Great video! You forgot one important detail that some folks may overlook or not be thinking about: disconnect the negative battery cable before starting this job 👍
I did mine recently without removing the tensioner. Took about 5 minutes to remove it once I took the two retainer bolts out and about 10 minutes to put it back in position to start the bolts. If you do take the tensioner out, be sure to put the bolt back in straight and to torque to spec. The tensioner bolt is known to snap off in the aluminum bracket and the repair is about $1000 at the dealer. If the alternator went bad due to oil getting into it, change the VVT solenoid gasket, it is known to leak. Good luck.
Great tutorial, just finished my dad's Pilots alternator. I'm gonna get a torque wrench and check my tightening but I know it's not necessary needed. Saved me $800 vs the local Dealer.
GREAT job with the camera angles and lighting. I wish I could see that well when I did the job, in daylight, with a headlamp strapped on. But seeing it in your video at least gave me the mental image of what I could not see.
Gah. Thank you so much! Had to change the alternator on my 2011 Honda Pilot, and you nailed it. I watched other videos, but your step by step coupled with the clear camera angles was spot on. I would have given up had I not watched this!
I spent several hours and watched many videos but could not get out the alternator (2013 pilot). I HAVE TO removed the upper alternator bracket (two 12 mm bolts) in order to remove it. The lower alternator bracket uses a 14 mm bolt with a left-side bushing. When you drop the new one, you have to drop the left face first and then push out the left busing to fit in the alternator (right-face doesn't have bushing but a flat surface). I used the 14 mm bolt on the tension pulley to release the serpentine belt.
Great video!
I only hope it’s this easy for me when I perform install 😅
In this video, you don’t mention the size of the socket for tensioner pulley
I had a hard time putting the new alternator in where the bottom bolt goes, that pin at the bottom slides back and forth if you tap it with a hammer from the inside towards the passenger side of the vehicle it’ll give you enough room to slide the alternator back in.
Thanks. With your help got the job done no problem.
Fantastic! Thanks for taking the time to produce this.
Very thorough and detai instructions video. 👍👍Thanks a lot for your posting!
I appreciate all your help love your videos I'm a tech and always look at your vids b4 Mitchel if I can 😂 hope u make many more videos
This was quite helpful. Thanks.
Appreciate the help on saving me about $1500. Though for whatever reason, my 2014 EXL did not have the tension knob and I had to use the nut on the pulley instead. In case anyone else finds themselves in the same position
SOme people are recommending removing the belt tensioner completely to make room. Did you do that or is that even necessary?
You skipped a part in the removal and instal. That was the alternator bracket bolt. It’s obvious that you replaced it, I’m having an issue with a broken bolt. What size bolt did you use to replace that bolt in the upper bracket. It stands out like a sore thumb since it’s new and shiny.
definitely more to this than when I replaced the alternator to my 2002 silverado.. lol I got a lot of studying this before I do anything
i paid $1300for new alternator at long island in ny.
Did I miss "Unhook the battery first?"
This video is terrible for showing you how to remove the tensioner / belt. It references a bolt that simply isnt there. I had to put a wrench on the pulley itself.
Easily the worst video to watch. It skips the whole part of working out the alternator. And does NOT. Show well where the tensioner pulley is go ahead and skip this video before you’re in over your head and cussing at the car
