Mark: "I'm not about making money, I just love making pizza", Also Mark, $28 for a cheese pizza at his place. You can get 4 pizzas at dominos with 2 toppings each for the price of one of his cheese pizzas. The chains exist because there are plenty of people in NYC who can't spend $28 on a cheese pizza
@@kincade6715 It's on their site. They have a deal where you can order a fairly wide variety of items at $5.99/each (pickup) and $6.99/each (delivered); two items minimum.
That's the thing tho, places like dominos, little Caesars, and Pizza Hut are cheap because they use cheap ingredients and make more money off off people buying more than one thing. Small places like Lucali's use better ingredients and only have a couple of things on the menu, so of course it's going to be more expensive than the chains.
@@emanuelramirez9132 bro its pizza, cheese and dough are dirt cheap. i agree toppings are higher quality at the independent stores but $28 is a ridiculous mark up.
Zume seems too focused on is being 'distruptive' in the industry, rather than quality... You know they would fire those low-paid human workers if they could figure out a robot to evenly add fucking cheese in a circle.
feel sorry for those workers in the zume kitchen 'hey guys you guys are out of a job in three weeks but thats ok my fav robot bruno is taking over, arent you guys excited!!'
That's besides the point during the early stages. They have raised 48 million dollars to date, so they can survive to a while. The bigger danger are their investors pushing them to scale too early.
I agree. They arn't getting half the orders to fill those ovens per trip. Not to mention you need to employ a software and hardware tech to deliver the shit. lmao. This only makes sense in the bizarro-world of the Silicon Valley were your shareholders/investors are your best friends and just as deluded as you are.
For a while, they had the trucks parked in Palo Alto and were driving the pizzas like normal delivery, just closer. Like many silicon valley companies, they were trying to fake it until they could make it
"It's not about making money, it's about making pizza..." I was shocked you did this challenge. I was not surprised at the results...The best pizza is made by hand by a neighborhood pizza....Robots making pizza? Sure. Robots making great pizza? I don't think so...
I had a pizzeria with my brother in a college town. Everything fresh, done right, with a recipe from the original owner of the pizzeria in the spot we had, decades old. Dining room packed every weekend, fairly busy most nights. Our pizza was a little less expensive than the chains, and we delivered in a 15 mile radius. I eventually left, and my brother had to close. Even the guy down the street who had been there for over 30 years eventually closed, he was the most popular place in town, he'd have a line down the block when the bars closed. As I drove through town last, Domino's and Papa John's delivery cars all over the place. Applebee's and Chili's were always packed to the gills. I guess people go for what's familiar instead of what's better.
old comment but as somebody from NJ lemme tell you, a lot of people outside the pizza strongholds just cant tell the difference between pizza and good pizza. Its the privlege of having so many great places in a small area that lets u appreciate the factors in it. College kids on a budget probably saw your pizza and only knew generic trattorias and dominos and didnt want to spend a higher amount on something that might be better
Jesus man. I have only started watching this series today and im already hoked. Pizza is my soul, it is my being. Why was this not a mainstream show. Za is my deal Nice job
The Zume Pizza is so hilarious, why put so much money in IT-Specialists, Robot Gear etc. for steps normal employees would do better and cheaper. And the pizza is not cooked while beeing delievered, only warmed up. Soulless food!
Normal employees wouldn't necessarily be cheaper in the long run. Machines like that would only need upkeep so often, or if they break. Otherwise the cost is probably just electricity.
I do pizza consulting and advise against full automation, I'm hoping customers care enough to avoid places that embrace robots over people. You can't replace the love and care real humans put into food. Robots are for the fast food chains who don't give AF.
As a pizza lover myself I've come to realize that all my life I've never had a legit "REAL" Pizza its always been pizza hut or a chain of some sorts. And i wanna get laced up by one of these pizza gods. No bullshit. Teach me pls !!!!!!!!!
What artistry? they'd be replacing other non-artisan pizza places like shitty Domino's...and I hope that they do, being that the pizza will end up being cheaper
Then you also shouldn't support a company that puts people out of work trying to replace the artistry of spinning and weaving . Oh wait , you do! What you're thinking is exactly what people thought during the industrial revolution
@@internetman1213 yeah its a cool concept but i dont ever see this going nation wide. Either itll fizzle out never to be heard from again or itll be like In-n-out burgers and be exclusive on the west coast. Nothing can replace good old fashioned hand made pizzas. Even the ones made in fire or coal ovens are notorious for being better than ones made in electric ovens. It just seems that the oldest way is the best way
AJ Fisher true, I’ve been watching this show for a while now and like most things that isn’t the only side of pizza. Pizza has almost become a medium to express through, whether it’s through wacky culinary adventures, the passion for the art, remembrance/family, I don’t think saying x or y is a complete disgrace is doing x or y any justice. It’s like the whole Hawaiian pizza or Chicago pizza debate; there’s a time a place for it.
No, b/c it was so corporate and full of people who are trying to commercialize and flatten pizza rather than focus on integrity and passion. Those three legends in the beginning ate Fing Dominos for Gd's sake!
Hm...sure, I too am more in favor of those values you brought up, of course. However, I'll say: as long as they don't pick up a sponsorship from any of those big players, we're good. Whether we like it or not, it's a developing industry and all of this is reality. Why deny it? As I said, the focus on tradition, integrity and passion is in *all* the other episodes. I simply don't think of this one as "sad" and I'm sure it's gonna be a one-off anyway.
That is fair. But I will continue to believe that this will be pretty much the saddest episode ever. You could just tell Pinello was doing this as a courtesy and not like he wanted to do it. I mean he literally sold out to Mr. Pizza and was definitely not cool with making a shitty sweet potato crust pie. // As an aside, I have had Mr. Pizza many times in SK and it is by far the worst pizza I have ever had. Like the video said, it is like having dessert and pizza in the same bite, effing terrible dog food.
Agreed. It's inevitable that the majority of the prepared food industry will incorporate robotics in the future... technology doesn't just stop lol. Unfortunately, my generation is so ass backwards, everything is about ''NOW''... I want this NOW, I want that NOW. Pretty soon we won't even have to open our mouths to communicate with people because that takes too much effort. Eventually, the entire country will operate like silicone valley... where tech is the be all end all. It's sad, but it's going to happen.
1 thing I don't understand is how the dough doesn't rip. it's so thin but yet they manage to thrown and flip it and stuf without making even a little hole. just incredible!
Watching the earlier episodes which are filled with passion of pizza the robots were really a put off, it's like handing a paint brush to a painter, no wonder they diversified
NoobAlike sounds good actually, ill try that out. They guarantee have some toppings like that on the west coast, im in the midwest, kinda traditional with the pizza toppings
I had Papa John's ONCE, it was so bad, never again, I had Domino's a few times but just because it was close, my boss would order it for us. Little Caesar's is not horrible but again I have only had it a few times. I ate Pizza Hut at least once a week as a teen but only because they had arcade games back in the 70s. I finally gave up and learned how to make it at home...as a matter of fact I have ziplocks of dough, tubs of home made sauce and fresh motz in the fridge right now to give as a house warming gift tomorrow. A gas oven and a pizza stone are a must LOL!
@@nonyadamnbusiness2301 Why? As long as machines keep improving it will eventually surpass humans, and they don't seem to be slowing down any time soon.
From one location to the next and delivered same time, say it takes 15 mins to each delivery . You've got 15+ ovens in each foodtruck. @ $10 a pie. Your only at $40/hr. Minus all those expenses ( technologies cost and human labour) Doesnt seem like much,.. the math doesnt seem to add up.

You can get 4 pizzas at dominos with 2 toppings each for the price of one of his cheese pizzas. The chains exist because there are plenty of people in NYC who can't spend $28 on a cheese pizza
source?
Quality > Quantity pal..
*"I got some friends come over who love pizza"* LOL
Zume seems too focused on is being 'distruptive' in the industry, rather than quality...
You know they would fire those low-paid human workers if they could figure out a robot to evenly add fucking cheese in a circle.
This channel is so nice to watch. You guys really do a great job. Thanks so much for your time and effort!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
feel sorry for those workers in the zume kitchen
'hey guys you guys are out of a job in three weeks but thats ok my fav robot bruno is taking over, arent you guys excited!!'
nope, they're not out of a job. they're going to set up another facility.
Dade Murphy you don’t understand

@@NineteenEightyFive they're laid off while they hire people closer to the new facility lol
@@jeffreyjewell75 I don't think YOU understand. Humans will always be needed to maintain automation.
zumes business model seems ridiculously unprofitable
pls explain why
X2 explain why.
That's besides the point during the early stages. They have raised 48 million dollars to date, so they can survive to a while. The bigger danger are their investors pushing them to scale too early.
Delivering one pizza in a big truck to one customer??
I agree. They arn't getting half the orders to fill those ovens per trip. Not to mention you need to employ a software and hardware tech to deliver the shit. lmao. This only makes sense in the bizarro-world of the Silicon Valley were your shareholders/investors are your best friends and just as deluded as you are.
The zume pizza girl seems crazy, almost brainwashed
For a while, they had the trucks parked in Palo Alto and were driving the pizzas like normal delivery, just closer. Like many silicon valley companies, they were trying to fake it until they could make it
LOCA 🤪🤪🤪 INDEED!
"It's not about making money, it's about making pizza..." I was shocked you did this challenge. I was not surprised at the results...The best pizza is made by hand by a neighborhood pizza....Robots making pizza? Sure. Robots making great pizza? I don't think so...
food made for profit are very very different from food made out of love.
Hell yeah I had this one pizza from papa John's that was delicious
Well said.
but all food sold through businesses is made for profit
The pizza show is the best thing munchies has produced
@@philstory2556 We were no more or less expensive than Dominoes and had regular specials that beat theirs.
Jesus man. I have only started watching this series today and im already hoked.
Pizza is my soul, it is my being. Why was this not a mainstream show. Za is my deal
Nice job
YAY! Never let this show die! Favourite thing on Munchies at the moment!
The zume pizza idea is really sad :(
Why?
true buna
VC and other Tech SCammers pump over $400 million into it over 4 years and they never had more than 100 employees, It was a scam
But the pizza looks a hell of a lot better than anything from the big four.
RodsCooking that’s bc they where running in the red
The Zume Pizza is so hilarious, why put so much money in IT-Specialists, Robot Gear etc. for steps normal employees would do better and cheaper. And the pizza is not cooked while beeing delievered, only warmed up. Soulless food!
so you didn't see that big ass truck that sole purpose is to drive and cook the pizza at the same time. not warm up and drive, but coom
They only cooked it In the shop because they were ready to drive and cook yet.
Black mirror
Normal employees wouldn't necessarily be cheaper in the long run. Machines like that would only need upkeep so often, or if they break. Otherwise the cost is probably just electricity.
Robots are cheaper than humans in the long run
I do pizza consulting and advise against full automation, I'm hoping customers care enough to avoid places that embrace robots over people. You can't replace the love and care real humans put into food. Robots are for the fast food chains who don't give AF.
As a pizza lover myself I've come to realize that all my life I've never had a legit "REAL" Pizza its always been pizza hut or a chain of some sorts. And i wanna get laced up by one of these pizza gods. No bullshit. Teach me pls !!!!!!!!!
zume - take the soul out of pizza (y)

I wonder how that truck feels on a hot summer day with 56 ovens going in the back!
Zume went belly up in June 2023. My son works for a company that produces robot automation. Learn from failure!
This guy has mad connections in the pizza world
I fuckin love this show, never leave us again
the future we saw in Wall-E is slowly coming true.
so sad
MrBobobo94 not just food but construction too will one day be robots
I'd prefer death tbh
Zume laid of 53% off its staff and became a product centre a while back, the terrible idea just didnt work 🙃
Seeing all these family owned, pure pizzerias and then seeing Zume robots, it bummed me out.
I am finally watching this show while eating pizza!
This is one of the best shows Munchies has ever produced.
when all the pizza-place owners were in the same room eating the pizza it reminded me of some sort of italian mob scene.
Zume Pizza shut down in June 2023.

I wouldn't support a company that puts people out of work trying to replace the artistry of pizza making.
What artistry? they'd be replacing other non-artisan pizza places like shitty Domino's...and I hope that they do, being that the pizza will end up being cheaper
Adapt or be left behind. Thats life.
But when it's fast food like the top 4, does artistry really matter to them?
Exactly
Then you also shouldn't support a company that puts people out of work trying to replace the artistry of spinning and weaving . Oh wait , you do! What you're thinking is exactly what people thought during the industrial revolution
"what is zume pizza?"
a disgrace to pizza everywhere
AJ Fisher why?
@@internetman1213 it still fast food pizza just like dominoes or pizza hut; just made fancier
AJ Fisher true, but step in the right direction. Heard and read some bad things about the company’s QC
"I eat out pizza every day and I have lost 20 lbs!" Our pizza is so bad I avoid eating it all costs despite saying I do.
LMAOOOOO 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Pizza is simplicity... with all those toppings that's more like a focaccia with pizza dough
I really hate the Zume concept, particularly the people behind it!
Brian R these are cali silicon valley nerds
PotatoLad Gaming hahaha greatest comment of all time
The saddest episode of The Pizza Show. Ever. // But that robot was cool tho.
'Cause it fails to dwell on traditionalism ONCE?? Come on!
The pepperoni pizza in the intro looks like the best pizza I have ever seen and also I love the little into song thing
Dude, next time you’re in the Bay Area... Hit up Arinell’s in Berkeley! The only true NY pizza there! Served by sweet

Mrcheesydancer Gluten
Mrcheesydancer Thought that too when I was making Pizza for the first time, but if you do the dough right it won't rip that easy.

A pizza company with just as many engineers as cooks. Sounds sustainable.
10:40 I like that he wasn't snooty about wearing a uniform of the "dark side"

From one location to the next and delivered same time, say it takes 15 mins to each delivery . You've got 15+ ovens in each foodtruck. @ $10 a pie. Your only at $40/hr.
Minus all those expenses ( technologies cost and human labour)
Doesnt seem like much,.. the math doesnt seem to add up.
