I met Uli in 2016 and asked him about Fly To the Rainbow and asked if he still had this Firebird (he said he didn't). At this point the Scorpions were essentially Dawn Road (Uli's early band) with Rudolf and Klaus joining them...they took the Scorpions name due to the fact that the Scorpions had built a bigger following and already had an album released at that point. Uli said the Fly to the Rainbow album is musically much closer to what Dawn Road was doing than any other album they recorded. He said he brought quite a bit of the Dawn Road material into the band and some of those songs morphed into Scorpions songs. He said that he really sees In Trance as the first True Scorpions album and they solidified their sound with that record. I told him that Drifting Sun was my favorite song on Fly to the Rainbow and he said he hears a lot of people say that to him and he really had no idea so many people connected with that song. He also said he couldn't stand the song Robot Man from In Trance haha. He was such a genuinely nice person and of course just a massive talent.
Cool stuff Joe. I actually met Uli back in 2004 when he played the Majestic Theatre in Ventura, California. He was the "Opening Act" for Michael Schenker, who I didn't come to see. Never saw Uli with the SCORPIONS (would have loved to), but did see the SCORPS in the mid 1970's at a little club outside Chicago. Uli had just left and they had Jabs. The ticket was $4, and the club only held maybe 300 people. The band was still great though. I know Uli left due to the commercial trend the band was going, and so glad he did. His solo stuff has been brilliant! I also found him to be a genuinely nice guy without any pretense, considering the talent there. The last of my Musical heroes still alive ; (
Jurgen the drummer is a beast. Uli had a taste for solos like no other. Klaus is the most underrated vocalist in rock history. Rudolf Schenker is a brilliant composer. What a band!!!
Love this track and the FTTR album! So cool to see Uli playing a 1960s vintage Gibson Firebird III too! To think he was only 19 at the time, amazing!! I just saw him tonight at a small venue in Ohio and he was incredible! He'll be 70 this year and he's still got it! The 2nd half of the set was mostly all 70s Uli era Scorpions..... Heavenly!
Uli Jon Roth at 19 years old LIVE on GERMAN TV , before attaining worldwide fame. Uli has only gotten better with age! How could 18 people not like this? Must be Barry Manilow fans
The Scores were nothing more than an eighties political run of the mill hard rock band without Uli playing lead. I would have liked to see them play more songs with Jurgen. He sounded a lot like Mitch Mitchell to me. I guess he was drafted by the German army. Don't know why he didn't return after they kicked Herman out.
From Fly to the Rainbow. one of the two best tracks on that album, other being Fly People Fly. Makes me want to indulge in some "organic mood altering substances" and crank it way up. I may not always listen to Scorpions, but when I do, so do the neighbours.
Jurgen and Francis! What a rhythm core! Very busy, but innovative and they fill it up. Awesome to see this live clip of them live back then. Thanks so much for sharing this! Uli was head and shoulders above all guitarists of the time.
Uli is one of my favorite guitarists of all time. What an awesome live track from their early days. I still listen to early scorpions on a regular basis. Going to catch them on their latest tour with Whitesnake although I’m guessing they won’t play much if anything from the early days.
Wow, love every time a new gem from way back scorpions is added. Fan since 1980... sadly first time seeing them will be in Vegas April 2022, make it if u can everyone. I got front row seats, they have meet and greet too but its spendy. I still appreciate all footage being added to youtube. Check out the Swiss footage recently added to youtube, it blew my mind :) We all love Uli, Mattis and all of them :)
A great early scorps tune, with one of my absolute favorite guitar solos of all time. Incredibly clearly for a live shoot of > 35 years past, and with good audio! Thanks for posting this gem.

I bought "Fly To The Rainbow" after a German friend recommended it to me. I liked "Speedy's Coming" and "They Need A Million". The later was sung by Rudolf Schenker. He has a very good voice, he should have sung more songs. The remainder of the songs were good to.
Nice one. You nailed it. When we were teenagers in the 80s the existence of footage like this was just rumor and, once in a blue moon, late night TV. So amazing to actually see this stuff.
One of the best Scorpins´s song. And yes, I think if Jurgen Rosenthal had been continued in the band the sound of Scorpions would be diferente, maybe better cause he is very technical drummer. Herman Rarebell is good but Rosenthal is incredible.
Great drummer!!! Scorpions in the 70s was a masterpiece.
**********
Jurgen Rosenthal. Em seguida ele estaria no grande Eloy,
They still are
Jurgen Rosenthal... they only had him for this album (Fly to the Rainbow.)
Bassist is killing it too!
There really is no denying Ulrich Roth captures that Hendrix sound in that solo, and makes it his own...love the early Scorps.
Ladies and gentlemen The greatest guitar player that ever lived... Uli Roth...

dawn road!
I love robot man
Jurgen the drummer is a beast. Uli had a taste for solos like no other. Klaus is the most underrated vocalist in rock history. Rudolf Schenker is a brilliant composer. What a band!!!
Excellent perspective, I agree with all of it! Rock on!🤘
@@acebrockton1828 I agree with both of you!!! 😃 Jürgen Rosenthal was an excellent drummer!!! Also in Eloy.
Klaus is not only underrated , he is one of the best to ever do it !!!
What is a writer! Not bad.
Juergen Rosenthal, the drummer, was outstanding at this point.
awesome orthodox drummer
my favorite Scorpions drummer
I think he ended up in Eloy?
@@atlasking6110 Yup, wrote the entire lyrics to their album, Ocean, as well.
@@atlasking6110 ... YES !

Perhaps the best drummer Scorpions ever had
73 Rudolf on a flying V and Uli on a Firebird. Super cool. What a f in drummer wow.
Uli Jon Roth at 19 years old LIVE on GERMAN TV , before attaining worldwide fame. Uli has only gotten better with age! How could 18 people not like this? Must be Barry Manilow fans
Grew up on British metal, but as soon as I discovered Schenker n the Scorpions a whole new world opened up!
Same here!!!
Uli Jon Roth playing a Gibson Firebird - Rare footage!
My thought exactly. SC br pu mod, no less ! Screamed.
Forget that, That bass dude plays it like a lead guitarist!
@Mars Townshend he is not Francis. He joined the band on 1974
That's the Scorpions I grew up listening to...
Uli Jon Roth the master!!! Jurgen great drummer.
Fantastic drumming from Jurgen Rosenthal!!!
Uli Jon Roth is genius!!! Melts my soul!🔥🎸🖤❗️
Uli Roth was 19 years old when this was taped and he was already the greatest rock guitarist ever. And Jurgen Rosenthal is a SAVAGE!
The best drummer they ever had! Of course, the whole line up is outstanding!
Jurgen Rosenthal one of the best drummers in the world !
Of course
Ngl Scorps have been blessed when it comes to drummers lol. Jurgen and Herman were just so good
From Fly to the Rainbow. one of the two best tracks on that album, other being Fly People Fly. Makes me want to indulge in some "organic mood altering substances" and crank it way up. I may not always listen to Scorpions, but when I do, so do the neighbours.
for me it's this and Far Away, but there's really not a bad song on that album!
This drummer reminds me of Neil Peart from Rush. Very similar style playing. Extremely technical and precise.
I was only 12; just saw them in Las Vegas (for about the 8th time). Klaus is getting old, but Rudolf still had some vitality.
The drumming in this music is fantastic!!!!
The best drummer they ever had.
@@johnhendren2614 they now have Mikkey, who is a close call to Jurgen :)
Rosenthal is killing those drums.
One of the most distinct rock and roll singers. How can he sing and still keep a recognizeable German accent? Incredible talent!
...JURGEN ROSENTHAL...eloy..ocean..1977.masterpiece
Uli has to be in my top 5 of greatest guitar players of all time.
Scorpions drive on straight ahead rock and roll, Uli on guitars, and Klaus' vocals. All superb.
Uli is One of the most underrated Guitarist ever. Awesome jam. I wish they would tour , With nothing but the old stuff
Holy sheet. My first ever hearing and listening of this work. Incredible and intriguing at same time. Love this.
The album that has this song is amazing, "Fly To The Rainbow" released in 1974.
You're great in AC⚡️DC
this is my first time listening to this song 🕷
Jurgen Rosenthal... my hero!!! amazing!!
Love scorpions early days.
It was great Scorpions, before 79...after so commercial..
The rhymic pulst of this song is mind blowing
Great voice ! I regret not to be born at this period.
That's the real and truth scorpions
Jurgen and Francis! What a rhythm core! Very busy, but innovative and they fill it up. Awesome to see this live clip of them live back then. Thanks so much for sharing this! Uli was head and shoulders above all guitarists of the time.
Jurgen Rosenthal and Ulrich Roth. Man what a line up. After this album Jurgen joined Eloy. Another great German prog band
those were the good times without autotune etc. :) music with soul....
Impresionante pieza progresiva, me impresiona cómo Scorpions son tan viejos, tan longevos y tan presentes, no cualquier banda vive tanto tiempo
Uli is one of my favorite guitarists of all time. What an awesome live track from their early days. I still listen to early scorpions on a regular basis. Going to catch them on their latest tour with Whitesnake although I’m guessing they won’t play much if anything from the early days.
the drummer shines!
Best scorpions 🦂❤ lineup....
Jurgen Rosenthal - Fly to the Rainbow, then he was gone...
1:17 The influence of Hendrix is so obvious here.
Guitarist's "puppy dog" eyes, now THAT'S priceless....
uli roth and jurgen rosenthal are by far the best musicians in this band
0:56 - 1:04
Rosenthal is awesome!
Yes
Uli playing a Firebird - nice! And look at Klaus trying to prance around like Paul Rodgers.

I can't believe what the people say
There's only hate everywhere
So many people go different ways
So many things don't you care
They see nobody, they see themselves
But a stage like in a show
They see the hell, and they need your help
They need your help, they need love, love
This is my song
I tell you about the story of love
This is my song
I tell you about the story of love
This is my song
I tell you about the story of love
This is my song
I tell you about the story of love
I think I need you, you need me too
The place where we live is here
The world is griping what can I do
For you and you everywhere
I sing this song 'bout the world of love
And hope you hear what I say
Forever freedom, forever love
Forever love everyday
Klaus is so thin and has lots of hair :)
Almost forty years later they are still rockin.
Klaus is even thinner today.
Uli roth!
Wonderful wonderful song... Scorpions was phenomenal in the first half of the seventies... my favourites for a long time, until 1981...
Fantastic uli roth
UFFF. WOW BIG SONG. BEAUTIFUL PIECE😌
holy f*ck! the drummer is killing it!
SCORPIONS WILL SOUND DIFFERENT THIS DAYS IF ULI ROTH STILL WITH THEM WITH HIS GUITAR SOLOS.

Excellent just fucking excellent
thanks for sharing. I listen to these early scorpions recordings almost daily and it's a treat to see it live.
One of the LP in my life
SUPER:) The Best Scorpions:)
Why? Why the first Scorpions live performance had to be cut? But I like this video. It perfectly shows very talented drummer called Jurgen Rosenthal.
Jürgen is a beast
