I really loved the backstories for the villagers in FOMT. One lost their wife and child to an unfortunate accident, another struggles with his family, one seems very lonely with her daughter being gone and her drunk husband, one is in love with another villager but can't have her because she's already married, etc. It really fleshed out the characters and made them feel more "real" instead of being generic background characters.
Yeah, in FoMT I feel like all of the villagers have deep backgrounds that you slowly discover by befriending them! Hopefully future games also have deeper dialogue and stories.
That's why I really wished they would've kept or atleast modified the rival events. The stories in between the different characters were so interesting and if I wasn't going to marry them anyway, I found myself rooting for them. But for the villagers, Mai's story was my favorite even though it was so sad. I kept hoping her mom would come back
The acronym for Pioneers of Olive Town being POOT cracked me up and made me think of Poot Lovato 😭 For my personal tastes, Friends of Mineral Town is my favorite. I have a really warm special feeling when I play it. I do wish that the sprite art was closer to the original artwork but I loved the 3D Modeling and atmosphere. The map felt like the perfect size. I do agree the after marriage life could be improved though.
I think a Wonderful Life will be a big contender for me though - I am waiting for the English version! It’s not that I didn’t enjoy POOT because I did, but it was a bit too large/ambitious for me. With no sprites to help with the livestock and my millions of makers, plus all of the trash that showed up spanning massive areas daily, it just killed the experience for me long term
Yeah, PoOT is not the best acronym, haha. SoS! PoOT! I made this video because I personally feel like each game has its strengths and weaknesses. I love the map in FoMT! There are so many different places to go to... PoOT is horrible map wise, haha. A single area for the farm and a single area for the town? No foraging or ANYTHING outside the farm? Who approved that? Also, thank you for commenting on so many of my videos! I appreciate your support.
Thanks! I know everyone has different tastes so I thought a video like this might be helpful. Also, I think its interesting how these three games do so many things differently!
For me, HM AWL is the best HM ever made. I'm playing SOS AWL right now and yeah it is so fun to play and so nostalgic as well. But a couple of things that made the original feel real have already been taken out on this remake such as "animal's death". It makes the remake quite easier and less complex.
That's an interesting take. I haven't heard many people say that AWL is the best HM game. The majority seem to think Animal Parade is the best HM ever made. I'm looking forward to trying AWL when it comes out.
@@fahri3810 I definitely will. AWL is one of the only HM games I missed out on growing up, since back then I could never find it anywhere, and later as more HM games were released, it was just kind of pushed to the back of my mind to the point where I forgot it was even a thing for years until recently.
@@marksamson4173 It's actually one of the worst Harvest Moon games, and is pretty archaic with how the mechanics have advanced since then, but it definitely has it's fans. The aging system is unique to the series, at least. I'd say give it a try and form your own opinion. I'll also be getting the SoS version just to see if it's improved any and if it feels better to play than it did back then.
Mineral town will always be my favorite. I started playing harvest moon on Nintendo 64 and the characters are very similar and I really love the graphics in mineral town it gives me such a nostalgic vibe.
I never got Pioneers. It felt like a modern Harvest Moon game to me, and still does. I don't regret my non-purchase. On the other hand, FoMT and AWL are phenomenal.
As an OG player of the Harvest Moon series (HM BTN was my childhood *S/O to Popuri), I started playing the original BTN & AWL on PS5 about a week ago. I peeped that they made remakes & then saw PoOT, but noticed that many ppl didn't appreciate it. I haven't played a newer title since A New Beginning, but decided to give PoOT a try & I thoroughly enjoy it! Things are always up to one's preference, that's why I say try things for yourself & see, before passing your final judgment on it.
I don’t think PoOT is as bad as some people make it out to be… BUT there are a lot of small things that I wish they had done a bit differently. I do love parts of Olive Town though. Leveling up your skills and expanding your farm is a lot of fun!
you can put the egg in the incubator in PoOT you just need to upgrade your chicken coop. And in MT you can give cooking food to the goddess and if you finish her wishlist you will be rewarded too and also you can sell your dishes to the merchant man at the beach for pretty good price
What isn’t mentioned is that both chickens and other livestock in Pioneers of Olive town are tied to the skill level similar to farming. At around level three of that skill you unlock breeding. There still isn’t an incubator but you can have as many barns as you want and the largest barn holds 10 animals each, and one pregnant animal each. Breeding is free and also has a purpose, as the animals have generations and higher generations give higher value products. On random days (increasing the higher your skill level is) animals have a chance to give you extra products. All skills in Pioneers of Olive town have benefits to leveling those skills up (which includes fishing as well but haven’t explored that one as much).
This video was amazing ❤ I haven’t played these yet but played the originals as a kid this was super informative! I think pioneers of olive town looks really fun I’ll check it out
I was originally only planning to get Mineral Town because it's so cute and it's really similar to Harvest Moon 64, but then Pioneers of Olive Town went on sale and it wasn't that expensive to begin with, so I couldn't resist lol. I haven't played it yet because now I'm focused on playing FoMT. I think I might also get A Wonderful Life later on. I actually like that the rival marriages on FoMT aren't happening anymore because I don't want to be in a rush. I'm actually trying to get a red heart with every single marriage candidate before I decide to marry one of them lol
Thank you so much for a great video. I'm choosing between AWL and POOT next as I already have the other and you've helped me conclude it'll be AWL for me. Nostalgia all the way too. If the other is ever super cheap, I'll be in.
I really like this Analysis and Raking style of video. I think it's interesting for farming because of the sprites you like FOMT the least but also for animals you like FOMT the most cause of sprites. I know giving them all gifts is tedious but I remember having a file with them all maxed out. I could spend the whole day just mining cause they can do more than just water they can also take care of animals ect. Having the farm be completely automated was such a stress relief. Though I am curious as to how many hours I played before getting to that point lol It was probably a lot. WAIT A DAMN SECOND CAPYBARAS!!!!! YOU CAN HAVE CAPYBARAS 😭. While I don't mind the Chibi style for FOMT I am very glad they didn't reuse that style for PoOT and AWL.
Maybe it’s strange, but I feel stressed when the sprites help me with my crops, because I have to plan out which crops I’ll plant, which days they will be ready to harvest, which days I’ll need the sprites to do certain tasks, etc. It’s hectic. Animals? Animals you could just have them take care of them and you don’t really have to think about it - the animals will always need to be taken care of. Honestly maybe I’m just overthinking the whole thing though, haha. But yeah, FoMT has some cute animals! They should be easier to obtain though because who is gonna find them without looking up online how to get them?
@@elithegaymer It's cool they offer different options though cause everyone plays games a bit different I am generally a completest so even if I hated the sprites I'd end up maxing them out anyway lol
Olive town was my favourite, as I liked the customisation, creating my character and decorating my farm. I also liked being able to marry Raegar who was my favourite bachelor in the series. Although the game did a terrible job with the animal and festival part.
I really liked Olive Town, BUT it’s the only game I’ve ever played that I felt like the game was laughing at me for expecting more. “Attend the egg festival and search for Easter eggs!” Just kidding, it’s only a cutscene! “Choose the redesign of the museum!” Just kidding, she already decided and doesn’t listen to you. “Choose a mascot for the village!” Gotcha again! I do love parts of it, but I feel like it could have been so much better too.
I just got olive town,( I've only played this and the 64 game) but I like it. But I hate the crafting machines, they take so long and it's so tedious & annoying. Is Friends of mineral town like this?
@@elithegaymer thank you for replying. Seems like I will get one of those next, after I play this one. Glad I just found your channel, it's very helpful. You got a new subscriber. Thank you!
@@AlexxPokemonnTrainer Makers in other games are MUCH better. You just put things in and the item pops out immediately (mostly). Also, there are very few makers and those that do exist have a set place on the farm (like a mayonnaise maker in the chicken coop). All three of these games are very different, so if one isn’t to your liking, you might enjoy another game more. Thanks for subscribing!
I think that I’m in a very small minority since Pioneers of Olive Town was my first farming game ever. I got it after becoming burned out of Animal Crossing since it seemed to have similar features such as crafting and decorating. I personally love POOT and have over 70 hours so far. I preordered A Wonderful Life and I am very excited for it. However, I recently got Mineral Town and I find it’s very stressful honestly. The mines are so tedious and it takes me forever to water my crops. I know I can get sprites to help with my farm but befriending them and giving them gifts also takes up so much time imo.
that is exactly how i got into Olive Town. I actually REALLY enjoy it and i've played it several times I am really enjoying AWL but mineral town stressed me out as well lol
I play harvest moon/story of seasons games since HM64, and I think POOT has better mechanics compared to classic harvest moon. But characters and story could be more engaging.
I loved FoMT But the remake just felt like it lost so much of its magic. A wonderful life has been SO freaking enjoyable. I'm so impressed the lighting. The small town feel, the shorter months. I love it dearly.
The one I care for is certainly Mineral Town! The 3D models were what ultimately sold it for me. The dialogue problem in POT is very similar to the dialogue problem in ACNH. That makes two developers who should've gone back to their roots and tried something else when what they first came up with didn't work (or vice versa).
I think the dialogue in ACNH is ok, but I think they need to revamp the two "mean but not mean" character types (grumpy and snobby). They have lost their personalities since Nintendo doesn't want them to be mean anymore, haha.
I dunno if is about nostalgia, but SoS: Trio of Towns was so far my favorite, even with "no mineration mechanic" at all hahaha. In my nintendo switch my favorite is Pioneers of Olive Town, mechanics there imo was better, with more options of customization .In friends of mineral town everyone looks so chibi, so childish... I dunno, not my taste of artstyle. I can't wait to play a wonderfull life! Nice video, great wrok!!!
Thanks! Yeah, I really don't like the style of SoS FoMT either. I much prefer the style in the other two games. I hope you enjoy AWL! Only a few weeks away now!
Good that you broke it down into categories but I would have liked a category for building as upgrading the house, buying new things like a greenhouse and stuff like that is something I like a lot. Unfortunately many farming games don’t put much effort into house upgrades. You only get 1 or maybe 2 size upgrades and you can’t customise much.
Long time Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons fan here. I think with Olive town they were testing the waters with a bunch of different features and ended up with a bunch of different issues that were never a problem in previous games thus pissing off long time fans. I REALLY didn't like Olive town because I think I play SoS games for the social aspect and to just chill. So the pretty crappy social aspect and all the mindless grinding to do anything got to me. But because they are testing new features, I am looking forward to the new games coming out, I think they have figured out what works and what doesn't. Also, If you like Olive town you will probably like some of the Rune factory games. BTW you had some echo-y audio issues in parts of your video, mainly where you were comparing the 3 in each category.
If i'm not mistaken, in FoMT, they will only let you buy a new pet after your previous pet has a max friendship level... so it's really difficult to get them 😅 Anyway, right now my favourite is FoMT, i'm not a fan of the chibis and i have some gripes about it BUT i get to remember certain characters and scenes to this day and this is the only entry to use portraits for the characters wich i prefer more than those 3D models they got. But i had more time playing Poot, i think we can both agree about this game 😅
@@samantha953 Correction... it seems the pet will need 8 heart of affection and 10 hearts is the max... maybe it's full adult at this level... anyway it's what they say on a pet guide
I will send this to a friend to see if it helps them decide which to try! But I have to mention something that is still actively making me go insane with Mineral Town. Livestock and chicken affection meters are "grown" through breeding. Which by itself, I love that concept, but there are 10 hearts in total and all animals start at 5 hearts. So every different type of cow, chicken, rabbit, sheep, alpaca, and so on ALL require to go through that breeding process that for the livestock takes so long as you have to go through the pregnancy, give birth, wait for the livestock to GROW UP, and THEN you can work on the next heart starting that process over anew. So every animal needs to go through it 5 times to get that max affection, where you can only have 2 livestock (after a barn upgrade) and 1 egg processing at a time. And then I'm mechanically naming my calves "7" to represent their affection meter and heartless selling them off once they've done their job to produce "8". I don't like the person I became going through that process, or having to explain to friends why I had 4 different animals named "6" or why I carried around miracle potions permanently so I could bolt to the barn once someone gave birth to cram miracle potions into the next victims mouth or hiss over the sheep not having wool yet so I have to decide if I wait or just go ahead and start another cow. I was ruthless in the original AWL, but I don't want my dark past to follow me
Yeah, actually all of the games do at least one or two things that I don't particularly like, haha. I don't think what you said bothers me too much because I usually only play for like 3 years or so and then move on, haha. If some part of a game annoys me I'll just ignore it... Now that I think about it, that's kind of how I am in real life as well, hahaha.
Oh wow, you're right, haha. I started with HM64 and that game did not have sprinklers, so I just assumed the PoOT was the first in the series to include them! Wonder why they took such a long break in the series.
Yeah, I hope they revisit Magical Melody as well! It had so many marriage candidates, an achievement system that actually gave you good rewards, and I loved how you could build your farm wherever you wanted! The only downsides are the graphics and it's kind of lacking some quality of life updates.
@@kitanamorgan7491 I had a lot of fun with the ba bazaar system! I haven't played it in years and now have no idea where my ds is now after moving a couple times, but thinking about it and HM/SOS again really makes me want to dive into a farming game again lol
@elithegaymer I loved the graphics in magical melody! I will agree that there are places it needs to be updated though. I remember that I was never able to get very far in it because I had so much trouble earning money. Also, none of the farms had enough room. Even the ocean one, which was the biggest, barely had any room for anything
Actually there's a few other category you could've used: -character designs -protagonist customization For me, Pioneers of Olive Town won that one. The protagonist and batchelor/ette character designs are phenomenal and you can customize your own character's appearance in a lot of ways. There there was also: -areas to explore
not me watching this after i bought all 3... and still have both original versions boy & girl of WL/MT,,,, (to be fair my GBA cartridges are probably long dead, to say nothing of my actual GBA...) anyway, this was a fun and informative watch! Really excited to try/get back to all 3 of them, as a hopeless farm-sim addict since harvest moon 64/SoS 64
i tried to get into poot but couldnt 😭 good dialogue is a must have in my farming games. noww we just need a harvest moon 64 remake to come out so it can be my number 1
Oh my goodness, a remake of HM64 would be my number 1 as well! I hate that they seem to have forgotten about it! Heck, just give me the original 64 game plus bachelors I'd be happy.
Awesome video keep up the good work & I played two story of seasons games for Nintendo switch so far & Story of Seasons Pioneers of Olive Town is still the best game in my personal opinion but I’m might get a remake version of a wonderful life for marvelous sake but I’m not happy about the ending because your character passed away at the end of the game & I can’t imagine me passing away in forgotten valley & never come back to olive town with Damon & he don’t want to be alone without me around anymore so I’m glad that I played story of Seasons Pioneers of Olive town because it is way better than a wonderful life in my personal opinion & I hope u get back playing Story of Seasons Pioneers of Olive Town if u really want to & it is your choice right now & just u know when u talk to the marriage candidates parents after u got married to the marriage candidates they don’t say anything about their child at all & it happened to me while I’m married to Damon & I was not happy at all & I learned more about Damon backstory a lot deeper then before & u got to go deeper to the game so u get to feel emotional to the marriage candidates & since u are married to Ralph I believe u might be very lucky to being there for him because ralph feel very lonely after his mother passed away & same goes to Jack too & as for Damon well me I immediately stay by his side every single day because his parents don’t really care about him anymore so they ask me to raise their son for them & I’m his 2nd parents to damon in my game & I will be there for him right by his side no matter what
I'm glad that you are still enjoying your time in Pioneers of Olive Town! Hopefully the next Story of Seasons game includes some great marriage candidates again.
@@elithegaymer yeah I hope so too & I believe that Story of Seasons Pioneers of Olive Town have the best customization because u can customize your character & your farm too & that was the best part of the game so far in my personal opinion
Thank you for making this video! I've been obsessed with SoS games as of lately, played PoOT but it wasn't really my thing, the characters just weren't as likable, the 3D models weren't good enough/expressive... I wish they kept portraits for them. Loving the FoMT remake though!!! (But I'm kinda done with the game AAAA) looking forward to the Wonderful Life remake.
Yeah, I wish they had spent on a bit more time on the characters in Olive Town. The farm stuff is fun, but it would have been so much improved with better characters!
Haha, well… I don’t think you will like A Wonderful Life in its current state either then, haha. There are a few cool things to save up for and then it’s like… well, I guess I could spend a million on a creepy doll, hahaha.
Hi Eli! Great video!! I preferred mineral town to olive town, I didn’t mind the chibi style at all. I really liked the winter mine! But agree with you about the Sprites, did not enjoy the system of bribery at all but my kids liked the Sprites mini games. For olive town we also liked the mining mini game but the electric moles totally stressed me out! Lol . I really liked the sprinklers in olive town! A bit worried that in a wonderful life, I’ll have to water all the crops myself?!! Oh no, does it get tedious?? I think overall, while playing olive town, I was always mildly annoyed, which is not how you should be feeling when gaming 😂😂😂 so I’m looking forward to a wonderful life! I’m sure it won’t let me down. Can’t wait for June!
In AWL, I don't think watering the crops gets tedious. Mostly because the area for you to plant crops is so small (and for me I like to plant fruit trees which take up 9 squares)! Haha, also, you can still upgrade your watering can so you can water a lot of squares all at once.
I'm also not a big fan of the sprites. So when I played Friends of Mineral Town I worked very hard on getting the best tools in the game + the (I would call them) quality of life items. Which includes teleporting crystal/stone, the gifts of Kappa and the goddess of harvest. But the most useful is definitely the teleporting crystal that allows fast travel all around the map.
I definitely like a wonderful life the best it has my favourite marriage candidate in the series and I really like the other characters and the farming in the game. I also really like how the game has a story and progresses through years and the characters get older and your child grows up. I would like it even more though if they did some updates for the game.
I think I'm going to buy "a wonderful life" now. I want a new harvest moon and I like my games with a lot of story , so you really sold me on that game. I was already planning to buy "winds of anthos" depending on its first (still missing) trailer, but now I have another option. I only played "Island of Happiness" so far, so I'm easy to please. 😅
Yeah, if you like story and getting to know the characters, then you should enjoy A Wonderful Life! The western release is less than a month away now! Hope you enjoy the game.
@@stardustworlds1493hey just a heads up don’t buy anymore Harvest Moon games, but story of Seasons. Story of seasons is the real harvest moon devs. The real Harvest Moon name just gets milked for $$ now.
I honestly don't see how anyone can say the social aspect of mineral town is better than olive town. In olive town they have a wide variety of things they can say to you. In mineral town they have 1 thing they say every single day. For months on end, the one phrase on repeat. In mineral town I can barely stand talking to anyone past the first season. Truly awful social In that game.
I've been playing all three at the same time for the last few weeks. And I'm finding I don't like Its a Wonderful Life - being forced to get married, the shorter seasons and everything seems more complicated than I needs to be? I loved the original FoMT games (I bought MFoMT when I was living in Japan.), and I think the remake is a lovely game. I do like Pioneers of Olive Town the best though - and I like all the extra content with the DLCs.
You seem to have good taste! Haha, I think all three of them are so different but for some reason I find Olive Town the easiest to go back to since I like the gameplay the most… I just wish that the villagers felt a bit more alive and they had changed just a few things slightly. Hopefully their next game is like Olive Town with a few improvements!
I've only ever played one harvest moon game but I'm curious, do any of these games also have restoration aspects to them because that is one of the main things I enjoy and it's fun to unlock new areas. Great video also, I was literally just thinking about if I wanted to get one of these games and then this video showed up, I think its a sign lol.
Friends of Mineral Town and A Wonderful don't have restoration aspects at all. In Pioneers of Olive Town you repair bridges and upgrade your home and the town. It's not made by the original developers, but if you really like restoration aspects in farming games, you could check out Harvest Moon Light of Hope. In that game you start with nothing and like three villagers. You have to repair their homes and then more and more people move to the town. The graphics and dialogue are weak though just so you are warned. I have a review for it on my page.
I loved this style of review! I'm not sure if it's on my end, but tehre is a bit of echo on foraging. Just thought I would let you know, but it didn't hinder the video!
Yeah, it's the video, sorry. Haha, I had to shoot and reshoot several parts of this video because the audio was off in my first draft. I redid the parts that were the most echo-y but that part was borderline so I left in, hahaha. I put in the audio samples of the games in between a few sections because otherwise the change in audio would be even more noticeable, hahahah. Sorry. I have located the problem and won't make that mistake again. Hopefully, hahaha.
There's actually 2 more Story of Seasons titles on Switch; that of the Doraemon series. Doraemon Story of Seasons and Doraemon Story of Seasons Friends of the Great Kingdom
I agree with you on all counts, for POOT and FOMT at least, because I haven't played AWL yet and didn't know if I should get it, but the graphics and social aspect are quite important to me because it gives the game some depth. I haven't decided if I want to get RF3 Special or AWL now for the same price, I never played either one. And then they're both on Steam and Switch, and then I have to decide which platform. So many choices 😥🥴
I have to fix my joy con drift also, and get a new mouse for my pc, so I don't know which to do first so that's why I have gamer's block, like writer's block but then for gamers
I just hate trying to get the rarer fish and then losing the mini game! I would be okay with it if it maybe just affected the quality of your fish or something like that.
Honestly, if the social aspects of PoOT were better and they changed a few things here and there, it could be an amazing game. Such a shame that they dropped the those things.
There are a bunch of things you can catch in friends of mineral town??? The fishes just become « small fish » « medium fish » « large fish » in your inventory, they’re so boring and I never bother to fish. I love fishing mini games!
I will mention my best which is Pioneers of Olive town. I like the mini game, collecting with the museum, the upgrading farm system and animals. I hate with a passion the strawberry cow and that crap. I dont care about the dialog because i care farming not the people but yes agree is bad social aspect.
Guys I’ve never played this series ever but played things like stardew and animal crossing from the beginning of time 🤣 is this series better on switch or pc?? Can anyone help?
People were complaining about the controls for Story of Seasons A Wonderful Life, so if you choose that game, definitely go with the Switch version. All three games were built from the ground up on the Switch anyway, so I'd say the Switch is probably the better option. All three games have achievements in them on both Switch and PC.
Good job with the vid, I grew up on harvest moon for the nintendo 64, and ps1. I love the festival aspect of the games. The GameCube game I found to be boring.
There were two Gamecube games, Magical Melody (which I personally preferred) and A Wonderful Life. The remake of AWL does it improve it in a lot of ways... but it's still the same core game.
@@elithegaymer FoMT was definitely great. AWL however I didn't like at all. I'm still enjoying SoS FoMT. I actually plan on having my character marry Doctor.
One thing, that you forgot to mention and it really should be mentioned, as it's for me personally quite a problem with SOS AWL is that you NEED to get married in set timeframe, or you will loose the game. That's the part that I think bothers me with that game the most.
For me, my Top 1 is Pioneers of Olive Town, Top 2 is A Wonderful Life and Top 3 is Friends of Mineral Town I played both the older versions of A Wonderful Life and Friends of Mineral Town in PS2 (the Special Edition of AWL) and PS1 (when Friends of Mineral Town was titled Back To Nature) Sadly, these remakes didn't live up to me and despite the nostalgia that it brings, it really lacks the wow factor that it had before. The remake of AWL nerfed some of its features and despite the fact that the graphics was so nice, they changed a lot of the gameplay that it makes this game somehow "easy" compared to its GameCube and PS2 edition. As the game lost its depth, it's now blank because this game is in slower pace, others might get turned off. For FoMT, I was so disappointed with the remake. You can get rich easily with the "Van's Favorite" trick in here. It loses its charm along the way, and I don't like the chibi artstyle they've done here. The gameplay was so shallow compared to its BTN and even to its extent the GameBoy and Nintendo 64 version. The reason why Pioneers of Olive Town is for me because it reminds me the gameplay mechanics from Harvest Moon: A New Beginning in 3DS (which was I played too) and adopted some mechanics to the Stardew Valley. This game makes you really strategize to run your farm and it is not that easy. Though, it might be an ambitious farming game with a lot of features introduced and will easily confuse you with a lot of farming mechanics that you need to do, it will reward you in the end if you will succeed to create that farming setup you wanted to be. Yes, many will turn down Pioneers because of this, but for me this is by far the most serious game that Marvelous provided in the Bokujou Monogatari series which is dying lately because of the crappy gameplay mechanics that they are introducing with their newer games and nerfing classical remakes which is really not that good at all.
i really wish i had watched this video before purchasing mineral town on my switch! i had such fond fuzzy memories of romancing popuri as a kid, but the game just isnt to my taste anymore... at least the remake isnt. even though the gameplay is what doesn't click with me the most, I would rather just play the original for its beautiful pixel art...
I started UA-cam with no knowledge of anything (filming, editing, etc.). In the past half year Ive spent more time trying to understand sound quality, echoes, and the like more than anything else, haha.

I really didn’t like Pioneers of olive tree town Because it was hard to make things that you need it Especially the mining And when I gave them items to get things, I never got them
Really the only thing I hated about A(n)WL growing up was the almost literal shotgun wedding…and insult to injury…the marriage options were limited and men in AnWL outright stunk. At least they let us be sapphic now (and apollian but the only decent guy personality wise was Gustafa, he just wasn’t attractive as far as Eye Candy goes) and added Cody but… it still really really stinks that they kept the Forced Romance In A Year Or You LOSE instead of idk…letting the player adopt automatically if they don’t marry anyone + making Chapter1 closer to 2-3 years and making the romance more in-depth (since the Forced To Do It +Options SUCK was a major complaint for the og). And possibly making more available to marry (like Flora, the Mermaid, and Shrine Maiden in DS; Skye from DSCute + two new guys. Skye creeps me out probably more than Rock and Marlin but he does have his fanbase from the old AnWL/DS Cute players) Like…they did so much to de-clunk the farming gameplay + even put in a river crossing, allowed players to play non-straight or non-cis characters…I just really wish the romance wasn’t Do It Or You LOSE!!
Edit: Doing away with impregnating cows to get milk in AWL isn’t a bad thing. In the old system you could only EVER have two cows producing milk at a time, and that’s IF!! you timed their impregnation Just So. Why? BARN SPACE. There’s not enough space for the calves. You have to keep at least one empty stall at all times to impregnate cows, and you ONLY! have one calf hutch. And since you were encouraged to have Every Type Of Cow, One Sheep, and the Goat in addition to the Horse but you couldn’t actually craft with the wool produced and the wool wasn’t worth as much as a stack of S or A milk from the normal cow, nevermind the other breeds…you were stuck with a largely unproductive barn to try and get your child to Hopefully!! pick ranching or farming as a career pathway. So…the OG had really great ideas for the breeding and realism…but. They just weren’t implemented well if you wanted productive cows vs cute cattle to snuggle It would’ve been nice if they doubled the barn size/made the barn expandable (ie bigger on the inside) and provided at least 4 calf hutches and allowed 4-6 cows producing milk at a time…but I understand why they opted to just remove that system entirely instead And honestly…the headache of timing out breeding-for-milk is probably why it never fully returned in other games, and breeding as a franchise staple became more about basically cloning your animals’ stats instead Second Edit: …okay I did see that the remake adds in a Chicken Bell for gathering the flock but…why did they keep the Unusable Shed Placeholder for the Chickenyard still so far away from the actual coop?!
sadly the whole point of a wonderful life is the romance and family legacy aspect of it. and a game coming out of a place like japan would not touch on adoption unless its for drama bc family and being able to have a family registry is so important
@@ivyward1393but there’s already gay/lesbian marriage in the remake and you have a child. So adoption is in the game already? I do agree about the family legacy part
I had high hopes for FoMT, but when I found out that they took away the rival marriages, it just killed the game for me. What's the point of even having a rival system if they can't get married.
I hate that too. It's still probably one my favorite games in the series so far, but everytime I play the remake, I just sort of sigh in the back of my mind. I loved watching everyone's stories progress. Like some people said, they should have the rival events triggered after you get married or have it as something you can turn on and off for the people who don't like it
Ok looks good hope they improve on the dating and marriage thing so it is more better not the same stuff said over and over again I love the.old harvest moon games I played on my wii u but after a while the bachlor you married same the same stuff wich got boring after while I really hope this gsme is better I know also in setmber fae farms come out and soon sunny side will be comming out so hope they can compete with these new games comminh out as welln
It’s funny because I legit did not know this so I kept making my cows pregnant… And then I was like, let’s just see what happens when I DON’T keep making them pregnant… They never stop giving milk. Guess they think it’s a quality of life change?
Right? They’re so annoying. Their inconvenient location, their personalities, the fact that their work can’t be automated, basically just everything about them kind of annoys me, haha.
I am on year 3, yes 3, of SOS AWL. I'm only on Spring 18 year 1 of PoOT. Let me make it very clear that SOS AWL doesn't deserve to be above PoOT. There is a mechanic in SOS AWL where you literally just waste 6 hours on purpose because there is nothing to do except give gifts twice a day and take care of animals twice a day and shake your rare trees that are fruiting. SOS AWL is a life sim before its a farming sim so that is probably why i dislike it so much. Again, I've played it up until chapter 3 so its not like I didn't try to like it. I got to end game and its boring man period
Idk i would like a wonderful life but for me... Its a bit empty and boring... Saw some other Videos and idk its Not what i like about harvest moon. And for me friends of mineral town looks awesome.... Way more then the others sadly...
I kept hoping her mom would come back
Jeff a bankrupt shopkeeper that dreams to be a painter 👩🎨
Wait what? Who's in love with another villager but can't marry her?
@@rivaynxI am pretty sure it’s Zack that says that but I’m not sure who is he talking about
The acronym for Pioneers of Olive Town being POOT cracked me up and made me think of Poot Lovato 😭 For my personal tastes, Friends of Mineral Town is my favorite.
@@elithegaymer thank you for always making such fun videos! 💓🙆🏻♀️💫
Great video! Enjoyed that you ranked categories instead if just the games against each other.
@@marksamson4173 you have to try it. The creator himself has stated that AWL is the closest to the early HM concept.
Thank you for this wonderful video. It helped me decide on getting Pioneers of Olive town!
Thanks for taking the time to comment! I hope you enjoy your time in Olive Town!
Nice job. You helped me a lot here. I'll pick Wonderful Life right now.
Did you pick it up? Do you enjoy it?
you can put the egg in the incubator in PoOT you just need to upgrade your chicken coop.
I think pioneers of olive town looks really fun I’ll check it out
I'm new to your channel and I love your content ❤ I'm just in the middle of SOS AWL !!
Aw, welcome to the channel! Thanks for taking the time to leave a nice comment!
You will be forced to marry but the end of season 1 so i will let this one go.
Very thorough. I really appreciate it. I picked up Pioneers just now 😊 I'll eventually get the others too
I hope you enjoy all three! They are all very different. Pioneers has a lot of fun things to do on your farm!
@@elithegaymer It's cool they offer different options though cause everyone plays games a bit different I am generally a completest so even if I hated the sprites I'd end up maxing them out anyway lol
this was a very helpful video tysm!
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave a comment!
There is no crafting system in A Wonderful Life or Friends of Mineral Town, only cooking.
@@elithegaymer thank you for replying. Seems like I will get one of those next, after I play this one. Glad I just found your channel, it's very helpful. You got a new subscriber. Thank you!
@@elithegaymer I meant makers in POOT not crafting sorry. I hope the other 2 games don't have as many of them at least.
@@elithegaymer Thank you for your help! I will be getting one of the others after I play Poot some more. Thanks again
I loved FoMT
But the remake just felt like it lost so much of its magic.
If i'm not mistaken, in FoMT, they will only let you buy a new pet after your previous pet has a max friendship level... so it's really difficult to get them 😅
Anyway, right now my favourite is FoMT, i'm not a fan of the chibis and i have some gripes about it BUT i get to remember certain characters and scenes to this day and this is the only entry to use portraits for the characters wich i prefer more than those 3D models they got.
But i had more time playing Poot, i think we can both agree about this game 😅
Yeah, you have to max out the pet's friendship level to get another one! So you really have to choose carefully, haha.
No I don’t have any pets max friendship they just have to be fully grown.
@@samantha953 Correction... it seems the pet will need 8 heart of affection and 10 hearts is the max... maybe it's full adult at this level... anyway it's what they say on a pet guide
Why is Doraemon not included in the comparison?
Now that I think about it, that's kind of how I am in real life as well, hahaha.
there was actually sprinklers in the very first harvest moon too!
Oh wow, you're right, haha. I started with HM64 and that game did not have sprinklers, so I just assumed the PoOT was the first in the series to include them! Wonder why they took such a long break in the series.
Have you done a comparison video like this for all the farming sims? Good format
Defiantly looking forward for more remake and newer game for them in the future, especially those from wii like animal parade, magical melody.
Yeah, I hope they revisit Magical Melody as well! It had so many marriage candidates, an achievement system that actually gave you good rewards, and I loved how you could build your farm wherever you wanted! The only downsides are the graphics and it's kind of lacking some quality of life updates.
might be an unpopular opinion but I really hope they bring back a grand bazaar style game also!
@@kitanamorgan7491 grand barzar is also really fun! The concept that you can only sell things on the barzar day is really unique and challenging
Actually there's a few other category you could've used:
-character designs
-protagonist customization
For me, Pioneers of Olive Town won that one. The protagonist and batchelor/ette character designs are phenomenal and you can customize your own character's appearance in a lot of ways.
There there was also:
-areas to explore
not me watching this after i bought all 3... and still have both original versions boy & girl of WL/MT,,,, (to be fair my GBA cartridges are probably long dead, to say nothing of my actual GBA...) anyway, this was a fun and informative watch! Really excited to try/get back to all 3 of them, as a hopeless farm-sim addict since harvest moon 64/SoS 64

Is there an echo to the video or am I just crazy/my phone?
i tried to get into poot but couldnt 😭 good dialogue is a must have in my farming games. noww we just need a harvest moon 64 remake to come out so it can be my number 1

I am waiting so patiently for a HM64 remake 🙏
Thanks a lot for this review! I was looking for a fun game for my girlfriend and AWL seems to be the most fitting for her followed by FoMT :)

Friends of mineral town is charming but didn't have enough things to buy. Most of the fun I had was from the romance part.
@@elithegaymer lol I’d definitely plant more fruit trees too then haha!
In awl remake you still can get rich by making sashimi ?
Feels like fishing game the old version
As someone who grew up with harvest moon ds, I would really like to see another game with both mineral town and wonderful life characters
I might try a no-sprite run of it, haha. I do really like the characters.
This video is so helpful! Thank you
I definitely like a wonderful life the best it has my favourite marriage candidate in the series and I really like the other characters and the farming in the game. I also really like how the game has a story and progresses through years and the characters get older and your child grows up. I would like it even more though if they did some updates for the game.
Yeah, I really hope the game gets some updates! I think it should, being that PoOT got so many updates post launch.
@@elithegaymer thank you
@@stardustworlds1493hey just a heads up don’t buy anymore Harvest Moon games, but story of Seasons.
Hopefully their next game is like Olive Town with a few improvements!
thx love the video!!
Thanks for taking the time to comment!
@@elithegaymer thank you so much I will check out the harvest moon video 👌

HOLY SMOKES
Mark Zuckerberg Voice Activated Review Harvest Moon
I Like man :) Thank you
I love awl and hate how tedious it was to make money in the original but the remake is just so much better!! Probably gonna pick the other two later
Haha I like the complicated fishing! I loved it in PoOT and wish there was more to it in FoMT
I just hate trying to get the rarer fish and then losing the mini game! I would be okay with it if it maybe just affected the quality of your fish or something like that.
@elithegaymer haha different strokes for different folks I guess! I liked the challenge.
Mine is 1.fomt 2.awl 3.poot ❤ you’re right about the social aspect of poot. Lol
How nice to see a fellow fishing enthusiast
I will mention my best which is Pioneers of Olive town. I like the mini game, collecting with the museum, the upgrading farm system and animals. I hate with a passion the strawberry cow and that crap. I dont care about the dialog because i care farming not the people but yes agree is bad social aspect.
For me .. 1-AWL 2-FOMT 3-POOT
Only mineral town is good because of the 2D sprites 😎
Guys I’ve never played this series ever but played things like stardew and animal crossing from the beginning of time 🤣 is this series better on switch or pc?? Can anyone help?
People were complaining about the controls for Story of Seasons A Wonderful Life, so if you choose that game, definitely go with the Switch version. All three games were built from the ground up on the Switch anyway, so I'd say the Switch is probably the better option. All three games have achievements in them on both Switch and PC.
@@elithegaymer thanks ☺️
Good job with the vid, I grew up on harvest moon for the nintendo 64, and ps1. I love the festival aspect of the games. The GameCube game I found to be boring.
There were two Gamecube games, Magical Melody (which I personally preferred) and A Wonderful Life. The remake of AWL does it improve it in a lot of ways... but it's still the same core game.
I actually played the original FoMT (both the male & female versions) & AWL (where I died of old age). I'm actually more fond of FoMT. 😅
For the originals, I prefer FoMT for sure! The original AWL was too slow paced for me. I spent so much time playing HM64, BtN, and FoMT!
@@elithegaymer FoMT was definitely great. AWL however I didn't like at all. I'm still enjoying SoS FoMT. I actually plan on having my character marry Doctor.
you forgot Doraemon Story of Seasons. and Doraemon friends of the great kingdom both story seasons games. both very good games.
For me : 1. AWL, 2. FoMT, 3. PoOT
I hate the way in FOMT you have to breed your animals to get max hearts, it wouldn't be so bad if it didn't take so long to breed cows
Yeah, that aspect of FoMT is a little bit annoying! Glad not every game has that particular mechanic.
One thing, that you forgot to mention and it really should be mentioned, as it's for me personally quite a problem with SOS AWL is that you NEED to get married in set timeframe, or you will loose the game. That's the part that I think bothers me with that game the most.
What about doraemon story of seasons
For me, my Top 1 is Pioneers of Olive Town, Top 2 is A Wonderful Life and Top 3 is Friends of Mineral Town
I played both the older versions of A Wonderful Life and Friends of Mineral Town in PS2 (the Special Edition of AWL) and PS1 (when Friends of Mineral Town was titled Back To Nature)
Sadly, these remakes didn't live up to me and despite the nostalgia that it brings, it really lacks the wow factor that it had before.
Didnt like POOT , also not a huge of FOMT remake loved the original one on gameboy though. Super excited for WL 😊
What about doraemon?
I see them as spin offs, not the main series. I played the demos and did not really get into them.
why does it sound like u filmed at the bus station lol good video though
I started UA-cam with no knowledge of anything (filming, editing, etc.). In the past half year Ive spent more time trying to understand sound quality, echoes, and the like more than anything else, haha.
@@elithegaymer i run a solo baord game channel called "The Hexy Beast" and was one of the issues i faced in the first year i bought a Sony ECM-W2BT lav mic set and it pretty much sorted my sound out completely i highly reccomend it especially if ur using a sony zv1 camera aswel as it fits right into the meedia shoe
AWL is the best, except that its missing my man Iori from poot 💔
I really didn’t like Pioneers of olive tree town
Because it was hard to make things that you need it
Especially the mining
And when I gave them items to get things, I never got them
But you can upgrade your tools and that’s make everything easy
Skye creeps me out probably more than Rock and Marlin but he does have his fanbase from the old AnWL/DS Cute players)
Like…they did so much to de-clunk the farming gameplay + even put in a river crossing, allowed players to play non-straight or non-cis characters…I just really wish the romance wasn’t Do It Or You LOSE!!
Edit:
Doing away with impregnating cows to get milk in AWL isn’t a bad thing.
They just weren’t implemented well if you wanted productive cows vs cute cattle to snuggle
It would’ve been nice if they doubled the barn size/made the barn expandable (ie bigger on the inside) and provided at least 4 calf hutches and allowed 4-6 cows producing milk at a time…but I understand why they opted to just remove that system entirely instead
And honestly…the headache of timing out breeding-for-milk is probably why it never fully returned in other games, and breeding as a franchise staple became more about basically cloning your animals’ stats instead
Second Edit:
…okay I did see that the remake adds in a Chicken Bell for gathering the flock but…why did they keep the Unusable Shed Placeholder for the Chickenyard still so far away from the actual coop?!
sadly the whole point of a wonderful life is the romance and family legacy aspect of it. and a game coming out of a place like japan would not touch on adoption unless its for drama bc family and being able to have a family registry is so important
@@ivyward1393but there’s already gay/lesbian marriage in the remake and you have a child. So adoption is in the game already?
I do agree about the family legacy part
A wonder life is more for nostalgia imo 😅 like idc im still gonna get it and compare it to the 1st original one
Like some people said, they should have the rival events triggered after you get married or have it as something you can turn on and off for the people who don't like it
I kept hoping they would bring it back as an optional update, but... nope 😓
You don’t have to get your cow pregnant every year to get milk in the remake of AWL??? Why?
It’s funny because I legit did not know this so I kept making my cows pregnant… And then I was like, let’s just see what happens when I DON’T keep making them pregnant… They never stop giving milk. Guess they think it’s a quality of life change?
Fishing mini game makes him things an absolute no for me. Lol
Thank you! I really dislike fishing in most games, too. Sometimes I’ll get nearly 100% in a game but stop at the fishing stuff, haha.
I didn't like the sprites in FOMT either
for crops
Whoa.
Idk i would like a wonderful life but for me... Its a bit empty and boring... Saw some other Videos and idk its Not what i like about harvest moon.
And for me friends of mineral town looks awesome.... Way more then the others sadly...
Wow this guy really doesn't like POOT, talk about a bias 😅
I love how Karen basically became a completely different girl in the remake lol
