I just acquired three 1943 steel pennies from my dad's coin collection, which he had been compiling since the 70's. Only one of them has a D mint mark, though.
I have also been finding a numerous Wheat Pennies. I have about 20-30 more pounds of pennies to sort through, to be sure I didn't miss anything. The oldest is a 1909, with a close follower of 1920. Neither with a mint mark.

Actually the ammo angle is a myth , Copper and the tons of silver that was never recovered where used for centrifuges for the Atomic bomb ,.

Just had a 1942 aluminum one stolen from my apartment. I know who ended up with it, they quit their job at the dollar store and just came back from a two week vacation in Hawaii! THAT was my retirement, now I get to work til the day I drop dead, hope karma visits them soon!!! SMH/FML
