Hello everyone and thanks for checking out my new video on my famous mushroom meatballs. We call these "Neatballs". I have been making these for years and they are a great option for those of you who love meatballs with their pasta. Leave a comment below on your thoughts as you know I love to read and answer them. - Joey
Hi there! Sound sooo good! Question: I am so anxious to try this but the only kind of rice I have on hand is Brown Jasmine...Live too far from a grocery store that might carry that kind, so can I substitute with the Brown Jasmine?
Looks fantastic, can't wait to make them. Just found your channel; gotta love this Vegan WFPB No oil community! It just leads you to more & more & more great people with fabulous recipes!
Holy smokes! Meatballs, and not one damned lentil. Fecking hallelujah! I am going to add this recipe to next week's menu. Thanks for this fantastic recipe!
Awesome way to sneak in the health benefits of mushrooms without having to eat mushrooms lol!! I'm going to give these a shot...my kids are not huge mushroom fans and I want them to be able to eat more of them :) Hahaha ya getting in there with your hands is the way to go!. Awesome video. Thanks for the recipe :)
Ohhh Joey, what a jokester! No joke though, these meatless balls look AMAZING! No one is tired of Italian food!! I find vegan meatballs one of the hardest foods to replicate and this recipe looks like it does the trick. I want to give these a try ASAP!!
LOL funny intro. Those meatless balls are the best looking balls I have seen in a long time. Nice work :-) I always love finding me some new meat ball recipes, so thank you for this!!
First of all your shirt!!! Second of all- I'm super excited about this recipe! I've never made meatballs with rice- it's such a good idea! I've used lentils/nuts before but this is so smart! And the portabellos are in there adding that sort of umami depth. (And you know they have to be perfect in this if you don't like mushrooms but like them in these meatballs.) I feel like you can almost taste these through the screen. Thank you for this recipe!
Okay so I grew up vegetarian and I’ve never really had traditional meat balls but I’d like to try this recipe, I think I’m going to have to make some Italian food very soon!!
This recipe looks absolutely delicious!! I can’t wait to try it. Not everyone who watches and loves your recipes grew up in an Italian family. So yes I would love to see more Italian recipes. Honestly, I love all your recipes, so make what you like, because I love everything you make. Thanks Joey! I happen to love mushrooms and I’m always trying to find more recipes with mushrooms. So this one looks very good.
Thanks a lot for this recipe. It is good for guests to give something that resembles meat. You speak very fast, but that is good for me as exercise to understand the language better. Greetings from Germany.
What I like to do with my garlic not to bite into chunks of it is I use a zester to grade it down that makes it into a purée and let me tell you that is amazing.
Wow, these Neatballs look terrific! I can't wait to make them along with the sauce. As you said, a lot of work initially but then you can freeze them for many meals to come. Thanks!
This looks so good. I love mushrooms so I know I will love these neatballs. I do not have any breadcrumbs right now. Do you think oat flour would work? And that sauce, OMG I love a good marinara. Stevie loves fettucini too. My favorite pasta is angel hair. Well done Joey. I can't wait to try this.
Italian food is my favorite! I grew up with homemade gnocchi for holiday meals and also scrippelles (which no ones seems to have heard of...I guess it was a regional dish. My family was from Abruzzo region. Are you familiar with scrippelles? It's basically a very thin rolled crepe with pecorino and black pepper sprinkled inside and broth served over.
I made one similar to yours a few days ago. The main difference is it has lecithin in the recipe, and doesnt include the thickening step. I was surprised how well it actually does work with baked potatoes. Will probably try yours next time and compare. Been doing WFPB for a solid month now. It's a lot easier than I had expected it would be.
@@PlantBasedDads D'oh! (slapping my forehead) Thanks gor the reply, but I just now realized that I posted that comment on the wrong video. I was watching a video on corn butter, and I think UA-cam forwarded me to the next video on my recipe playlist while I was typing the comment. I've had thst happen once or twice before. That said, your recipe is on my list. Looking forward to it.
I enjoy 'Italian' but it's limited time & amount. I enjoy 'meat'ball subs maybe every few months but then I have gotten lazy cooking. But every so often...yum! Will keep your neatballs & try it soon.😊
This recipe looks great! I wonder whether brown rice (or other grain) would work in place of arborio rice inside the neatball? Or, would a different grain ruin the recipe?
What’s your favorite way to reheat these once they’re frozen? The stars aligned for me to make these today, but I didn’t have all the marinara ingredients, so all two dozen neatballs went into the freezer to wait until I do.
I would just let them thaw out overnight and then cook them with the meal. They will stay in the fridge too for a few days. Ok, did you taste one of them before you froze them? What did you think for a non lentil meatball?
Hi Maria. I still think we are somehow related since you have my moms' family name. I used arborio rice because that the kind of rice they use in risotto. Its much better at helping hold the neatball together.
Joey, apparently you DO like mushrooms. 🍄 You’re just particular about how you like them. I see the same all the time with people who hate tomatoes 🍅 but like them in salsa or whatever. They like them, they just don’t like them in every application.

Great visual shots; you are so clear in your instructions and your voice is great. Will make this recipe. Thanks.
I love pasta and Italian food and would love an eggplant recipe. These neatballs look great and made without lentils is amazing! 🍝
I was going to ask for eggplant too!!! I crave my NYC eggplant hero

Hi Alfons! You can slow the video down a little or a lot using Settings. You probably know that but just thought I’d throw that out there.
@@marysmith7765 I have understand everything. Thanks
So cool that you used mushrooms. I've never seen that before for meatballs
Wow! This whole dish looks delicious! I can't wait to make your Meatballs! Thanks for the video & the recipes, Joey! 💕
I'm going to use this next week to me neat ball subs
Oh you didn’t go there with the intro!! 🤪😁🙃🤣 Thanks for the recipe. I’ll definitely give this a try very soon.
Eggplant marinara and veggie lasagna recipes would be awesome.

Can’t wait to make this
Yes love this. Ill make it soon and let you know!

If you don't like mushrooms and you like this, then I am going to try this. My husband won't eat mushrooms but maybe he will like this.
Trying to wrap my brain around how to incorporate pesto into your recipe. Would appreciate any advice. Thx for recipe -- very inspiring! ❤️
Hahaha I couldn’t eat pasta for 5 years after I was married for the same reason 😂My mom is Italian ❤ Great recipe 😁‼️
I am definitely going to try these. It looks like a bit of work, but nothing complicated. And I love the idea of freezing them. Thanks!
That looks SO good!

I made the Swiss chard with chick peas!! Thank you.
Wow- one to make

We want Italian foooood 😆😆😆
I don’t know what I’d do without mushrooms. Mushrooms are mandatory.
Looks great. I love Italian food. Have you made a pizza on your show?
Here is where we disagree...I could eat Italian every day. In fact, after watching the video I made spaghetti.
Joey, approx how much garlic did you add? (That's not listed in the recipe. Also, you have 1 onion listed, but you used 2.)
I enjoy 'Italian' but it's limited time & amount. I enjoy 'meat'ball subs maybe every few months but then I have gotten lazy cooking. But every so often...yum! Will keep your neatballs & try it soon.😊
Oooh, Neatball Subs, great idea! 😋
Ohhhh I like that idea for sure!
I cannot eat spaghetti with marinara unless I mix in some cheese sauce as well. It makes the sauce super creamy! I'm all about the saucy sauce 😁
This recipe looks great! I wonder whether brown rice (or other grain) would work in place of arborio rice inside the neatball? Or, would a different grain ruin the recipe?
I'm thinking about trying it with bulgar... mmm, should work.
The arborio rice is sticky & probably would be better than regular rice.

What brand/model is your induction burner?
What kind of rice did you use? Can whatever rice I have work in the recipe? A Scoma wants to know 🤩
Hi Maria. I still think we are somehow related since you have my moms' family name. I used arborio rice because that the kind of rice they use in risotto. Its much better at helping hold the neatball together.
@@PlantBasedDads my grandparents immigrated from Corleone Sicily. You look like a Scoma!
I’m gonna look for the rice you recommend next haul.
Joey, I like you better without the beard. :)
