Watching this show upsets me a great deal because I feel the way about pizza that Frank and all these historic people do, but in the UK the pizza culture is so vastly different. It's beautiful downtown, it has always had great spots tbh. There is a lot of money going into some of the higher traffic neighborhoods. That brings a lot of good. Sadly, Detroit is huge and many POC live outside those areas and see minimal benefit from the money happening in Midtown and some other neighborhoods. Still, as a guy who has been around the country to dozens of cool cities, Detroit is right up there.

Honestly it just shows why frank makes such good pizza. He doesn’t think he’s the best, he always tries to get better and takes everything in respectfully from all the different chefs.
Native Detroiter my entire life and I gotta say that Buddy's is the tops here as far as I'm concerned. Also love how he stopped into Lafayette to grab a coney in the beginning; nice shout out to another historic staple of Detroit. This was very well done.
The owners and managers are patient and love being visited and asked historical questions about their pizzerias. They don’t seem rushed they seem at ease and enjoy company.

He knew damn well a prosciutto & fresh mozz pie with arugula salad on top would never get picked up.
The square pan owes it's roots to the Detroit auto industry. Back in the heyday of assembly lines such pans were used to contain small parts which would be used in the production of vehicles. Workers would often take these pans home where they would find their way into the kitchen as baking pans. Before long local pizza restaurants adopted the habit, and as they say the rest is history. Humble greatness, not unlike the city of its origin. I never thought knowledge of this fact would be useful, gotta love PBS.

Me neither. I grew up on Buddy's and Jett's and the last few years I started seeing "Detroit-style" being used to describe pizza w/out having a clue what people were talking about.
I wasn't aware that Detroit had it's own pizza style either but I always heard they had some killer chili dogs. I'm not from Detroit but I've been there many times for hockey & the auto show. From the Lansing area.
Frank looks like a genuinely nice, good hearted, humble guy. I love the way he approaches the vast topic of pizza-making culture and the people involved with it, makes for a particularly enjoyable and interesting show. May he create content like that into eternity.
I'm in the UK and last year one of our supermarkets started selling "Detroit style" pizzas and I was really interested to know just how "Detroit" they really were. They don't get the really awesome caremelisation around the edges but I can kind of see where the vibe that they ended up with came from. I definitely want to try the real deal now I've seen this!
As a local, seeing you start out with a Lafayette Coney and a Vernors, instantly knew this was gonna be a solid video. Respect brotha!! That's how you fvcking do it.

Love this series, and Frank is amazing host! He does well at giving history of the places, then allowing those places owners/creators to tell their stories!
I can't get over the fact that Frank is such a relaxed and very good host. I would watch this for hours if it was there. Please reboot this and make it big again! Go worldwide because there is a lot of variations on pizza like dishes. They say every culture has something that resembles a Pizza!

That’s exactly what I said LOL
the more you know 🌈🌟
It is basically a Sicilian inspired type pizza. They have the rectangle pizzas, which immigrants brought over to the US.
this show is legit, host is excellent . glad to have discovered it,
As a Chicagoan that has lived in metro detroit and now the northeast, Detroit is the MOST UNDERRATED pizza by far.
Frank Pinello is the reason I made my very first pizza. Dough and everything.
You won't be disappointed!
Detroit style pizza is the real deal. Perfect blend, great episode!
anyone gets the feeling that between episodes Frank is at the Gym trying to work off last episode feast?
grennysohail 😂
what feast? dude takes one bit out of each slice.
As a local, seeing you start out with a Lafayette Coney and a Vernors, instantly knew this was gonna be a solid video. Respect brotha!! That's how you fvcking do it.
Detroit looks lit.
themrjones it is for sure. Especially a night out on the town, mid-town and downtown are great.
Detroit is lit af bro
ain't no party like a Detroit party, cuz a Detroit party don't quit!
Ya damn right we are
themrjones we’re definitely lit, cause we’re Detroit we never ever quit
Thanks for coming here! Not just ruin porn shots, not just gentrified areas, a nice mix of what it's really like. Detroit pizza is the best.
windsor is better ;)
Basfoo windsor is trash
Windsor is trash and the only thing saving Detroit IS gentrification. Its definitely not the liberal government. The pizza is great though.
Windsor sucks buddy , Canada is garbage
Visited detroit once for work. The city is beautiful gets a bad wrap for no reason. The downtown area is great.
Greek town is awsome reminds me of some places in nashville and in Milwaukee
Thank you Frank, you're the man! Detroit will always embrace people who want to learn more about our food culture!
I used to work in Detroit and it was really Dearborn and there was a Paisano's Pizza they had a round rotating pizza oven they had the best Detroit deep dish ever I've given him a shout out I wish I could remember what road it was on Southfield maybe oh my God Detroit Pizza is killer
Frank seems super genuine and down to earth. Just a guy showing interest in whoever he’s meeting with. All hosts should be more like him.
This show is quality
Love this series, and Frank is amazing host! He does well at giving history of the places, then allowing those places owners/creators to tell their stories!
I can't get over the fact that Frank is such a relaxed and very good host. I would watch this for hours if it was there. Please reboot this and make it big again! Go worldwide because there is a lot of variations on pizza like dishes. They say every culture has something that resembles a Pizza!
Frank is a real gentlemen . He is an old soul and has alot of class love watching his shows he deserves his own show on netflix
super likeable
11:29 _I'm corner guy too_
BTW, all of these #Pizzeria are calm, all lookin humble guys.
God bless you guys, for brings Heaven Food to Earth.
💐😊❤️
Been going to Loui's since I was a kid. Over 40 years.
more of this forever
I second this!
The pizza show best on the munchies channel 👌👍
I love how Frank is humble and respectful. He wasn't trying to stir up drama between the different spots, just appreciate them for what they are.
I questioned the lil ceaser deep dish at 1st but now it's one of my favorites. Love it
Frank is that dude that can chill with anyone.
I'm homesick. Worked in downtown Detroit for many years and Lafayette Coney Island has the best chili dog! Buddy's Pizza is phenomenal, it doesn't get any better than Buddy's.
Wow, that was the best culinary exploration show on Detroit I have ever watched, and I have watched most of them. Thank you. You really highlighted some of the beautiful aspects about the food, history and people in Detroit. Great video.
Frank, Love this show, you are a great host, you bring style to the world of pizza. 🍕
Larry from D'Mongo's is one of those guys who's always happy to meet and talk to everybody. I was in his restaurant once, and the dude approached me like I was his best friend, having never met him before.
the one thing i love about this show even more than the food is the people
When Mr Mongo offered to buy a drink, I said yes. Haha. I was so in to this episode, in general. Great stuff!
Frank, you are great and love how kind and personable you are. I am from Michigan and love you went to Detroit to showcase the pizza.
Gotta love him shouting out the coney in the beginning! Detroit sh*t
Tony Savath For real, you cannot do a food show in Detroit without slipping Coney in!
es333000 Every time I visit home I always stop by Embassy coney on Gratiot and Fairmount to cure my hangover lol
Cincinnati better
First 5 minutes out of my car I asked random on the street where do I go for great food. He said holler at his man at the coney dog stand on the corner 😂 it was good tho I won't lie
@Trelise' Avery-Moore It only works if it's on a corner (Saying X AND Y means where 2 streets intersect). Anywhere else, we say 10 Sesame Street just like you lol.
