    “When religion and politics travel in the same cart, the riders believe nothing can stand in their way. Their movement becomes headlong-faster and faster and faster. They put aside all thought of obstacles and forget that a precipice does not show itself to the man in a blind rush until it’s too late.”
    - Frank Herbert, Dune

    I just ordered the Barnes and Noble edition the other day before seeing Part II. Had no idea there was a Folio Society edition. Beautiful book!

    the banquet scene probably was shot, given that Jessica's attire changes roughly when the banquet scene would happen

    Seeing the film for the third time today… as close to a perfect film as I can recall… I love it so much
    Paul being worshipped more quickly is fine, the minute he stepped foot on Arrakis in the first film people were already shouting lisan al gaib at him

    Frank was agnostic. He was critical of religion from a point of inquiry, not derision. A lot of folks don't notice the depths of Islamic research that went into the book. Similarly, lots of folks say "oh, he went all fashy from book 4". I think rather that he was examining the nature of power and how folks use it. YMMV.

    Hey everyone. Does anyone know is there anywhere you can buy the plain Black cover
    1999 hardback edition of dune?

    14:57 I don't care for the font of the title either. Since seeing the font/logo design of the Villeneuve adaptation, it has been the definitive take for me. All other interpretations look positively primitive by comparison. As for this book, aside from the gorgeous slip and the cloth-bound hardcover, everything else is not that interesting.

    I have the Barnes and Noble edition and fine it to be excellent and I agree with you on the ribbon. The films honestly in my opinion are better than star wars.. probably gonna get a lot of heat from that 😅

      You're not wrong. I think in the future, more people will come to agree with that statement. The films are masterpieces, imo

    Its saddening to hear that Herbert was critical of religion. As a Catholic I find Dune highly motivating to pursue my religion more devoutly as this tale truly is a warning about false messiahs and zealous militant religious fanatics. All the more reason to cherish Catholicism.

      @iggyecho1 2 місяці тому +20

      Why is your god less "false" than the others? I think Herbert's novel is critical of all blind faith.

    • @RobbieB2606
      @RobbieB2606 2 місяці тому +15

      What? The message of Dune is clearly to beware of blind faith in religion, and that all power corrupts, even if based from noble intention. How you can find Dune affirming of Catholicism is baffling.

    • @Bearsfan131
      @Bearsfan131 2 місяці тому +1

      @@RobbieB2606 are books not art? It's in the eye of the beholder. Perhaps not Herbert's intention but it doesn't mean someone can't find some more obscure meanings.

    • @NateNakao
      @NateNakao  2 місяці тому +4

      That's an interesting takeaway. How is this a warning against false Messiahs? Where do you see a false Messiah in the story?

    • @MrVerces
      @MrVerces 2 місяці тому +1

      If you folk think I'm going to explain faith to a bunch of atheists and non-believers you have another thing coming lol. This term "blind faith" doesn't mean anything. "ignorant atheism"

    Star Trek Star Wars comics everything great has been taken from you. Race and gender are important in dune. You guys have nothing good happening. I feel so sorry for you all
