Awesome!!! I visited PR once back in high school and had a great time. Yeah, right now gopro has been failing to really come up with something better in quality while DJI threw this out and even Insta360 makes a better action camera

What is the mini tripod and mini ballhead at 1:41 ? Looks perfect for this configuration and smaller than the Manfrotto Pixi Mini. Also: love your use of ATC air traffic calls in the video at 5:50 LOL great job Dan
I LOVE mine for the same reasons Dan. My biggest gripe with it is the metering. If you look at the shots of you on the board, it's exposing more towards the highlights, making your face dark in the shadows. That's always been my issue when I use it on auto exposure, which is likely it's most useful setup for run and gun. I've tried all the metering modes, and it's always leaning heavy to the highlights in the meter. Wish we had a way to use exposure comp or something to make it balance the exposure a bit more 😎🙌🏼
There is a fix for that.....it's called a GoPro. 🤣

Great review. I've had my Action Camera 1 (original) nearly 4 years, has been dead reliable, never considered upgrading, DJI got it right with the 1st release. How rare is that?

That's an amazing review. Thanks for sharing. But I was looking for some issues that you faced, for example I face heating issue and battery drainage a lot. I feel that is terrible. Have you faced those issue? If yes, then please suggest some tips on it
Hey Shay! Thanks so much. So, I personally haven't had any heating issues but I rarely operate mine for a long time so that might be why. Battery drain is pretty normal for these action cameras...usually it's around an hour of battery life so just need to keep changing them.
Nice video. I use an action camera to make my video's. It's a Gopro Hero 8 black, but i use this because it's easy to use and it has a good quality of the footage. Maybe will be looking at the Osmo for a scond camera.

Great review Dan. I held off buying one because it took them so long to produce a proper mic adapter. The problem now though is that the Insta 360 R looks sooooo much better, more versatile and already has a mic input for about the same price. I'd love to see a review on that ;)
Beware of the problems with the One R.
Some noted issues: heating, fogging, bad audio, loose modulars after multiple uses, app and phone (depending what phone you are using) freezes, and Ofc, high price. Fogging of the 360 mod is the big issue now.

Yes, it fits, tilta cage is the best cage for osmo action

Thanks for the honest review!!. I bought it recently it produces huge file in 4k. Do we need to compress it before editing?
Ideally you want to keep the full file size until AFTER you edit and color correct. When exporting, you can compress it but don't compress before editing
UA-cam will do all the compressing for you. Then download the mp4 from YT studio.
just bought DJI OSMO Action and have bought and waiting for the accessories I bought and with all those in i will make my videos with the action camera. First time to own a DJI OSMO Action. Hope I made the right choice. :)

Hi Dan, love the way u explained everything in the entire video. I am kind of confused with the audio adaptor, is it possible to do the motovloggin with the Dji as I can see the audio mic is kind of big for moto vlogging, is there any alternate solution? Like are they providing any smaller ones for moto vlogging?
Thanks! So the Osmo does have a built-in mic but if you want something better, you can add any mic you want using the adapter. I used the Rode videomicro but if you can find something smaller, it will absolutely work

Hey! Pretty sure this was actually shot using the Nikon Z6! I'm using the Sony A7SIII mostly now though
5:00 - Small enough that it won't get stolen?! I've had three GoPros stolen while leaving them outside capturing time lapses. Both had my name and phone number on them. Never leave a camera unattended.
How’d you get a shot of the osmo if you shot it exclusively with your osmo 🤔
Maybe he has more than one. It's relatively cheap compared to the other gear he has and is quite useful for shooting B-roll, as he displayed quite effectively. But I'm just guessing.

I remember the image quality of my Hero 7 looking wayy better than this. UA-cam compression? The front facing screen would be really useful though
The one recieve from dji doesnt turn on or charge. Wonder how long customer service will take to resolve. Bought the camera during a flash sale where it was $229.

have you had any overheating issues? Just grabbed this today and tested it a bit. after about 25min at 4k/60fps and 24C room temp it was so hot couldn't touch the lens cap. Is it normal to be that hot? Even when turning it on and changing setting I can feel the body getting a bit warm.
I can't say I normally record that long straight. Most of my videos I'm just recording for a few seconds or minutes tops so personally I've never had that issue
@@learningcameras Fair enough. Ugraded the card to a class 3 and it seems to have solved the heating issue. Still gets warm but a lot less than before.

Did you check out the insta360? if so thoughts? What size SD card are you using?
Actually just got the Insta360 One R in last week! Been shooting with it quite a bit and I'm loving it. Have the 360 camera and the 1" sensor version. Should have a vid out on it in about 2 weeks! It's way more expensive than the Osmo though. I'm using a 128GB card but you could prob get away with 64GB if you don't mind clearing it often.
Dan Watson awesome. Thanks. The insta360 looks like a nice cam for just the 4K but it’s more expensive still. The osmo you can get with the extra battery kit for 260 at retailers.

The most important part of starting UA-cam, is just that.... starting 💕 Just focus on one "theme" of content per channel and get making "unique" content that you know about and are passionate about. The DJI action camera will help you get the shots as you see them. Use a decent 12mp smartphone for "background" footage to give additional input "B roll". Edit to remove awkward sections. Be yourself and show tbe world what you see. Get filming!
I totally do not understand why in this day and age this camera does not come with a wireless remote control. with all the UA-cam vlogging etc it is pretty much a must-have for any action cam these days DJI Osmo has missed the boat. They need to include a remote control with all of their cameras
the GoPro has been able to do this without the front facing camera...I use the GoPro with and external mic for my Real Estate Vlogs
Yep! The gopro can absolutely do this but that front screen makes it way easier in many cases

I feel sorry for Go Pro because they invented the action camera. It didn't exist before them. And now a company who copied them is taking their sales. But i do think competitions a good thing and the front facing camera is needed feature. I still have my GoPro 3 from ages ago. And i want to finally get something new. I will have to check out the Gopro 8 and compare it to this one. But by the time i make a decision there will be a Gopro 9. Because it seems like the new models keep coming as fast as cell phones. Yeah, well Gopro tried to go after DJI on the drone front and that that didn't go all that well hahahaha. As long as competition spurs innovation I love it and I appreciate that the Osmo Action gave me something that gopro didn't. I personally don't love the 8...it's like gopro was trying to fix something that wasn't broken. What I want to see from both brands next time is a serious step up in image quality because phones are innovating so much faster in this area!
@@learningcameras Agreed. I ended up keeping my Hero 7 over the 8. The new mount seemed a lot more fragile and they still haven't released all those projected attachments (which I'm sure would've been overpriced anyway).

@@learningcameras They did the same thing with the Hero7 right before the 8 came out. Probably just means they'll be releasing a new model in the coming months.

While I haven't used the 8, I intentionally passed because you can't change the front element and you don't get the integration of a front screen

The quality of video still suffers, it seems alot of compression applied. Looking at comparison videos it feels GoPro has better color reproduction and dynamic range. But you probably are in a better position to comment
Compression is still a big issue with both cameras and it especially suffers in darkness (even at low iso) or with lots of detail. Typically the motion Blur of sports/action can mask this but static or slow shots like in my video will show this even more. I've seen a few direct comparisons (which I haven't done) and there are times the gopro looks better and other times the Osmo looks better
The stabilization of the GoPro Hero 8 is way better...

far from 'way better' barely better, which is sad for a company thats on model number 8 and beyond vs this companies 1st go. DJI will put GoPro out of business in one year. Why GoPros stock cant even clear 5 bucks now

My dji osmo action cam just died yesterday. Used it for a year only with no extreme activities. The worst part is im on a week long vacation and i dont have action camera to record it... 😩😩😩
