Hi Liam, been watching your videos for a bit now, just wanna say … thanks for sharing everything you do. You inspired me … I’m still learning and discovering the TR-8s and feel like this thing has no limits. Had a bit of a love hate relationship with it but starting for love it more and more now… anyway… merry Christmas to you..
Cool stuff! I'm doing a live gig in a week with the TR-8S and modular. IMO, it's the perfect combo and this video highlights only a few possibilities. Besides being an excellent drum machine (so I can leave my eurorack drum modules at home), it can be an effect box for modular, adding delay, reverb, (sidechain) compression (or other master FX), it can be a multitrack step sequencer (using the individual outputs + trigger output), I've even used it as a CV/melodic sequencer (using CC outputs from CTRL-knobs in combination with a MIDI to CV module and a sequential switch). Also, I can record my entire performance with it, because it's an audio interface. I love it.
The world at your feet with just a tweak of a knob .. amazing sound .. mind blowing possibilities .. thanks for inviting us back into your world of sound and wonder .. cheers! ..
Great collab video, thank you. Love these. TR8S is so good, I run mine into the external inputs on my Syntakt and route it to Syntakt FX track for a bit of drive but also to take advantage of the Syntakt FX track for pumping etc.
Gotta love the TR-8s for the possibilities its limitations make people come up with. I’ll never get rid of mine for this same reason. Like making a baseline on another instrument and importing it to be triggered once in a 16 step sequence. Then adding motion recording to give it life. Although I use my Digitakt a lot more than my TR-8s, there’s still something special about using the TR-8s feels good to me.
@@LiamKillen definitely, and I’m hoping for another firmware update to add more useful features, if not a mkII version in the works like the introduction of the Digitakt II. Regardless I’m content with what the TR-8s already does. I couldn’t have dreamed of such a machine 25 years ago when I first got into making music. Nice video btw! Makes the TR-8s stand out!
I did think about getting into modular ( limited purely to fx if only for budget reasons ) seems I was on the right track! Really appreciate this video!
@@LiamKillenYou got a sense of humour. The last time I ribbed you on something your reply was also very apt. I bought the TR8S from watching your videos. Nicely done😊
Hey Liam, great video. I’m thinking about picking up a TR8s. Several people have mentioned it only has 600 seconds of sample time. Does stereo samples take up more time (space) than mono samples? I ask because 600 seconds is 10 minutes right? I don’t think that is bad for a drum machine. Thanks
It actually is pretty good but when you compare it to something like the SP-404 mk2 or MPC, it's just a whole other lvl. The limits depend on the samples that you're using.
I’d have to agree with you on that one honestly- I’m currently working on a sampling rig with the 8S though running each voice through different FX - that’ll be out soonish - stay tuuuuuned!
Do you think the TR-8s sounds thin? I promise you it doesn’t, I’m thinking it’s just the way Viic wants it to sound I can make mine sound as beefy as hell. Remember you can edit or process the sounds/kits as you want
Run it through a preamp of some sort. I use a Boss BX-8 mixer to soft clip it a touch (or a lot!) and it sounds great. Sounds good clean too imo, but a bit clinical.
@trevormalcolm4328 Totally agree. I have owned several drum machines and samplers and this box is just instantly gratifying with no processing needed (although I like a bit of analogue mixer drive). All about the ACB stuff for me, don’t use samples on it that much
I thought you'd come to the dark side and gotten some eurorack from the thumbnail lol (don't do it, its an inescapable black hole, save yourself before its too late)

yes, that's an excellent idea. BUT, how do you then change to a new track? To this day I still have no idea about it
Hey bro do you have a link to those cables you’re using?
really appreciate the guests you have on. they drop very helpful gems and banger beats. Cheers!
So happy to have them on! I think it’s going to become a part of this channel for the foreseeable future. I love learning as much as you guys do!

Merry Christmas and thanks as always for watching :-)
What a dream setup! I’m using the 707, 8S, and 404mkii and Vic is giving me much to think about. Thanks for running such a great channel, Liam.
Thx jumbo! Appreciate you watching !
Thank you SO MUCH for the Analog Cases plug!! I have been searching for stands for my TR-8S, DJS-1000, RMX-1000, DJM-V10, Push2, etc...
You Rock! 🤩
My pleasure ! Cheers.
rad as always, I love this guest series with my whole heart
Lots more guest set ups to feature! 😊

Yet another person using that combo- and with good reason!
Many thanks from The Hague in The Netherlands. Im always learning something from your videos. Love when you dig into Techno :)
Thank you! I’m so down with techno these days- lots more to come

Yes! With all of the new updates it's become a really flexible machine :-)

Excellent video and interview 👍 love how he's using the TR8s here.
I know right!? He’s so unique with it

great video!
Thx for watching Oora!
This one is nice. The last video it was your OCD air blower that gave the best sound of all 😮
I mean if it’s funny it’s funny lol

I love the tr8s. Bit of a bummer its memory is so small but hopefully there will be more in a tr8s Mk2 in the future
I’m hoping the same thing!
air duster on point ❤ I get it OCD...I got the same one
That and also otherwise people online will complain that the gear is dusty lol
So, what is processed by the modular ? The stereo output of the TR8s using the send-return of the mixer ?
I believe so but if you want a more detailed answer hit up Vic on his socials

Which vacuum was that?
opolar air blower ! I found it on Amazon :-)
@@LiamKillen Thank you!
Is he just using the TR8? What about all those other modular stuff up there connected to it?
If you watch the whole video you’ll see!
There’s also an extended version over on my Patreon
Too shoooooort ! ❤
Patreon video is longer and I have tons of other tr 8s content that might help u out!
Love this machine but it sounds really thin and quiet by default. Could you do a video on how to process the sounds?
I’d have to agree with you on that one honestly- I’m currently working on a sampling rig with the 8S though running each voice through different FX - that’ll be out soonish - stay tuuuuuned!
thank you for saying that. I think so too. it sounds empty.

I’m fully aware!! Lol
@@LiamKillen Not to pour fuel on the fire but you should check out Theunperson he uses eurorack as effects to great... ummmm effect lol
Philips Hue cameo
I’m a Phillips hue fanboy at this point
@@LiamKillen dude, same. I have literally dozens of Hue bulbs and lamps throughout the house.
All-in-one isn't really accurate, he has a bunch of modular 😅.
The majority of the video is focused on the 8s but yeah towards the end he explains how he uses his modular set up for FX sends! 😊
Please take that loud noisy machine out of your intro. Or filter it or something.
Hahahahahahaha inc
Lol...
I’m secretly in love with you aka I’m secretly in love with a bot. Is this the movie Her?
