    Hello friends. Thanks so much for watching my Holiday Lentil Loaf Collaboration video with Belle Holiday-Rose. We have both been looking forward to doing a join video for a few months now. I am making a great lentil loaf in this video, and Belle is making some really cool side dishes to go with it in her video. Leave a comment below if you have any thoughts or questions. Dont forget to check out Belle's video for the accompanying side dishes.

    This is THE BEST!!! I made the lentil loaf for me on Christmas and now again for Easter. Unfortunately, I can’t get my husband to quit eating meat, so I am on my own. This loaf makes great leftover meals and even tastes better the next day!!
    I do increase the ketchup though to at least 1 cup or more!!🤗
    Thank you for this great recipe 👍

    Thank you so much, Joey!!! Can’t wait to make this! I make my family food that they will eat. Not vegan but give them as many fruits and vegetables and beans and while grains as they’ll eat. So because I am a busy mom, I eat the same thing every day. Microwaved potatoes, broccoli, other veggies, romaine salads, oatmeal some days, fruit everyday, etc. easy batch cooking or just microwaving and try to dedicate my time in the kitchen to making my family meals. I will make this lentil loaf and present it to them and see if they will eat it. If not, I’m sure I will easily finish it off! Thank you! Love your videos and your music!

    I used to make a lentil spaghetti sauce, but have misplaced that recipe from many years ago. It was so very good! I think using the leftovers of this loaf crumbled in a rich marinara-type sauce, served over top of any type pasta or veggies, would be even better! Thank you for the inspiration! Can’t wait to try!

    That lentil loaf looks spectacular. First I love that use two different kinds of lentils not only for flavor but for consistency purposes. Great job on grinding up your own OTNTO flower that definitely will help thicken up the loaf as it cooks in the oven with all the moisture from those fresh veggies and that sauce looks amazing I would double up the sauce also

    I like to use cooked brown rice in the mix
    and for a treat I add chestnuts
    (not too many)
    The reason for the rice is my partner loves rice
    and his family traditionally on Christmas Eve
    (they are German afterall)
    had / have a rice dish.
    I generally with rice and oats don't need a flax egg
    but might try it next time.
    PS I do like lentil loaf
    and don't really care about a "meaty" taste
    as I have been vegetarian for 35 years
    and vegan for the last year.

    • @PlantBasedDads
      @PlantBasedDads  3 роки тому +1

      The rice sounds like a great addition. Very smart. Yes, I don't associate things with meat either. I just didn't really know what to compare a lentil loaf to when describing it. Thanks so much for watching.

      @johncrwarner 3 роки тому

      @@PlantBasedDads
      Weird thing is that my non-vegan
      and non-vegetarian friends
      who have tasted my variants
      have said it tastes "meaty"
      but I think that is the umami flavour
      from the lentils and the tamari
      as well as the nutritional yeast
      Though in Britain, when I lived there,
      I tended to use Marmite which
      is a yeast extract spread.

    Hi, May I suggest skipping the step of soaking the flax meal and simply mix it with the spices before pouring in cooked lentils. The flax meal will soak up the water from the cooked lentils and perform the same thickening setting effect. Anything to make cooking easier! This can apply in virtually all cases when you previously did this vegan egg mixture when cooking. Hope this helps.

    Last week I followed a lentil loaf recipe with the same sauce as yours, ketchup maple syrup and balsamic, and it was awful! I couldn’t eat it and rather than throw it out I made a tomato onion sauce and added the loaf, which ended up being like a chili, and I could eat it. I had assumed it was the ketchup sauce with the balsamic that made it fail. However, perhaps it was the other seasonings in the loaf, and the recipe didn’t have red lentils. Maybe I’ll give this one a try.

      Giselle, when you make this recipe, add only half the oats like I did, and then decide if you need the rest so it doesn't get too dry. We have been making this recipe for years. You can put just bottled BBQ sauce on top instead of the sauce I make. Thanks for watching

    Thanks so much for posting this, Joey. Did you use a food processor to get your onion, etc. finely diced? I'm excited to try this with the "special sauce."

    • @PlantBasedDads
      @PlantBasedDads  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Beth. I used a hand held chopper to chop up the onions. You can totally use a food processor too. Thanks so much for watching.

    • @PlantBasedDads
      @PlantBasedDads  3 роки тому

      Maybe put less of the oats in. That was why in the video I only put half in at first, I wanted to see if it really needed all of it. Depending on location and altitude, you may only need half of the oats. Let me know if it turns out different next time you cook it.

    Well, you've inspired me to try another recipe. I've been looking for a good lentil loaf. I tried one last week by The Jaroudi Family, which was quite delicious. I'm now going to try this one by High Carb Hannah. You made it look fairly easy. Everything is cooked and ready to go - I'm gonna put in a loaf pan and pop it in the oven. Sure hoping mine turns out as good as yours looked.

    • @PlantBasedDads
      @PlantBasedDads  3 роки тому

      If you like it less dry, leave out some of the oats. I like mine to be firm so I used all of the oats. Let me know how it turns out. Thanks so much for watching.

      @@PlantBasedDads -- Just finished eating our HCH meatloaf dinner. I didn't have an issue of dry, mine was too wet. My onion and celery stalks were large and maybe created extra liquid. Not sure. Measured everything to the letter. My husband said it was just "okay", but the texture was not as pleasing as the Jaroudi recipe I made last week. That one had, aside from the veggies, the 1 1/2 cups lentils, 1 can drained chickpeas, and 8 oz. chopped baby bella mushrooms (had to really mince those since hubby hates mushrooms). But pretty much it wasn't all that different, in terms of ingredients. The spices were a tad different (rosemary, thyme and sage). But the chickpeas really gave it a good texture. I'd make both again, but HCH's maybe not as often. Jaroudi's says it makes two loaves, but I would've made it into one loaf - I ended up dividing the mixture into a 12-cup cupcake pan, for individual servings, and for ease of freezing and snacking. And like I said, for us, it was a real winner.

      As much as I dont like to compare my food to meat, because I just dont do that, it does remind me of a meatloaf when I was growing up. I like the sauce a lot, but you can use any fat free BBQ sauce. Thanks so much for watching.

    This looks so very delicious. As you know i joined the group recently. I am in the process of just beginning to eat wfpb. I am still weaning myself off of other foods. I am so loving what i have tried so far. I’m just building a list of simple meals i will make regularly. I love to keep it simple. I just came from nini’s biscuit recipe. Good Lord I am so tempted to try them soon. Anyway I am loving your videos.

She has really helped me to see that keeping food simple is best. Every-time i go to her house, she puts out a little spread of food and its ALWAYS delicious. Thanks so much for watching.
