Live stream this Saturday: www.youtube.com/@ShootieSchool/live ALSO check out JonaHalls's post below commenting on proper workflow. I'm gonna look further into it myself.
When my machine is unboxed from my move, I'll do a short video on my alt channel and drop the link.
It's really easy.
I'll show extending the timeline, changing time signature, and also how to break it into any note duration, quarter notes, 8th notes, 16th, 32nd, and even 64th for diehard metal heads.
Give me until Friday next week to get my home studio set back up and I'll be glad to show how I'm using all the toontrack products in FL with links back to your channel for content on toontrack because you're the master there and I'm just a happy student.
Thanks man
I'll even link the base template in my comments section to get going making music instead of setting up FL over and over.
Thanks for doing this, I play rock, blues, metal.. and enjoy putting things together in FLS.
It's an amazing program that is very enjoyable to create music with.
Most people who hate on it never used it at production level.
Love and respect your work ✌🏻
Thank you for saying, Virtual!
Agree 💯
Flstudio user with recently obtained toontrack plugins....Learnt a lot from this tutorial...thank you so much....lots of love!!
Great to hear!
Omfg, I've been beating my head against a wall trying to get EZ Drummer and EZ Keys to work right! This is awesome, thank you for making this
Great to hear!
I asked a question awhile ago, which you graciously answered!, and you also commented why I’m not using EZDrummer3 in my DAW. Well ,this video answered it for both of us! Thank you!! Now I can finally use my EZD3 in my FL Studio. I too make my own templates.
Thanks again Shawn
I love success stories! Thanks for taking the time to say!
One of these days my curiosity will force me to explore the unique benefits and features of FL Studio and Ableton. But as of right now, as a guitar and vocals Americana type artist, both of those DAWS look like spaceship control consoles to me.
Well I’m not recommending it to you, you’re already on two daws if I remember. But I will say the price is right if you decide to do some EDM stuff since FL does come with a bunch of stock instruments, presets and templates. I like the look as well, it’s fun.
Had no idea you already had this vid! You are great man
Thank you!
great vid by the way and an invaluable time saver for the un initiated in FL studio or the ones that are beginning to incorporate Toontrack products in FL studio. Thanks!
Tank you, Ed!!
Thanks Shawn, hat is exactly what I discover yesterday with your help. Hopefully when I have a project finished it all translate at the time I want to consolidate all my tracks to be converted into a wav file
I think you'll be all set. But shoot me a Discord message otherwise.
Also, I'm hoping this video may trigger some additional feedback that we can benefit from. For now, this is the workflow I'm promoting.
Wonderful Video to maintaining Toontrack workflow in FL....
Great to hear!
Excellent VId! Been searching how to "workaround" that FL STUDIO / EZ DRUMMER 3 challenge! Thx
Great to hear!
FL has a better way by using patterns as building blocks in pattern mode to use in songs, then painting patterns to tracks in the timeline in song mode.
To achieve this, drag your EZ drummer midi you've created to a blank channel rack spot in pattern mode and set the mixer channel for it.
What this does is allows you to build "riffs" if you will, for example and paste them in the timeline where you want them in your song.
However, it's better to drag your drums to its own pattern in pattern mode, not song mode, then paint the timeline with your drum pattern to follow the theme of this video.
What happens is it's designed for patterns that are a measure long initially and preset at 8th notes and 4/4 to start with which you can easily extend the timeline to any length you want through your settings and can even change the metre tempo, add markers etc easily.
It's built for building loops one pattern at a time. The channel rack has buttons presetup with 8th notes and 4/4 time signatures, so for example you can hit your kick on 1 and 3 and your snare on 2 and 4 simply by clicking the button at the right timeslot in the channel rack which then saves that output to the currently selected pattern in pattern mode, not song mode you're using here.
Want to change the section, just copy that pattern to a new pattern and mix it up a little, take a fill for example if you were manually doing your drums before ez
drummer came along.
If you choose a new pattern and drag your ez drummer onto that, the timeline will auto extend, but till have to paste it to the timeline for song mode.
You can rename each pattern and use one or more instruments in each pattern at any length you want.
With each new pattern you don't have to change the instruments used, but can play a unique section into each pattern.
Organizing is the best approach you should use from the very beginning as songs evolve into beasts from your initial idea.
The FL workflow is designed to build patterns, then paint the song in with your patterns to build the song in the timeline.
It's kinda like building a wall one brick at a time then painting in a section of wall when and where you want it on the timeline.
Thanks shootie school for all you do brother!
You're a huge inspiration, and without you, I wouldn't have bought ALL the toontrack products except for ez mix.
If anyone wants to really get to know FL studio either from scratch or enhance what you already know intensely, check out the UA-cam channel "In the mix"
That guy is a master at FL and can get you from beginner to expert and you'd be surprised at just how powerful this daw really is.
Keep doing it Sean. You rock brother!
The biggest hurdle coming from another daw like pro tools is the concept of patterns and songs being separate in FL studio, but this breakdown once you get a grasp on it is very powerful.
Johan, thank you for taking the time to explain! I will take a look at this once I get a few minutes to play around. And thank you!
You're welcome, and thanks man. Love your channel and tell all my music friends about your content.
Rock on!
Yeah, simple answer is build the ez drummer midi first and then drag it into the channel rack on a new slot, and it'll resize.
If later you want to add more, there's a setting to change the "loop length."
I'm moving right now, but when I'm back up with my machine, I'll give you the exact way to stretch the timeline to the desired length from the settings.
I use a base template with the channels on the mixer including the busses and side chains for fx.
It saves a ton of time instead of setting it up from scratch each time
Getcha pull!!!!
Are you an FL guy?!?!?! Or are you just getting your pull?!?! Rock on, brother!
thank you sir for this information.will this work for all my toontrack plugins?
Yes. You just need one track with the empty midi block and the rest will work the moment you load them up.
Gratitude sir.
No prob 👍
I'm the same with studio one. Still 4.6. But use primarily toontrack so don't see point upgrading
Good stuff! Could you get into Logic Pro X?
It's tough to say how much I will. When it behaves uniquely compared to other DAWs when using TT i incorporate it. That's already happening moment at a time. As for it being my DAW to present with, another "maybe". I've finally stopped paying for Pro Tools after 20 years so I'm using many DAWs right now to find a new home the past year. Thanks for asking!
I am a toontrack/fl studio user by ages, I created too a template but I ve made it even better : ez keys in first mixer channel, ez bass in second and ez drummer on 3d and again ez drummer3 (named ez percussion) for percussions only...all these 4 mixer channel with icons and perfect color (dark red for ez keys, light red for ez bass, orange for ez drummer and yellow for ez percussion)...on playlist i put an empty track in yellow called "track"...plus I put every 8 bars on playlist a time markers (intro, verse 1, verse 2 , pre chorus etc...)
I love going crazy with templates as well, I do so in Reaper.
I'd love to know how you work around the single measure loop issue I cover in this video though. Do you use the same method? Maybe I'm missing something obvious?
Thanks!
@@ShootieSchool you dragged toontrack's vst on playlist, I never do this, I relate on mixer channels, playlist (as like u did) a blank track, just I don't do it 400 bars hahah, just 50, and when my workflows goes on I make it wider
@@daanieele Thanks for confirming about the blank track. I will play with this more in the near future. Thanks!
I will try recording with Flstudio, then dragging that midi into ezd3. As, so far, you can not hit record in ezd3 and record into ezd3 playlist/midi area because the flstudio files that were pre recorded wont playback. This is just a headache. lol. Dunno how they didnt think of that. As if the drummer always has to lay the track first? (and speaking for real drummers here) not just dragging in pre set up song/drums/midi...
As someone who records a live band, do you think FL Studio is the right DAW? FL Studio's primary market is EDM.
@@ShootieSchool Ive used it since flstudio9, so, its all i know. I am also not always doing live band stuff, just lately more then ever. I havent tried to drag the FLstudio midi into EZD3 yet, maybe that will work, i dunno. I can just skip it all and play it correctly, but sometimes we are just hitting record and making it up. So sometimes stutters happen as its all from scratch. Anyhow, I hear ya, it is a good DAW either way. Ive recorded live bands with this for years, no problem, its just moving to midi drums is new to me. =) Thanks for your help though, even if its hard to understand me, haha...
I’ve been trying to visualize as you’ve written. I’d say unless you sceencapped your workflow and showed me, it’s hard for me to suggest… if I even had a suggestion. DAWs are so capable, I always think there’s a solution or workaround.
I’m just curious, you use PC, and you also use Mac, and it seems like you have Cubase, FL studio, you probably have reaper, I don’t know logic Pro? ProTools, etc. just curious on the purpose? I mean obviously you’re extremely bright and great at what you, you’re a toontrack guru, just curious on why so many Daw’s? and the two different style computers, is it for educational purposes? I’m so ADD I have a hard time just focusing through one lol… I know this is not really part of the topic, but just curious. 👊😎
Shawn always tries to help you no matter the DAW or OS you are using.
It's because I do private lessons. And if a Toontrack Student has a DAW you don't have access to, they get turned off petty quickly since DAW integration is key sooner or later. As for my channel, I've been getting some praise about it. People love seeing integration in their specific DAW, so that's also been encouraging me.
It's gonna be tough to continue to support Mac users unless my channel starts making money. My IOS is going to die or be left behind sometime soon, and I'm now primarily PC.
@@ShootieSchool thank you for the reply. I love what you do, we need people like you on the tube. Your videos are great, & valued no matter what you use. I was just curious, It totally make sense why you cross over to other DAW'S. Keep up the great work. :-)
@blazelandproductions Thank you, Blaze!
Thanks Shawn. Next Ableton Live please 🙏🏻
I’ve got an ableton/bandmate vid in the cue.
Sigh....
The solution for FL Studio’s quirks is to get Studio One ;)
Lol no
