Our Cybertruck's performance figures are impressive, but our ownership experience so far has not been and it's already headed back to Tesla for a checkup. Is there anything you'd like to see us do with our Cybertruck over our next year or so with it? Let us know in the comments below!

I think it was the Carrera GTS Cabriolet 2D in 2015 that rolled off a flatbed at our shop one morning, thing was like 2 months old and the alternator was fried. I just laughed my ass off, over priced hunk of shit. Thing cost like $130-140k at the time. Still a lot cheaper than the Dodge Viper I worked on in 2002, some dumb ass bought it with lottery winnings and couldn't afford the tires they had us put on it. We ended up selling it at auction after a few months of no payment legally, made the shop about $90k. lol. Edit: Oh and about the Viper, the customer didn't respond to the many, many attempts to get them to come in and pay for it. After so much time it was considered abandoned and the property of the shop.

If Tesla wants to continue to tout amazing next-gen tech they need to prove that it works and that it is durable. It's as if they built a prototype and then decided that the prototype should go into production without any further tweaks.

Also if Teslas are such shit why do they sell so well? vehicles that are shit dont sell in any other capacities worldwide. So you believe Tesla would invest in building the other versions of Cybertruck if they didn't make $$ on it? lol you just sound like a hater honestly. By your logic then toyota tundras are trash and it was a botched launch lol since you know tons of the engines are failing on brand new tundras lol Funny how you wont mention that but you will shit on Tesla lol

From the sounds of things, something in the steer-by-wire system failed a diagnostic self-test. At first, the diagnostic system had confidence in the vehicle being controllable, while in limp mode. A second component failed a self-test, which prompted the vehicle to stop moving. That it occurred twice, with the first instance being resolved by a restart, identifies it as an 'intermittent fault' which will be a devil to diagnose. Possible issues include a bad electrical connection, or a cold solder joint. Both of those issues are easy to miss.

I really appreciate the review, even though I will never buy a Cybertruck. Edmunds is my go-to for researching cars before purchase. Keep up the great work!
Could not agree more that the cybertruck is faster than it needs to be! But I'll take it a step further--it's faster than can be used in daily driving in normal traffic.
Track testing a cybertruck is about as relevant as track testing a Ferrari. Track days are something 99.9% of people will never do.Sure, closed-circuit testing is about the only way you can test certain handling characteristics safely, but standing water, black ice, potholes and other road hazards are things that happen when you aren't expecting them.
I wish there was a way to test how cars handle under those circumstances. How good will a cybertruck be at avoiding accidents in a city? On a narrow rural one-track? How does the drive-by wire handle sudden, jerky inputs? Etc.

  • @patrickcarey393

Never buy a new vehicle the year it comes out. It usually takes a couple of years for the manufacturer to identify and eliminate the bugs. In the case of the Cybertruck I can only imagine how complicated that can be with an all new type of vehicle using completely different materials and manufacturing techniques. In my lifetime I made that mistake with Ford, Buick, VW, and finally learned my lesson with Saturn. GM were smart enough to wait until the bugs from the Saturn were gone before introducing the same car as a Chev Cruise which sold very well for many years.

I’ve noticed a trend in recent years: Star Wars can put out failure after failure and the people in charge of the failures do not change course or lose their job. The MCU has churned out a similarly low quality string of products and the people in charge remain. Tesla can put out this frankly *irresponsibly* dangerous vehicle, and yet there are still those who praise this unacceptable product and defend its designer without a hint of sarcasm. And I don’t need to even delve too deep into what’s going on with the Republican candidate right now.
For some reason, we are at a point where there can be incredibly bad, even harmful, choices made by powerful people/companies/entities in repeat and long term, yet somehow they remain.

    • @MarcoNierop
      @MarcoNierop 2 місяці тому +3

A lot safer than these super duty big barndoor size front grill trucks where the driver cant see anything right in front of them.. this HAS killed dozens of children already, and nobody is talking about that.
If the Cybertruck was unacceptably dangerous, it would not have been allowed on your US roads by NHTSA
Safety has always been a top priority for Tesla, and Tesla cars are the safest cars on the road today.. and this is no different with the Cybertruck. Instead of making BS up in your mushy mind, look things up, it is all out there on the internet.

The Cybertruck does not have a five star rating and in fact has not been tested by the NHTSA because it is a low volume high cost vehicle. Tesla could provide the NHTSA with a Cybertruck to test at Tesla's expense but has not elected to do so.
What we do know is that the Cybertruck has already been subject to 4 recalls and is under one active investigation. One of those recalls was because the accelerator pedal was able to come loose in normal operation causing it to become stuck in the down position. It is also illegal in Europe where they have actual safety standards.

As a software guy with a background in working on nuclear instrumentation (which is built for redundancy and protective features with voting criteria to eliminate single-point failures)... this really makes me LMAO. The whole "Did you try turning it off and back on again?" treatment for digital errors is because spurious signals and logic flips can (and do) happen in every digital system (On average cosmic rays flip about 4 bits *per GB* of RAM per month). The idea of turning it off and on again is built on the idea that random faults are unavoidable but also don't re-occur. So, you should _always_ reset a system once, and if the problem comes back, THEN you call an IT professional and pursue troubleshooting. The fact that people are running into the same errors on different systems, but also in a semi-random fashion, really speaks to how terribly the system is designed and built. If they were simpler errors, the results would be more consistent and a solution would be more forthcoming. Either Musk really hires "the best people", or Musk really has a knack for making his employees so angry that they're all sabotaging different systems independently.

When you run the test again with earowheels could you also use the all season tyres instead of the all terrain tyres. When people are interest in long range performance they likely don't take it offload at the same time and otherwise could swapp wheels if they go offloading.
Would be very interesting to see what the range is with earo covers and normal all season tyres.
