's Rock in Rio and I just absolutely flat out hate the way he plays the Uli Roth material to this day. Kind of seems way uninspired for some reason. I bet he could do so much better if he put more effort into it.
@Batphink Reynolds Yes! Exactly what I'm talking about! He does have the chops to play most of Uli's licks and he shows that there. Obviously he put time and energy into properly learning this song.
@@durbodill yeah he sounds like he doesnt have a handle on this one yet. He`s brand new here. Maybe just a little green ..or nervous. I can hear it in his vibrato. i`m just glad to see earlier footage with him. I heard a version of this tune from about 10 years ago where he really seemed to be embracing it rather than just getting through it. I checked out Backstage Queen from this same show that you and the other dude mentioned. I agree completely that he nailed that solo. It`s kinda similar to his style where the others are not so much. The dude is such a pretty boy that woman have probably been a huge distraction in him becoming a guitar genius like Uli. He still found his niche and has his own sound. A very American sounding guitarist. No wonder they got so big here in the US with him. Looks and talent.
@@durbodill
So true. Uli made that band. No comparison. Taken By Force

No way not even close
Stunning voice, classic rock track
I like it with two Gibsons not saying it’s better but I like it

Lindooooo! D+!......

Michael Schenker 1979 live Scorps bootleg absolutely nails all of Uli's parts perfectly
