      The two motors are not for redundancy. The brakes and steering should have redundancy. The dual motors are the simplest way to do 4 wheel drive with the least weight, and also let you do clever traction control things and energy saving things by running the motors at different powers or even shutting one off in general cruising mode.

He laughed and said "what do you mean?, we can do whatever you want". And next after doing that, I learned to how to completely rebuild my '72' Kaw. To be fair some of the first cars were electric, EVs have been a pipe dream for over 100 years and it wasn't till LiPO batteries reached the public (They've existed since the 60's) that they were even slightly possible. They still aren't good unless you drive short distances and then have hours to spare to recharge... and hopefully there is a charging station and the local power grid can even handle them.

    • @aaronb7990
      @aaronb7990 3 місяці тому +3

      My Model Y has over 500HP, and gets plenty of range. So far in 4 months it has only been to a Supercharger 3 times. Once the day we got it and 2 times on our vacation. On zero occasions did we have to wait for it, in fact it finished charging and needed to be taken off the charger since we were not done eating on all 3 occasions.
      A huge plus is there is never a question of having enough gas to go somewhere, or having to stop for gas on the way somewhere. Every morning it is charged up and ready to go. It takes about 10 seconds to plug and unplug it. In 1 month if used every day it would only take 300seconds (5 minutes). It took more time than that to drive to the gas station once much less 4 times a month and the time to pay and pump.
      As far as energy distribution refer to your statement, about how long the electtric motor and batteries have been around. Back when it was invented, there was zero infrastructure, and all our factories ran on locally generated energy. Those days are gone and now every factory and home has power. We run lights at night on empty streets just because. Demand = Production = More Power. To think that there is not someone willing to make money building more electrical infrastructure is mind numbing to me.
      In reality burning gas and diesel in mobile powerplants is ridiculously inefficient getting less than %20 efficiency. Simply moving that usage to a real PowerPlant moves that number closer to %60 which is 3x the energy from the same fuel. There are other things that are also being done to bolster our energy production and distribution like adding batteries at local substations for additional peak capacity without running all new feed wires. In the end the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) who organize global electrical, electronic, and related tech are already on the case. At the last conference there was much to say about the exponentially growing energy demand.
      Anyhow that got long AF, sorry for the Ted Talk, hopefully it was insightful.

Its truly interesting to see, and you are putting the power back in the hands of the people when it comes to making EV's practical. They want you to bring it into their service center for everything currently, and proving that you DON'T need to do that even for bigger jobs its a huge W for anyone interested in EV's, and will push the manufacturers to make them more serviceable like combustion engines. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N just won EV of the year, and to me its the first EV that makes it almost as worth owning as an equivalent new gas powered car. It's a sign of hope that there will finally be good competition in the EV market making them actually desirable. Love these vids man keep it up!

Also hats off to the Tesla employees who were willing to lend you a hand with tips and technical information needed to do the repair. This thing is on the home stretch. On another note, steer by wire is going to be coming to more vehicles from other manufacturers in the future. It’s about at cost parody with a traditional rack from an oem side and opens up lots of possibilities in terms of vehicle dynamics. If I’m not mistaken it was Bosch who made co developed this rack with Tesla. And well if you know Bosch, their modules and components are in A TON of cars.
