    Right, back when I came up playing golf, the standard driver was 43" and I could smash them with good consistency, even hit some fairway shots with that club. It was one with 9.5 loft-(TM Pittsburg Persimmon on a Ti shaft!).
    These monster sticks of current years I'm just now trying to get a handle on. A shorter handle may indeed be in order.

    I personally have had no issues cutting 1/2 to 1 inch off a stock length shaft. Almost all aftermarket shafts are sold at 46 and have to be butt trimmed anyway..... I've done it a ton and I have never noticed any difference except a completely better relationship with the club....

    Good information! I remember my grandfather had a ridiculously long driver, and was pretty inconsistent with it!

    These average driver lengths on the PGA have gone up recently. However, I cut an inch off my new Epic Max, brought the swing weight back up with lead tape on the top/rear of the club head, and am fiddling with the +1/+2 settings.

    Great info, thank you! I had an old EI-70 shaft with .350 tip in reg flex (from an old TM 3 wood) lying around doing nothing. I also had my old R7 driver at 45 or so inches long not being used. Love that driver so I decided to experiment and marry the two and since the R7 has removable weights on the head. Swapped into the R7 the EI-70 and it came out to 43.5" long. I then added extra weight to the head via those removable weights the R7 has (I had heavier ones lying around also). I do have a golf scale so that certainly helped. Now, the driver has excellent heft to it at 43.5" long... not too light and not a sledgehammer either... just perfect. I have never driven the ball so well.

    I play a Ping 43" G425 Max 12° (play at 13.5°) w/ Graphite Design Tour AD XC-7 (S) - No loss in distance (may hit it farther), but hit 50% more FIR! *not exaggerating 👍👍

      I just cut mine down to 42.75"... instant improvement on accuracy.

    • @RollYourRock
      @RollYourRock 3 місяці тому +1

      @@LanceCampeau Lance, I should have mentioned that my shaft is a higher-end ($200+), aftermarket 3-wood shaft. When cutting down your stock driver shaft it will improve accuracy because you'll be hitting the center of the face more often, but the flex points/bend profile will be compromised. By going to a quality 3-wood shaft, you'll have just as much control and more "pop" besides... Have a great season!⛳🏌‍♂

    Does this apply to reshafting rather than cutting down a stock shaft? Would you have to add weight to the head with a reshaft?

    Hi...enjoyed your vid...
    When you say ricky plays 43.5" is that measured with the shaft in the clubhead or from tip to butt end...Tks...

    • @heisergolf979
      @heisergolf979  3 роки тому +6

      That's measured with the club head on and you measure the club,if you put the club on the ground in the set up position, like you are going to hit the club, then measure for the the ground straight up the shaft to the end of the grip

    sorry if I'm hijacking this very great shaft video, but I feel the same way with oversized driver heads (460cc) ..... you just can't ' work ' them like the smaller heads (like the Callaway 415cc I just got ! ) Wooooo Hooooo !!!

    • @rushfanjames2112
      @rushfanjames2112 2 роки тому

      I still have many of the older drivers still. You’re right, the smaller heads are actually more workable and easier to swing.
      The large 460cc heads are like swinging a 50gal drum lol
      I still use my biggest big bertha 6.5° driver. It still goes out there.

    Hey I know this is off subject. My Callaway driver is $5 inches 10.5 loft. Im76 years old My drives are around 210 yards and almost in the fairway club head speed is 86 mph. My question is about 3 woods when i have tried to use one it goes the same distance as my 5 wood. The 5 wood goes 170 to 180 yards. Maybe my club head speed isnt fast enough to get a 3 wood up in the air. Any thoughts ?

    • @heisergolf979
      @heisergolf979  3 роки тому +5

      I would cut your 3 would at 42 in. As far as your hybrid, the hybrid should be cut to the length of the iron it's replacing

    So let’s say I bought a SIM off the shelf. I can’t go to a shop and have them shorten or tip the shaft at all? How would the manufacturer do it any different? Not understanding what your solution is if you bought it off the shelf and it’s too long, which is going to be most case scenario

    • @heisergolf979
      @heisergolf979  3 роки тому +2

      The manufacturer won't do it any different. All they want to do is sell golf equipment to make money. That's why it is so important to get custom fitted for your driver and your driver custom built to your specifications.

    Moved my G400 SFT driver from 45 3/4 length to the G400 3 wood shaft ( 43 inches )...could you anyone help me with the assessment of weight I need to head put back on it ?

    • @Jus4kiks
      @Jus4kiks 2 роки тому +1

      Supposedly if you cut down your driver an inch, it would take 12 grams added to the head to get the swing weight back to what it was. But since it is a 3w shaft it maybe different. You could search online for the weight of a 3w head and add enough back to the driver head to match.
      Lead take on Ebay/Amazon, then keep adding until you feel you like it. That is the best way imo, then you play the swing weight you prefer.
      Happy tinkering!

    No law says you can’t choke up an inch or so. Use that extra for a counter balance. Brooke Henderson has a 46” shaft, but she chokes up about 3”.

  • @pulldpin67

    After cutting 2 inches off...can't you just add some lead tape to the head of the driver?

  • @eggsmann594

    I know this sounds abstract but it's true (for me) that I can ' control ' a longer shaft (45.75") better than say - 45" or 44" shaft of equal SW - if hitting A to B straight down the middle.
    But, when 'working' a long shaft driver (rt to lf, lf to rt, high launch or low runner) FORGET IT !
    So, that comes down to what you think ' control ' means🤣

  • @sodthong

  • @eggsmann594
    @eggsmann594 2 роки тому

    and I can't Pump it ! or Jack it ! with the longer shafts....terms I use with the shorter shafted drivers :) ... where 'control' could be 50/50 lost ball !

    Ok, my drivers, got 3 of them is 47 inch long, I have lenghten them myself, from ground to butt end it is! Why do so say you? Ansver is I have a very short backswing, 3/4 of normal, therefore I can contol length and hit balls further than most of my friends, longer shaft more speed i get!

    At 5' 7" I cannot possibly keep proper control of a driver longer than 41 inches. No point on Earth hitting 240 yards carry with zero roll due to landing 50 feet wide of centre-fairway (also known as the thick rough). Just not enough content out there to expose the lie of the club & shaft companies.

      So me being 5’8 using a 45.5 standard TM SIM is wrong then 😂 no wonder I can’t hit a fairway, I play off 7 and I’m always playing from the rough or trees, should I maybe look at going to 43.5/44? And if so, did you take it off the butt or tip ?

    • @cwugrad396
      @cwugrad396 3 роки тому +1

      Stephen Watson I bought a Cobra Xtreme in the tour length which comes at 44.5” so I didn’t have to mess around with the swing weight since they put heavier weights in the head, the 45.5” has a 6 gram weight and the 44.5” has a 14 gram weight. If you cut the shaft you need to add weight to the head
