Thankfully, a couple other SmashTubers were real cool about Byleth. Maybe some jokes here and there about "another Fire Emblem character" or "another swordfighter" but in the end they said something to the tune of looking forward to playing Byleth regardless.
I just wish the Smash community at large had the same mindset, instead of...well, the opposite. 😑

I don't care if there's another Fire Emblem character as long as they do something unique with them. Byleth seems to be diverse enough with His/Her moveset and is not just "another Sword fighter".
I would call Ike and Corrin to be different enough too. Byleth is of course more different. But Lucina, Roy, Chrom are just too similar to Marth.

Surprise. It's not another FE Three Houses. They will make a Genealogy of the Holy War and then, add Ceryph or Sigurd.
While it is a disappointing way to close out the pass, honestly I'm really happy.
I loved Three Houses, and seeing it get Smash representation was quite the surprise.
Thats probably my only gripe with it. Its a disappointing close to a spectacular lineup. The moves look interesting enough, and regardless of how much people like or dislike fire emblem its an amazing place to draw fighters from with each game having over a dozen individual characters. so i get it, its like pokemon in its own way and they have made real effort to deviate from the basic sword with robin, corrin and now byleth. I just cant help feeling byleth should have been first in the second wave instead of last in a wave that includes such hype as banjo kazooie, k rool and ridley.
I also think people don't appreciate how unique the fire emblem "swordies" are. Yes, they all derive from a similar source, but as someone who primarily uses the swordies, when you actually use and practice with them they feel remarkably different. It's just easy to call them all the same without playing them

I think I'm the only non FE-fan who is somewhat welcoming to Byleth in Smash. He actually looks really cool with that whip sword, even if I wish they added Master Chief, Doomguy or Spyro instead. But I think it is somewhat disappointing to end off the pass with a FE character tho, that's for sure.

Agreed. Though not the most hyped compared to the other characters that I've seen previously, Byleth for sure is a very unique Fire Emblem character similar to Robin and Corrin. And hey, the fighter's pass wasn't supposed to end strong because this isn't the last character of the game. Let's not give our hopes up just yet!

It is Assassin's Creed, the name may have been changed as "Assassin" might not be a good boys and girls' word. :T
It did say Assassin's Creed in the UK version of the direct, not sure why it was necessary to censor this in the US version. - As most reactors use the US version, including Europeans, the UK version will remain the obscure version that is slightly more accurate to the Japanese version.

@@Davidpoland2005 It isn't UA-cam censorship, it's North American rating board censorship. Go watch the UK version if you want to avoid such silly censorship, as the real title was included on that stream. They audio subtitled the whole stream, and didn't leave out a part like the US version did.
Thank you for taking the character at face value and not just being mad about it being a fire emblem rep even though you haven’t played three houses. I agree with what you said; people should care a little for what their move set is regardless of what franchise they’re from.
I can kind of understand frustration of people. They want their favorite characters or big characters in and we are not really getting any of those blow away characters like Sora, Llyod Irving, Master Chief, Doom Guy, Crash Bandicoot, etc. Tons of great material to work with that we are not getting.
Honestly, Byleth is a very solid rep for FE as they finally got someone to represent all the weapon types in the game. The only real disappointment is that they decided to finish this Fighters Pass with them instead of opening the second one with them. Given how wild the last 4 were, having the last one be the expected "safe" option is a big hype killer. XD

Sure, Cuphead would've been nice to have as a character but then thinking about it he would've been too similar to Mega Man gameplay wise
I gotta say, it can be accomplished but I feel like Sakurai wouldn't have done that for an Indie rep especially THIS especific character, besides like you said, he did it to piss people off so he put an unexpected third party as a Mii costume and a FE swordboy as a character. I'm definitely giving Byleth a shot. His move set looks like a lot of fun and right up my style of play (my best characters are Zelda and Bowser and I highly enjoy Bowser Jr).

Byleth actually kinda looks like they were meant to be Monster Hunter at first but something happened so they swapped the animations and some of the moves to fit.

I'm a music completionist, so if new songs are included, just take my money for the second Fighters' Pass. In fact, I love collecting the songs so much that even if the fighters aren't characters I know or care about, I'll be excited enough to hear what music they have! For instance, I've never played Kingdom Hearts, but if Sora got it, I'd be beyond-stoked to hear Yoko's amazing compositions!

I can think of a few reasons behind Byleth's moveset. Not only do the three Heroes' Relics represent the house leaders that wield them in-game (Aymr: Edelgard, Areadbhar: Dimitri, Failnaught: Claude), but also the fact that anyone can use and train with just about any weapon type in Three Houses.
I knew we'd be getting a Fire Emblem rep at some point. I'm just disappointed that they put it in the pass where every other fighter has been 3rd party.

The fact that Sakurai sincerely asked fans to not take this to heart and try understand where he is coming from shows how inundated he must be with toxic fans crying about "too many sword fighters" and "too many Fire Emblem characters." Sakurai is a precious soul who genuinely loves his work and is passionate to a fault, even over a series like FE we all already know about. And to hear people deride his work as a "wasted slot" because its not to the specific demands of the fanbase is just sad. I feel sorry for him and his team, dude. We don't deserve such a man like Sakurai.

@@lyze3373 I work for another large Japanese Company like Nintendo in a Corporate setting. It is manufacturing and I guarantee you it is far more stressful than Nintendo. You have to keep products coming to keep production or you shutdown a plant. Not fun. I would trade jobs with him. I would also went out and have gotten you a better Fighter Pass instead of what he did. You would have likely saw Sora, Master Chief, and Doomguy. (I liked the Banjo and Hero pick so I would have kept them two).

I never liked banjo and Kazooie but I consider smash representation something special. I love them in this game and I can’t wait to play Byleth in smash. He looks really unique in his play style

That’s the best part of Smash. Of course I was triggered when the identity was revealed, then l learned that the Sword is part whip and there’s more weapon variety and started to open up more and more to the character. Same thing kind of happened with Corrin.

Ha, get screwed all ya haters. Honestly though there are a lot of FE characters in smash but all the newer ones have atleast been really unique, I mean Byleth really isn't much of a swordfighter, I mean he/she uses the sword less than joker uses his dagger, and even then most of those are in the form of a whip which is also a weapon we don't see THAT much in smash.
There’s a sharp contrast in Byleth’s personality. Female has wide eyes and is more expressive, Male gives me that grim, menacing vibe

I feel like most people are disappointed because the majority of people expected another 3rd party character, as it would make sense for all of Pack #1 to have a running theme; e.g. all from 3rd parties. Then having pack #2 as all Nintendo characters, personally I don't mind another FE rep, but it'd probably make more people happy if they were the first fighter in Pack #2
