Anyway, here's my question to you: Which camera is the SEXYEST in your opinion? If you could take one to bed, which one will be it and why?
dji looks the best most of the time... on my 8bit+2 tv..... oh, those extra ffiles will be gyro information for reelsteadygo stabilization, and also gyroflow stabilization free app.... both really good. and the other file is likely telemetry from gps modules.

The "angry dad walking" stability test is LEGIT!!! I need that test in EVERY camera review.
The THM file he is talking about at 7:43 is the thumbnail file and the LVR (Low Video Replay) file is a 480p file and is what you see when you playback the file on the camera. You can just change the LVR file to MP4 and watch it in all its 480p glory. The LVR file is only created when you use 24 frame files. You can change the THM file to a jpg JPEG and look at it as well. Just rename it and change the file container.
also the 4GB file size is due to the FAT32 file system being used.
7:50 my Sony A7c also does it and as you mentioned it is very annoying. Not sure why some people like to complicate things for no apparent reason.

thm = Thumbnail files. Gopro needs these files to project a thumbnail for your video files within the gopro/lcd screen
lrv = Low resolution video files. These are 432×240 versions of your video also for playback within your gopro. or rather when you display your gopro via wifi and smartphone. because with these files its much faster for you to play your videofiles back through wifi.

I’ll stick to my GoPro 10 for now. I have a face made for radio, so I normally have the camera pointed away from me, not at me. So just about any camera will work for me. I still have my X3000, and my RX0. The RX0 on a gimbal is still hard to beat, just as long as you don’t point it at yourself. The X3000 is still the pocket king, just as long as you like super loud audio. The ZV1 on a Crane 2M is the one I use the most, but I never point it at myself.

Sorry if I said this before, the sad thing is before gopro started sealing their cameras up permanently it was a very simple mod to get basically whatever focus distance you want from touching the lens macro to infinity and well beyond. It's as simple as rotating the lens, which in turn moves the lens out or in on it's screw thread. You do have to initially remove the front face if memory serves me, but after the initial crack it can be set to adjust on the fly. I know this because the problem back in the day for drone pilots was that gopro's were not set to infinity, and infinity is ideally what you want when flying over landscapes. I do remember some iteration of gopros started supposedly being set at infinity, or closer to. Bottom line is you can get what you want with a hero 4 or earlier, but of course you loose stabilization. I am fairly certain you could break open an 11 and do the same though.. if they don't make it perfect, break open and make it perfect.

Those extra files are low res previews you see when you use the mobile app. You can change the extension to mp4 and use them as proxies.
In GoPro these extra files are: thm is the miniature for gallery, the lrv is low resolution version of main file and it is used by camera to play video on their tiny screen. Also it can be used as proxy file for edition.
what we need is a prosumer 1" camera with tiny lenses and some photo controls...there's a few channels making homebrew mods with C, D mount and 8mm lenses

FYI : One of the extra files (at least on the GoPro) contains gyro data which is great for post production stabilisation
DJI 3 definitely has better colors than the GoPro 11. The GoPro has magenta in the shadows, which looks disturbing. Whereas the DJI 3 renders black nicely, with no magenta cast. Your hoodie had a magenta cast in most of the GoPro 11 shots. But, looked accurate in the DJI 3 shots. Until the DJI 3 fixes the audio issues, I would definitely stick with the GoPro 11, even though you have to tweak the blacks in post to remove the magenta. Nice work, Kasey.
A lot of people seem to have focus problems with the OA3. You can find quite some tests and comparisons already.
But in your video it looks performing quite the same with the GoPro.
Well, even seems that your OA3 even shows more detail on your sweater etc.

Actually sat all the way through, which I never, ever do with product review videos. Enjoyed the style.
We are so many that have problems with OA3 and the softness. I have done some tests myself and there is many complains on DJI forum about it.
The dji looks surprisingly pleasing indoors for an action cam. Its a shame its so wide if you want full sensor.

@@ramanchawla5081 yes but if you dewarp its still wide it just removes the fisheye but anything in the corner sitll looks weird.
You can only change the focal length by changing the size of the sensor or by zooming digitally or optically.
Physics binds it to this.
Because the lens they chose is so wide the only way to get the full performance out of it is to use the wide shot where it used the full sensor as you cannot put a different lens on the gopro.

Brilliant review, I do agree the DJI 3 has far better colours! Only challenge is when reviewing the cams, remove your camouflages hat, we could not see you! Street crossing, angry dad walk, demon luts and double you! not more we could ask for.... Only thing missing was pigeon footage slo-mo 240.

I use a good polarizer filter on my GoPro to help the colors and contrast.
Btw I don't agree that they are not made for 'selfie' vlogs - they are exactly made for that - some people put them in front of them while doing all sorts of sports. You should really try the Insta360 Go 2 - It's working from fisheye circular 5.7K video at around 160 degrees so when it crops it's A: super stable B: decently sharp. It also has really amazing dynamic range for what it is - a tiny thumb camera that weighs like 20 micrograms

@Camera Conspiracies Have you updated the firmware on the DJI to 10 bit colors yet?
Supposedly fixes the focus issue also.
PS that DJI plastic case is primarily so you can mount it for vertical mode, the mounting clip goes on the end as well as the bottom.

I still like footages from DJI Action 3 but this review is fair enough. And definitely there seems to be some focus issue with Action 3, which is related with factory calibration process. So I decided to wait for DJI Pocket 3. Anyway I don't have money to buy Action 3 right now so got nothing to lose here. In the meantime, I'll be busy with cinema with ZV-E10.

LRV is low resolution video (mp4). I actually sometimes use them as proxy files in editing. No need to ingest in Premiere. THM is for thumbnails (jpg probably). Your little camera needs those files to show video thumbnails and play them on the tiny screens.

Funny…in several other reviews the GoPro colours looked better, with the DJI looking a bit overblown. Here I often preferred the DJI.

Which one has better internal microphone?
I absolutely love your enthusiasm and your determination to adapt equipment to try and suit your needs. But these cameras are really designed to be strapped to one's forehead for jumping out of planes, skiing down mountain slopes, diving the clear waters of some reef strewn ocean or riding your bike around wherever. Ergo, they have a ridiculous WIDE angle, virtually fish-eye angle, that captures the background quite well but struggles and frequently fails to lock focus on anything close by. Like a vlogging body! If you watch the footage where you do the 'angry Dad' march, you judder quite uncontrolably but the background maintains a rock steady view and clarity.
The slow-mo tests are the best 😂
Nice technical comparison. You clearly highlighted the flaws. Still gopro 11 is better but needs many improvement.
Your slow-mo runs are directly linked to my ability to produce serotonin.
What about the built in mic? Osmo action 1 is useless in wind. I need to have an option to go without an external mic.
During the slow mo at 21 minutes the DJI 1 and the 3 produce very different colors for the grass and the trees. Which one is closer to the real colors as you saw them ?

I think Action 1 is still decent in this comparison. And although overall I prefered GP11 I am not a fan of the price for the creators kit - that's ZVE-10 territory! Hope you will be able to play with X3 against GP11 and let us know before Christmas. 😀

This guy is a hoot. I watch these still, even though I am not shopping for a camera anymore.
They both look pretty bad in high contrast situations - when you walk with them at 4:26 one blows out the highlights but keep some shadows and the other one does the opposite.
I don't know if anyone else has asked this....did you try using the blue USB C lead from the Sennheiser mic on any other mic that you have> I have the action ! with a deity duo mic in a smallrig cage and love the setup but I'm wanting more ( not going the gopro brought). would this be something you could test ( USB C lead on another mic on the action 3) thanks for reviewing all 3 cameras...its answered nearly all my questions. cheers
I have same problem using type c microphone with action 2. It ruined some of my travel vlogs. You would never know when it will happen. I think action 3 is completely same with action 2.

So apparently there's a confirmed focus issue with the DJI Osmo Action 3 and DJI is actively rolling out beta firmware to some users. It's a little odd considering it's a fixed aperture camera and virtually the same from the Action 2?
How can firmware fix a fixed focus camera whose focus has been wrongly calibrated ?

Image quality is better on the GoPro but mine just froze so I just lost the footage from this morning.
So maybe a slightly less better image but you actually get one from the Osmo Action.
I dunno, GoPro Hero 12, please just fix the freezing issues. That can be your headliner, you work.

Those extra files drive me nuts… also the date defaulting to 2015/2016 has bothered me forever (the ten did better with it, but it is still annoying). I always forget to sync up the date of all my GoPros as the start of filming is busy for me. Thanks for this review… think I’m going to get the mini 11 black, but this was really helpful!

Very interesting comparison, especially between Action 1 and 3. I didn't expect 240fps mode to be so bad on the Action 3. I should try to compare 240fps between my Action 1 and 2 (which should be extremely similar to 3).
One thing I have to ask: are lenses interchangeable between 1 and 3? I'm having a hard time finding an original spare for my 1.
Mad respect for reviewing the latest action cams in relatively difficult conditions they weren't really meant for...Bravo! But what is up with you and bugs recently? Last few there are bugs just buzzing around your head, and even in your home here, like at 23:25, as an example. A new cologne, maybe?
On the side by sides - sometimes the blacks look better on the GP and sometimes on the DJI, they switch back and forth all the time. I guess the better one is the one you can customize more and get whatever look you want

Great review. I'm still tossing up about which I like more DJI or gopro11. The way the GoPro saves long vids is tipping the scale towards it more though.

When GoPro is more reliable you’ve made a terrible camera. I’ve had audio issues with a Hero 5 & a Hero 9. Was considering trying a DJI but not after seeing this. The Hero 10 seems to be reliable so far and not as buggy as previous versions. Hoping they can stay that way from here forward.
That whole USB-C mic thing already was the case for the Action 2. How did you miss that ? Just buy a standard USB-C DAC / soundcard dongle. They all work with the DJI Action 2 and 3.
The Cynova adapter didn't work, and my USB-C to 3.5mm dongle didn't work.
The Cynova dongle is propretary. So are the ones from the Pocket 2.
There is a raft of adapters, that work no problem. I made a video on it, when the Action 2 came out.

@@cameraconspiracies I don't disagree. Most of the cameras use a proprietary mic adapter (like the Cynova) because with a standard usb sound interface you can not charge and have the mic at the same time. It is a flaw in the USB-C design. The mic and the charge use the same pins. However DJI did move to standard sound dac support with the Action 2 in order to support their DJI mic directly. It is a compromise.

If you’re going to vlog with GoPro, you really should use the selective exposure control to spot meter on your face.

How did you GoPro 11 file transfer workout with the long files? Did you pull out the SD card or usbc to computer? When I use the usbc route they fail. SD to computer works. Thanks I am stting here staring at my footage of the rx0ii, Action 2, GP11 and Instax3 and I am asking myself WTH am I doing; also have you ever made a video and you have a opinion then when you see the footage you were wrong and feel like you I have no idea anymore? usb-c to computer works for me, the files are split in 10.7GB each if it's long enough.
Great video as always. As for the problem at 17:30 ish (not seeing the quick switching on the front screen), DJI seems to show it on the "active screen".
So, if you have been changing settings in the front screen, then the quick switch changes are visible on the front screen (but not on the back).
And I think the only point of that cage is the vertical mode (it has the magnet thingies).
Super sharp in focus vlogger would be nice. Then you can add a pro mist filter to soften things up😂

You're mentioning rotating the camera and human mouse wheels :P In a real world scenario, however, if you'd like to use the camera for POV when photographing and turning your camera to say landscape. I guess the GoPro would be more fitting for this.
I actually love how you find this detailed flaws on user experience, on practicality and image quality. This is real valuable stuff. Hopefully you review the FX30. Try the Sigma 18-50 F2.8 super small zoom lens. I think that's your cinema vlogging rig.
I have a bunch of GoPros…But the osmo action 1 is a great contender. But the GoPro sharpness on detail wins but, just looking for a budget double screen camera. The osmo action wins on that end with the low price

Looked like DJI was better in low light was you walked by that construction site. I think those wide shots are great for the batman(TV show) bad guy room look. All those brick walls and you didn't shoot one of them.... Looks like those file names are Hexadecimal on steroids.... DJI looked warmer and more lifelike in the woods. Not sure if you answered this about files: Are the files saved in chronological order now? Do you think all of the camera companies have a meeting together about how they're going to make stuff that won't work for vlogging just to make your day? Nice thorough comparison...
