Especially with S2 introducing so many new characters, I feel like there are a lot of interesting comparisons to be made there (like Turak and Ingtar, who look completely different to their book counterparts), and they have such a wide cast to choose from.
That is probably my favorite breakdown of Leto II's development I've ever seen. Always loved his book description, but most art I've found of him always makes him into some kind of stylized pillar with a head instead of an organic entity merging two completely different shapes of life. Plus the book frequently features him slamming around and using his massive body as a weapon, and that absolutely comes through in the final drawing. Great work!
I so love your character depiction series from books, your illustrations truly are a gift to us, readers and fans of the stories you chose! Thank you so much for sharing, I hope you will continue this for a long time! 🙏🏼☺️

This is the first time I’ve seen a video of yours, very impressed and hooked! I have yet to see a better Leto the Second, exactly how I imagined in the books! Super cool!
I saw a picture on an art site where the artist was complaining that so many films go for dark grey/ black for all of the uniforms and the like in the various Dune adaptations, and they wanted to show them in more flamboyant colours that would fit better with the "noble houses" themes. Amusingly (doubly so since they didn't seem to do it this way), in a twist on the normal schemes, the Harkonens wear blue (specifically, Sardaukar in Harkonen livery are described as being in blue), while the Atreides wear green and black (or so their banner is described). So book-accurate uniforms/ livery/ etc might be an interesting video to follow with.
Eh, books don't matter much. All they truly care about is the overarching narrative, which is person of "the tribe" using an army of brown people to take out the evil wyt skinhds. Rinse and repeat! Its hard to find a sci-fi movie that deviates much from this subtext.
Ironically the David Lynch got the colors right - the Harkonnens are wearing blue, the Atreides wear green. And then SyFy mucked around by making the Harkonnens in red.
That seems to be a Hollywood thing. Every time something is vaguely medieval (the feudal system in Dune counts) they default to this grey/black aesthetic. They do it for actual medieval movies, for anything Viking, who wore really colorful clothes not black-dyed leather and furs. They also did it in GoT and now in Dune.
@@shadowfox009x You can blame the cynical 90s for that. That was when every medieval / ancient set movie and TV show suddenly wanted everything in browns and beige and black.

This absolutely made my morning, thanks for sharing your art! I loved the approach and concept of comparing the actual descriptions, especially with Leto the 2nd! Some of the drawings of him out there are just so bizarre 😂
I really love your interpretations of these characters. They match much more closely with what I imagined when I read the books. Both movie adaptations had their good points and Dune isn't a book that lends itself easily to a motion picture medium. But I think both the 80s movie and the current movies have made that transition pretty well. I really enjoyed this video - especially your budget still-suit in the beginning. It was surprisingly effective! 😂

I love the old and the new cinematic Dune, but ... I think I would have preferred the had made it like you drew them.
Oh my gosh, your Leto II sketches and finals are brilliant!! We don’t have enough Leto II depictions in the world. I loved every second of you making them!
Fantastic video! I love the finished representations - maybe Jazza could create a whole Dune diorama? The representations of the ships and locations in the moves are also “interestingly” interpreted in the movies. I’m surprised that Fayd didn’t have brighter red hair, but then again, that might be Sting flashbacks…..
He looks just like a Average American with a SciFi float belt instead of a Scooter. Honestly, the 2000s series did it better. The actor was an actual very fat man and they made him extremely evil and disgusting.
They got him pretty spot on in the new adaptation. He is described as weighing 200 Kilos (441 Ibs) which is how he looks in the films. Other than the weight though he. Isn't supposed to look “disgusting” that was something Lynch added.

I LOVE that you did Leto II. He’s one of the most interesting characters in the entire series. I’m a little sad that the movies might not get to him. But glad there are artists like you that can fully realize what they may look like.
The "Chani" looks like how others draw the "Honored Matres" from the later books except with all blue eyes instead of all orange (from synthetic spice produced in Tleilaxu axolotl tanks).
I had read the books, years ago, and both your early Leto concept and the final god-emperor form were closest to what I had envisioned then. With Feyd-Rautha I think you got very close. I find the figure in the painting titled "Bacchus", by Caravaggio, closely resembles the book's own description. But, with a more sinister look. Chani, I had forgotten entirely that she was supposed to have more elongated, elven features, with long red hair. Neither actresses that played her in the films resembled her description. But, that's due to the individual visions and choices of the directors.
Great concept art based on the book, especially of Leto II early and late in life. I don't especially care that filmmakers deviated from those described on the written page. However, it's fun to realize them in other media.
Thoroughly seconded! I remember reading the books for the first time and being surprised at just how different some characters especially were described.
I had never heard of Dune. Now I'm too scared and a bit grossed out to look for it... 😅 But I was mesmerized by watching and listening about the scary worm--man that you made. You Australians really don't mind not being on top of the foodchain, do ye? 😂

You forgot to show pictures from the sci-fi Dune miniseries tsk tsk. Yes i know the CGI in it looks like something out of an early playstation era, but for what it was it was good and certainly more loyal to the book than the movies. Also please do a part two with Baron Vladimir Harkonnen who in the book does NOT float around like a balloon ( i honestly think ever since Jodorowsky wanted to do that it has stuck in all future media adaptations of the book). Baron Vladimir Harkonnen in book is monstrously fat yes, but he doesn´t float. He wears anti-gravity belt so that his feet and legs only have to carry around 50 kilos of his total weight. He also like to molest young boys, and does so unapologetic, he even comments at one point that its a pity that Paul (who is 14-15 at this point) has to die since he got such a pretty mouth. Also do a picture of Alia both as a child and as an adult influenced by the memory/ghost of Vladimir Harkonnen.
Cant Vladimir Float if he needs to? I havent read the books, but a Friend talked about it when we were watching the 2000s series (And the Lynch Film.... dont talk about it) He has used that to avoid the poison Cloud when leto died and his body floaten a little around after he died, wasnt that what happened? Oh, also Interesting that the series was actually faithful to the Character in the Child thing, I thaught that was just to Show "that man is evil"
@@mordiHarbinger No not that i recall. In the book Leto mistakes Piter de Vries for the Baron and lets out the poison in his tooth. Its enough to kill Piter (as he is really close to Leto), but the baron legs it out of the room and escapes. The only time the baron "floats" is after Alia kills him with her gom jabbar. The baron floats a few millimeters of the ground.
@@mordiHarbinger Yes and no... The movies often like to portray him as over the top evil or sinister. That´s not the baron of the book. If you watched the Game of thrones tv-series he is more of a Tywin Lanister character then anything else. Here´s a quote from the book: "Sometimes I wonder about Piter," the Baron said. "I cause pain out of necessity, but he... I swear he takes a positive delight in it. For myself, I can feel pity toward the poor Duke Leto. Dr. Yueh will move against him soon, and that'll be the end of all the Atreides. But surely Leto will know whose hand directed the pliant doctor... and knowing that will be a terrible thing." "Then why haven't you directed the doctor to slip a kindjal between his ribs quietly and efficiently?" Piter asked. "You talk of pity, but --" "The Duke must know when I encompass his doom," the Baron said. "And the other Great Houses must learn of it. The knowledge will give them pause. I'll gain a bit more room to maneuver. The necessity is obvious, but I don't have to like it." So the Baron in the book isn´t some evil over the top character. He´s a political schemer, who does what is needed to advance his house´s power. Though he still likes to molest young boys. Feyd-Rautha does try and kill the baron by planting a poisonous needle in the thigh of a boy, which looks like how the baron likes them. The baron beats that boy to death and admonish Feyd for this saying he just needs to be a bit more patient and he will get everything.

Great work!
I would absolutely LOVE a part 2 of this! I’d love to see your take on Alia or Princess Irulan. There’s so many dope characters in Dune to draw
I so love your character depiction series from books, your illustrations truly are a gift to us, readers and fans of the stories you chose! Thank you so much for sharing, I hope you will continue this for a long time! 🙏🏼☺️
Especially the creature design of the emperor was really executed really well! I also really like the sketches of his evolution
In case you are wondering.... Jabba the Hut is basically Star Wars' Version of Leto II
Without Dune there would have been no Jabba the Hut. and without Gurney Halleck and Duncan Idaho there probably would have been no Obi-Wan and no Han-Solo
I absolutely love these simpler videos were Jazza works on interpreting characters! Love them! His incredible talent truly shines in these!
I LOVE your traditional art so much!!!
I think Jazza should try crotchet amigurumi, because he already tried the knitting. And I need to see someone else trying to make sense of amigurumi who hasn't tried it before.
Brilliant idea
I actually love your digital art you did, I have been doing realism digital art but struggle with shading and your mistake actually made me how i need to shade! I for some reason never considered the shadow the nose gives and how to use diffrent brushes for shading!
The very first Jazza video I ever watched was about drawing Harry Potter characters as they were described in the books, so this video was very nostalgic for me. I absolutely love your art style and your videos! Keep up the good work!!
I will have to go see!
Man a fan of a year? Glad you’ve bumped into his videos, I’ve been a fan of him for coming up on ten years now. I highly recommend you check
Put a lot of his old stuff.
@@Logan_Irrelevant Umm I've been watching him for a while? About a year now.
@@Sapphic_Kai yeah my bad, realized the dating issue but couldn’t find the original comment to edit it. Thanks for the reply, a year is still a short bit though yk?
@@Logan_Irrelevant Yeah, I guess it is in the grand scheme of things.
Your Leto II renditions are stunning, I'm in awe
As an artist myself, actually getting to see the moments where things don't work out how you planned is actually incredibly inspiring. Nothing like being reminded that your heroes also struggle with landing a concept sometimes, and the difference the change in medium made was brilliant
It’s true😁
Ahhh Man! Gotta say I appreciate what you’ve created - it’s sooo close to what I would have created as well given the Herbert Description!
This was awesome! You did a great job on Chani especially, she looked almost exactly like I imagined her. I would have loved to get some of the even later books too, maybe see how you would draw the spider queen.
Wow you’re insanely talented!!
Wow, what a fantastic video! I loved your Leto the second, terrifying! Thank you so much for your honesty with your struggles in the first picture, it gives us non professional, hobbiest artists a more realistic view of creation. Thank you
I love how Jazza is such an incredible artist and he's not afraid to show us that not everything he draws is perfection. Even pros have ups and downs. As an artists that is great to see and not put so much pressure on myself.
Duuuuuuude!!! God Emperor is my favorite of Frank Herbert's original Dune series, and Your final design for Leto II is EXCATLY as I imagined him. Incredible work!
Glad to see Jazza felling himself again! This was such a pleasure to watch!! 😊
Solid Leto II design! I love these!
love it. your leto 2nd was great!
This was phenomenal!!! I *LOVE* your interpretation of all of them, but Leto II as a kid the best!!
Feyd-Rautha looks like rumplestiltskin in the books- like shrek rumblestiltskin and chucky have a baby= feyd ruatha. A hint of Micheal Jackson? XD
A hint of Smeagol. The Bene Gesserit are very thorough in their gene harvesting.
I definitely saw the Michael Jackson the most lol
... it's disconcerting how close you got to how I imagined them back then when I read the books. I love the books. I think his son did a bng up job concluding them. I never thought that would still happen yet and I was so happy. Iain Bank's Culture and Frank Herbert's Dune probably are my most loved sci-fi series ever. I love the old and the new cinematic Dune, but ... I think I would have preferred the had made it like you drew them.
your art of Leto II is the best I've seen
i got so excited when you first alluded to drawing Leto II! I absolutely love the drawings
I love your interpretation of Leto II
Oh my gosh, your Leto II sketches and finals are brilliant!! We don’t have enough Leto II depictions in the world. I loved every second of you making them!
Fantastic video! I love the finished representations - maybe Jazza could create a whole Dune diorama? The representations of the ships and locations in the moves are also “interestingly” interpreted in the movies.
I’m surprised that Fayd didn’t have brighter red hair, but then again, that might be Sting flashbacks…..
I honestly like the portrayals of the Dune characters from the David Lynch movie with Kye Mcloughlin, Patrick Stewart, and Sting
Vastly better than the bland remake.
The only complaint I have is that you didn't make Feyd's black blade!
You nailed everything else! Good job!!
Wow, i admire so much people who have this talent
My biggest problem with a character design in these new movies is that they didn’t make baron vladmir harkonnen nearly fat and disgusting enough
@@rayfeighery3245 To be fair, 200kg was extremely fat during Frank Herbert’s time.
Sure, it’s still fat today, but probably more terrible for old Franky boi than it is for us.
@@freddykrueger8076Nothing to do with dune but Homer Simpson is said to be 236lb in the early seasons yet he's talked about as if he's morbidly obese.
@@devilmikey00 isn't that considered morbidly obese? I was certainly made to feel that way back when I weighed around that, BMI says so I'm pretty certain
Absolutely brilliant art and character realisation, thank you so much. You are of the freehand Fremen!
OMG! It's been more than a decade since I saw Jazza. I am filled with love for this dude, I was depressed and was living because I was diverting my attention to drawing and gaming, Jazza was one of the constants and his energy gave me enough positivity to keep moving.
My god it's been so long, since I heard that intro and that voice.
Thank you for existing and thank god for making you.
Love the Leto variations. Probably the best interpretations Ive ever seen.
Those drawings of Leto were epic!
Your interpretations of Leto are INSANELY GOOD!! I love that yiu gave us the progression of his transformation. Brilliant and grotesque!
i love this series, the differences between book and movie seem to mostly make sense as someone who's read/seen neither 😅 maybe i should and then come back to this and see if my opinion changed
Dude I loved this vid!! as both a dune fan and a jazza fan! Really appreciated the honestly with scrapping the first version of feyd, it was super relatable as an artist. Peace bro!
Who else can’t wait until Dune 3 comes out???
So cool the fact that you try to depict Leto II too
I love this. May I request Baron Harkonnen and Paul for the next video??
I LOVE THIS SERIES SO MUCH AAAAAA
The Sci-Fi channel actually did an adaptation back in the 2000's that I found enjoyable. Big fan of the Dune books and universe.
You’re such an amazing artist Jazza!! These drawings are insane 🤘🏽
That start or the vidoe 😂
COMEEE GETTT YOURRRR DINNNERRRRR
I LOVE that you did Leto II. He’s one of the most interesting characters in the entire series. I’m a little sad that the movies might not get to him. But glad there are artists like you that can fully realize what they may look like.
man this guy knows what people want
Of all of the book-to-image interpretations you've done, this is your best.
Very cool. It was interesting reading all 6 books. I think Frank Herbert would be happy seeing those character drawings.
Oh man! Not discounting the time and practice you undoubtedly put in but what a god given talent to draw like that. Bravo ✍🏻
YES! FINALLY SOMEONE ACKNOWLEDGES DUNE SEQUELS!
Really great designs! Congrats!
Nightwing?
You never cease to amaze me, Jazzy. You're so talented and you come up with such good content as well. Cheers to another great video!
Your versions of Leto II are awesome! I really like them and your style! 😁
Great concept art based on the book, especially of Leto II early and late in life. I don't especially care that filmmakers deviated from those described on the written page. However, it's fun to realize them in other media.
Is there a possibility of you doing a Jurassic park one if it's ok?
Thoroughly seconded! I remember reading the books for the first time and being surprised at just how different some characters especially were described.
Your illustrations are just AMAZING!!!! Subbed 🥰👍
You accidentally created Michael Jackson 😂
💯
Hee, hee. Watch out for the second moon walk.
@@onetruetroy 🤣🤣🤣
BAM! I am not alone.
I was about to comment that
Amazing drawing skills, I'm impressed!
0:02 bro is not the lisan al gaib
I absolutely love the drawings and my favourite is definitely the In between faze
The first character in digital version looks like Michael Jackson
Was my first idea, too. I wondered, when he begins to sing "Thriller".
I absolutely loved this! And, yes, that is what I imagined for Leto II.
I had never heard of Dune. Now I'm too scared and a bit grossed out to look for it... 😅
But I was mesmerized by watching and listening about the scary worm--man that you made. You Australians really don't mind not being on top of the foodchain, do ye? 😂
I mean... Australians are practically Catachans from 40k, LOL.
I've never read the books since they sounded freakish to me too. But I watched both of the new Dune movies and honestly, they are some of the best movies I've seen so far. I highly recommend watching them.
Jazza, being able to show us the viewers that content creators are not all perfect in the things they do is the main reason why I subscribe to your channel. Thank you for being a breath of fresh air and for show the reality in life life and art.
I havent read the books, but a Friend talked about it when we were watching the 2000s series (And the Lynch Film.... dont talk about it)
He has used that to avoid the poison Cloud when leto died and his body floaten a little around after he died, wasnt that what happened?
Oh, also Interesting that the series was actually faithful to the Character in the Child thing, I thaught that was just to Show "that man is evil"
@@mordiHarbinger Yes, he can levitate up to a certain degree. If we assume that suspenders can be regulated then he would be able to no problem.
@@Erikjust ah OK, i see.
It does suit him tho, being that menacing floating fat guy. Not the worst Choice the movies did
@@mordiHarbinger Yes and no...
The movies often like to portray him as over the top evil or sinister.
That´s not the baron of the book.
If you watched the Game of thrones tv-series he is more of a Tywin Lanister character then anything else.
Here´s a quote from the book:
"Sometimes I wonder about Piter," the Baron said. "I cause pain out of necessity, but he... I swear he takes a positive delight in it. For myself, I can feel pity toward the poor Duke Leto. Dr. Yueh will move against him soon, and that'll be the end of all the Atreides. But surely Leto will know whose hand directed the pliant doctor... and knowing that will be a terrible thing."
"Then why haven't you directed the doctor to slip a kindjal between his ribs quietly and efficiently?" Piter asked. "You talk of pity, but --"
"The Duke must know when I encompass his doom," the Baron said. "And the other Great Houses must learn of it. The knowledge will give them pause. I'll gain a bit more room to maneuver. The necessity is obvious, but I don't have to like it."
So the Baron in the book isn´t some evil over the top character.
Amazing work! Leto II is badass!
