I did this job (2016 Altima) for the first time yesterday. I decided to go thru the bottom. Removed top nut on the front engine mount, removed belt, removed tensioner, lowered subframe, loosened miscellaneous harness clips, unclipped and moved oil cooler lines out of the way, disconnected compressor connectors, removed compressor fasteners (4), lowered compressor. Then removed bottom alternator nut and long bolt Alternator top bolt, and electrical connections accessed from the top. Disconnect upper radiator hose and move out of the way to make room. After all this is done, the alternator came out with little effort thru the bottom while moving the AC compressor out of the way

I don't think they will make this design of any nissan maxima anymore. Poor engineering on Nissans part on this six cylinder vehicle. Any suggestions on your part for this design of this alternator in this type of vehicle???. Your video is excellent and I know why they charge so much for replacement of the alternator, I had no idea it was that complicated. THANKS.
This is stupid design if they had left 2 inches more clearance it would had been 40 minute job anyways u have to check for leaks usully the valve cover leaks on these front one is easy to do rear valve gasket is like $500 labor
I think it would be better if you lower a frame
Yes both !! I did lowered it like 1 inch
Took me 5 hours to do it
Not bad tho u got it done I was on it for good 2 hours!!
My girl car just started doing this and new immediately it was the alternator battery was brand new
Yeah check the output confirm and replace it
The oil filter spot is what fucked mine thanks to some odiot using thr wrong oil filter on a change
Didn’t understand? What u mean by oil filter? This is alternator job
PIA!
I just bought one and everything just died while I was driving I know it was the alternator but I didn't know it would be a pain in the ass to change the fuckin thing
Yeah this is no fun job
This is a terrible job & very hard to beat the clock at least the 1st time!
Thanks Nissan! I remember when they built a quality car... No more!
Yeah tight spot for somthing that can go bad
Just became a diy i have a 2011 maxima i should of stuck wit honda n toyota r a breeze compare to this nightmare
Yeah this one is complicated
Honda or Toyota you may not have had to replace it at all.
Same nonsense I had to do on a 2003 Nissan maxima when I used to own one. Looks like nothing really changed other than the body and junk cvt transmission. Got rid of the junk bought a Toyota Highlander and a town car never looked back! Nissan are one of the most unreliable vehicles on the market surprise they’re still in business 🤦♂️…
Yeah not friendly
F'in Nissan lol
Yup all the had to do was leave 6 inches more and it would had been easy
what terrible engineering for us mechanics
Yup
Such a crappy work space I really dislike Nissan for this
Yeah this could had been easier to do if they had good design
What a stupid design
Yeah
Failed to mention you discharged the ac and remove the back of the ac to get that top bolt.
I think I did discuss that but I didn’t remove the ac lines
That top bolt is next to impossible to get with removing the cover with the two torx bolts.
Well damn, that’s a lot, and I’m sure the dealer charge an 🦾 & 🦿to replace it
Yup it’s like $1800 they want
Question
Do you have to discharge ac system? To move the ac compressor out of the way.
Yes u do
